The host's conclusion is that Barcelona's away scoring is remarkable, but defensive matchups and injuries leave doubts for the Champions League.

Lamine Yamal's form is otherworldly at the moment, and a few mistakes from the Catalans didn't stop Barcelona from making history on the road against Real Betis. Seven total goals, a red card, and plenty of VAR were just some of the highlights of a wild La Liga battle. 0:00 Absolute Screamer 2:48 Out jumped again 6:45 A Lead and Some Luck 9:19 Descent to Chaos 13:24 Away Goals for Days Check out our merch in our store! - https://the-barcelona-podcast.creator-spring.com/ Listen to the full podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast ... Barcelona just won another sevengoal thriller. It's five more goals away from home and they extended a ridiculous scoring streak that has not been seen for 98 years. This though however was a far from comfortable confrontation with Real Betis. They made Barcelona work for everything. There were defensive mistakes, a spectacular goal that was ruled out after V. Some controversial decisions even on Barcelona goals and a straight red card that definitely changed this match. And even amidst all of that chaos, Barcelona still put five past realities. And there could be some major injury news that puts a damper on that PSG match in just a few short days. But in the meantime, here are those five headlines from Barcelona's 5-2 win over. Headline one is an absolute screamer. Before of course we get to the Galazo from Leamin Mall. There was surprisingly more rotation for Alveetes and what they have to do midweek in the Champions League than Barcelona against PSG on Tuesday. Clearly Hanzflick over the course of a season felt like prioritizing this match in the Liga with a top three side against Real Betis instead of that match on Tuesday. Now you could say that he's probably prioritizing a little bit of both but due to the lineup that he put out there and what Betty's put out there you have to say that there was less rotation for Hanzi Flick for Real Bettis there was no Mark Bartra no Nathan no Isco no Anthony or Perro Gabriel Jesus meanwhile got the start for Barcelona alongside Javius Bar and Jules Kundai coming back to the fullback spots there isn't too much to talk about from the first few minutes of this match so we're going to jump ahead already to about the 10th minute when Jar Martin goes up for a header lands improperly on that ankle and it looked like he was going to be worse the wear. He does get replaced by Eric Garcia at halftime. That is the thing to know. But he did survive the remaining about 40 minutes or so after falling on that ankle. And in the midst of all of that chaos, Barcelona being down to 10 men because Martine is off the field. That didn't seem to matter because they get the 10 in the 10th minute. It's Betty's trying to press here because they were down a man. It's with Rodri jumping back into that back line. And it's Rodri that breaks through that midfield and forward press. Linimal then turning Fran Garcia to play Kundai on the overlap. Back to Yamal. And then poor Faguno Bernol. He does get Lamini Mal back later. And not in a good way I should say, but Yumal turns him inside out embarrasses him and the finish is exquisite for Lamini Maul. Not much bend on the ball, but just a rocket into the top corner leaving Vias without an answer in net. And I'll ask you here, lean him all, he's had some pretty good ones. We actually just talked about it on the best goals for Barcelona show as one of the honorable mentions, the Inter Milan one, Benfica one. Where does this goal against Raal Batist fit along the best goals that Leamin has ever scored for Barcelona? Headline two is outjumped again. I do want to talk a little tactics right here because I did see some push back on the idea that Admy, Fermine, not necessarily Mini Mal, but Fermine, Admy, and Gabriel Jesus, when they start together, it is a ton more chaotic, whereas Anthony Gordon on the left wing is a bit more controlled. Admi through the middle, Danny Almo is much more controlled at that 10 spot. And then up top, Rafinia also much more controlled than what we see from Gabrielle Ju. So, he did have some pretty good first touches, some pretty good movement. I was happy with Gabrielle Jesus even outside of the goal that he scored. But still those three compared to the other three that could start even midweek against PSG a lot more chaos here. And the question against Real Bettis, a team that likes possession. You might ask where is that chaos? Well, the thing against Real Bettis is that they are a team that does want to have the ball. And what we've seen is a bit of a push and pull tactically from Hanzi Flick in these situations. He knows and this is coming from a point of emphasis and a point of power from Barcelona that when they have a team that they're facing like a Feyenord in the Champions League or like Betis in the Liga who want to and usually have the ball more than their opposition when it's Barcelona then commanding possession it's possession with a purpose because with Rialetis not having the ball they then have to play out of their system whereas for Barcelona even though that press again with Fermy and Adi and Gabrielle Jesus when Barcelona had possession and things are a bit more chaotic. The fact is for Hanzi Flick that even that bit of chaos is still more of what Barcelona is accustomed to than what Benty's had to do without any of the ball for so much of that first half. And yet still it led to some frustration for Barcelona. You could tell because even though Barcelona had so much of the ball because Betty's were crowding the middle. Fermine didn't really have a lot to operate in with Betty's also defending not only narrow but compactly that meant the verticality of Fermine was again just a bit lost in it. You could feel the frustration. He picked up an early yellow before he had even touched the ball 20 times in the match. And since we're being a little bit negative here in the 27th minute, let's talk about the equalizer. Barc give away the corner. So then Betty's get the equalizer. It's Jesus misplaying the clearance at the near post and the deflection goes to Fernal's. He delivers it on a dime right back into the mixer to the head of Valentine Gomez, the center back who out jumps Shavepar. And for the second time this season, Aspar, the teenager, gets ragdalled by a larger player for the goal. Shave Spar had position, but didn't matter. It was a bigger body, a bigger guy. And those moments like that go back to me saying, is this just something that Ri Bettis was able to get that switch or was there something happened with the matchups even too quickly in terms of matching up properly that Barcelona gets caught out there with that matchup? Or maybe they just had trusted him in that situation. Not sure what happened. This also again comes after the play had broken down from the initial corner and then they had to I guess pick new matchups with the ball going to the other side. So I can make excuses here for different players, but this is just an instance of mono emano Gomez out jumping a spar for the goal. At that point in the match, it's not like Barcelona couldn't have been up 2-1 even because Lamin there were some times when he floats a little bit. Today was not one of those floating day. He had his pedal in a medal the entire time and even before he had scored that galazo once he scored that full of confidence. I mean full of confidence from Luminium all he hits a travella in the 34th. Well, it's a disguise travella I guess to call it to Edge, but Vias the goalkeeper does well to save the chip shot. Then the 36-minute Yal goes on a run through the middle after Barcelona had again broken through that Betty's press. Rodri, he had some good moments in the first half. Sure, like I mentioned on that pre preassist for Lamini Mal's goal, but he also gave away a bunch of easy short passes that we're not used to. Some uncharacteristic giveaways is what I'll call it. I don'tice fatigue, but it does bring up the bigger question that Rodri and Pedri, they went the full 90 in this match. Headline three is a lead and some luck. While it didn't lead to a goal, and it's not really too lucky, I do want to mention the Dwan Garcia save in the 39th minute with Mini Mall upfield. Kundai gets caught having to decide between two runners. Fortunately for him, he doesn't pick either. So, it leads to a free cross that the Spar then winds up slipping on on what was a I should mention here, a poor pitch from Bettis. Yes, they have a bunch of other events, but yeah, this is La Liga and for all that money, poor pitch on the day. And so Bayerin gets a wide open look, but Dwan Garcia stretching out for the save there. Good save by Dwan Garcia on the save he had to make. Few minutes later, that save from Dan Garcia equals a goal on the other side from Barcelona on the rare setpiece. And the even more rare header goal from Rodri. The last one he had of course was in a Man City uniform. He comes on a set piece as I said with Eddie winning the corner. Then the inswinger delivered from Fermine. Rodri out jumps the Betty's defense who doesn't get a body on him and he was able to go up early. Vias didn't come off his line and the ball slips past him into the corner for the 2-1 for Barcelona. Anyway, it happens. Of course, they'll take it. Now, shortly after that, we also I mean, you can even argue that Betsy deserve the 2-2 here. And it's one of those and I I say this all the time when I play sports, too. If I do something really, really, really cool, really incredible, and you call me out of bounds, or even if it's, you know, 5050, did I have a foot on the line? Was I off the line? If it is really, really close and I do something amazing and it is debatable and you call me out or you call it invalid or whatever you do, I'm going to show great frustration. And for Lelso on the goal here, this is great frustration. And as just a fan, as somebody who just enjoys watching the sport and enjoys great things happening, I feel like just on sheer justice alone, this Leelsso goal probably should have counted despite V taking it off the board. It comes on the volley and it comes after Barcelono failed the clearance. Dan Garcia got a hand on it, but it was not enough. still finds the back of the net and it's again incredible hit by Lachelso but then V looks at it and they look at it for a while and they say in the buildup it's a handball against Cucho Hernandez. Unfortunate for Riettis that buildup even though it comes almost 15 passes later to Leelsso winds up being the thing that gets us taken off the board. So I don't know about it. Again I think just from a sportsmanship perspective I kind of say yes. I also say this because Barcelona still would have just won 5-3 instead of 5-2, but you don't know. At that point in the game, it would have been 2-2. My question on this goal is all that fair to you. Headline four is descent into chaos. Kicking off that second half, there was again the one change I mentioned, Eric Garcia in Forundai. But this continued to be end to end stuff. And what Barcelona has done in the second half of games that we've seen a plenty especially when teams press and press poorly in the first half of matches. If you don't get Barcelona dead to rights in that first half, your legs are going to start to get tired. And if those subs don't come quickly and properly and bring enough energy and organization, there's still going to be some tired legs out there. And for Rial Betis, they just did not bring the full effort. And while Fermine probably could have had a third even earlier in the match, it felt like it was a matter of time. Now the 51st minute comes along and it's Gabriel Jesus in an offside position. Unfortunately for him, 3v3 with the front three that Yamal crossed into Jesus. and offside takes it off the board. But Jesus would not have to wait very long because in the 50 seconds, so 1 minute later, it's now 4v4 going towards Valentis's goal. Fermine through ball to Gilamin all for the cross for the Jesus tap in. Fermy Lopez high boot in the buildup. That was another question that of course you're going to hear from not only Madardistas but those who were saying Barcelona and all that different stuff. Was it a high boot on FM Lopez? Again, you be the judge here. Was Leamin Mo offside? That's the other question. So quite a bit of controversy here on the third goal for Barcelona. Betty's did have a few things to complain about. I will say that they were really close, but all that does not take away the history that Barcelona made once the official and the V say that the goal counts. This is from oral Jo. He says for the first time since 1928, Barcelona have now strung together six away matches that they've scored a minimum of three goals in. They will not stop scoring. At home, sure, but definitely on the road where it has been a paradise for them. That streak has not been seen in Barcelona for 98 years. So we're going all the way back to the 1920s. That's before all that Spanish Civil War stuff. We're talking the Hosep Czeier era. We're going the way, way, way back to what they call the golden era of FC Barcelona going all the way back to the 20s. Really, really incredible stuff on the road here for Hanzi Flick and Company. And I don't want to get too conspiratorial, but I do want to talk about this probably in another date in a long form podcast with somebody. I don't know. There was something about these top top clubs. Maybe it's the mental aspect of things and hiring more mental health professionals and maybe it's just preparation, physical preparation has gotten better on the road. Maybe there is something about the pressure that these kids are under at younger ages. There's a lot of different factors here, but my little tinfoil hat theory is that away grounds just don't mean as much to the top top clubs anymore the way they used to. And maybe this is just an outlier of a season for Barcelona where they're just again the the hottest team in football and they can't stop scoring goals. And maybe it's all of that combined, but we'll talk about that at a later date because in the meantime, we have to talk about Riatis and their second goal that brings him back within one. And it comes from a Barcelona player of the past in Abde. We knew that the Abde versus Kundai. We knew that that matchup was probably not going to be won by Barcelona over the course of 90 minutes. And this is really that moment here. It's two giveaways from the Frenchman in the first half that were the warning shots. The ball for the goal though played over the top. So, not necessarily a lot that Abd had to do, but he had to make this run and he had to get his timing right, which he did. So, he gets in behind Kundai and it's 1 v one with Dan Garcia with Abd scoring the goal. Now, while the Abde goal was a good goal for Betis again brought them back within one in that same action everything fell apart because in the buildup, Fermy Lopez, was he looking to sell something? Did he properly get fouled? a lot of extracurricular stuff as Abd was off to the races scoring that goal and Laminaul and Fuguno Bernal and I go back to earlier in that first half when the goal was scored when Bernal was embarrassed. This time around it's Bernal who lets his temper get the best of him and this is unnecessary. Grabs Lamini Maul by the head. Lamini Maul of course you know was jawing himself that's why he got the yellow for I'm going to guess instigating this a little bit but Bernol totally unnecessary headbutts him clear as day. V could see it and that's a straight red card for him. So a yellow card for Leini Maul, but a red for Bernal. So again, you get back within one goal. You're at home. You feel like you could happen for Albertes, especially with the chaos in that match. But if you're going to get a straight red, it's going to be an uphill battle against Barcelona. And let's finish this with headline five, away goals for days because Barcelona was not done there. 3-2 now up a man in time for the Barcelona subs, which unlike what we've seen, we're saying, and I've said this before, back from prepandemic times, it's so much fun to have that much quality on the bench. So 61st minute Aqua was Fermine and Eddie Yi. In comes Almo and Gordon and the 4-2 comes barely with the subs on the field at all. 63rd as I mentioned they barely come on the field and the ball is in the back of the net for Barcelona again. The free kick for Barcelona. Deflection off the wall and Kubarci is the first to it. Heads it back across as Vias the goalkeeper also makes a mistake here. Makes a total meal of it and Eric gets the goal himself. So just taps it in there right in front of net. And there we go. It's 4-2. And at that point, we all felt like this game had been put to bed. 70th minute, Rafinia makes his return. Will he start against PSG? I think if he is fit, he's going to start even though he's been off for about a month now. He comes in for Leini Maul, which is great. Give Lein Maul about 20 or so minutes of rest, which is what you want to see. Rafina, as I said, returning for PSG, but returning to this match in a way that is very KY, very physical. Maybe a little bit worried about him, but I don't think he's being thrown in here unless he's ready to go and they want him to at least get some match time before Paris on Tuesday. 76 minute. It's a long hit from Elmo and Jesus is unable to get the rebound. Again, we could talk about the misses from Admy, from Gabrielle Jesus. And the way that they are kind of feast or famine with their finishing, they are certainly qualified to be substitutes this season. I feel like you don't lose a lot. And those two guys, especially with their ability to press and their ability to hit some goals, too. You feel like in second halfs of games that matter, they could also have an impact. And that was their job to come in and to start days like this where you're going to save Gordon for PSG to start that match. Not because Gordon is ahead of Adig. I mean, maybe he is slightly in the pecking order, but also Rafini. You didn't have to force him back in this game, which you might have had to do in recent seasons. Speaking of Gabrielle Jesus, in the 80th minute, he sees his exit. Gabby comes on for him. The former Riabeti youth player. That means, as I had said earlier, Rodri and Pedri both go the 90 in this one. Yeah, I I kind of expected that one of those two would not be starting this for Bernol or Gobby, but as I mentioned before, seems like Flick also prioritize getting the three points against the team that is third in La Liga so far this year, where of course by tomorrow, Real Madrid and all those can leaprog them in the standings. Either way, Gobby comes in, gives that energy you want to see from him, and with Denny Elmo playing that false nine. Also a question that we've now seen maybe in back-to-back games, we're going to see it in a third. Almo playing that false nine if Rafini isn't picked to start against PSG. Let's wrap this match up though with the fifth goal for Barcelona in the 81st minute. It's Betty's totally out of gas. You could see it, the legs retired and struggling with the press from the subs from Barcelona. Remember again, it's also 10 men for Betis, which is also why they looked a little bit haggarded here late on in the match. And so Almo finds himself not being closed down in the middle. It's pretty easy one for him just to line it up and time to set up the curling effort to make it five. Still at the finish though, so Almo puts it away for Lammanita. Meanwhile, I will also mention PSG. People were circulating the lineups here. PSG basically rotated eight or nine of the 11 that I think we're going to see start against Barcelona, particularly most of their back line. Bad news for them though, and you might see updates since then. Nuno Mendesh goes down about five, six minutes from fulltime against Strawburg. So PSG not really caring where they sit in the league on table at this moment. They know that when they really need to play their starters in Leagueone, they're just going to couple together a ton of, we'll say, head-to-head matchups against a team that are right in front of them and they'll leaprog everybody. And that kind of hubris, you know, of course, from our perspective, I do hope that it does come back to burn PSG. But the other side for Barcelona, looks like Eric came off with discomfort, Kundai had some discomfort, Jar Martin comes off at halftime fo
