"HE WILL DELIVER SUCCESS!" Simon Jordan BELIEVES Antonio Conte can SUCCEED at Man United!
Simon Jordan says Conte can deliver success at Man United if fully backed, as fans debate Conte, Martinez and Rashford
The show discusses reports that Antonio Conte's representatives have contacted Man United and whether he could succeed there. Simon Jordan argues Conte is a winning manager but needs full backing; United fans disagree over whether the move is realistic and over Martinez and Rashford.
- Conte will deliver success for Man United if the club consistently gives him exactly what he wants, and United must match rivals in recruitment and wages or not hire him — Conte is a proven winning manager, though he demands a lot and brings extra nonsense; United cannot expect him to compete with top managers without equal resources.
- Conte cannot change United's squad immediately, but he can change the dressing room's attitude, discipline and responsibility, move out dead wood and start building for a quicker future — He cannot alter the personnel right now, but he can get players focused on their jobs rather than on the board.
- Conte is the scale of figure Man United need, and a Man United manager must be bigger than the dressing room — United need a dominant personality who can control the dressing room.
- Martinez is now doing what Conte did at Tottenham, deflecting blame away from himself by using fans' anger at the owners — Players know fans dislike the owners and feel disconnected from the ownership model, so a player speaks out when criticism turns on the players.
- Conte going to Man United is fantasy and will never happen — Ratcliffe and the Glazers will not appoint an anti-establishment manager like Conte; they lack the money, will and know-how to let him control players and play 3-4-3.
- Conte is a maverick rather than anti-establishment, and United may have the ability to bring him in — Previous claims about how little money Man United had were not accurate; Conte simply wants what he wants when he wants it.
- If Man United and the Glazers do not act on the manager and football operation, the decline will deepen and they will soon become the Man United of the 70s — They need a winning team and have missed opportunities; continuing as they are will make things harder.
- Martinez deserves a statue outside Old Trafford and is the only one standing up to the management; senior players like Shaw and Maguire lack backbone, and the board and Jason Wilcox are not backing Carrick or the players — Martinez's comments were not premeditated but came from passion for the game and United; he backed Carrick and the players, while Wilcox lacks Man United DNA and failed at Man City.
- Martinez is completely out of order and should not be praised or given a statue — Last season he started only 18 games and United lost nine of them; this season he was culpable for the Tottenham goal and has been poor since the start.
- United's problems are about players not doing the basics, and Marcus Rashford is dragging them down — Despite the money spent, players must do their jobs on the pitch; Rashford does not press or make runs, is not dynamic enough and shuts down one side of the pitch.

Talkport understands representatives working on behalf of Antonio Conte have contacted United to say he'd be open to the job if it became available. Antonio Conte to the rescue. No disrespect to Michael Carrick. Is that the answer? I think if you give Conte um what he wants and deliver that on a regular basis then he will deliver success for you. Um my hold on as I >> now the consequence the consequence of that >> this is Antonio Conte you're talking about >> the consequence of that is is you have to give him precisely what he wants endlessly and probably have to deal with some other nonsense that you won't particularly appreciate. Depends how much you want a winning football club. Kanti is no doubt a winning manager. I didn't like his behavior at Tottenham. I thought it was completely and utterly out of order. That doesn't mean I have to carry that verdict on with me forever. Do I think he's a good manager? Of course he's a good manager. You were with him. If I was in a position to own a football club that could give him everything he wants. Yeah. But if I wasn't in a position to do that and I could only I could only give him what I was prepared to give him and he understood that when he came in but that it didn't prove to be enough for him, then I would have a problem. If you bring an Antonio Conte, >> what would you be prepared to concede to? >> Well, I would >> in terms of Kante's demands >> well to match the opportunities of the competition that he's going up against to give him the outcomes. If Manchester United want to eclipse whoever's in the box seat, you've got to go toe-to-toe with them on the ability to be able to recruit the best players, pay the best wages, and to achieve the outcomes. Otherwise, you can't give a man, you can't give a one-legged man no opportunity to win a race by putting him against people that got 100 meters in 10 seconds, can you? You've got to give people the right opportunities. So, if you give if you want the best manager in to go against the best managers, then give him the tools or don't take him in. Don't bring him in. Now, I'm not saying that Conti was not given tools at Tottenham. He knew what he was getting into. So I think he didn't have the right to do what he did. I don't think there was any reneging on promises. >> Sure. Just in the passing, we're in October. I mean, if it was to go pair shape for Michael this weekend or next week and they bring in Kante, he can't do anything to change that squad of players that he's got. Not at this precise. >> No, no, he can't. But he can he can change the attitude of the dressing room. He can get people uh certainly focusing much more on their responsibilities rather than worrying about what people up there are doing. All right. getting people to do their jobs properly, getting the discipline right, getting the attitude right, start to move out the dead wood, start to build for a better, quicker future. >> I think Conti would be the scale of person for Manchester United. I think there's always got to be an I've always felt that a Manchester United manager's got to be bigger than the dressing room. >> Right now, it's not difficult in this. >> You've ripped him to shreds in recent weeks, >> but for for the context of what he did at Tottenham Hotspur, yeah, but it doesn't mean I don't think he's a good manager. I disliked intensely what he did because I saw exactly what it was. I hate it. They get away with it. I dislike it intensely. They get away with it being able to utilize a a vogue and a belief system and steer into it. Martinez is doing the same. They know that the fans don't like the owners. They know that the fans are disenfranchised from the ownership model. So, they then deflect from themselves because the moment, it's funny, isn't it? The moment the fans are going against the players, out comes a player. Not not when whenever the owners were getting brick bats or when the managers getting brick bats, but going to the point about about a bigger dressing room. Carrick is a nice fellow. I mean, we're seeing stuff. I mean, they were outraged apparently that I'd said in the past that Carrick didn't want to be a manager. Didn't I didn't feel that that I'd heard it from reliable sources. He want to be a manager. They got very nasty fed up with it. Carrick's people. But now we're hearing from people that are very close to Carrick that he didn't actually want that. >> What United fans think this morning, Jim has been waiting patiently, a big United fan. Jim, good morning to you. What do you think of that latest bit of news that we understand Kante's people have contacted United to say he'd be open to the job if it became available. What what's your thought on that, Jim? >> Yeah, thanks very much, Jim and Simon. A great show and thank you for having me on. Uh long-standing supporter of Manchester United, well over 60 years. The current uh topic regarding Conte, I I I just think is is fantasy. It's never going to happen. You have absolutely no chance in in this world that uh King Ratcliffe and his merry men along with the Glazers will actually put somebody in as a manager like Conte who is absolutely anti-establishment. They haven't got the money, they haven't got the will, and they haven't got the Nouse to put somebody like that in to control the players and let alone let alone play a 343. It's just not going to happen. What do you think of that? Um, I concur to a point about the financial landscape because it wasn't so long ago that Jim was telling us a bunch of whoppers about how much money Man United didn't have, you know, and we all found that out to be not quite as Jim represented it. I'm not sure I agree with the notion that they won't have the chops to bring somebody in that's anti what you consider to be anti-establishment. I mean, he's a maverick. I'm not sure he's anti-establishment. I'm think what he wants when he wants it. >> And if you bring a manager in like that, then you give it to him or you don't. Yeah. Now, if Man United uh and the Glazers don't believe that the decline is becoming deeper and deeper now really from the opportunities that have existed that from the carryover and the ability to be the world's greatest cash machine as the book said, it is becoming hard and harder for them. They need a winning team. They need a team that's near to winning things and they're going to have to do something about the manager and the football operation. Otherwise, they're not going to be able they're going to be the Man United of the 70s soon. >> So, so Jim on more specifically on Martinez's comments, where do you stand now the dust is settled? 100% behind Martinez and quite honestly I put a statue of him outside of Old Trafford. He's the only person that stood up against these against this management team. I wish the others like um uh the senior members Shaw Magguire the rest of them will come out but they've got no backbone. Martin has come out. This wasn't premeditated. He came out because he was passionate about the game, passionate about United. He backed Carrick. He backed the the players. What who's not backing them is this board Jason Wilcox. Do you think he's got DNA of Manchester United? Absolutely not. A failed player and a failed uh manager at or or coach at Man City. The same with Barada. Absolutely no chance. And then uh on the back of that, the Glazes all they do is just basically take dividends when they can. And we we're paying over a over 50 60 million pound a month or maybe anom just to to service the debt. Okay. Absolutely no charge. >> Jim, thanks for your call. Thanks for the points you've made. Amit is a big United fan. Take us up to the 11:00 break. Amit, good morning to you. What do you what what do you think about A Conte and his people reportedly getting in touch and B Martinez and those comments now the dust is settled. >> Yeah, morning guys. Great show. If I tackle it in B first, right? So yeah, >> I'm I'm a huge United fan and I disagree with all of this. Put the statue outside. I think he's absolutely out of order here. M >> um to be able to to say that like like the facts let's just let's just deal with facts rather than emotions right the facts are last year he started 18 games only and of the 18 games Martinez died we we lost nine of them this year he was he was he was he was a he he was the the sole person who sort of was culpable for the the Tottenham goal and he was horrendous from the start of this season. So I'm say thinking it's all in United have just it's so easy to blame other people the managers then the the owners the board everyone will take responsibility but look how much money we've spent over the last however many years it's down to the breadand butter basics of doing your job on the football pitch I I did a I do player cam on Marcus Rashford and the difference between last year's form and this year's form is basically because of the change in personnel Marcus Rashford is dragging us down a hole so fast you would not believe cuz he's just faking it on the pitch. He doesn't press. He doesn't make runs. He's not dynamic enough. He's not making his other peers think, "All right, let me look for him. He's going to go in behind." He's not dynamic enough for us. And he's literally one side of the pitch is absolutely shut down. So, we're basically playing on the opposite side only and how we're going to how we're going to score any goals as a result. >> Okay, listen. Many points there, Amit. Thanks. Uh >> it's interesting. The caller previously talked about there's no statue. There's no Yeah, but he also talked about there's no parallel universe where Kanti would go into Manchester United. Well, weren't they saying the same thing about Alonzo going to Chelsea? >> Yeah.
