Cascarino backs Chelsea's firepower but the defence remains the concern

The show reviews Chelsea's 5-1 win over Bournemouth and asks whether the scoreline flattered them, while discussing João Pedro, Jordan Henderson and Chelsea's title credentials. The overall view is that Chelsea's attack can score heavily, but their habit of conceding too many goals is a major title risk.

Let's chat about one of Cass's former sides now. Chelsea pumped the cherries yesterday. 5-1 victory at Stamford Bridge. A brace for Pedro and Jordan Henderson of all people and Morgan Rogers with one of his own as well. All smiles, but Jason Candy yesterday says the result was not all that it seemed. >> It weren't that great. What do you mean? >> I know. >> 5-1. >> It's going to it's going to and I'm It's going to sound strange. I'm going to say this right at 3-0. I'm still not confident we're going to go and win the game. >> Oh, mate. Do do me a favor. What are you on about? You're winning 3-0. >> No. Yeah, but Jay, the the game itself, right, it it was a bit of an odd game. >> Even though we took the lead after 2 minutes, right? And then we to after 30 seconds and we're two nil up after 4-3. Then after that, Bournemouth actually came grew back into the game. >> I don't know if they did. >> They did. They grew back into the game. They had the two best chances. Ryan should have scored at least one of them. >> Jason Kundi there. Do you agree with that, Cass? Um, I mean, I know what he means because Chelsea fans experienced the 4-3 against Brighton. We talked about a little bit earlier that Chelsea do look like they're going to concede goals. >> Yeah, >> they just do. But the the play is quite brave. I mean, Yao Pedro is really at the stage now is I'm not sure who's actually better than him >> in the Premier League where the way he's finishing because he's got a lot of ability technically as well. Harland will probably win the golden boot if he stays fit, but Yao Pedro, can he get numbers plus 20? That's going to be the interesting one for him because the way that Chelsea play and Morgan Rogers has literally got into the team and, you know, after that big move and he looks like he's going to, you know, do a lot for Chelsea. Cole Palmer with assists. They've got a lot there to get goals this year. Chelsea are going to be the Harlem godders. Loads and loads of goals. A lot, you know, points. >> Absolutely. Is the title charge back on for the Chelse? >> They defensively are just not >> okay. Chelsea fan Jaden Dubes Jubé is with us now to give us his thoughts. Morning Doobs. You happy with that or was it overrated? >> Good morning. Good morning. Um, >> no. Um, you can't really ask for much more really than a 5-1 victory after the international break. Um, as I say though, I do understand Chelsea fans apprehension in regards to when we are 3-0 up because we've seen so many times this season. Even when we do look comfortable, Brighton game, perfect example, we still concede goals. So to only to only concede one goal yesterday, it's actually a bit of an improvement. I'll be honest. >> That's a positive. >> Yeah. But overall, as I said, you can't really ask for much more. We scored five goals. Even after we did concede that goal, which was unlucky if we're being honest, we we we got the fourth goal, we got the fifth goal, and at that point we were cruising. So, yeah. >> Yeah. Jaden, tell us what what you think of what I said there about um Pedro because he just looks like he's got a complete array of talent and you know, ne many things to his strings to his bow. >> Oh, he's currently Chelsea's best player at the moment. I don't think anyone can disagree with that. like he he's just our vocal point up front and we Chelsea have not had that since Diego Costa. I'm going to be honest like we've not had that vocal number nine up there who you know is going to bag when he's in the position. You just feel confident. So Xiao Pedra at the moment. Yeah, Harland but that's Erning Harden probably the best striker in world football at the moment. There's no one else in the Premier League, I would take over him at the moment. And I don't think any other like rival fan or any other one watching the Premier League can really disagree. What about Jordan Henderson? Impressed with him yesterday. >> Listen, 36 years old, still performing like that, playing 90 minutes at Stanford Bridge. Brilliant quality. And to get the first goal in the first minute like he did, that is just like that was it was almost like an Alampardesque shot like in the off the post in the back of the net. It's just a quality finish and then the free kick. >> Do I need to say much more about that? >> Yeah. >> But yeah, overall he just like he just what what really impressed me about his performance yesterday, he's just a classic leader. And again, I'll say again, Chelsea Football Club haven't had that really at all. I'd say since this new ownership's come in cuz we all know the model about the kind of players that they like to bring in like to bring in like newly newly developed players that they hope to like build up and develop but they brought in a 36-y old Jordan Henderson which let's be honest many people had question marks over like is he still going to be able to do it then he's played alongside Moyes Kiso and they just he just looked so comfortable in that role. >> Yeah. >> And then the two goals just topped it off for me really and the assist. So yeah he was quality yesterday. Well, it's something um sorry all of us have said you know from pundits to fans Chelsea fans always said don't ignore experience coming into a team because the value of them especially for younger play players is it you know it's absolutely paramount you need that experience in teams and all the best Chelsea teams have had it >> especially in a Chelsea team right now where like defensively we're struggling a bit like we're still conceding goals you need someone to like just get them in order and like feel like he helped with he helped with that yesterday. maybe wasn't able to do against Benford just because it maybe it wasn't the game right just the quality just wasn't there all around from the team and we were just struggling in that game but returned after the international break a Bournemouth team that don't have an Alex Scott that don't have a ky >> and we and he he's just like taken the game by the scruff and neck it was a brilliant performance from Jordan Henderson and all of a sudden Chelsea football club we've gone from having a midfield conundrum to all of a sudden we've got Kaisedo back we've got Labia who's in form after the international break his performance Jordan Henderson So we just put in the performance he did and we still got Barco. I I personally don't want to see we shames in midfield again. >> So our midfield looking looking good enough to last us till January. >> Yeah. No, it was a it was a good performance. You're right. I don't think you can ask for much more after an international break. Is the title charge back on dibs? >> Um I I want to see I want to see how we do in the games. Everton away next week. That is going to be a massive game. massive game cuz I think we struggled even we played at their new stadium once we lost and even then before that we struggled at Everton away when they were back at Gooderson Park and then we got Tottenham that should be three points Man United as well is going to be a tough game so I want to see how we do in the next one but there's no reason why we shouldn't be up there >> a little bit shade a little bit shade casted from you this morning dibs on Spurs they were out they were outstanding yesterday I have to say I'm joking listen Dubs thank you so much uh this morning for coming on and up the Chelse I guess. >> Up the Chelse. Thank you guys. Thank you. >> Bye buddy. Take care. Thank you. >> Who's conceded the most goals in the Premier League joint? There's two of them. >> Chelsea. >> Yeah, Chelsea and Bournemouth conceded the most goals. >> There you go. >> And that's that's the Achilles heel of Chelsea. That will cost them dearly if that stays in the same vein as where we are today. >> Okay. Coming up for you on the next hour on the show, we're going to look ahead to the South Coast Derby. Southampton versus Pompy. It's live on Talk Sport 2. Today we're going to go through our latest top five. We do a top five something every weekend breakfast on a Sunday. Today it's top five stadium atmospheres in the UK. And we're going to dive more into the papers next. I wonder which team is making the back pages. I'll give you a guess. >> Three-legged dog with fleas, mate. >> Is that three-legged dog with fleas? >> Brilliant.
