Hello everybody. Juventus Milan 1. We're live from outside the Aliian stadium. Another thrilling game in Syria. Probably in terms of quality. It wasn't as good as uh Inter Napoli yesterday, but still a very intense game, a game where we we saw a lot of things uh from the very beginning. Joining me today to uh break down the game, talk about everything going on today at Alian Stadium is San Milan's Ben Dixon. Ben, thank you so much for joining me. >> My pleasure as always. Thank you for Thank you for having me and thank you for having us on as always. >> We've got a few comments already, so perhaps let's start with uh with one of those and then we we go on with our analysis waiting for uh more comments as well. Um I think we got the first one from Lee who always follows us. Always very uh nice to be with us with our live streams. Um what he says it thinks Milan look better than Juve considering they were the away team but generally I agree with Lee. Uh they the action the drama over the weekend was uh uh was cool to see. Finally, we see urban football. We see uh not too many interruptions. We see enjoyable football as it should be. Uh your take on this le comment. Who did you prefer? Juventus or Milan? >> Uh I think it's tough. I think you can look at in a few ways really. I think Milan played the game better as an away side for large parts of the game. you know, they they it was quite allegrian, you'd actually say, in the sense that, you know, last season it'd be soak up the pressure and then kind of hit early in the first in the second half, sorry, and then just try and hold out the game. And it was it was very much like that again under Ramaring, which was which was quite different. But, you know, when you go when you go to to cheering, you've got to kind of play in that way. You've got to try and soak up the points because, you know, we've seen in recent years how how it's it's been a it's been a lowscoring fixture >> especially at the Alian. So you you need to kind of go there and try and just get a point. If you get out with a point, especially against a side that are going to be in the Champions League race are going to potentially be in the Scadeta race, you can go out there and and get a point at the very least. It's it's a good result. And I feel like you'd probably you before the game, you take the result as it is. It's just the manner of the defeat which is going to leave a lot of Milan fans feeling rightly a bit frustrated, I think. >> Yeah, I agree. I have to say I didn't I didn't expect Milan to be so conservative I would say uh because Juventus had the best chances until he says goal but um Amoris Amorin's plan worked well because he eventually got the opening goal through second goal for him in in Syria this season probably one of his most uh most the most one of the most important goals in his career. Uh it you know when when there are these type of tact tactical matches it was different from what we saw in the past because uh uh if you remember the previous Juventus Milan especially from last season it was mostly defensive football uh and it was mostly waiting for the opponent to make the first move. In this case, it was a little bit different because uh Juventus did try to keep possession for longer. Then they I think show the same uh uh the same weaknesses especially in central midfield. They move the the ball too slowly. They're too predictable. And then in the final third, they got they had Francisco, Niko Gonzalez, and Karimovic starting for the first time as a left winger. uh but yet they they missed that final pass. They missed the uh you know the desire, the gratitude to go and make the right choice in the right moment. And so at some point I felt Juventus would no longer score because especially after Milan um after Milan opened the account with Cay here at the Juventus at the Alien Stadium you could sense this sense of frustration and you could see it in the players as well. There were boos for Manuel Latelli who was initially subbed off and then they changed the decision replacing Douglas Lewis. There were boos for Colum as well who I think had his worst performance uh considering this season but his previous Juventus as well. So generally I think Juventus probably especially in the first half they did more to win the game but ultimately I think uh Amor's game plan worked really well and at the end of the day they got this equalizer from Feder Kaki which wouldn't say is random but uh it came from uh it came from a trust it came from uh an actual very good from uh from 10 cup miners had a very good impact in this match. Um the I said we got we got a few surprise at the beginning of the game because there was also starting for the first time for Ju and the same on the Milan side with Diego Mora starting for the first time and I think Mora the way he played reflects a little bit the Milan attitude. He was more focused on the defensive side than on the attacking side. So I don't think it's is both for Mor and Duo which I don't think it's the right game to judge them. Of course it's very early in the season but it was it's it's one of those games where tactics has the control of the game. What do you think? >> No, I'd agree. I think Morera Morera is an interesting one because a lot of the Milan media and just the the Italian media generally have been kind of quite up and down about him as a as a signing because on the face of it you've got a quite interesting player, a good young signing, but you know, he's arrived for a lot of money and you know, Amarim said in his press conferences he's not exactly going to be a starter straight away or potentially even across the season with Chuck Wesley playing so well and again that was shown again tonight. throwing him into a game like this then is is a bit of a it's a tough one because you know you can either kind of make a name for yourself and and decide the game or play a big part in deciding the game and have a memorable performance or you can have the game which he did which was quite lackluster in the sense that you know we we Milan have paid a big price for for Merr and ultimately he's not shown much that um you you'd hope to see from him for a signing like that and I think that's again where potentially we're going uh we're going to see a lot more of the the the conversation continue about whether he was a good signing for Milan um this summer because ultimately he's he's been thrown into a very difficult situation here against a very very tough side in the game where mistakes and just even small things uh if if you don't play the right pass but it's not exactly the wrong pass it's it's going to be judged. So it's it's a case of he's had a he's had a very tough start to life in Italy with this. I think it's his first minutes of the season as well. So, it's not exactly like he's had minutes against Torino or against Fenetsia to kind of warm himself up to things. So, it's it's a very very tough challenge. And while I can understand um judging him off the back of that game and or off the back of this game, I think it's very very early to to kind of make a decision about what he is and what he can be. Um I suppose the the negative side of it is that again it's been a substitute deciding the game for Milan. two substitutes with Chuck Wesley coming on directly for Morrera which definitely hasn't helped how people view his game because you know Chuck Wesley comes on gets the assist from Merr whereas Morr didn't do anything of of substantial note and that's again something that will play against him but you've got to remember this is Chucker who's been potentially Milan's best player this season so far everything that has has come good from them has often been down the right hand side with Chuck Wes have been heavily involved so it it's a difficult factor and you know you can you can argue that players around didn't have the best me the Rabio who last season and even this season has been extremely impressive for Milan wasn't up to his normal standard. Salamak was poor. A lot of the a lot of the players that you you thought should start this game given on the performances of the the start of the season didn't play the way they had been showing beforehand. So when those changes m were made when Cay came on you're thinking all right well this is going to be the reverse of what we've seen already where Cay has come off and Salamax has come on and Salamax has caused the impact this time it was Cay that caused the impact soaring making on the on the general side the right changes I think especially when attacking it's now just a case of I think Morera maybe deserves a chance as the substitute to have that kind of freer where he's playing against a more tired squad and you hopefully can see a bit more of him in a game that suits rather than throwing him minute one against Juventus which >> again is is a really really tough start to life for him. >> I have to say um first half for Morero was mostly defensive. The second half >> he tried to sprint a couple of times past Jackie Chelik and when he did that it looked pretty dangerous. So I think uh when we we will see Mil against uh teams that defend uh that defend deep this pace and this technical ability from Morera would be will be quite useful for Milan. But talking about substitutes before the match I was I was talking to a colleague and we were discussing Morera we were discussing and he said look with five substitutions it has become pretty much like the NBA so you keep the best play either the best players or uh the players that make you feel more comfortable sometimes it's fair to leave them on the bench because you know they can make an impact in the second part and probably this is what both Specti and Amore thought because uh again Diego Mora and Begic started for the first time both they were subbed off and uh and I think as you said Chuk has probably been Milan's best player so far and it's that sort of player that right now has a lot of confidence and you would expect an impact from him while the other way around perhaps it would have been more difficult because you give Morera his first minutes at Lan. So it would have been more difficult probably. So you know the the football we grow up with with three substitutions was very very different. Um and now with five substitutions u it makes sense for the coaches to to leave sometimes the most informed player at the beginning on the bench and then uh let them have an impact. All players who scored and assisted tonight came from the bench because it was Chu and Cece for Milan and um top miners and and Gati for Juventus. Um we I think the Milan defense then we'd be talking about the Juventus attack with especially with Colum who I said probably had his worst performance as a Juventus player. Uh the Milan defense looked very solid. Uh I was quite impressed by the winter. I've seen him already obviously this season. He's a former Juventus player. Um when I was working in nearly 10 years ago I used to go and cover the Juventus primma vera team and I remember this young kid playing in central midfield playing as a right back as a center back and now he looks very comfortable. I know column one he didn't have a a good game was quite quite poor. I had him as the lowest Juventus rating alongside Pier Kalulu. Uh but the way that he controlled and managed Colani, I have to say he was was quite impressive. I didn't like him. >> Yeah, definitely. I think especially considering you know Dwinter's positioning coming into this season he's been looked at as kind of a secondary defender for for the back three and he's well coming into this season and then in preseason Matteo Gabia didn't really impress too much so he's been given this chance and with Gabia's injury as well you've got that kind of you've got that license to give yourself a chance the issue as well is that you know Miland were were very very um publicly covered to be looking for another center half as well so if anyone was going to come out in the in the final days of the summer, you would expect that it would be the winter who would lose their place as a starter for this game. And he he's shown potentially that Milan don't really need another central defender or at least don't need another central defender because he looked really comfortable tonight and and it's not the first time that he he has looked comfortable this season. When he when he first came to the club, he was pretty shaky and I think everyone can kind of admit that. And then it was the uh super copper italana game against Napoli where uh it just things kind of seemed to click after that where the second half of last season whenever Allegri picked him he looked really really assured in his game and don't get me wrong there's still a few mistakes here and there or there's still a few things that would set him aside from being a top top level defender but he looked certainly passable and you know he's still a very very young player and he will grow. So if he is given more chances by Amarim and Amarim says to him, "Look, you're you're now going to be one of the starting center halfs, that'll only that'll only bode well for him across the season. So he's he's a player that I'm I'm really excited to see more of. Um, as well, I think it'd be wrong to not touch on on Mario Heer again, who was by far and away I think Milan's best defender and has been this season. He was he was just everywhere. And you know when um when you saw him for Latio it was very much the same situation where he was he was noticeably the best defender in that team and there's a reason why Milan have been after him for so long. There was a reason why pretty much every Sri club club that could afford to buy him were looking at him and it looks like one of the best signings of the summer not just in Italy but across Europe at this stage because you know you paid 25 million for a defender of that quality and >> value for money is great. >> Yeah. every single game it feels like we're talking about Mario Heila and s saying he is by far in a way the best defender in in this team and he he just showed it again today everywhere with his with his passing he he helped Milan come forward he stopped everything there was the um chance in the box I think it was against Kuwani where he he goes and contests the ball and Kawani appeals for a penalty and he he he's just a shoulder tackle like there's there's nothing there's no problem with it But, you know, we've seen that where with potentially with Pavlovich or Dinttera where you you're still a bit novicey in the sense that you you might just be a little bit too harsh or you might use your body in just the wrong way where the ref goes you know what yeah that's that's a bit too much but he just perfect and you know when when he comes off Milan concede and it's it's not really a shock about that because he has just been so solid. >> Yeah, probably not a coincidence. We got a message from Antonio say he's not impressed by either teams compared to the past Juven should be a game of the best teams but this was a terrible game. Look I tend to agree I mean yesterday was at chance for um in Napoli and obviously it was a very different game but it was a match between last season winner and last season second place. Tonight we saw fifth place last season against sixth place six sixth place. So you don't expect things to change from from one game from one day to another besides this new signings besides all the money that Juventus and Milan put on the market. You don't really expect uh you know big changes from from from night to day. Uh it's uh it's understandable because uh especially for those who watch uh Inter Milan Inter Napoli yesterday, it surely was a worse game because uh just the quality the same quality that Inter Napoli showed just wasn't there. Again, Juventus, they have issues in central midfield. They move the ball too slowly. They have issues when it comes to making the final decision. And even more without a player like Hanis, this is something that is going to affect them big time for the next two or three months, the time that Indis is expected to remain out of action because he's probably the only player who can make the right decisions at the right time. Don't forget last season he got 10 goals and 11 assists or the other way around, but generally 20 plus goal contributions from a 21 22 years old, that's a lot. and it shows that he's that type of player who is able to make the right decisions up front for G concess was great I think he had the best chances before Cisa's goal but then again at some point when exactly when Mario contested the ball to to Colani there was space on the other side for Jeremy Boger who was coming on and he has the quality and he has the vision to make that sort of pass which uh it's more difficult than giving it to to Colum one who's coming in your way but it opens most more space for Boga and he would have had more space to control the ball and try to go for the to go for the goal. I think mostly if if there is something that these two teams have in common, it's uh the lack of quality I think in attacking midfield. And it's not a coincidence that Milan conceded when Jilla was out and it's not a coincidence that Milan scor that Milan scored with this with a dribbling inside the box and with a quick shot. we when we have this type of tactical game, the only way to make a difference is uh is to have that spark and C just had it. >> Yeah, definitely. I think it's it's something that you know when you look at low event games where um I mean I'm on the the stats page for this game um Juventus had 1.57 expected goals, Milan had 0.09. It wasn't exactly a game where there were tons of attacking chances for for Milan and you just need that little bit of something and and Cece Cece is that um you know I I don't think he's going to be a starter this season. You've got Pulic who's coming back. You've got Rabio who will play on the other side. Cece isn't likely to be a starter and I don't think coming into this season he was expecting to be. But having him to be able to come off the bench like this and and be able to to have these moments of impact which he's already had um this season, you know, we saw it against Torino where he just he just brilliant and then again tonight where Chuck Weser plays a fantastic ball across the pitch, he controls it brilliantly and then he just makes a bit of space for himself and shoot and it's in a summer where Lea's gone, it kind of feels like you've got something there which you can kind of fall in love with and That's it's strange to have that in a summer and it's very rare to I don't want to say get lucky with that but you can see very similar kind of qualities in them where they can just flip the game on its head uh in just a second and that's it's a very good quality to have and to see him being you know that young and that raw already and there's a lot of potential there which we knew before you know the season kicked off and if he's if he keeps getting these chances and converting them you've got a very kind of tough question about how long can you keep him as as a kind of rotational option if if a substitute because >> these moments of magic you can only kind of look at as a as a moment for so long. If you give him the time and you give him the chances to to do that on a regular basis by starting him and giving him 60 minutes 70 minutes then you know Milan have got a player on their hands there and it's it's how you manage that and he needs the minutes because he clearly has the talent. Um, sorry I'm going a little bit out of context because uh I just received a message from the uh guys the writers at Football Italia and uh that's sort of breaking news because apparently Fabio Brusso has been sucked by Florentina already after just three games. Uh yeah, apparently sucked.
