"HE DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM!" Rory Jennings SLATES Viktor Gyökeres after FAILING at Arsenal!
talkSPORT guest slates Viktor Gyökeres and calls for Max Dowman to play for Arsenal
The clip discusses Arsenal's title race, Manchester City's off-field situation, and Arsenal's attacking issues. Rory Jennings argues Gyökeres is a failed signing who has not solved the striker problem, while also pushing for Max Dowman to be unleashed; there is pushback on the scrutiny around Saka, and a prediction that Arsenal will be too strong for Forest.
- Arsenal and Manchester City are the two best teams in the country and will fight for the league title. — It feels like those two are clearly above the rest and will go hell for leather for the title.
- The uncertainty around Manchester City's charges could dilute the appeal or legitimacy of winning the league this year; he feels football is broken. — The noise over City's charges and verdicts leaves everyone unsure what the title race means, and Arsenal cannot afford to take risks around that.
- Players will not be distracted from wanting to win by City's off-field situation; once they cross the white line, they still want it. — Bruno Guimarães running into the crowd at the Emirates did not look like a player thinking the title might not count.
- Viktor Gyökeres is a complete dud, not good enough to play for Arsenal or lead their line, and he has not solved the problem he was signed to solve. — His touch and style do not fit, he is nowhere near the level of his teammates; Adebayor was ten times the player, he is Chamakh-level, and his goals last season were inflated by playing in a very good team.
- Arsenal and Mikel Arteta already have the answer to their problems but are not using it; Max Dowman should be thrown in. — Dowman is exceptional and ready, a Wayne Rooney-level talent; even at 15 or 16, he should be given a chance.
- The scrutiny on Bukayo Saka is too much; Saka is a top and highly effective player. — He has been part of Arsenal's best years, and while his goal consistency can be discussed, his overall value should not be dismissed.
- Saka's form can be debated, but his quality should not be questioned; Tuchel mishandled him. — Saka elevates England when he plays; Tuchel did not play him against Argentina and then used him three days later, and you saw the performance.
- If City win the league, it is because Arsenal lack firepower, not because of their goalkeeper, midfield or defence; Arsenal need to unleash Max Dowman. — The other areas are good enough; the missing piece is goals and attacking explosiveness, so Dowman should be let loose.
- If it were up to him, he would take Max Dowman to the World Cup as a wild card. — Dowman is exceptional and can give the team something different.
- Arsenal will be too strong for Nottingham Forest; this is a bad game for Forest. — Forest need an easy fixture, their recent results have been poor — the Coventry result was bad and the Palace defeat was heavy — and Arsenal are just too strong.

Arsenal. Um What what what what do you make of it? Because they're they're going to have to go you know, hell for leather with with Manchester City for this for this league title. And with everything that's going on and how football feels, it it it feels like they're going to go those are the two best teams in the country. Do you agree with that, right? >> I do agree with that. >> Right. Um how how have you assessed Arsenal and how they've been? And going into this game. >> Arsenal have been excellent, actually. I think there was an aberration, wasn't there? There was one terrible result. But those things happen. They can be used to sharpen the mind. They weren't very good against Leeds, but they found a way. They found a way off the going to go down. Bruno Guimarães scoring a winner, the second winner in six games. You know, he's already worth six points to them. I think I think Arsenal are going to be fine. But what I think is an interesting conversation about Arsenal, though, is you know the noise around Man City, the charges and the guilty verdicts and whatever else. People were constantly having a conversation, weren't they, about what does this mean? What does this conversation mean to Man City? How will Enzo Maresca focus the minds of Man City? Will it be distracting? Are the players going to be up for it? Like what's No, really really went What's it going to What's it going to mean to everyone else? Like for Manchester City, we saw that they were totally focused and it galvanized the club. It galvanized the fans. Their way support was unbelievable. They're together. I think for for a side like Arsenal who who they don't really know what they're up against. Arsenal know that they could finish second and probably still win the league. They can't take that risk. >> On a technical Yeah, no, you can't. >> They can't take that risk. But equally, I don't know if it makes it slightly more diluted, slightly less appealing to win the league this year. I feel like football's broken. >> No, you mean That's a really interesting way to put it. But I don't You know what we say about players, though. They they We're seeing someone on our screens here. You know, I'm looking at Bruno Guimarães running into the crowd at the Emirates. He doesn't look like a player who's going, "Ah, this might not count." Do you know what I mean? Like they're going to they're going to cross the white line and they're going to want to be as hungry to win as Oh, because it can all If they do win it 100%. do win it I feel sorry for them that they've even got to go up against it. All of us. If they This is not to take it back to the City thing, but in in in terms of Arsenal going for the title, 100%. >> interesting thing about Arsenal is, and I'm I'm just surprised that we haven't really seen it yet, but I feel like the one the one flaw in the side is scoring goals. Like I I I think Yocarez is a complete dud. I think he's just >> I think he'll be gone by the end of the >> He's just spent four seasons. He's he's he's just not good enough. He's obviously I think he's obviously not good enough to play for Arsenal. He's obviously not good enough to lead the line for Arsenal. He's obviously not good enough to follow in the footsteps of of the strikers who've represented that team. And you know you know like I was having I was actually having this conversation with Jason Cundy. You know when you think about like the great players? Like I'm not saying he's got to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry. I'm not saying that. He's got to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. >> You're rude. >> To be fair. >> For example, Emmanuel Adebayor was a good player. But he was like 10 times the player of of Yocarez. Like 10 times. Like he is this is Marouane Chamakh levels, and they're such a good team now. They're such a they're such a good side. Like Victor Yocarez, there was some elephant's elephantine touch that he took when he came up. I was just like this bloke isn't part of this team. He's not the same footballer. >> I think stylistically it just doesn't work. >> problem there was >> He scored a lot of goals last season. >> No, they're >> Just because because he's playing for [laughter] a very good team. >> There was a problem though at Arsenal. There was a problem, and the problem was The problem was effectively solved when they signed him. And I don't think he's solved the problem that he was meant to solve. But the interesting thing like talking about Yocarez being a being not not good enough and and being very untalented is is kind of neither here nor there. The point is, and this is where I think it's more exciting. I feel like Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, they have the answer to all these problems. And they're not they're not yet using it. And I'm very excited to see it really. I feel like Max Dowman's just got to play at some point. >> I mean I mean Saka look Saka's you know getting going again, and there's been a lot of scrutiny towards Saka. I I think personally the scrutiny on Saka's too much personally. I I I don't see it. see Saka as a top player. Like don't get me wrong, there can be consistencies in terms of goals and stuff like that, but people are always on to him to to to to up the levels and be this and be that, but I just see him as a really effective player. He's been part of Arsenal's best years. He's done it No, no, no. I find the the conversation around Saka, I think the form conversation is is one that we can legitimately have. But the but the quality isn't one. Like Saka we saw it for England. We saw it for England. I'll never forgive Thomas Tuchel not playing him against Argentina and playing him three days later again and you saw the performance. Like Bukayo Saka when he would come on for England and Mata Wakey would go like you would see the elevation. So I don't think that I don't think we need to have that conversation. Saka on one side definitely. This is where Mac Allister wants to break in. No, this is no, but it's the other side. That's the that's where he goes. Yeah, look he's he's he's 15 or 16. How can you give him a chance? Let No, you can't YOU CAN'T GO YOU CAN'T GO OH HE'S A he only plays on the right. Of course he only plays on the right. Give him a chance. Let him get used to playing on the right, man. Just just chuck him in. >> [laughter] >> Do you know what I mean? He is he is unbelievable. You know that goal? Look, we saw him we saw him do it to Everton last year when in my opinion it was a decisive moment for winning But you know the way that he beat the man? You know when he sort of shimmy he doesn't really do anything. But he did it against Ipswich this year. You know when you beat the man but without a skill like he's not doing a rainbow flick. The the guy is on the floor he just went past him like he wasn't >> [laughter] >> Mate you ain't done anything. Gazza used to do I saw Elicea do that to Casemiro one year when Casemiro was done. That was the one where it was like leave the football before it leaves you. And it was like Oh, he just he just kind of it's that weird one where it's not even a full move. It's like a half drop of the shoulder and the player just falls down. Like cuz they just do it so quickly and smoothly. It's just like what was that? That wasn't even a mad skill. It was just sheer grace. Do you know what I mean? And Mac Allister Yeah, I think Mac Allister could be the answer for Arsenal. You know if you know if you're looking at Arsenal and you think Man City are likely to win the league. Yeah. The reason is because Arsenal don't have the firepower. It's obviously not the goalkeeper, the midfield, or the defense. It's the firepower. I think that what they need to do is detonate Mac Allister. >> Yeah, he's he's he's incredible. >> If I If I was an Arsenal fan I'd just be going just chuck this kid >> Just like you love it. >> Just chuck this kid. I think he's brilliant. Yeah, I think he's I think he's like Wayne Rooney level. >> Yeah. >> Like you know when you've seen these kids break through? >> Yeah. >> Like he's ready. Yeah, like I understand that he's a kid and just done his GCSEs and that and you've got to protect him and you deserve you he deserves to be protected and it's the manager's responsibility to to nurture him because if he is nurtured well, he will be a starlet for Arsenal for the next two decades. >> Mhm. >> But I don't have that responsibility. I just want to see him play football. >> [laughter] >> Just chuck him in. >> Yeah, good thing you're not in charge of those decisions. >> yeah, yeah, just chuck him in. Get him I'd have taken him to the World Cup. >> Oh, as a wild card, yeah, just someone who can who can give you something a little bit different. He's he's exceptional. Um, in terms of uh the game then, um how do you see this one going? Um, I I I you think Arsenal will get the job done? >> I Yeah, I I don't It's a bad bad opposition for Forest. This isn't what Forest need. Forest Forest need one of those tapping fixtures because like the Coventry result was bad, then they've then they've uh you know, Glasner's lost to his former team in Palace. That was a bit of a whooping as well, despite the fact that on paper the game was close. I don't know. I I I think Arsenal are just going to be too strong.
