So, the fact that the animal exists as a matter of course in it less than ideal scenario is one thing, but now you're moving it along to the distress of the animal without really knowing the motivations behind the people that are caring for it, what they think of it, why they think the animal wouldn't be as distressed as you're suggesting it would be. All of those have to be factored into a balanced conversation surely. I know you've done other bits for talk sport, but this is your first 3 hours cocoms, right? >> Yeah. One co-presenting. >> I not really. No, I've got you beside me. So, >> yes. You're in a safe pair. Safe pair of hand. >> Exactly. We'll have a we'll have a laugh and talk over some good topics. >> Yes. But you don't get nervous. No. Did you ever get nervous before a football match? >> Uh Sheffield United playoff final was the last time I got nervous in a football game. >> All right. But not big England games or Manchester City. >> No, because I think you you probably know what you're capable of and know what you can do and um >> I just trusted in myself. But she play final against Burnley. >> Yeah, >> I was I was very >> It's nice. I think it's nice when you get nervous, right? When you're >> maybe out of your comfort zone. I mean, here you're out of your comfort zone, but you wouldn't have been in that dress room. Why were you nervous then? >> Nerves are good, aren't they? Yeah, >> you always need a little bit of nerves when you're playing football and doing something that you enjoy like this. I do get a little bit nervous, I'm going to say, but not >> where I can't do it. So, >> no, you'll be the only reason you've been asked to do it is cuz we know you're good, right? If you weren't if you weren't, you wouldn't be asked. So, the fact you're here, we know you're going to be great for the next three hours. I should point out that me and Carl have been chatting for the last half an hour about trainers. >> Yeah, >> it's quite I never was that man. This is Darren Ben's fault. I had two pairs of trainers before I met Benny and now I showed you the pictures of I bored you and then you were showing me yours and we were literally just >> trainer swapping. I mean it's good. I think once you get that addiction and once you understand a pair of trainers I think it's so much better. Um you appreciate and like you said when you're on the train and you don't want people to stand on them it's >> yeah it can be a little bit annoying sometimes but I think it's a good addiction to our >> Who's the worst out of all the teammates you've had for Trey? Like would come in with a brand. See, Benty used to tell me when he was I think when he was at Spurs. Yeah. He used to buy the white Air Force. Yeah. >> But I had like 50 pairs or something and he'd wear them once and because you get the crease in that, right? >> Yeah. >> Who had the worst addiction to trainers out of all your teammates? >> I'm going to say Ruben Diaz had a good He's got a good collection of trainers. >> Good taste of trainers. >> Good taste as well. Ellie Alli, I think he's been doing a few of his streams now and you can see the trainers in the background. He's got a a good sense in style. So, uh, there's a few I think a lot of people have a little bit of a train. >> Was it a big thing? Would you come in with like a new pair of train? >> You need to, don't you? You do that. >> Sometimes you do need to when you get the I don't know the new Travis or >> Yeah. >> the new latest pair of trainer comes out, you want to be the first one to wear it in, don't you? >> And was it the same with like watches and cars? And I mean, what levels you guys take it to? >> I think watches watches are a big thing now as well. I think obviously they're a little bit of a collector's item as well where you can >> profit from them in in a way. Um, >> did you ever have anyone come in? And this might not be your era of football, maybe the one before where someone would turn up at a training ground with a load of rookie gear in their boot and then you'd find out it was fake. Did anyone come in with you go, "Oh, let me let me look at our watch. That's not real." >> There's been times I know there was someone back in the day that when we ever went Newcastle, he would always come to your room and bring a load of really >> Wesley's Yeah. Wesley Sniders into the room. Yeah. Yeah. So nice. >> Um I'm not going to name names who bought them. I'm not going to do that. Uh but I think a few of the lads bought them. >> Well, knowing they were fakes or thinking they could get away with it. >> Well, knowing that the things and also thinking could get away with it as well. >> Save a few quid. >> Yeah. >> Nice. >> Why not? I like that. I like it. I like it. >> Okay, good. Well, listen, I'm really honored that you've decided to spend the next three hours with us. Thank you for that. We got so much to talk about, but we're going to start off by looking back at last night's football. Phil Foden banged a hat-tick for Man City as they smashed AK Athens. So, is there a way back into the England team for Foden >> into the area Foden's hat trick? There it is. And again, Academy products combined for Manchester City. >> What he was was a breath of fresh air in that Man City circumstance where he stayed where other players like Jadden Sancho didn't want to wait for their turn and out the door they went to try and find their opportunities somewhere else. >> The fact that he can play all them positions and probably on a general rule of thumb deliver a decent performance and sometimes a very good one is very helpful. You know, Anthony Gordon on the left is a given for England. Duke Bellingham at 10 is a given for England, but Phil Foden has to be knocking on that door. And there's no reason why he can't be doing that. Yeah, Man City smashed Lake Athens 5-1 in the Champions League last night. And Phil Fodden stole the headlines with a hat-tick. Uh that takes him to four goals and three assists in seven games this season. His Gaffenzo Mesa spoke afterwards and said Fodden will be important for them this season. >> Yeah, absolutely. But anyway, we know that uh Phillies is a top player again for different reason. He had some problem in the last two years. But uh I know that uh is is is going to help us and is how good is I know that that's why I'm so you know keen with him to to to have him in the best way. >> Listen, I'm a big Phil Foden fan as I'm sure you are. He's your ex- teammate. Um how pleased were you to see Fodden back in the goals last night? No, it's good. I think um I said he got sent off in the derby which wasn't ideal, you know, for him, but Man City went and got the the the victory that they needed. But I think that we always talk about Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, these types of players, and we try and fit them into an England team most definitely, but they're top top players and you can't hide from Phil Foden in being a well, he's a serial winner and is an unbelievable football player. >> Where do you think his best position is? That that's a question and I think that's a question that everyone is probably asking now. Um >> you've played with him, right? Yeah. He's your pal. >> Yeah. >> Where do you think if you were his manager, where would you fit him? >> I put him in a number 10 role. I put him in a number 10 role. But I think the likes of City where you've had Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, he's had to wait for these players to either leave or, you know, come of age or not inform to then get his chance. And then you look at England, Wendy's due Bellingham, Cole Palmer, uh Morgan Rogers, all these players that can play in the number 10. It's tough competition, but Phil can more than definitely do it. How do you get phone into that England side then? I I think he's one of the the most naturally gifted footballers we've had for a long long time. And and it whenever I see him not starting for Man City and the players you've named, right, an abundance of talent there from Kevin De Bruyne, Silva, etc. There's there's so much talent up and down the years for Many in that role, but he has to play, but I just don't know how you cram him. Let's talk about England. You touched on England. You got Bellingham in the 10, you got Rice behind, and we've got an abundance of players desperate to have that number 10 role. >> Can he play the six, do you think? Can he can he be that player that The reason I say you you've got someone like Fatin, right, who scored for PSG against Barcela last night. Does Bowden have the the sort of same ability to potentially play a little bit deeper like him? I think it's a little bit difficult that one um putting foding in there when you're playing the lesser teams in all all respect to them. Maybe yeah, you could probably do that, but against the top nations, against the top teams in the Champions League, you know, Phil Fodin is probably not going to be best as a number six for me. >> So, how do you get him in? Well, that that's the that's the problem and it's a good problem for >> it's a good problem but >> you know Enzo to have and also for Thomas to have you know that you've got all these players that can play in these positions and you need to be playing the people that are playing in form and I think that's what England should be about. I think over the years we probably had the same amount of players or the same players called up to the squad continuously, but I think Thomas is doing it right now where you're playing there and you get into the England squad by going in there on full in the past several managers, England managers have struggled to get the best players into their starting 11 and crammed them into different areas. I remember Paul Scholes playing out wide more often than he was playing central. Joe Cole playing out wide as well. Do you think someone like Phil Foden you have to squeeze him in somewhere in that England side or should he only be playing in the role that's suited for him? >> I think we squeeze him in in the I look back at Germany and did Phil Foden probably play his best football for England then? No, we didn't. Uh he was coming off for a good season, but it was putting Phil Foden wide on the left that probably you're not going to get the best out of Phil Foden. Um, and it's not going to do him any good either when he's playing out of position and not playing and performing well. Uh, I think everyone can see that Phil Fod in a Man City shirt is a very, very good player. Phil Fod in an England shirt probably hasn't lived up to the expectations that we all put on him. And he'll probably, he won't mind me saying that. I think he'll be honest himself and say that he needs to do more in an England shirt, but he needs to play well. and putting in an actric last night and doing the things that he does in a Man City shirt is only going to help him. >> Have we seen the best of him? And I don't mean that in a is he getting worse. What I mean is is there still more goodness to come, do you think? Has he re has he reached his pomp yet? >> I I joined it in 2017 and he was 17 years old and I remember going into the training session. There was him and Brahheim Diaz and I couldn't believe the standard that these two kids basically was at. I still think there's so much more to come from him. He's going to get obviously he's won a lot and he knows a lot about the football game but he's going to with more experience and you know picking your right times to arrive into the box to pass to shoot he's only going to get better and you know it's a good problem for the England team to have with Foden Bellingham Palmer Gibbs White Rogers um it's a great problem for England >> with with his style of football. Do you think it he's best suited for Premier League football? And I'm not suggesting that you say actually he should move abroad. I'm not. So, but when you look at how the games are played maybe in Italy and Spain at maybe a slightly slower pace, >> would that suit his game more, do you think? >> I mean, technical ability is probably the best I've ever seen, >> hands down. >> Wow. >> With, you know, I've not had the pleasure to play with Messi. Uh, but >> you've been on the field with me. >> I've been on the field. Yeah. But for god-given talent, what Phil Foden has, it's unbelievable what he can do with a football. Um but I I always revert back to if Phil Foden plays like he does for Manchester City then he will obviously get into the England team. But would I say that Spain Italy is probably more suited for him? Maybe. Maybe. But Phil Foden's won enough. He's won a trouble he's a trouble winning you know um teammate of mine and he he's got more Premier Leagues to definitely win. >> How much of the manager's job is to get the best out of him? because under Pep, he obviously played Yeah. >> his best football. >> How much of him producing that kind of talent is down to Pep? >> Of course, it's it's down to Pep. It's a lot of us and a lot of our success was down to Pep. You know, obviously he had good players and we was a good team. Uh but how he coached us and how he trained us daily to get to where we needed to was unbelievable. But Phil now needs to take it on his shoulders now. He's not the young Phil at 17, 18, 19 years old now. is a, you know, 26 year old man that needs to show up on each and every game and obviously we see these results and these games and these stats now, but these need to come more often for him to, you know, make sure that he's in contention to start every week for Man City. >> Just going back to what you saying before, I always I'm so curious when I get people in that know these. I I know Phil Foden through a TV. I've never met the fellow, right? He looks a lovely guy, right? And there's no doubting his ability. But when I've got someone like you that has played with him day in day out on the training ground, I'm always curious when you say like you saw him at 17 and he was just above and beyond. What was he doing? What made him so special? What could he do as a 17, 18, 19 year old that you hadn't seen before? Is there is there a particular there there was this one day etc. >> No, I I think you look at it and I was very fortunate to come through obviously the likes of Tottenham with Harry Kane, Ryan Mason, Tom Carroll, Andros Towns and uh these players was unbelievable and then when I went to City it was just like another different breed. Had you heard about F before you? >> No, nothing. Nothing. Jadden Sancho was there and obviously you've got these Jadden Sancho, Brian Diaz and Phil Foden and you're coming in and you're thinking these are 17. You look back to yourself when you were 17. He's like I was nowhere near these. I was completely nowhere near it. But the manipulation with the ball, the knowledge of how the game should be played and what Pep wanted at that time was unbelievable. And I think you know all of them unlucky for you know Jaden now that it's happened the way it's happened but each and every one of them have had great careers from a 70-year-old boy when I first arrived at Etiad. >> We're going to take calls on Phil phone just if you sign off on it if you can. You think he should be I mean we all think he should be playing for England. There's no doubt about that. But find find somewhere in that starting 11 from he needs to start for England. >> He's got massive competition and that's the good headache that we have in in this in this team. I'm not saying he definitely should be starting. He needs to produce the the stats that he's doing now and the games like he did last night and then he's in contention, but you've got Dub Bellingham, got Sacko, you've got Rio that we're talking about a little bit later on in the show. Uh so it's tough competition, but it's good competition. >> Yeah, nice problems for us to have. >> Correct. >> Not for him. No. We'll take your calls on all things Phil. Can he force himself back into that England squad? And if he can find a place where it's that simple. 03717234. A great great drive time show today. I'm very excited about it. me go. More importantly, I've got alongside me for the next three hours England's greatest ever right back in Carl Walker. We can bring in the presenter, content creator and quitter, traffic quitter Joe Bayer, who ditched his plans earlier this morning to join us in the studio due to London traffic apparently. >> Or is he just scared of Oh, Gabby. traffic. >> Morning, Joel. Guys, >> morning. Sorry for that stress. Morning. Sorry for that stress this morning. >> Listen. Listen. Honestly, I wanted to come in and look Gabby right in his eyes because I heard what he said about Arsenal being boring. How can you say we're boring when Villa, right, they've only scored seven goals this season and you're 12th? That's boring. >> We don't spend lose every week. >> We don't spend what you spend. >> What Arsenal are allowed t
