"HAVE TO GET BETTER!" Jeff Stelling claims Arsenal LACK Creativity after 'BORING' win vs Forest!
talkSPORT discuss Arsenal's dull win over Forest and lack of creativity, plus Eze's situation and Brighton's rout of Crystal Palace
The show focuses on Arsenal's unconvincing win over Nottingham Forest, questioning their creativity while arguing squad depth and results matter more. It then covers Eberechi Eze's role at Arsenal, a caller's criticism of Arsenal's title credentials, and Brighton's big win over Crystal Palace. The conclusion is that Arsenal still need to improve but winning keeps the doubters quiet; Brighton look like Champions League contenders, while Palace are worrying.
- Arsenal lacked creativity and were boring in the win over Nottingham Forest, with the Daily Mail calling them "unwatchables." — They created worryingly little and scored with their first shot on target, which was a big deflection.
- Arsenal's squad depth and substitutions were the key to winning, and the result is what matters most. — The subs changed the game and Forest could not match them; Forest played reasonably well and kept Arsenal at bay, but Arsenal got the three points.
- Arsenal have to get better, because they will not win games playing like that. — Their performances have been slow to come this season even if results have been decent, and the display needs to improve.
- Arsenal will get better; it has been a slow start on performances but not on results, and they are still chasing Manchester City. — They remain right behind Manchester City, so they have not fallen behind in results, and the performances should improve.
- Noni Madueke's half-time impact was crucial, and players must accept and own whatever role they are given on the day. — The team has played 11 official games and won 10, and the players are ready whether starting, playing 45 minutes or only 10; they still want more.
- Eze has not consistently done enough to nail down a place in Arsenal's team, but Arsenal would not want him to leave. — When he gets his chance he must play well enough to make the manager unable to leave him out, and he has not done that consistently; he is a different type from Madueke and Saka and may be better as a No.10; Arsenal have a strong squad and he will play a part. Eze is also no longer the player he was at Palace, which may be down to his role.
- Arsenal are masters of 1-0 but not one of the best Premier League champions, and you could name 20 better title-winning teams. — They are excellent at grinding out 1-0 wins, but many little things go unnoticed: they shout for offside or a foul every time, go down when touched, and although they are very good at it, their title-winning quality and watchability are not the best.
- Losing this derby is a bad result for Crystal Palace and the manager now faces a big week; Brighton, meanwhile, go from strength to strength. — After a derby defeat, the Palace manager has an away game on Thursday and then another big match, so it is a key week for him.
- Brighton are Champions League contenders, but the European campaign and a run of away games could affect their consistency. — They have five away games in a row coming up, and European travel and rotation may take a toll; the away game at Liverpool this weekend will be a good test of their credentials.
- Crystal Palace's performance was worrying, with players looking sorry for themselves and walking too much, and they could be dragged into a relegation battle. — After about 15 minutes the host did not like their performance, especially at 3-0 down to their rivals; they are low on points and with other teams changing managers and selling players, the Premier League could be a mixed bag.

Talking about Sajah didn't create too many chances. That brings us to Arsenal who are being described in certainly the Daily Mail this morning as not the invincibles but the unwatchables. And they won the game and Arsenal fans will say that's all that mattered at your own club forest of course. They will say that's all that mattered but you know they created for a side of their corner. They created worryingly little. Yeah the last couple of games I've seen Arsenal and I covered one of their games can't remember which one it was at the Emirates not long ago. It's Leeds and what they do, they've got the ability to bring players on that change the game. That's the power of their squad at the moment you know they've done exactly that. Made substitutions, improved the side, the opposition can't make the same substitutions as Arsenal. Forest are unfortunate, I thought they played reasonably well, kept Arsenal at bay so you've got to give them some form of credit. But the bottom line is, I totally agree with the statement, it's all about winning, it was all about getting three points up there and listen we criticised, well when I say we I didn't but people criticised Arsenal for scoring set plays last year, they've not done that this year so far and listen as long as they keep ticking the points over they won't worry about that. They have to get better though don't they because they won't win games playing like that. No, they will get better I think. As I say they've had a slow burner to the season maybe on performances but not on results because they're still chasing down Manchester City at this moment in time. Scored with their first shot on target is a big deflection obviously and as you mentioned really Stu after the game Michael Arteta praised the impact of his half-time sub Nonny Maduweke. It's crucial but that's a mindset that's really owning the role that you are giving on the day and maybe it's to start and play 45 minutes maybe it's to come after 45 maybe it's to play 10 minutes or the last two or 60 i don't know but the players are really really at it and and that's that's a massive quality that we have at the moment that we really need to to sustain it if we want every three days have the opportunity to win because i think we play 11 official games now win 10 and we still want more and we're gonna still learn a lot so that's the level yeah you look at that bench i mean and it's just glittering isn't but of course madi wait you came on for eberiche ese who cut a pretty forlorn figure in the second half when you saw the shots of him having been substituted i just wonder if he's regretting his choice of moving into Arsenal? Listen, when he went there he was full of the joys of spring wasn't he? You know what I mean? It was a great move for him and he was very excited about it. I always think the ball's in the players' call, he's got to make sure he does well enough when he gets his opportunity in Arsenal's team that he keeps in the team. He plays well enough to say to the manager, look, you can't leave me out of the side at the moment at this moment in time he's not done that consistently Jeff but what I would say is he is a different type of player to what they've got he's different to Madawake he's different to Saka you can play him as another 10 where I think he might want to play more readily than he does out on the flanks to be more involved but listen I don't think there's talk about I heard in commentary people talking about you know Should he move on? Should he go somewhere else? I think Arsenal wouldn't want him to move on because they've got such a good squad at this moment in time and he'll play his part over the season. I just think from his point of view, it's crying shame, I think, because he's one of my favourite players, he's got so much ability and yeah I know Arsenal will want to keep him, don't think there's any question about that but from his point of view he wants to be playing and let's be honest he's gone back over hasn't he? He's not the player now that he was when he was at Palace, whether that's the role that he's been played in. I think he was the main man at Palace there's no doubt about that and I would say as well you know you go to the bigger so-called bigger clubs and all of a sudden there's this pool of players you know last season I watched Muscira come in and play really really well for Arsenal and he can't even get on the pitch let alone the substitute appearance you know and you think well there's such a top quality player there another weekend goes by that you don't kick a ball with such you know and it you know you want to go out of the big clubs you want to win trophies but I tell you what the implications of that on occasion are you don't play any football and that must be hard to take I mean I come from an era where you played and it was a front to yourself if you get left out the team but that seems to be slightly different now. Now on the final word phone in Jack who was nodding on Forrest's fan was refusing to give Arsenal very much credit. They're the champions so I will put out there you can't say that they aren't of a team because they are but I mean how they're the champions? I just don't know. They are the masters of 1-0 again, they do it, they're fantastic at it but the amount of things that go unnoticed that they do and then they shout every single time, they shout for an offside, they shout for a foul, they get touched, they fall over and fair play to them, they're very very good at it but I honestly think of all the champions of the Premier League, they're not one of the best by a long shot you could easily name probably 20 teams that were champions that were better. Well not in the Premier League who couldn't because there haven't been 20 winners of the Premier League have. Arsenal fans give us a call can you believe that people are calling you bad champions? Hasn't been enough of an attacking evolution from last season's style is this just a blip you had the Brighton defeat obviously Gunners next game is a cracker isn't it at Bayern Munich eight o'clock kick off live on Talk Sport I mentioned Brighton beating Arsenal wow Wow. 3-0 up yesterday against Crystal Palace after 10 minutes. Crystal Palace, their arch rivals, eventually running out 5-0 winners. The former Palace boss, Alan Pardew, broke down the difference between the two sides. It's a tough afternoon to lose any Derby game. That is a Derby, although geographically it probably isn't but that is a really poor result for the manager and he's got a tough game, he's away Thursday and then another big game it's a big week for the manager at Crystal Palace but Brighton go from strength to strength Herzla, am I saying that correct? Hodzala. Hodzala, manager of the month for September, gross player of the month, dunk goal of the month for September, and here they are in October still ripping it up. Blimey. I heard Pascal Gross, you in a TV interview a few weeks ago, three or four weeks ago now and he was asked whether they were title contenters and he laughed out loud. Of course not. So we're going to get two games a week. We can't possibly cope with all of that. So I won't ask that. Stuart, but are they Champions League contenders? Oh, without a doubt. I looked at their fixtures coming up, Jeff, coming in to next month. They got five away games in a row which will take its toll potentially. It's the European campaign that concerns me about whether they can have a level of consistency and I'm sure at Brighton they've looked at that, they analyse everything about how you best maximise your squad over that period of time with a travel in Europe and that type of thing. But as I say they've got some tough games, I think they're at Liverpool this weekend as well in the league so that'll be a great indicator of their credentials. But I tell you what, they're so well run, they're playing so well. We were fortunate at TalkSport to have Herzler come in and do one of the games at the World Cup. And it was interesting, I talked to him before we went on air. And I was really impressed. I said, why have you sort of, why have you wanted to come and do the game with us today, you know, and be part of our team he said you know why I've done it he said we think it's going to be better for me if I do this that will make my decision making better when I'm addressing the players and I thought how open-minded is that you know what i mean to use your summer to hone your skills and your decision making instantly because when you're on air you've got to instantly respond to anything and uh i was really impressed by that but that's as Brighton as a football club isn't it you know what I mean so impressive I mean one of the interesting things for me is they did that without Matoma and Minte and then he left Hinshelwood and Rutter or Malkuja on the bench so suggests that It may be they do have the squad. I was really worried for Palace, Stu. I wrote down after sort of 15 minutes, I don't like this Palace performance. They look sorry for themselves. Their heads were down. A lot of the players were walking. a lot not to like about that performance. Yeah, as I say, if you're 3-0 down, your rivals, it is not a good sign. The Palace fans won't be happy with that. They're on seven points at the moment, I'm looking. They're outside the relegation zone, but there's a few teams that have changed their managers, sold a lot of players that you think this could be nervous times, you know? And I think it's going to be a real mixed bag the Premier League this year is panning out that way and Palace could be in the thick of things at the wrong end of the division Yeah it's looking that way and Piazzaj under pressure really early on in the season Mark their negative tactics, not Arsenal. some breathtaking footballer times from Manchester City Did you have a good weekend? United and Michael Carrick at Ellen Road yesterday. That's next.
