hello everybody and welcome to the mailbox live it's thursday it's just turn the afternoon and we're here live on the football 365 facebook youtube and twitter to talk about your letters emails that you've sent into the mailbox we're joined by sarah sarah how are you i'm good ryan i'm good right nice to see you in the chat yeah yeah this is the first time we've seen each other face to face yeah yeah who cares about all that you know it's it's just the usual really isn't it city are just blasting away everyone in the league um chelsea have gone back to actually being good again leads aren't very good um but in terms of what we've got in the mailbox today shall we have a little dive in see what we've got we'll start off we'll start off with this one this is from darren in stockport and he reckons that we'll remember this liverpool team before this city side which is interesting the reason he says that is because liverpool have gone toe-to-toe for several seasons potentially succeeding more in europe and doing so with an inferior finance package and a less outright talented squad overall which is fair isn't it which is but at the same time when you talk about who's winning more they're pretty much on the even keel aren't they do you do you get what darren's saying in this argument i get what he's saying but i think he's in dream world i think he's saying even keel it's nowhere near and even kill man city have won five of the last ten premier league titles liverpool have one one i mean obviously they'll always point to that champions league and certainly if they wouldn't win it again this year then they'll still point to two champions leagues but i think you know the the overall weight of trophies will stand in city's favor and if liverpool don't win the champions league final and if liverpool don't win the fa cup final yes we will remember this liverpool side but we will remember it as the one who everybody talks about the quadruple and then they won the carabao cup and that will be their place in history unfortunately for them it won't be oh look what jurgen klopp did you know people weren't talking 20 30 years about next spend people won't talk about you know against the odds and going toe to toe this man city side unfortunately history will sort of make that a little bit vague and we'll just be looking at however many years of man city dominance and i think it's a little bit sort of let's say they've got the red glasses on to uh to think that people are gonna remember this liverpool side unless of course they do they were in the champions league this year and the fa cup i think forget the quadruple that treble will be really really impressive and we will remember this little pool side but the you know narrow narrow margins between being a bit of a joke and you know really remembered as a great side it would be absolutely hilarious wouldn't it if this liverpool team ended up just with the carabao cup this season hide how hilarious that would be and that is not you know as much as people will say it's about anti-liverpool sentiment or bias it's not it is just funny when something is built up to be something so massive and then it falls down and to end with the carabao cup would be amazing it would just be phenomenal you know we've been saying all season the quadruple just it was a ridiculous and ludicrous idea because there's a reason why it's unprecedented it's because it's damn near impossible and now it looks like obviously man city is sort of very much odds on to win the title now it'll take take a fall of absolutely mammoth proportions of which they've shown no sign that they're gonna do that so i think that one's gone and if they get the other two yeah it looks good but if they just get the carabao cup i mean yeah when you talk about yeah it's interesting when you talk about trebles isn't it because in your opinion sarah does a treble mean as much if you don't win the league because i feel like the league is in some ways the biggest achievement of all instincts it shows you've been consistent across the course of the season there's no cheating in the league i think that's the thing that's you know there's no situation in history where the best team in the premier league hasn't won the premier league it's impossible to cheat over 38 games it's impossible for the table to lie it doesn't get it wrong you can measure it you know when you're a kid some you know you thought that whoever won the fa cup was the best team in england it's nonsense it's about luck and it's about narrow margins and it's about little decisions going your way or not and the champions league is the same as we've seen in in recent years you know real madrid could win this champions league they're not even in the best five teams in europe possibly even scrape into the top ten but they've had this thing about them that's brought them past uh chelsea psg and man city despite looking like second best in all three of those ties and that can happen in the champions league so although that it's to be celebrated and it's wonderful wonderful wonderful to win a cup on one day and you know to win that trophy but it's not a measure of being the best in england or it's not the measure of being the best in europe only only the premier league really is that measure and at the moment winning the premier league probably means you're the best team in europe because you know it was far and away the the strongest league at the moment so winning the premier league is the measure of being the best team if not the best team in the clutch moments because obviously city have showed that sometimes that doesn't quite work no i completely agree um just going back to what darren was saying in the email which side will remember more i think in some ways i i will remember this liverpool side because i think it's possibly the best liverpool side there's ever been um in terms of the pure squad depth the talents that they've got but at the same time they're still behind this city side and i just think these two sides are probably the best that we've ever seen in this country maybe even ever and obviously the barcelona side from 2011 may have something to say about that but in terms of club sides they're right up there in terms of the best ever for my money and i think they'll just both be remembered in their own rights which have ones remembered more i think i think i think will have been very unlucky to be in this era to be honest because yeah they won't emerge from this jurgen klopp spell with with the kind of trophies they probably deserve for the job he's done and you know because they have done phenomenally well and again you know let's not pretend they're poor but let's not pretend they haven't spent money because they've spent a lot of you know there's a great there's this easy way of saying isn't that all of paul are the ones who haven't spent money and say the ones that have spent money but you know 75 million on virgil van dyke a lot of money on alice in breaking world records you know they spent a lot of money it's not it's not some rags to richest tale but they have done incredibly well and part doing incredibly well was bringing in one of the best managers in the world who was gelled phenomenally with this local side but you know they've come up against the to my money the best team under the best manager that the premier league has ever seen yeah definitely let's talk city then and it was all about that man once again last night wanted kevin de bruyne scoring the four goals and robbie has this question has there ever been a player in the premier league who has been as comfortable on his weaker foot than kevin de bruyne every strike with his left has control power and perhaps terrifyingly accuracy i just love watching kevin de bruyne but when i came on here was it last week or a couple of weeks ago i can't remember there was an argument about whether he's overrated or not absolute nonsense because in terms of just watching someone play he's just remarkable isn't he is it to me my favorite player in the premier league by some margin uh taking over from from davidson before that because that's the kind of player i want to watch and you know that's not about saying that mo sal is not brilliant but i think there's a very different brilliance about him and about de bruyne because his pure pure footballing talent is extraordinary and what he's obviously done this season is you know it sounds ridiculous to sort of say he's stepped up again in terms of in terms of goals but there's definitely been a change of focus in that he's not just looking to to to sort of bend those balls in a way of people to finish he's looking to score those goals himself he's never had a better season in front of goal and he's because he's finishing his remarkable and like you said the left foot the short answer that question is is no i don't think we've ever seen him playing the premier league you can hit the ball so sweetly so cleanly so powerfully their left foot you know those of us who spent their whole footballing careers having one leg to stand on it you know can only yeah meet him you know the only standing are of somebody who can do that with both feet i mean in the moment in the premier league we've got a son who's very similar in terms of what he can do with both feet that you don't necessarily know which is his stronger foot when he when he's when he shoots but de bruyne is on another level um to me the best best player in the premier league in the last four or five years bar none and i don't think that that should even be an argument and i think we're going to have this funny situation where all the players of player of the year awards are going to go to salah because they're all voted for quite early but actually we're going to look back and go you know de bruyne was the player who who won the title for man city undoubtedly and you know now we've just got the prospect of of harlan coming in and then de bruyne are pre everyone's talking about just does hard enough to change his game i think what we'll see is de bruyne the bees be so intelligent will slightly change his game again so he becomes the provider and and you know and the idea that that isn't going to dovetail because it doesn't always dovetail it's ridiculous i think this is you know this is a great great team a great great manager and a really good goal scorer coming in it's not like the car key to chelsea this i i don't see a scenario where this goes wrong other than allen harlan missing a lot of games through injury and even then i think he could play 20 games next season score 25 wars it's going to be scary into it when you think of the supply line of kevin de bruyne and of course the players like silva etc etc provide into harlem it's gonna be frightening it's gonna be quite frankly unfair um but in terms of the sheer technical ability that de bruyne has it's gotta be right up there with the best in the world hasn't it because i mean he's a brilliant physical player as well in terms of his pace i think that's one aspect of his game which is really overlooked because he's so good at the technical stuff but he's just incredible and the fact that he can do it with both feet as well he could easily play a whole game with his left foot if he wanted to and still be the best player on the park wouldn't he that's how good you know when you play a game of pool again something's really really good and you make them play with their left hand maybe that's what they should do he's that kind of guy that show off let's finish off then and obviously on this show we obviously talk about the big teams quite often let's shine a light on wolves maybe not the best time showing the light on them considering they've just been spanked by man city and they've only got one point from their last five they've actually had quite a good season haven't they considering the turmoil that they had in the summer with players yeah yeah it's a funny one isn't it because you know it's a bit of recency bias with this in that i i can't remember what was last winning a football game and yet you look at the table and it seems remarkable that they're eighth and which is a massive upgrade on what happened last season and yet i think there's a feeling amongst wolves fans that this has not been a lot of fun and you know not that football was great fun under santo but they but they they're sort of you know when ximenez was banging in the goals two seasons ago you know they've got that central midfield partnership of nevis and moutinho which is phenomenal but if you're not i don't know this should be something not quite there this season and i don't get the impression that wolves fans have really taken to bruno large i don't think there's any great love there um i don't know it's a funny one isn't it it's all like perception is that you know that you look at the table and the history will say you look at the table and think oh if they're finishing the top 10 then that's a really good result particularly after sort of dropping last season but it all feels a little bit you know and certainly ending the season i think is really difficult i talk a lot about momentum and i think people underestimate how much sort of momentum carries on into the summer because if you end one season really badly it's then really difficult to start again a because you know those players are feeling down the fans are feeling down uh you know prospective players who want to come in who might come in transfers and looking at the results and saying not sure about this it's not the right place to go you end the season with three four wins even if you end the season in 10th it feels like oh you know you know as a fan you kind of you're thinking oh we could do something next season because you you're ending the season on a high then there's a real danger that wolves end on a low and end on this feeling of like you know coupled with you know season ticket rises have come in and you know you're kind of thinking oh do i pay again for another season of that because it's all about yeah you know and moutinho is out of contract reuben never's is is likely to be sold this summer you know quite a lot of that team could be could be torn apart and if you take out numbers and you take out moutinho you're kind of thinking there's not an awful lot left certainly in the center of the park so there's actually quite a big rebuild job there and it's you know it's a funny one it's kind of you know you give him a tick for their season on the legal position but not how it's ended yeah well that brings me nicely on to what john has sent in and he was talking about how well the headline is that he he says the club need to either back bruno now or change him and back the next manager to the hilts because as you say they are going to lose nevis from the looks of it moutinho possibly two jimenez hasn't been the same player that he has been in the past and then you've got the other forward players like huang silva trincao and then other players are off as well um but he says on a more positive note neto had a few moments which reminded him of the player before his injury it's a bit of a mixed time is it but as i say if you offered a walls fan a top arm finish at the start of the season neither ripped your arm off for that weren't they the word that's why there's that funny mixed emotions isn't that where you know it's similar to sort of you know brighton a few weeks ago where although the league position still looked good it kind of they were having this really weird run of form and then you get the weird scenario of brighton fans booing the bright you know you're kind of thinking well what do you what are you wanting here because there is that it is really difficult as a fan isn't it to look to look at this or bigger picture and think oh actually we're doing better we're hiring all you're thinking about is bloody hell this has been miserable you know the last three or four games have been miserable we've all been there you know and it's kind of like you know ending this and he's right i think they have to because there is a rebuild job to be done there because they can't you know there's a lot of talk that that lad wants to change that system as well i sort of inherited this system and inherited a squad that was really sort of skewed towards that system so it's got a lot of center hearts a lot of center halves not a lot of central midfielders you know it's all a bit it's a funny bitty squad it's funny how you mentioned pedro netter because i've almost forgotten he exists because you know there was a tight you know i remember was fans i know when they soldiered saying they bought the wrong guy you know like liverpool spent all this money on the otter and actually neto is better but obviously that that injury is as um has curtailed him and you've got to stay the same for him as well he's not the same player he doesn't go in for headers in the same way and and nor would you expect him to after the horrendous horrendous injury has suffered so they have been unlucky but yeah i think there's there's going to have to be some money available this summer i think in order to sort of and and there should be i suppose if they sell numbers there will be there will be some money coming in but that there needs to be a sort of rethink of what they're doing because a sort of just carrying on that sort of santo santo formation and the style it it's it's that's the kind of football it's only fun when you're winning isn't it nobody wants to see that back five and the kind of you know that thou shalt not pass sort of attitude if you if you if you're losing games and i think there's there's a real fear that there's there's kind of like a little bit of a bit of upset settling in at molineux and a little bit of kind of grumbling yeah well one final point on that sari you look at the table and i keep going back to the table because i feel like that's the bigger picture as opposed to the recent results yeah absolutely look at the teams who you'd expect wolves to be on kind of an even keeling with west ham are the only side up there you could say maybe they should be finishing higher than that not should be but you see what i mean and then you've got the obvious top six breaking through that glass ceiling is a lot harder than well it's one of the hardest things to do when you're sidelight wolves isn't it so they have got to basically either gamble or just accept that they are going to be eighth seventh place for the rest of eternity because that's kind of what happened to everton wasn't it they gambled with the likes of alan james rodriguez those kinds of players and now look what they are well you're saying it's difficult right there it's almost impossible and even if you crack it even if you kind of poke a hand through it you you're pushed straight back down as we've seen with leicester you know look at leicester's season that's you know after two years of almost of you know almost getting into the top four it's like that they're now so exhausted by the protest they've they're absolutely they've looked terrible for much of the season and it's kind of broken than those two years of not quite getting there i don't think for wolves it's a case of trying to break through there i think i think that's probably beyond them but i think i suppose what the fans are probably saying is if we're gonna be seventh eighth ninth if we're gonna be in that place can you make it a bit more fun it's like that's you know that it's kind of that's what you want isn't it as a fan you go mom man we can't get there but can you make this you know interesting can you make it fun and i think that's what's been missing the last few weeks is the fun element and there's there's not been a lot of it all season to be honest for wolves fans you know they've had their moments but
