Doesn't get much worse for Manchester United. One nil up against 10-man Spurs who we've accused all season, rightly so, understandably so, of having a bit of a soft underbelly. And they've just not managed the game appropriately at all. And fair play to Spurs. They should have they should have been two, three-0 up in that game by the time they went 1-0 down. And when they go down to 10 men, you think surely not. But they have showed some metal. They've showed some resilience, some commitment that has been questioned all season. and they've got what has to be described as a hugely welldeserved equalizer. Pick up the phone, give us a call, Spurs fans, United fans, or wherever you've been up and down this beautiful country. But we're starting with Malcolm, the Spurs fan. Good evening, Malcolm. Congratulations on a well-deserved point really. Are you feeling happy about the fact that you've come back and got a point or more frustrated that you didn't go out and finish that game off by Halime? >> No, frustrated. Very frustrated. Um, it's been it's been the tower of the season actually. You know, so many games we've played so well and you know I I honestly can't understand how these players are worth so much money and they can't put the ball in the front of the net. Those forwards are absolutely shocking. Salanki Kudos holds on. Kudos holds on to the ball too long. Can't release it. Listen, I play football at a good level and um you're taught, you know, to release the ball and things like that. He holds on to it, loses it. Tank, we should have been 3 up before any of this. Tanki, you're telling me a 60 million pound striker can't get his head up and see where the Sorry, I was going to swear then, but >> you caught yourself, mate. Don't worry. >> Yeah, that that chance in where the goal is. He's headed his dad. If you look at that replay, he's down. He doesn't know where the goal is. He's just trying to hit the ball. It It's absolutely shocking. And you know, I feel s I feel sorry for just quickly. Sorry. >> Sorry, man. Go for sorry for the defense because we got a really good defense and we got a really good um midfield. Gallagher plays his heart out. He runs everywhere. Not only runs everywhere, but he he's very important for us. >> Without him, honestly, we'd be lost. >> I'd agree with you. I thought he was an absolute effort merchant on the pitch. you know, he was really sort of driving standards in the press. I thought you pressed brilliantly, particularly, you know, in the first half. You you gave Manchester United absolutely nowhere to go. It's why there was so many turnovers. But what I would say is I totally understand your point about Dominic Sanki. I mean, he has to finish that >> when Lemons gives the ball away in the first half. He's got to finish it. It's criminal. But but but equally, Malcolm, and I'm not disagreeing with you, there must be an element of slight encouragement that, you know, Benton Co absolutely lost his head. I think he deserves that red card for his reaction, but the way then the rest of the boys have reacted and got you a point, that that's something to cling on to. >> I have to be honest with you, when uh uh Embos scored, I turn off. I I just went to Sky Nator and started watching that cuz I was fuming. >> What? For some calming ASMR geography kind of TV. >> Yeah, exactly. So, did you not see the go? Because >> No. I honestly I turned off. I was that mad and upset and angry. It you know I I I don't know what to say. I'm honestly and you know I'm not um I'm a fan. I'm not because I don't go to the games. I should go but I don't know what I'd do if I was in the ground. So but I'm a fan and I I've been a fan for a long while now. >> Yeah. Mark, look mate, I want to get want to get through some calls, but I appreciate your call. I appreciate your honesty as well. I can understand why you turned off when and turned over to some sort of David Atenburgh to calm you down a little bit, but good response from your boys. Mark is a Spurs fan. Mark, you've heard that conversation. Are you more happy about the response or frustrated you haven't finished that game off earlier? >> Frustrated to be honest. I think um it's one of them the game got away from us, but you have to finish the chances. How many did we want to miss? >> Yeah. >> And not just that, I heard your comments, Mike. I don't agree with you to be fair. I think that it's a really soft red. I I don't think it is a red. He hasn't. He has He's not thrown his head. The two of them squared up. >> He has, mate. He has, you know, I mean, look, it's probably a bit too strong to call it a headbutt because, let's be honest, it's not. But he he's But he's headbutted him. You know, it's soft if you're talking about sort of what happens in the street, but on a football pitch, you can't do that, mate. And and there were two really reckless challenges. I think they're reckless challenges, but I think Luke Shaw's reaction has to uh have to warrant more than what it does. He started the whole situation and then as soon as they go face to face, he's just pulled away. There's no there's no uh head but thrown there. They've just come no. >> No, there is, mate. He definitely sort of shs it. >> I think Shaw's bought that. I think he's bought it. And I I've said it for ages. I think the game's gone. I mean, I I I watch a lot more non-league football now, and I think the game's absolutely gone. >> Look, I would agree with you on that point, Mark. You know, it is incredibly soft. But I I don't think that in the modern game. You Benton Cole's got to be wiser. He's got to hold his head. And that's sort of partly the problem with Spurs this season, and you'll know more than me because you watch them week in week out. But there's this sort of I don't know, a lack of nouse and a soft underbelly. And I think that the way that they've reacted and got a goal, it's the least they deserved because that's probably the best I've seen Spurs play all season to be honest, mate. >> I I I agree with you on that. I think that Spurs have been awful all season. Spurs have been awful for the last three years, longer. Um but we're not we're not getting any rubber either. I think, you know, we're not getting any look whatsoever. I think it was a really soft red if I'm totally honest with you. Um, I think if Benor had gone down first, I think Shaw probably gets sent. >> He's only pushed him though. He's only put Look, we can agree to disagree on the red, but fair play. Fair play. You've got a point. And mate, it's the least that your boys deserved because as I say, it was probably the best I've seen Spurs and I know that the the the bars been pretty low. Um, but it is the least they deserve. Look off. Manchester United won. 10 man Spurs won. Roberto Deserby side shown some character, shown some metal, come from behind to get what is a muchdeserved point for my money, the least they deserved from that game. Had numerous chances in the first half to go ahead. So, let's hear from some Manchester United fans. Dave, thank you for calling. Commiserations. It's a a shocking performance from your boys. What do you make of it? And and what do you want to say, mate? >> M I'm absolutely livid. I'm not going to swear, mate. I want to, but I ain't going to swear. Don't you worry. I appreciate it. >> I'm absolutely livid. I'm I'm fuming. >> I'm sorry, but he's got to go. Michael Carrick has got to go. He's he's he's just a glazer in yes man. That's all he is. He's honestly he's a great player for our club and we love him for that, but he isn't manag managerial material in the January transfer. I know he wasn't backed in in January, but we needed backup for Cesco. We've not we got nothing now. But he's injured. We've got Xerxy and we're playing Boomer up through the middle. This is Manchester United for God's sake. We've had four world class strikers. Always had Sheringham, York, York, Kohley, Solskja. This this isn't Manchester United and he must go. And I'll tell you something now, Matt. They've got they've got to bring somebody and he's got a bit of steel and Antonio Conte is available at the moment and he's a winner. And I want to see somebody at my club running up that touch line and f and and and giving them players. Michael Carrick just stands there. Kee needs to get at that club and sort us out. >> It's an Hey, Dave. Dave, look, it's an interesting point and I I can totally understand your frustration. Look, I'm not a United fan. I'm a Forest fan, but I'm a fan. And so I I totally get the frustration and the desire for you to sort of want something new. You mentioned there the board, they haven't backed him. I feel like he's sort of, you know, swimming with one of his hands tied behind his back because you've got the same back four that started the Premier League season four years ago. Like you say, you you've not got any backup. You're bringing on Joshua Xerxy, bless him, to to, you know, up front. I But then I equally I I take your point about the in-game management. I'm really surprised he didn't bring Rashford on when it was nil nil. Um so but I kind of think maybe it's a bit too early six games in to be saying sack him when when he's clearly not been backed in the right way. But but maybe Dave, he's not been backed because do the board fully trust him? Do you think the board fully trust character, you know, to get your Champions League again this season or or maybe win a domestic trophy? >> No, he he won't get his Champions League this year. He won't. We we're falling we're falling behind badly now. I do feel sorry for him. I really do cuz he hasn't been backed. He's been thrown under the bus just like Ollie was. And he he you know, the backing is not there for him. He's he should have got a striker in January because Cesco was injuryprone. He's is and now he's injured again. We don't know how long he's been out. We're sticking. I thought to I thought the only positive today I thought Believer was superb when he played last that last 25 minutes. >> Yeah, >> I thought he was I thought he was brilliant. I thought he good on the ball and that >> but um I just think I I do feel sorry for Mike because um he he has been thrown under the bus. But we need some steel. We need somebody to be on that touch line and say and shout at them, listen, you're not good enough and and like you say, Con wins the title at Napoli, wins the title at Chelsea. He's he's a ball winner, but they won't they won't they won't get him because because he's got too much to say. >> Yeah, Dave, I take your point. >> United need. >> I I take your point and I can see why having drawn to Spurs who were bottom of the table, why you would feel the need for a change. I kind of just I I always feel a certain affinity towards young English managers and and want them to be given a chance. But look, I'm not a Manchester United fan, so I can't really speak to whether or not it's the right thing. Jack is a Manchester United fan. Thanks for calling up, mate. How you doing? >> Wait, three weeks for that. My god. I mean, I just I don't really know. I mean, just on the last call, I don't know what to say. Like, no one knows what can help us. We can try a manager with a with amazing skill. We can try a former player. we can spend loads in a transfer on and ridiculous wages and then we don't do that and nothing's working at the moment and today if I was Spurs fan I'd be buzzing their players were playing for deserby they were they were playing for him and it's not to say our players weren't playing for Carrick but the effort there was abysmal and you know we've got we've got players who like Martinez who's Maldini for Argentina but Emanuel Buouay for us and it's just like we've we've got nothing like our defense is shocking our midfield attack were great last year it got the hopes up and I just don't know what the issue is. But my my my main problem this season has been our effort like from the first game against Hull um and then to Man City and then when you look at against 10 men at Man City like why has that not been addressed between now and today? >> Yeah. >> Second like first half they were way better than us. Second half we actually before our goal we started controlling the game and then they go down to 10 minutes and they control the game. I I don't understand how that's not been addressed or looked at. But yeah, I just I just feel like there's nothing. We've just got to wait and hope something happens because whatever we do, we've tried since Fergie's gone and none of it's worked. >> Jack, I think you articulate perfectly the issue about Manchester United is it's like where do you start? What's the main problem? It doesn't, you know, you throw money at it, it's not worked. You've had so many different managers, it's never worked. And and yes, I mean, I know Mourinho has won some things for you, but it's ne you've never really looked anything like, you know, a modicum of what you were under Alex Ferguson. It just feels that the the problem at Manchester United is so vast and so multifaceted. Where do you even begin? And that's where part of my defense to Michael Carrick comes from is it's only six games in and I just wonder does changing it does bring in Conte in like our previous caller, does that really change the culture at the football club? Jack, thank you for your call. Thomas is a United fan. Thanks for calling up, mate. Commiserations. I mean, that was a tough old watch, wasn't it? >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, first half performance was probably the worst performance I've ever seen at my United team player. And you're having people saying s Carrick and it's Carrick's fault, but it's not Carrick's fault. It's the players. The players don't care. I mean, I don't I don't even know where to start. I'm at the dreadful. Yeah, he looked like he was running in trial today. I know he's been out injured, so maybe should give him a bit of slack, but I just think Yeah, he looks incredibly sloppy. Like much of your midfield, mate. The amount of intercepted passes or Waywood Waywood passes from your boys was shocking. >> Yeah, it was. I mean, if if Ahmed does come back from injury, which he has, then don't start him. Maybe it's not the right thing to start him because he might be off the ball. But I mean, Tielemans Tielemans, he looked dreadful. Bruno was quiet. Yeah, it took for Ba to come on for a midfielder to actually start running. and start making passes go forward trying to create something. >> I agree with you Thomas. Look, naturally the conversation from from fans, you know, is is going to be around the future of the manager. Do you think that a change of manager would change the fortunes at the football club or would you rather be patient with Carrick um and give him more time? >> Well, I don't think change chopping and changing managers worked for us for the past 10 years. I think we should I mean it's hard to stick with a manager when results aren't going your way but but what who who we going to get next? I don't think we've tried managers like Conte with Jose and he doesn't Jose Marino and it doesn't work so we might as well stick with Carrick and try and >> back him. I mean I don't think the Glazers have backed him at all in summer. I thought it was a really really really dreadful summer if I'm honest. >> Yeah. No >> for Manchester United. But >> mate and this is the this I totally understand. A lot of my friends are Manchester United fans, passionate Manchester United fans, and they're almost at a loss about what to do. How do you begin to solve a problem like Manchester United, and and it feels very much like Spurs, but on a much bigger scale. You've got two big football clubs where the culture seems to be completely chaotic, completely disjointed, and there's a psychological issue where you just wonder where the goals are going to come from or you wonder where the win is going to come from. And I've got to say that today there were much more green shoots from Tottenham who fully deserved to win that game. And if it wasn't for personnel, if it wasn't for some terrible shots on target from the likes of what could us off target a brilliant chance, Salanki's guilt chance in the first half. It should have been 340 by by the time United came close to scoring.
