"MICHAEL CARRICK WILL GO!" Adrian Durham REACTS to Lisandro Martínez's BOMBSHELL Man United rant!
Rooney, Young, fans and the host debate Martinez's Man United outburst, with Adrian Durham predicting Carrick will go
This video reacts to Lisandro Martinez's post-match rant after Man United's loss to Atletico Madrid, hitting out at the hierarchy and Jason Wilcox. Rooney and Ashley Young see it as going too far and risking the dressing room, while several fans and Adrian Durham argue he is right about recruitment, the defence and the club's direction. The takeaway is that discontent at United may be broader than one player, with Michael Carrick's job under serious threat.
- Martinez went too far and could rip the dressing room apart — They see it as disrespectful because he was effectively saying his teammates are not good enough.
- Martinez was justified this time and should even have gone further, with his anger aimed at the hierarchy rather than his teammates — He says United's hierarchy is useless and years of media talk and protests have changed nothing; players such as Bruno Fernandes want signings who improve the team, so player backing could force change.
- United are still a shambles and last season's third place did not signal a revival — He points to ten years of poor signings, with Bruno Fernandes as a rare decent one; last season was helped by a new-manager bounce, no European or cup distractions, and many rivals underperforming.
- Martinez is absolutely right to call out Jason Wilcox and the United hierarchy — United failed to strengthen the defence and other key areas; there was no backup left-back, Luke Shaw was injured, two 20-year-old centre-backs started, Yoro was sent off, and another striker was probably needed.
- Spending 150 million pounds on three midfielders, including 50 million on Andre Santos, was not wise — Other parts of the squad needed attention; one midfielder had just come into the team after injury, Tielemans was a bargain because of his contract situation, and the Santos fee is questionable.
- Top players would rather go elsewhere now; United are no longer a first-choice destination — The club looks no longer serious about competing for the biggest honours; the ownership is unimpressive, Carrick is still a rookie and unproven at Premier League level, so players with options look elsewhere.
- United need senior, ready-made quality; Yoro has not yet justified his fee — Yoro is 20 and was bought two years ago as a teenager for 60 million pounds, but United are still waiting for him to come good; he was sent off after putting his hands all over his opponent, and a more experienced centre-back might not have done that.
- Martinez may also have a self-serving motive, either to engineer a move away or deflect from the players' performances — It reminds the host of the Romero situation; Adrian adds that the players have not done enough either, with captain Bruno Fernandes' Premier League numbers this season being poor.
- It feels almost inevitable that Michael Carrick will go unless United turn results around quickly — He says Carrick's tactical changes were baffling and proved costly; Elland Road will be fierce and Leeds would love to land a heavy blow on United.
- Carrick has been set up to fail because of the defence and the hierarchy — He argues that title and Champions League-winning teams start at the back, while United's defence is clearly not good enough and was not strengthened in the summer; Wilcox is good at finding young players but not elite as a first-team technical director, and the owners and debt are also to blame.

Former United players Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young both think Martinez, Lzandro Martinez, went too far >> and fear the damage inside the dressing room could be significant. There you go. Wayne said something like that will rip that dress room apart. It's disrespectful. He's saying his teammates aren't good enough. 03717234. That's the number to have your say on the situation. Joe's a Palace fan, but he wants to have his say. Good morning, Joe. Good morning, Joel. >> Good morning, chaps. How are we doing today? >> Oh, good. Joel. Oh, good. >> I just wanted to give like sort of an opinion of someone who is obviously I'm not emotionally invested in Mania or anything like that. >> Right. So, in 99% of the time, if a player comes out like this, I think it's a bad thing. I don't think it's good for the club, the players or anything like that. And I would usually agree with um Wayne Rooney. Yeah. On this occasion though, we've got such a unique situation where the the hierarchy of Man United, you know, you can put Stevie Wonder in there and he would do a better job. They are completely useless. Something has to change at that club. And I truly don't believe in this instance that the players would be against what um has said because the players themselves for example Bruno Fernando he will be expecting players to come in that are going to improve the team but that is not what's happening. So you know we've had the media talk about all the time nothing changes. They've had the protest since 2005 nothing changes. And so in this one one time, one unique time, I truly believe Martinez has said what he said and he should have gone further. It won't be good for him, but I think in the long run and the long term for Man United if the players actually come out and back him that might be the instigation to change and get Many back to where they are they should be. >> Can I ask you a quick question, Joe? Now I I take I take your point um and it's a valid one. Do you is there any part of you Joe that potentially thinking that Martinez has done this or is doing this to throw a little hand grenade into the situation to get himself away. >> I think I think 10% of it is that. But what I do think is if you actually listen to what he said, this is an emotional response to the club. I don't think this is um I don't think this is fully uh you know I'm Leandro I need to leave you all rubbish. I don't think it's that. I think he's actually given an emotional response which you know we all know that players do after the game and he has I don't believe he's thrown his players under the bus. >> I think he's thrown I think he's thrown the hierarchy under the bus and rightly so. >> Okay. And and the thing and the point is if the players don't agree with him then that is also part of the problem. >> Yeah. >> Joe, thank you for that. And >> you think Joe thought that Bruno could hear the drums. >> We were talking to Bruno Fernando. >> Can you hear the drums? >> Can hear the By the way, I went and I went Saturday night. >> Aba, >> you did not. I'm telling you right now, you've got to go with Jill >> Voyage. >> It is fantastic. >> Queen are gonna do it. Do you know that? >> Oh, that'd be incredible. But I tell you, honestly, it was brilliant. >> Brilliant. You forget how many crazy songs. >> Magic songs. >> Magic. Kenny's a United fan. Kenny, good morning. >> Kenny, good morning. >> Morning, guys. I'm phoning in because United this hurts me to say this but I've I've said it before but a number of years ago but nothing's changed. The club United are a shambles and it hurts me to say that you can mask a multitude of problems. The board the stadium the money get the recruitment right. >> The team improves it. The problems disappear. Who have United signed in the last 10 years who's been any anybody decent? Bruno Fernandez. Well, Kenny, Kenny, were you not a we bit were you not a wee bit excited at the end of last season? Think next year, next year we're back. >> No, honestly, Alan, no. No, I wasn't. No, >> it was it was mask. It was papering over the cracks. There was a lot of teams who underperformed last year and United picked up the new manager, the new bounce. We didn't have Europe. We didn't have any cup competitions. That's all we could concentrate on. And we were were celebrating, I suppose from where we came from, we're celebrating being third. This is Manchester United. >> Yeah, Kenny, I think you're right, mate. You're right. I think you're absolutely right. >> Kenny, I know you're Yep, we know what you're saying. Thank you, Kenny. Kenya United fan not good enough. Right. Keep your calls coming in. Headlines this morning is Manchester United defender Argentine Leandro Martinez, who in an interview with Amazon Prime after United's two-nil loss to Madrid last night, launching Atletico, by the way, uh launching a scathing rant on the Manchester United board. >> You had a fantastic season last season. And now we we expect more from from the top from up you know to bring more more player to to compete because many many teams uh bring many players as well and today also Atéico they have an amazing team >> but what you're saying is you expected more investment in the squad in the summer. >> Yeah 100%. our aspect from our technical director I have to be honest you know >> often in this situation it's the manager who is the one that is is removed you can't necessarily go >> you start changing changing changing manager and but what about other areas >> I can I can't say more >> oh dear exclusive we have some exclusive information senior Manchester United players share Lzandro Martinez frustration with hierarchy talkport understands. >> Martinez called out sporting director Jason Wilcock over a lack of squad strengthening following Tuesday's two-nil defeat at Atletico Madrid in a bombshell post-match interview. Talk Sport has been told the Argentine is by no means the only United to start unhappy where perceived lack of ambition at board level with sporting director Will Cox firmly in the firing line. There's a sense Jason Wilcox missed the opportunity to build on the momentum of the second half of last season, but only bringing in three midfielders in the summer when other areas of the squad were in need of addition. Captain Bruno Fernandez has been visibly frustrated during United's poor recent run and doubts remain over his long-term future at the club. To give us more, let's bring in Talk Sports chief football anchor Adrien Dunham. Adrien, morning. >> Adrian, good morning. >> Alan, Alli, good morning to you. Uh Adrian, what do you make of this outburst then? Look, has he got a point or is he bang out of order? >> I think it's great, isn't it? When when a player comes out and calls it as he sees it like that. Listen, first of all, you've got to look at the players. Are they doing enough? Then you look at Michael Carrick, is he doing enough? And I don't think you can tick both boxes, but he's absolutely spot on. It's funny, we were talking about Man United before the game on on the radio last night and Alex Crook um who's a celebrity Manchester United fan as you know has uh come out and basically said listen these these uh the hierarchy at United needed to do a lot more in the summer when you look at it they didn't have a backup left back Luke Shaw's now injured that's a problem you had two center halves very young both 20 Loro who was sent off last night Aiden Heaven both of them started last night who a lot of people really like but they probably think he's not at that elite level anymore and Lzandro Martinez was injured. Matias Deit was injured. They didn't reinforce at the back. Did they need another goal scorer? Probably. Probably needed to offload a few as well. So, I think he's absolutely correct to call out the Sporting Direct. I mean, but do we know that Jason Wilcox had he was he had limited money to spend? Do we know the full ins and outs? What was at his disposal? Well, he spent uh 150 million pounds on three midfielders. So, Carlos Baliba is one. He's only just got into the team because he's been injured. He might prove to be a good signing. Let's wait and see. Yuri Tielemans was a bit of a bargain uh because of contractual situation. Fine. Why spend 50 million on Andre Santos? And I'm not sure that that was a wise move when other areas of the squad needed looking at. Listen, I think it's right to call out Jason Wilcox here. Jason Wilcox should have had an uncomfortable night looking at how good a job he is doing at Manchester United because >> Leandro Martinez is spot on. Michael Carrick in an easy lazy season 40 games only last season did all he could to get Manchester United back to the top table Champions League. That's when they needed to be present him with a really good competitive quality squad to go for it domestically and in Europe this season and it didn't happen. a bit like Celtic last year fortunate to win the SPL did they then suddenly go out and say that was a bit of luck let's strengthen now right away they didn't but aid my point to you is this mate right you're right they spent 150 words in three midfielders whatever it may be the fact of the matter is Ellie Anderson who incidentally was absolutely outstanding at the weekend and players of that caliber would rather go somewhere else now than Manchester Manchester United. >> Well, that's true. And and people might lazily look at that and say, "Oh, that's City cheating." What it is is Manchester United not being serious about the top honors anymore. That's why a lot of players do not want to go to Manchester United. Maybe part of it is because they didn't have faith in the hierarchy at United. They have a look at the ownership and they're not impressed with that. They might look at the manager, Michael Carrick, who's a rookie at Premier League level, did a job at Middlesbrough and did okay, but he's still very much unproven. So they might look at that and say no actually we'll go elsewhere. If they've got choices Man United are not going to be their first choice and I think in the current climate and recent years you can understand that >> Adrian though I'm I'm trying to play devil's advocate here. So Jason Wilcox's getting peltters. Look at the guy bought is he getting peltters 118 million but Martinez everyone is having a go at Jason Wilcox. Is was it Jason's fault after 18 seconds and Michael Carrick that they go one down in Madrid? You know that's Dy players surely. >> Well, it is, but that's that's the point. Are those players good enough? Would you have had if you if they'd have reinforced at the back, would you have had decisions made by those bettered players coming in that were made last night that led to that goal going in. Lenny Yoro, as I say, 20 years old now. He actually cost a lot of money, £60 million, but was it money well spent? Cuz he was bought two years ago as a teenager. There's a lot of potential there, but Man United need it in the here and now, and they're still waiting for Lenny Euro to come good. So, he got sent off last night. It was a little bit soft, but he was a little bit silly as well. Hands all over his opponent. So, I'm looking at that thinking, would a more senior, more experienced center half done that. So, I I think that I understand the point you're making, Al, but I think if you generally if you sign better players, you're going to do better. >> Well, yeah. What I mean is if you're a manager like Alli's been and you've you've given your team talk, come on. This is going to be tough. We're in Madrid. Get out there early on. Don't give the ball away. No facility mistakes. 18 seconds. >> Do you know where I'm at, mate? I'll tell you where I'm on it at. Right. I'll defend anybody's right to have an opinion and say, you know, given us your view and Martinez has done exactly that. However, I need inform you, mate. There's something at the back of my head, niggling away a little bit like the Romero situation. And maybe I'm getting it wrong. It maybe just suits Martinez to be the one to have the pop >> possibly. And I think you've talked earlier today about on on this show about how it might be with a view to him getting himself away from United and I understand that. It might actually also be with a view to a deflection from what the players are doing. >> Listen, as I said at the start, you've got to look at the players. Some of them aren't doing enough. I'd look at Bruno Fernandez, for example, player of the year. Last year, his numbers were off the charts, record-breaking. This year you take out the Ipsswitch game, he's got no goals and no assists in the Premier League. So he's not doing the business either. That's your captain of the football club. So yeah, you've got to look at the players. Absolutely. And you have to ask the question, is Michael Carrick going to be good enough to manage Manchester United? Let's analyze that because he made some changes yesterday tactically that absolutely baffled and flawed me. But and and they proved to be uh their undoing. >> You think his days are numbered? Just I've got a break. Do you think his days are numbered? Is you know if they if they go telling road and get beat is that it >> does it feel like an inevitability absolutely that Michael Carrick will go? It feels like it's something that he can't stop unless they turn around those results. Ellen Road will be fierce on Sunday. Leadeds hate Manchester United. They would love nothing more at Ellen Road to put that dagger in. I think that leads could do a number on Manchester United. Got to go to a break, mate. You got away with murder. I wanted to hit you with Barry Fry on yesterday, man. Barry Fry was brilliant and the posh flying after the result of the weekend, mate. Terrific. But we've not got time. >> Where's the It's the savution. We're on our way. >> Great stuff, mate. >> Nice one, Adrian. Thank you. Coming up, the calls have gone crazy. So many of you want to have your say in this breaking news that several players are backing the Martinez comments last night. Poor old Jason Wilcox getting pellers and the board. Is this a revolt at Manchester United? Lead United are away. Fox understands Manchester United players, senior players share Lando Martinez frustration with a hierarchy. So we witness a revolt at one of the world's biggest clubs. So many of you want to have your say. Let's speak to Billy who is a United fan. Morning Billy. >> Morning Billy. >> Morning Al. Morning Alli. H firstly Al. Lovely to hear you back on the radio. I know you've been back a while but just >> Thank you. Thank you Billy. Thank you. I mean it. Brilliant. Um, I just want to say your breaking news. Uh, I called it last night. Landro Martinez is one of the locker room leaders. That's we know that he's one of them that was put kind of putting in Kenhog's era of these are these are the guys that are in there as leaders. Isn't it interesting that Bruno Fernandez didn't do the interview last night? He always does the interview. You can see there's a smirk on his face. They knew what was coming and it is it is time for this to be called out. I mean, you neither of you were invested in Man United. And I know how you played for Man United, so neither of you invested in it. Everyone has to see what the owners have done to this club. You know, I grew I grew up in the 90s with, you know, and it was a fantastic football and Man United was bestin-class. Is Jason Wilcox the best in class as a technical director. No, he's not. I think he's fantastic at finding young players. We've seen that over the last few seasons. But as a first team, Michael Carrick has been set up to fail. Look at the defense. anyone Stevie Wonder can see that that defense is not good enough and that whatever you do look at Arsenal correct every title winning team every Champions League winning team it starts at the back and that is where the problems lie and that's what we needed in the summer now whether you know it's all to do with the money the billion pound of debt that we're in but that is on the owners and you know I think this is a case of Man United were bored Man City again all the headlines and they've gone you know what we're going to throw in a bomb But Martinez is definitely the four guy. He's probably wants to go in the summer. That's that's fine. That is what it is. >> You're spot on, mate. You're absolutely spot on. What happened with Arsenal? They've got the best defense going in the league by but by country mile. They get an injury to Celiba. What do they do? They go and get the best center half in the league in concert. That's the first thing they do. Spot on. >> Absolutely. >> Billy, thank you. Lovely. Okay.
