Anyone Seen Liverpool? O'Hara and Cundy discuss Newcastle's heavy defeat and Liverpool being thrashed by Man City

The show starts with Newcastle United's heavy defeat to Coventry: the manager admits his side were not sharp enough in either box, while the host says Newcastle did not deserve to win but are not in as bad a position as their fans think. The conversation then turns to Liverpool being beaten heavily by Man City, with the host criticising Liverpool and the Anfield atmosphere and predicting that City will turn the hostility into an "us against the world" motivation.

We've got 32 games left. I think you said this this time last year as well. It was a long way to go. You went down to the last half hour of the season. Don't forget that. The last half hour of last season's Premier League, you could have still gone down. Yeah, I know, but we're looking good mate you have to say we'll talk about Spurs no you're not looking good no you're not looking good look we've got to get to Sam at a face because he is with Newcastle manager Matthias Leiser Thank you very much for joining us live on Talk Sport. We spoke a month ago after defeat at Leeds United and tonight again on a Monday night you've come away from home and suffered a heavy defeat, what do you put this one down to it's first of all a frustrating feeling that's something we were not hoping for for sure i think the overall picture is also a bit different today if you're realistic if you see the match how the story was um you should not lose that match by by 4-1 but the real reality is also that it happened and we need to improve especially in the boxes. Defensive-wise we need to have a better clean sheet mentality, we need to be aware when it's time to play but also when it's no risk area and we just clean that situation and on the other hand in the offensive box we need to be more sharp, just having more hunger, more desire to score. We need to arrive in the box when there are opportunities and this was today the case that we were not sharp in both boxes. 19 shots, 6 on target, you missed a hell of a lot of chances especially in that first half. What do you put it down to? A lack of sharpness you've mentioned, but is there a little bit of Premier League naivety there as well? Yeah we knew that we have a young squad. We knew that needs time also and we will give them the time. As long as we have that improvement to see and the potential that they can refill, then it's important that we are working hard to see improvements from week to week. Of course, these are young lads and that can happen but we will for sure support them throughout the whole journey. Obviously it doesn't help when you concede a penalty after seven minutes. What was your view of the decision? How do you think it changed the game? It's always difficult if you concede after a couple of minutes a penalty like that. For me also difficult to digest was the second one because in my eyes it was a clear foul on Willock. Then he's out for one minute and especially his position was then missing. One player in the backcourt area after a throw-in, so they scored the second one. So again, many aspects today which were not leading in our favour but we need to focus on what we can control. You've talked about it before about there's a lot of changes in this team from last year and blending a team when you've got so many alterations will take time is it a little bit harder than you thought it would be to get the balance right well we were aware of it in the beginning we knew that it's a long-term project and a brave journey a brave vision also the club is going to and with these up and downs we were calculating but again what I said we need to improve we need to improve fast in the Premier League because yeah small margins are deciding games and today you saw that in both boxes thank you very much for joining us live on TalkSport thank you Matthias just speaking of us yes Sam Mattface there with Newcastle manager disappointing night for them but I don't they didn't play terribly and get out I thought overall over a 90 minute game I talk a little bit like Newcastle did they deserve really getting anything out of it well they might have done we're not fair football works I'm not watching that game thinking that Newcastle run lucky I'm not saying they was unlucky but the game was end to end and in the final third Newcastle were terrible first half they were terrible and they had chances in the second half when they got themselves back into I thought they didn't deserve to win it I thought over the game Coventry weathered the storm and it's about there's an expression they have in football we have to suffer right there's going to be a period in the game where we suffer we have to sit in sit deep try and close the ball down I mean the Botman goal was an example of that where they were suffering and they dropped too deep and Botman's pulled the trigger what's a strike that is yeah and that can change the game and then they had to suffer a bit more but then this show Dean Eshton made a really good point actually in post-match saying that victory against Forrest just wonder whether they say well do you know what we can get something here yeah we are still winning this game is not over we're not going to sit back and credit to them mate they you know it wasn't a 4-1 victory but the best side one yeah all right let's go to some calls go to Rob he's a Newcastle fan all right Rob hey boys how are you matey I'm not good I don't even know where to start we just couldn't get any chances away sorry Rob what happened mate sorry mate go on Rob yeah I can't do this anymore we just would not be gonna go in front of goal you do shake your the fast I think that wasn't good yeah it's just it gets to a point yikes has not flexible enough he hasn't got that there's no midfield not flexible enough what do you mean what do you mean what do you mean what do you who's not flexible enough no creativity like it's just so and boring but like it's like almost as if we've like piled everyone onto the edge of the box not putting anyone in it's just it's just absolute chaos I do it it's organized chaos I genuinely don't know where we go well it's a bad not different you that bad rob genuinely i didn't think you said that i didn't think these are that bad like in front of goal you were bad but a 4-1 i thought was you know you fell apart okay but you had chances in the game to get back in here at 2-1 i know i can't understand what you mean but i mean it's just right i'd rather have no chances than have chances and just not do anything with them it's just so for it's such a frustrating watch well I mean look the table's nuts had you won your 11th now right had you one you'd have come fourth so you know it's not it's not it's not that bad i mean you are i mean they did get me four you're five points above spurs why why are we never marker we're not a marker we're spurs right spurs are back okay so i mean maybe six games in your mid table yeah it's not been yeah look It's a banger. It's an average star, mate. I wouldn't put anything steady there. There's nothing steady about being 11th. Well, it's holding the best players. The manager left and they're mid-table. Rob don't care about that now. Yeah, I know but I just think in the grand scheme of what's happened at Newcastle over the last eight weeks this ain't that bad Right, so listen, you're five points above Spurs but four points above Sunderland every cloud every kind of stuff in there that's put that's kind of putting it there you go see I put a smiley face a big grin on my face Yeah, all of a sudden you think... Away there, lads. Right, you're one point behind Ipswich. You know, we're five points above Spurs. All right, Rob, listen, mate. Cheers, Rob. Get your calls Ian you want to have your say on the game tonight we've got to get the Liverpool fans on as well what happened to them where is that coward well where is that coward you'll see if he raises his ugly head because he comes out of resources and quod is on getting mauled by the cheats that's amazing whoever come up with that boy that is outstanding it's um it's a bad bad day super sunday mate that was a super duper remember i said to you you was a super duper wasn't a super duper Sunday, though. It was a bit of a guff. It was a bit guff. But I wanted Man City to win. Look, I don't know what I was expecting, right? But I was expecting more from Liverpool. When you saw the teams, I'm like, I've seen the teams, a fancy city as well. No, I know, but I just, I don't know, I wanted more hostility. I don't know. They're a bit down before it. Where is this big old landfill at? Yeah, I don't know, mate. I was watching the first half thinking, do By the way, Man City didn't care. Do you know what they're going to do? They're going to harness this. They're going to use it. It's us against the world. And we're going to go out there and we don't care. Everyone hates us. We're going to move forward. I was expecting like every time man city got the ball like 50 yeah 50 000 boos like you know like what i weren't i weren't overly convinced with anfield mate no and you know Liverpool fans, they kind of knew it. When they saw the team, they had Isak, they had Gatburn, they had all the big... By the way, what's that in the Virts, mate? We need an uncomfortable conversation about that point.
