Welcome back to the Football Italia channel. Welcome back to Coverciano where the Azzurri will start preparing for the France game today. They're back now after the game against Turkey, so let's see what Roberto Mancini has in mind heading towards the next game. So, the Azzurri returned here in Coverciano on Monday night, Tuesday early morning. quite train yesterday. We start preparations for the France game today. And then tomorrow, one final training session here and they will then fly to Paris where on Friday they will face France. The first news is that Giacomo Raspadori, one of the key players, somebody we spoke about in the previous video examining the win against Turkey, won't be available and has already returned to Atalanta because he picked up a knock in the first half of the game against Turkey. He was subbed off at the break and is not available for the next two games. He won't recover in time. He will remain out of action for at least 10 days and so he's even at risk of missing Atalanta's next Serie A game after the international break. So, no Giacomo Raspadori. Roberto Mancini will have to find a way to replace the Atalanta player who, as we said the other day, technically starting as a right winger but actually was more of an attacking midfielder or as a or as a support striker for the Azzurri and was the tactical key for Italy to win the game and dominate the first half against France against Turkey. We hope the same happens against France. So, Raspadori is back home. He won't be replaced today. From Coverciano, there was an interesting press conference of another Atalanta player, Giorgio Scalvini, center defender. He played the full 90 minutes against Turkey and he said something very interesting and I think that Scalvini embodies a little bit the challenge, the tactical challenge that Italy have to face in this new phase under Roberto Mancini. And the tactical challenge is the shift from a three-man defense to a four-man defense. Now, we know that in Serie A a lot of top sides, especially Inter, Roma as well, they are comfortable. They always play with a three-man defense. But what we see around Europe is a football that is going towards the using of four-man defense for those teams that play high level, that challenge to win the Champions League. And this is something that Mancini wants to replicate as well. Against Belgium, it was a little bit in between a three-man defense or a four-man defense. But with Turkey, with Kayode on the right and Rogério on the left side of the defense, it was clear that Italy would definitely switch to a four-man defense with two attacking full-backs and again trying to dominate game, trying to dominate switch. Scalvini said it's something that the Azzurri will try to do against France as well. I add that we all know it's not going to be easy because France are one of the best teams in the world. But the ambition from Mancini and from the players is the one of being there, try to dominate proceedings, try to play with a strong identity and play openly against any opponent. So, Scalvini said it's an important test to see which point the Azzurri have reached. I read all your comments here on the Football Italia channel. I saw that many of you say it's too early to judge. I keep saying it will be too early against after the game against France as well. It's just the third game into the new era. For now, we've got a lot of cons against Belgium, a lot of pros against Turkey. But what we saw against Turkey is a mentality, is an attitude that gave us a lot of hope. So, the hope for the Azzurri is that we will continue on this path and that we will keep playing openly, keep playing first and foremost with the desire to play, with the desire to have an impact with the Azzurri shirt because this is something that the Azzurri lacked against Belgium in Roma, but the attitude was entirely different, the approach was entirely different against Turkey and it really made a big difference. So, the tactical dilemma of the last few years that was faced by both Luciano Spalletti and Gennaro Gattuso seems gone because Italy will be defending with a four-man defense. And an interesting thing that Scalvini said, another reason why I think he embodies the new course uh of the Azzurri, the new tactical course as well, is comes from his club club as well. Because Scalvini is one of those defenders who has been accustomed to playing with the three-man defense under Gian Piero Gasperini, under Ivan Jurić, under Raffaele Palladino with Atalanta. Whereas with Maurizio Sarri now, we all know that Atalanta and Sarri, I mean, Sarri only wants to play with a four-man defense. And so, Scalvini is getting accustomed to some of these move of these movements is making himself this tactical reach which he also admitted during today's press conference might be helpful with the national team as well. Then, of course, every coach has different demands. Mancini doesn't want the same thing as Maurizio Sarri, Scalvini said. But at the same time, playing with just another center-back close to him is something that will help him uh making this switch from a three to a four-man defense and will help him get some continuity when he will leave his club to come here to Coverciano and train and play with the Italy national team. Another interesting thing that Scalvini said is somewhat related to the transfer market because he has recently extended his contract with Atalanta official unofficially I would say until 2031 because Atalanta didn't really say it in in the in their official statement, but we know it's until 2031. Despite that, he spoke very highly about Atalanta. He said that he obviously is a academy product and so he uh he feels well at the club. He knows everything about the club. He's been coming through the academy and he's been playing consistently for the first team for several years now. But he said that one day he would like to try an experience abroad like many of these players in the Italy team have done. So naturally uh we would think about uh mostly Newcastle who've been a team that uh were linked with Scalvini last summer. There were other clubs, Chelsea, Tottenham, but especially Newcastle were strongly linked with the Italian defender. Obviously, I don't think it's something that is going to happen anytime soon because Scalvini again has signed a contract extension, but going forward, looking towards the future, it's something that the defender will have in his mind. In these Italy national team, he sees a lot of examples from some of his uh teammates who play abroad and especially play in the Premier League. There are 10 players, which is an unprecedented number of uh footballers coming Italian footballers called to the senior team uh who uh come from outside Serie A. The most notable ones, Tonali, Donnarumma, Calafiori. Now obviously we got Cambiaso and Ruggeri as well. So there's a lot of examples of players coming from outside Serie A, especially from the Premier League. And uh I think it's it's that Scalvini will will like to try one day as he said. But it's not going to happen too soon, I think, because he's just signed a new contract. Uh just to finish off some early news about the lineup, as I said, uh the lineup against against France. As I said, Raspadori won't be available. I think Mancini will continue with this sort of 4-3-3 which check the previous video, it's not actually a proper 4-3-3 cuz the two wingers are not really playing wide but more playing towards the center of the pitch. There are a lot of options on the wings. Samuele Ricci for example on the left has never been never even gone to the bench so far in the first two games with Italy and it's somebody that I would really like to see on the field for the Azzurri. Zoma was introduced as a substitute in the first half but then was dropped and didn't even travel to Turkey for the second game. And those are some options from the left alongside Daniel Maldini. For the right, there are Nicolo uh there are Nicolo Cambiaghi. There is also Sebastiano Esposito who can play on the left and on the right. There are several options. There's no more Nicolo Zaniolo who left the training ground earlier the last week before the game against Turkey. Um There is a doubt about Tonali not because he's injured but because he's already played two games for 90 minutes. So it's not sure that he will start. Personally, I think Pierluigi Gollini will start the third game in a row also because he was subbed off against Turkey in the second half and personally I think that the attacking threat posed by Davide Frattesi in the match against Turkey make him untouchable for the next game against France. But we'll see cuz again, the Azzurri will resume training and will actually start preparing for the game just today cuz yesterday was a day of rest after the trip from from Turkey. There was just a light training session. So, the actual preparation starts today. Tomorrow, we will follow the opening 15 minutes of the training session here at Coverciano. We will report everything to you and then the Azzurri will travel to France. On Friday, we face France away for the third game of the 2026-27 Nations League.
