talkSPORT CLASH on Declan Rice & Bukayo Saka for Arsenal as Joel Beya CALLS OUT Graeme Souness!
talkSPORT guests clash over Arsenal's 2-2 at Bayern, with Joel Beya hitting back at Graeme Souness over Declan Rice and defending Bukayo Saka
The show discusses Arsenal's 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich and what it means for Rice, Saka and the Ballon d'Or race around Harry Kane. Dougie Critchley analyses Bayern, Arsenal and Manchester United's humiliation at Como, while Joel Beya argues with the studio over Rice, Saka and Souness.
- Kane should not drop back too much, but his vision, touch and passing are still top class, and he is now so relaxed that a half-chance is enough. — He has scored in 10 consecutive Champions League games, with touches and passing worthy of Beckham, Ronaldo or Zidane, and his scoring numbers as England captain are off the charts.
- Both Bayern Munich and Arsenal can accept the 2-2, as both showed their quality despite imperfect starts to the season. — Bayern had kept only three clean sheets, had just gone top of the Bundesliga after rivals dropped points and were missing several key players; Arsenal have not lost in 90 minutes since May 2025 or in the league phase since November 2024.
- Declan Rice is a brilliant player, perfect for this Arsenal side, and worth the £100m move. — His drive, commitment and versatility have been key to Arsenal's recent success, and going from West Ham to 80 England caps and a Premier League title makes him one of the few guaranteed success stories of a £100m transfer.
- Como are a very good side, Manchester United were humiliated there, and it feels like the end for Michael Carrick. — Como opened with a comfortable 4-1 win over RB Leipzig, yet United were torn apart by Nico Paz in one of the most comfortable small grounds in Europe, before their captain publicly criticised a teammate.
- The Ballon d'Or is mainly between Harry Kane and another Bayern player, not Mbappe, and Kane could become the first English winner. — Kane has the goals but did not win the Champions League or World Cup; Mbappe had a great World Cup but Real Madrid went trophyless in the three major competitions for a second year; Yamal missed too many games through injury.
- Arsenal showed character, personality and game understanding at Bayern's ground, and overall there are many positives to take. — The team dealt with Bayern's two different pressing approaches, executed well and created chances, though the final ball could have been more clinical.
- Saka has not been at his best recently and should take on full-backs more rather than always playing the easy pass back. — He may have been carrying a minor niggle for weeks, and the expectation is that he keeps beating full-backs on the outside or inside instead of taking the easy way out.
- Saka has had a good start and the negative label around him is unfair; he can still go to the next level. — He did well for England during the international break and scored and assisted coming off the bench, and he is starting to show the form that made people love him.
- Declan Rice is a complete player and the best signing in England for a long time; Graeme Souness is wrong about him, and being a legend does not make every criticism fair. — Against Bayern, Rice won 10 of 13 duels, made 90 passes, had the most touches on the ball and was not just passing sideways, and he answered with a goal.

I don't like to see Harry drop back too much, but Krikey when he does his vision. >> Wow. >> And his touch on the ball and the touch on the pass. Brilliant. Absolutely. Well, you know, if Beckham had done that or someone Ronaldo or um or Zidane, some of that you were saying, "Wow, wow." You know what a player that was that was sublime. >> Yeah, he scored again. Then he had a couple more chances and that's 10 consecutive Champions League goals. >> Yeah. >> 10 consecutive games. Sorry. >> Yeah. You know what it's like when you're at that stage your career, your England captain and your your goal scoring is off the ch is is off the charts. You know, >> you just relax, don't you? It's like it's like now you might not see him for 20 minutes, but he knows any half chance, boom, go one. >> Exactly. There was a moment, did you see it? Where Harry Kane took a quick quick goal kick? >> Yeah, I did. >> And then he scored off it. I was like, what's going on here? >> No, no, no. He's a leader. Incredible. >> It was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Harry got his customer a goal against the gunners. That's now 16 goals in 23 games with nine of those penalties. He also got the Sis B's first goal with a sensational pass. Harry's now the favorite with Yamal and Mbappy his biggest competitors. Now Mbappy's had a great season. Yamal we know has got amazing talent and so much um to come. >> Yes. >> But this has got to be Harry's year >> 100%. Yeah. We can't have the same thing that happened when Leandowski should have won it and he missed out. Was it to Messi Ronaldo? Harry Kane has been the best player in the calendar year. Some of the goals he scored for Bayern Munich setting records left, right, and center. I think he will get it. It's weird though. A couple of months ago, it was Harry Kane. They changed to Lein Mal favorites. We'll have to see this morning with Coral who is the favorite. But I'm hearing that Harry Kane is the favorite at the moment. >> By the way, I tell you who played well for them for Bayern, their center forward, who's a fullback, Canadian. What's his name up front? >> Alonso Davis on the left. >> Oh, big style. Yeah. How quick is he >> by the way? Rapid >> the way he took his goal as well. Beautiful left footed as well. >> That was a proper finish. >> Oh, no. No. He's uh I would be put if he was think they're going back. I said get lost. Stay up there. >> He's had injury problems before um for the last couple of seasons, but he was fantastic. I agree. Gabri was poor. His decision. >> Well, I'll be honest. I wasn't sure about him and he had a couple of half chances, more than half chance. >> Two set of mids were good for Bayern Munich. Very young boys. >> Yes. Oeno was strong as well. Yeah. >> So with the players that they missed, Alise Mushiala was injured as well and also Kimich obviously his father died. >> Yeah. No, no, no. Listen, it's a big result you know banners even with with five or six out there still a very good >> right to reveal all the inside knowledge about who might or may win the banor come Monday. This a very very good morning to European football expert Douggee Critley. Douggee, morning. >> Morning doggy. >> Good morning. Thanks for having me on guys. >> You're welcome Doogie. First of all, did you did you see the Bayern Arsenal game cracking game? >> I did. What a thriller. I thought it was really really entertaining. I think both sides will probably take that result given their kind of iffy starts to the season by their own absolutely brilliant standards. You know, Barn have only kept three clean sheets so far this season. It was only this weekend that they went top of the Bundesliga after Fryberg and Brussia Dortmund dropped points. They're missing a number of key players as Gabby mentioned there. So to finish with the 2-2 draw against a side that reached the final last year in Arsenal and Arsenal are looking to go from a quarterfinal to a semi-final up to a final and then finally win it. Uh they still haven't lost uh within 90 minutes since May 2025. They haven't lost a league game uh in the league phase uh since November 2024 and there was some phenomenal passing on the night. Odard's ball to EZ Harry Kane through to Alfonso Davis. It was a real feast for the eyes. I've really enjoyed it. >> Okay. What what do you make of um Declan? He gets the equalizer. Um some people are still saying, "Oh, he's not as good as what people make out." How do you feel about Declan Rice? >> I think he's a brilliant player and perfect for this Arsenal side given the strength of the other midfielders. You know, Odigard may be a little bit more of a tempo setter. Bruno Gi Mar is so forwardinking and combative and has scored some amazing goals from outside the box. But I don't think Arsenal achieved what they have over the last few years without the drive and the commitment and the ver versatility of of Declan Rice as well. Uh and to go from a player that had never really consistently finished in the top 10 and yes had won a conference league with West Ham to now being a nailedon starter for England 80 caps for England now a Premier League champion. It's an amazing story and one of the few guaranteed success stories of a 100 million pound move. Douggee, a lot of people wouldn't have watched much of um Ko um obviously getting to the Champions League. They're in um fifth position now in Syria as well. So having a good season again. How good are they? And or was it just Manchester United was so bad? >> I think they're a very good side, Gabby. I think very few sides will want to want to play them this year. They beat RB Lipig comfortably 4-1 on their opening weekend. They did lose against Farold last weekend or last week I should say, sorry. And Ces Fàregas was talking about their their troubles in transition there. So I thought actually Man United might carry a chance in transition against Ko. But to be humiliated like this, you know, in >> crazy, >> you know, in a in a very small stadium by European standards, you know, this wasn't a way at Sansa. This wasn't the Aliens Arena. This wasn't the new camp. This is one of the most middle class comfortable environments to play football in the entirety of Europe. And for Nico Paz to have the freedom of what felt like Italy and Batina and Duvikas as well caused so much damage to Man United. And then for another Man United player, the captain this time to come out and criticize a club member on the back of Landre Martinez's >> comments last week as well. It just does feel like sort of end of day stuff for Michael Carrick. >> Yeah. What about just finally Doogie um Balonor do you think Harry does it? Do you think he gets the vote? >> I think it's going to be very tight. I think you can make a very good case for a number of players. I don't think anyone had the complete campaign because obviously Harry didn't win the Champions League. He didn't win the World Cup. If you're doing it on goal scored alone, he's by far and away the the sort of favorite. Michael Lisa, I think, has got a very good shout as well, given the fact he had such a brilliant year for Bayern Munich. I think Lemal probably played enough games last year. I think he missed 17 games with injury. He didn't have quite a strong enough World Cup. So, I actually think it's between Kane. >> Nob, >> not Mbappe for me. No, Real Madrid went trophyless in the three major competitions for the second consecutive year. He did have a great World Cup, but I think it's between Kane and Elise. And with the current swell of momentum behind him, I think we might have an English champion for the first time. So this is Michael. >> Nice one, Doogie. Thank you. Richley, the European football expert. Just before we break, just have a think of this our listeners. Right. This is scores on the financial doors. Revenue Manchester United 678 million. Como 41 million. Wages Manchester United 302 million. Ko 72 million >> 643 still to come. Now Declan Rice scored a late equalizer as Arsenal played out well entertaining 22 draw wasn't it against a weakened Bayside at the Alliance Arena last night. Great atmosphere as well. Whoa. It wasn't all rosy for Arsenal however as Saka limped up after just 10 minutes clutching his quad. It was his replacement Eza who opened the scoring for Arsenal looked lively as well. The gunners boss Mikuel Ateta spoke after the game on how impressed he was with his side. >> The character, the personality, but as well the quality that we showed um to understand what the game was requiring uh because he changed because there were moments and they changed especially the way they were pressing in two different ways. We were very aware of that and I think the way the team had understand the game, it was uh really really good. And then execution wise obviously we had some great moments. We could have been even better in certain aspect to be more clinical and to generate the final shot. But I think overall is a is a game that we can take a lot of positive from. >> Yeah, certainly. To give us more, we're join the man who backed Arsenal to win last night. He left Clappam this morning 4:30 to make sure he got here. Content creator Joe Bea is here with us. Joe, morning. Good morning, Gabby. >> You all right? Listen, >> traffic, >> no traffic. I made it in nice and smooth. I just want to say you guys do owe me an apology by the way. You said we were going to lose. So if you want to sign right here, Gabby, >> but you said you were going to win. >> Yeah. Well, we practically did win, you know. No, you didn't. 57% possession away at the Alias Arena. That's good stuff right there. >> Yeah. Well, they did have seven injury problems, didn't they? You know, >> Helen, if you can sign this, please know you know you can stick that with the Sun. >> Let's remember Vincent company was without star frontman. Alisi of course and Ma with Louis Daz Diaz only fit enough to make the bench and >> so he did he did have a few problems didn't he so did we we didn't we didn't have Celiba you know sack come on mate just cuz he's your ex former villa >> I think's better than >> at the moment I like Conor but no not no I can't say that no and then you Saka he obviously went off limping >> don't forget the big one Solace Solace with the assist I've not heard anyone say but maybe Saka's had a little niggle for a few weeks cuz he's not been at his sparkling best, has he? >> I disagree because if you see Yeah. If you see what he did during the international period for England, he did really well and like Arsenal. >> Yeah. Well, it's still part of his form, right? And if you look at, you know, the other day he scored against little and assisted coming off the bench as well. So, you can't say he's not been playing well. I think there's a stigma right about now when it comes to Saka where, oh, he's not been playing well. He's actually had a good start to the season. >> Well, I I disagree. I, you know, I'm looking for more from him cuz >> What are you looking for? I'm looking for him to constantly having the ball and taking fullbacks and giving fullbacks a runaround either down their side or coming inside or mixing it up and beating them. I do I just think he's he's taking the sometimes taking the easy way out by just going back. Do you reckon he's got another level? >> Yeah. >> Do you reckon he's got another level though? I I agree. Sake is a very good player and he can be consistent. But I I >> in a sense what Al's saying is can he go to that next level? You know, you look at like Alise, look at the Min, you look at these these sort of players. Has Saka got that next level or are we seeing the best of him? >> I I think he does. I think he is. If I'm honest with you, compare him to last season and what he's been like in the last 18 months prior. It wasn't very good. And again, that was down to the injury, but I think he's starting to show the same form where we fell in love with Sack in the first place. But he's just got the stigma attached to him at the moment, so it's tough. Why is that? >> He's on the young. So like I'm I'm just saying I I'm just expecting a bit more of that sort >> because the levels are high to answer your question. >> What about um Havitz? Because I look at the last game against Leadeds weak giving the ball away. I look at last night weak not offering anything. Is it time for Jockz to get a run of games? Would you say no play? I still play Havitz because first of all he's been really good and faithful throughout you know when you look at him and the thing with Havitz is you expect Magic at some point even if he doesn't play well he looks like more of a goal threat that's two games you've been happy with >> Yeah I'm sure you had two bad games as well in a row >> well yeah >> yeah but but I just look at Arsenal then like Havitz Mourinho jockarez would you trade all of them in for Alvarez if you could get him >> no not all of them doesn't make sense Because I think we forget Alvarez didn't actually score a lot of league goals last year for Atletico. It was like eight goals in the league last year for >> at that Arsenal side. You throw Alvarez down the middle. You a different >> I would I would like him but again this is not the same Alvarez that we saw at Man City by the way and I think because people don't watch La Liga. I know you don't watch La Liga cuz people don't watch La Liga channel. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Is it 20 quid a month? >> Extra cost everything. >> I I don't know why we're talking about Arsenal. I think Man United, you know, they're in big trouble. >> Well, you because you're an Arsenal man. That's why. >> No, but I think we need to focus on the fact that because I'm an Arsenal man, it's my time to shine and say we're actually the biggest club in England at the moment. >> No, it's true. >> In what sense? >> Well, in the most basic sense, mate, Man City, they're about to get docked 100 points. No, no, >> we don't know. But >> No, no, no. They're going to go down to non-league football, mate. They're going to be playing with Essie Dons. I still think City of the Edge on Arsenal this year. >> I do. Yeah. The better side. >> Yeah, I do. >> I disagree. Do you know what's going to happen to Man City and I'm calling it now. You see how Bruno Fernandez all of a sudden went out and started doing the blame game yesterday and you know and you can see it's falling apart. You just need one or two teams to crush their spirit. We saw it last week in the Champions League. You know, obviously Liverpool couldn't do it before that, but if you if you get a team to crush their spirit because they're in such turmoil, they're going to start pointing fingers and blaming because what they're going through is so deep, it also affects their families as well. And when you're in an institution and it affects your families, you're going to start playing the blame game soon. >> When do you look at Arsenal, you say they're the best side, you the performance. >> What's wrong with the performance? >> Were you happy with that performance? >> Away at Bayern Munich 57% >> forest. No, we're here to talk about Bayern Munich. Do not do not deflect Gabby. >> Well, Bayern Munich were a better side. >> No, they weren't. >> Was good. Apart from me, I'm looking at Arsenal. I'm saying I'm not declin. >> Well, there wasn't a fantastic performance. >> First of all, you sound like Graeme Sun at the moment about >> Declan Gabri and Alonso Davis as their wingers, no no Mushi, no Kimich, no Elise, no Diaz, no Leonard Cole. But when you when you talk when you talk about Joe when you talk about Graham Sunnis though Graeme Sunnis you know he can he can back up what he's saying by what he's won he can >> no >> he can of course what he's done >> of course what he's done yes but it doesn't mean that it's fair what he's saying right >> Delan I disagree with him because I think Declan >> is a complete player I do I disagree on that but I do respect Sunnis massively >> but Declan I'm saying is the best buy there's been in England for a long long time And that's what I'm saying. Just because someone's a legend doesn't mean everything they're saying is right. If you look yesterday, >> Deck won 10 out of his 13 jewels duels, right? He made 90 passes, etc. The most on the ball. He's in the third half. He's in the middle. He's not just passing side to side. So that's why when when Deck scored and he did that, >> Graeme Sunnis, that's for you, sir. Thank you very much. Thank you. >> And Graeme holds up his medals. >> It don't matter. >> Sorry, I need another I need another arm. >> It don't matter. Deck's career still going. >> Still going. >> Do you think though with with Graeme? >> What about Harry? Then tell me about Harry Kane's performance. >> Top player. Magnificent. Top player. I mean, he's probably the only player in the world you see take a goal kick and you're not even mad at it. No. >> Like I really do hope he wins Bondor, man. Top player. >> And I'm glad he's not doing it. >> He wasn't told to do that, was he? He just done that off his own back. Manchester United didn't do last night. They didn't suddenly say, "Hold on a minute. This is not working. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do it. Come here. You come with me." You know, there's no direction on the pitch. They can't just keep the touch. >> When are you filming with Rio? Will he be your friend? What's his name? Steve will fight, won't they? >> I mean, they mate, the group chat was a bit >> The group chat I thought, is it working? Like, >> silence. >> Silence, man. Honestly, I couldn't believe it. But you know what? I also think they're used to it. >> Yeah, >> they're used to it. What's their aims this season? Like, are they trying to get in Europe? Are they trying to stay away from relegation? Like, >> who? United. >> Yeah, United. Well, I thought they at the start of the season, I thought after the way they finished, I thought, "Yeah, United could be a player this season. Now, I think if they make a European place, it's a it's a massive bonus." >> I'm just watching them though, mate. I'm like, you got back into the Champions League. Have a go. >> You could end up not even getting into the playoffs. I'm looking at Tieleman's Shadow of the player that got that was Aston's best player last season. Looks like you can't run. >> But it can't be the player's fault every single time though, Gabby. That like every manager's fault as well. What is going on? >> You got to have a bit of pride. You're not you're not going to si with the greatest respect. You know, you're not in Turin. You're in beautiful Como who were honored to have you there. You don't get battered like that off the pitch. >> Like even Ka, I'm watching him closely cuz everyone likes to blame Marcus Rashford or Rashford's fault. Okay, Rashford wasn't involved yesterday. Is he to blame? >> Ka's not running around. >> You got to say, how can Rashford not get in that side? >> So, who would you have signed in the summer if you were Man United? Because I think that's a big issue. They've gone out. They've gone and they've signed three. >> Yeah. But you don't know >> players in the middle of the park. >> You don't know who's buying them. You know, is it Jason? You don't know how much he had to spend. >> But who would you buy? Who would you have got position wise? That is >> I would have got midfield. Man United midfielder are not good enough. >> But they got legs in midfield >> but they got three of them and they got the Labour for that reason. >> Ble's got legs but Tielemans has them. I would have went and got a top left back. Luke Shaw he played a lot of games last season. going to miss a Premier League game I don't think but he has got injury issues in the past right back how can you have dalow and mazari as your fullbacks in 2026 Manchester United >> I don't know if I was Man United fans I'll be >> the only striker >> fuming and let us know how you feel give us a call
