"TITLES WILL BE STRIPPED!" Rory Jennings & Liverpool Fan CLASH over Man City's POTENTIAL Punishments
Liverpool vs Man City preview amid punishment fallout and title-stripping debate
The show discusses the fallout from the independent panel finding Manchester City guilty and previews City's trip to Liverpool. Guests and callers clash over who is under more pressure, whether titles should be stripped, and how the off-field noise could affect the match and players.
- Liverpool are also under huge pressure and almost have to win for the good of football; the Anfield crowd must make a statement with its banners and noise. — It is the first time in a long while that Liverpool simply have to win, with the world watching how they respond to City, and the big-match Anfield atmosphere will magnify that pressure.
- Liverpool were the club damaged most by City; without City's breaches, Klopp's side would have reached 100 points and gone unbeaten. — That would have made them both Centurions and Invincibles, so Klopp's single league title badly understates what that team would have achieved.
- The damage from City's breaches goes beyond Liverpool and affects the wider football ecosystem; Bolton are an example. — A Bolton fan's argument is that they were relegated after losing two games to City and have never come back, so the impact should not be framed only as Liverpool losing titles.
- Manchester City are a better side than Liverpool and can win at Anfield; this will be a huge test for Liverpool's new signings and midfield. — Liverpool have had a kind fixture list, while City are five from five and stronger on paper, so this is the real acid test.
- City being found guilty is a shock; he even suspects the Premier League may not really want to win the case. — The noise from City was that they would be cleared, and a guilty verdict creates major problems for the Premier League itself, so City escaping had seemed more likely.
- Florian Wirtz is a flop and not a Premier League player; he should not be lumped in with Bradley Barcola. — Wirtz has had enough chances and looks too lightweight, while Barcola has only just arrived, is still adapting, and can become an elite Liverpool player.
- City will go to Anfield and beat Liverpool; Elliot Anderson gives their midfield bite and fills the Fernandinho role. — He calls Anderson a class act and workhorse, and argues City's net spend has not been the highest, so their success cannot be reduced to financial advantage.
- City's titles and cups should be stripped and the league should be reallocated based on performance and the money attached to each position, rather than simply voiding seasons. — Voiding would erase the efforts of the other 19 teams; other sports have precedent, and clubs will sue for lost prize money and revenue.
- City players may shrink under the off-field pressure at Anfield, and Liverpool will rise to the occasion as they have in big games before. — He doubts the siege-mentality idea works in such an abnormal situation and thinks some players and agents will look for January exits.
- Elliot Anderson would have been a phenomenal signing for Liverpool; his decision to choose City only makes sense if he was assured they would not be found guilty. — Anderson reportedly had his pick of clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, so joining a club under charges strongly suggests he received reassurances.

And finally, Ady, we can talk about football again. We've spent so long, haven't we, talking about the finances, talking about the implications of of the of almost the geopolitical situation between the UK and the UAE, talking about Andy Burnham's proximity to Shake Mansaw, talking about all of this. And suddenly today, >> it's phenomenal because we can just focus on the football. >> Good old football. Can we? >> Yeah, we can. I think Listen, listen. >> Can we? >> It's all on the backdrop. We know what Manchester City have done. We know what they've been found guilty of. know where we are with this situation, but we are also we are also now on the precipice just just you know what few hours away from one of the greatest weekends of Premier League football like we have some iconic games some historic games and this game at Anfield >> this game at Anfield is going to be one of the most historic season defining pivotal moments that the Premier League has ever had I've been to Anfield many times but I've be also been there when it is just bouncing unstoppable able uncontrollable. Some of the best atmospheres I've ever been in have been in that stadium. When they knocked us out the Champions League, it's incomparable, right? It's incomparable. Look, there is a problem in football at the moment. Loads of stadiums over sanitized and like there is >> Anfield isn't that. >> I think every stadium can be, right? But when Anfield goes, it goes. Trust me, I've seen it when they're doing that Torres song and they're all bouncing to to the Torres song. It's it's unstoppable and almost unrivaled in the country. It's going to be that. It's going to be that. I >> I think it needs to be on Sunday to beat this man seat side. We're going to go back that game at Anfield on Sunday. Uh build a Super Sunday and it really is super Sunday. Two unbeaten teams as well by the way. Obviously look Man City have started a lot better than Liverpool who have only played sort of bottom half teams. Who's the pressure on the most in that game? >> The pressure. >> Yeah. Considering that I know we don't want to talk about the City Charger, but City obviously approach it with a lot of baggage. >> Yeah. >> Who's the pressure on them? >> Interestingly, when you asked me that question, I just felt like the answer was obviously Manchester City, but now you've made me think about it. I feel like there's an awful lot of pressure on Liverpool as well because perhaps for the first time in a long time Liverpool have to win. It's almost for the good of football, Liverpool have to win the game. So there's a huge pressure on them. I think there's I think there's also a lot of pressure on the Anfield Anfield faithful because I've been saying this for a long time. There isn't a better stadium for Manchester City with everything that's happened for them to go to. Liverpool have a great tradition of of brilliant songs, long songs, verse after verse, chorus after chorus that goes on and on and they really make their point. They make great banners. So the pressure is on Liverpool, I guess, because the rest of the world are looking at the statement that they're going to make. What are the cop going to do? What are they going to see? What banners are going to be out? So I guess there's pressure on both. But but realistically, >> realistically, the pressure is on City because even if say City beat Liverpool 5-0, >> what does it mean? >> Will all just go well? >> Yeah. >> Well, obviously. >> Well, obviously. Of course you did. Of course you did. >> Yeah. So So yeah, I think the there's probably more pressure on Man City. >> Yeah. I I Andonia Areola I think is going to prove to be a good manager for Liverpool. I like him a lot. Can you imagine if it was Klopp on the touch line? >> I don't look at Andonia as someone that's going to g up the crowd. You know, Klopp used to always turn around and the crowd needs to go. >> They won't need it though. >> They No. No. Liverpool fans in this game. I don't think Liverpool fans generally need it anyway. They certainly won't need it in this game. No. No. Liverpool Liverpool fans are going to be so up for it. Anfield is going to be a cauldron. It's going to be one of those games that will go down in history. People will think about this game for an eternity cuz immediately when you think about the rivalry between these two, if Manchester City didn't do what they did, Steven Gerard has won a league title. >> Yeah. >> You know that Jurgen Klopp, >> there's almost this thought that Sorry to cut across you. There's almost this thought that and look, it affected Chelsea, it affected United, everyone would get trophies, right? But there's almost this thought that it affected Liverpool the most. >> It did. >> Yeah, >> it did. Yeah. >> Is that that's why I I think it's almost non-negotiable. What Jurgen Klopp's team would have done is they would have got 100 points. They would have gone unbeaten. They would have gone invincible. So you know the way that Arsenal parade their invincible trophy is yours gold though all that. >> Yeah. >> They can't do that anymore. >> They can't do that anymore because Liverpool did it. >> Liverpool did it by acrewing more points because Liverpool would have got 100 points. So you know the way Man City fans talk about the Centurions. >> Liverpool would have done that. Not only would they have been Centurions but they would have been invincible in the same season. >> Crazy, isn't it? And Jurgen Klopp's Jurgen Klopp's record here, if you actually think about it, we know because we lived it. We know his contribution to football. We know what he did. We know what he achieved. We know the way that he built up that Liverpool team. But, you know, if you didn't live it and in in 15 20 years when people look back, you only really know the highlights. Like when I look back on on Liverpool's history, I know what Paisley did, but I only know the highlights. I know the I know the trophies. With Klopp, when people look back in time, They only know the trophies and there's only one league title which doesn't really do justice. >> No, it it doesn't tell the story. You're right because when there are I'll always have the debate look so Alex I know Pep's now got an asterisk but it would been so Alex Pep Mourinho. >> Yeah. >> And then I've always said okay put Klopp in there >> club. >> Yeah. But then people as you say in 20 years time they're going to say one second Angelotti Conte they also won the >> whereas whereas if he had won a league title with record points against Guardiola as well going up against >> suddenly suddenly he is in contention for second spot after Sir Alex Ferguson. >> So yeah I think it's fair to say that Liverpool were damaged the most by city. >> Yeah >> I think it's I think there's a lot of teams that you can you know I did a show I think it was very interesting. I did a show with you know Jay Motty from from Paddock I did a show with him and he told a great story. I think everybody goes ice Liverpool. Liverpool are the victim of this. And then other people would go, "Oh, maybe, you know, maybe Arsenal are, maybe whoever are." James Mosy told the story about talking to a Bolton Wanders fan. And I thought this was so interesting because we always see it as being clubs like Liverpool that were affected, clubs like Chelsea that were affected, but actually he told a story of a Bolton Wonders fan. Bolton went down because they lost two games to Manchester City. They never been back up. So this is actually a story that affects football. You got Bolton Wonders fans. They haven't been in the Premier League since. No. >> And they're holding Manchester City responsible. Sunderland, their fans believe that they should have won a trophy. Watford, they fans believe that they should have won a Stoke, their fans. >> See, I said I didn't want to do this. I want to talk Liverpool. I do as well down this rabbit. >> No, no. Let's focus on the game. Let's f Let's focus on the game because it is going to be a pulsating. >> It's a shame, isn't it, that is started the season well. Four goals, right? Gakpo started the season well as well off the right, Barca off the left. And I think he's already got his best team in his head now. That is Gakapo off the right, Barcode off the left, Isach through the middle. Two of those players are out. >> Yeah. No, it's bad news. >> Massive, massive. >> It's bad news. And And do you know what else is very interesting? Like who's going to turn up? What Manchester City are going to turn up? What are they about? Like are Manchester City going to be the kind of team that almost use this noise to be to be a violent Yeah. a violent monster. >> They've got the players that will do that. Well, you know, when I look at players like Harland, Turkey, I think he's got the arrogance of >> Enzo Enzo Fernandez, Enzo Fand% >> Elliot Anderson maybe. >> Yeah, >> maybe. But do you know players that will dip a bit? >> I'm not sure if Enzo Moresca is about this life >> because what they need to be, they're the villains now >> and they [snorts] need to make it us versus the world, backs against the wall, Jose Mourinho style. >> I don't know if Enzo Moresca is that. They are going to be booed. They are going to be jered. They are the enemy. It's probably the only time I I I like Man City winning leagues. If Chelsea don't win the league, I want Man City to win it because don't really I don't really rate them as a side. I don't really rate them as a rival. >> This is probably the only time I've ever like the idea of Liverpool beating them. >> And I kind of think that the correct, the fair, the just outcome of that game is that Liverpool win the game. And that's why the pressure is on them. And by the way, as much as [clears throat] obviously this has all come, you know, around the time where, you know, Man City are going through issues, if you're Andonia or Raiola, I mean, you started well, the team haven't played that well, but for some reason, Liverpool unbeaten and you've got to take it. Everyone you've played so far bar Atletico Madrid have been a bottom half team. But the it's been very kind for Liverpool. It's been very kind. Not Forest Switch. It's been very kind. Newcastle way was a bit challeng. >> Yeah, this this is it. This is the one you're playing top of the table. Five from five, Man City. >> But now, now, do you know how I said we're going to find out who Man City are? Are Man City about this? Are they going to be villains? Are they going to actually do the biggest villain move? Pull the biggest villain move off and win the league the year that this is announced. Are they going to win the European Cup? They've already got their issues, haven't they, with uh with UEFA. Are they going to win the European Cup? Can they become like the absolute villain? and we'll find out who they are, but we're also going to find out who Liverpool are. Are Liverpool like, you know, if this was Klopp's Liverpool team, in my head, they just win the game. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I'm not 100% sure. In fact, who do you think wins a game? >> Draw. >> You know, I was so confident you I actually think City can beat you. They're they're a better side than [laughter] us. Let's Let's have it straight. They're a better side than us. This will be a big big test for Jeremy Jac who started so well >> for Ara who's come in and almost been that the new cult hero. He's been really well. Kirz >> against Semeno cuz Semeno is now off the right. This is a tough one. And then you look at their midfield. >> Their midfield is Churkey Elliot Anderson and Enzo. >> Whoever it is. Yeah. Batti. >> Buy off the bench. They've got a really strong side. They're a good [clears throat] side, but equally you've you've been up against good sides. You've been up against better sides and beaten them. So you you now need to elevate your game. And I would also say that like without speaking in cliches, >> the Anfield factor here >> massive. >> Like I know that an and atmospheres in in in the Premier League are worryingly dipping. I know that there is a lack of parters and passionate support in stands and there is a lack of volume but not on Sunday. >> Yeah, there will be smoke bombs. There will be everything. The noise will just be ridiculous. It will be it will be an old-fashioned it will be it will be like going to Anfield at any point between 2010 and 1990. I imagine it will be like really powerful, really really really passionate and I can't wait. It's very very rare that I look forward to a game that doesn't involve a team that I support as much as I'm looking forward to this game. >> Sky Sports all over this. >> Yeah, this is this is the very definition of a super. You can't It's actually one of those fixes, isn't it? Where you can't not watch it and consider yourself a football fan. Yeah, like whoever you support, >> you got to watch that game. >> Yeah. And I think that that I think that you'd almost extend that courtesy. Do you know back in the day when when uh Liverpool uh sorry, when Real Madrid and Barcelona had Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo? You couldn't not watch the classicalico. You had to. You had to watch it. >> My thinking is, let's just play a quick game. Who's going to be in the Super Sunday lineup? In terms of the commentary, sorry, in terms of the pundits, it's got to be Carrager. >> Yeah. Car Carra's Carra's tapping. He's too good at this. He car has >> Neville's going to be in it. Yeah, Gary Neville again has to be there. Who's the city? Who's the city? >> Is it Micah? I know. M Riches isn't. >> Who do you get? Who do you get then? >> Joe hot. >> Yeah. >> Is he city enough? >> He's No, you know, I don't think Joe I think Joe This is the point. I think he'll be scared to go on there. >> Someone needs >> I think Carrager and Neville ask him questions that will make him feel very uncomfortable cuz he he is that era, isn't he? >> Who do you want it to be? You know, if you could if it could be someone, who is the perfect representation of this? Who do we want? So Jamie Carrian is the Liverpool is a Liverpool voice here. Who is the Manchester City voice that would be just like compelling TV view? >> Pep Guardiola. [laughter] >> I guarantee it won't be him. >> It won't be him. >> So the independent panel ruling on Manchester City's 115 charges have found [music] the club guilty on all but one. >> I think it could be the one of the biggest shambles in Premier League history. In the event that they're uh [music] found guilty of everything and the most serious charges, uh it's going to [music] be very very hard to gauge just how severe the approach is going to be in [music] sanction. Anything is possible. >> What punishment is enough for you? >> League two and a a transfer ban for like 5 years, 6 years. >> Manchester City won seven Premier League titles in this in this era. We stripped them of every single title. To be honest, you when we knew this was coming, >> I was talking to a few City supporters, we were just wanted to get the four in a row. Uh cuz [music] it hadn't been done before. >> And we wanted to get as much trophies in in that short period of time. So yeah, I I see there's a punishment coming down the line. I don't know how long it is away. >> How do you view those trophies now though, Callum? Like you and your mates, how do you view them now? Do you view them as we cheated? >> No. If somebody cheats, he needs to get punished. How interesting that package listening to that last uh call out. We knew it was coming. We just wanted to get four in a row. We knew it was coming. Just wanted to get four. >> That's not the vibe. That's not the vibe that I've heard from Man City fans. I think a lot of them thought that they were going to get or they were going to be found innocent. The vast majority that I spoke to believed that they were >> and I'm shocked. >> Are you not shocked, by the way? I'm shocked that they have been found. >> The noise coming out of City. The noise coming out of City was that they weren't going to be found guilty. I also thought that it was weird because the Premier League took the case. The Premier League brought the case >> and yet I thought the Premier League want to lose the case. The Premier League don't want to win. It makes their life very difficult if they win. So, no, I'm I am shocked. >> It's very very difficult. Uh we are going to jump to the phone lines in a minute. Maybe you can give us a call. Big game on Super Sunday. Man City going to Liverpool to take on an unbeaten Liverpool side under Andoni. Massive game at Anfield on Sunday. It's always been big games between these two, but obviously considering what's happened in the last few weeks, this one has got a lot bigger. Uh both teams unbeaten, but Liverpool do go into this game with a couple of big injuries as well. Alexander Isach out four goals this season. Cody Gako has been really good linked with Man City in the summer out as well. Let's go to Tommy, the Liverpool fan who's going to the game on Sunday. Tommy, just on those two injuries first, massive blow, isn't it? I mean, with those two players, you'd have fancied Liverpool. Without those two, it's going to be difficult. Yeah, you're right, boys. Always a good show as always. Enjoying it. Um, yeah, it's it's disappointing. Um, as we know, I think Jack Po's got a lot of abuse last year from a lot of Liverpool fans to be honest. I think a lot of us kind of wanted him out, but he's proved himself out this year, both on the the international level and obviously with us. He's the same. I felt bad for him last year um the way things went, but this year he's, you know, he's scoring goals, seems to be getting back to it. So of course it's a blow. But I think you mentioned there about the atmosphere. I mean obviously I'm lucky that I can go the games quite a lot and a lot of people can criticize are the atmosphere a myth and so on. But the big games, Champions League nights, the city games, they're always up for it and especially with everything going on. I think it's going to be electric on Sunday to be honest. >> Yeah, it's a massive game for Andoni, isn't it? As well. I mean look, Liverpool have been I think quite fortunate the way the fixture list has worked out. We played all bottom half teams really teams I don't Newcastle have surprised us a bit I think where they've started but the others you would expect to have beaten this is it now this is the acid test you're playing top of the table Man City and regardless of what they're going through the are some of the best players in the world I mean Harland probably the best number nine I think's fantastic Turkey is really good it needs to be a good atmosphere to make sure we can get we can rumble these lot >> absolutely but I'm I'm I'm fairly sure there's no doubt that it will be as I said it usually usually is anyway. I can remember what it's been like the last few years anyway. Um but the added like you were saying there arguably you know we should have had another two league titles. I'm not one of those you know give us a title. I'm not bothered about that because we know what Klo did for us. we know how he played but I think as you said there it's a test for I think I'm I was one of those in all honesty although I we all know slot unfortunately the football wasn't good enough but I was one of those I probably would have kept him into this season to be honest with you which a lot of people might said is a bit stupid but I felt a bit bad for him I think he had to go through quite a lot as well um but Areola we're still unbeaten you can stay going into the internationals into now but if we do win on Sunday I think that's a big confidence boost I just like to see the likes of Verts. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> You know, kind of step up in this game. For me, sadly, that's the one at the moment that we're all looking at kind of we keep saying we're waiting for him to adjust
