"THE SEASON'S DONE!" Tony Cascarino & Shebahn Aherne TEAR INTO Man Utd's performance vs Spurs!
Man United slammed for lacking quality as Carrick's direction is questioned; Spurs' late draw still cannot hide how poor both sides were
The show discusses the Manchester United-Tottenham draw, focusing on United's lack of quality, poor running stats and lack of cohesion, with Cascarino saying their season is already done. Spurs are also described as having been awful this season, though the late equaliser showed fight and enough to give some fans a little optimism.
- He understands the frustration, but the team must ride out this bad spell and put things right — Their second-half response showed the players care and are trying to do the right things; this is just a difficult run
- United lacked quality and Spurs should have been well ahead by half-time if they had been clinical — United were poor on the ball and second best throughout the first half, Bruno Fernandes did not look fit, and only the substitutes gave them a lift
- United's season is already done and it is hard to see them being a Champions League team — They have only one win in six Premier League games and lost 3-2 at home to Brighton in the cup, making it a very poor start
- Both teams were among the worst in the league yesterday, and United were worse than the worst — Beyond a few individual positives from substitutes and certain players, there was very little to take from the performance
- Carrick gives no clear sense of direction and the team are not running for him — They were outperformed in the running stats and are 16th in distance covered in the Premier League this season; Ten Hag at least won a trophy
- United are not cohesive as a team this season and the responsibility lies with Carrick — Several players are off form and the keeper has made mistakes; the team simply have not gelled
- Spurs need that kind of fight, and the sending-off actually ignited them — The coach thanked the sent-off player afterwards for showing the fight he thinks Spurs need, and his behaviour around the equaliser showed passion and fight
- Spurs should not get too optimistic just because they salvaged a draw against United; they have been awful this season — If they lose at home to Coventry next weekend, that optimism will disappear immediately
- Still, Spurs showed more yesterday than they had been showing, which will please a lot of fans — Compared with their previous performances, there was more to take from yesterday

We'll get to the late game because Dominic Sanki scored in stoppage time to salvage a point for 10-man Tottenham Hotspur and they snatched the draw against Manchester United. I mean, let's just get into Michael Carrick first. He told Talk Sport he understands the frustration at the present time. There was booze at fulltime Old Trafford yesterday. >> The reality is a reality, you know, and and and I understand that. Um it hurts, you know, obviously we we all care an awful lot. Um sometimes maybe too much and it and it goes over the other way, but um we definitely care with the the boys. I think you could say the way they they got back in the game and the way they they they pulled it together second half really. I think that's that shows how how much they're trying to do um or they want to do the right things in and and win games, you know, and um if we do certain things then we'll give ourselves a better chance. Um at the moment it's it's that kind of spell. Um we definitely got to work through it, you know. We um there's there's when you're trying to get the success and build success and um build consistency, sometimes you got to go through and you got to suffer a little bit or obviously suffering a little bit with a with the results at this moment in time. Um but we got to make things right. >> What do you think of that Cass? >> Um well, it was a very difficult afternoon and it's been a difficult start to the season and one standout feature for me in the game was the lack of quality that Manchester United had. I'm not sure Bruno Fernandez was fit at all. And there's a number of issues with players that go on international duty, come back and just don't look sharp or okay, I understand all the traveling and all other aspects of, you know, what international football can cause. Um, they didn't play well. They weren't good on the ball. You know, they were second best literally the whole of the the first half for me. Spurs, if they had any shape or form of being clinical, would have been comfortably already in the lead at Halime. Um it was a really hard performance to watch and it was only really when the substitutes came came on and Believer added a bit of impact in midfield, a bit of drive that they looked like they could get something going. Um but they were they were really poor. Um what do you say when you gone six games through? Okay, it's early doors, one victory so far in the six Premier League games. But if you take the cup game against Brighton as well that they played and they lost 3-2 at Old Trafford, they've been really poor at the start of this season. I mean, it's early days, six games played, but the season's done >> for Manchester United. >> Well, I it's very hard to see them being a Champions League team, making the champions a really hard pitch cuz I'm looking at them thinking there was some strange things happen when Darlow comes on. Now, he's not had a good season for Man United, but when he gets on the ball, he was so hesitant and you could feel in the the atmosphere in the Old Trafford that the fans were just demanding for them to get the ball forward into dangerous areas, but they were lacking quality in their passing. Tielemans has really struggled with his passing since he joined Manchester United. >> The positives that you focused on there with Carlos Bleba coming on >> and and creating more and getting the ball up the pitch. Brian Burma can nick you a goal. Kobe Mayo is a horse. I Martinez is a leader. I like Martinez. >> Yeah. >> But otherwise, Cass, it's mint. It's two of the worst teams in the league we watched yesterday, and Man United were worse than the worst. >> Yeah. Well, >> I I I can't I can't actually say anymore. And I I I'm really sorry because it's it's the same old story with Manchester United with the managers, but I'm so uninspired by Michael Carrick. And I said that yesterday. You're coming back into the Premier League after a three-week international break and I'm so un I'm just so un >> Well, you had that with Tenhog, didn't you? He was quite an uninspiring. >> I know. In the end, Tenhag still won a trophy whereas with Carrick, I'm like, hold on a minute. Where are we going here? What's happening here? They're so and and then also I thought, well, one thing we can look at is the running stats if the team are working for him, but they're not. They're not. I mean outperformed in every department yesterday. Distance covered, running, sprinting, number of sprints. We're 16th in distance covered in the Premier League so far this season. >> So they're not working for him, you know, and I think we were lucky, by the way, that Luke Shaw stayed on the pitch. He's he's absolutely flattened. >> I I actually think that and there wasn't much said about that by you know by the obviously >> because he's put he's gone forward as his head Ben which by the way where I'm from that's not class ahead but that's called a bit of a square goal. He's offered him out. >> Luke Shaw's flattened him. He's lucky have stayed on the pitch. >> There's so little positive to take from that performance yesterday. And one thing I did like about Ruben Amarim at at least he could talk the talk. Mhm. >> We get battered so many times, but at least he inspired me. With Carrick, I'm looking and going, I don't know where we're going from here. Champions League is going to be a disgrace. >> The other competitions, I'm just >> we're already out of cup. So if you look at the team and you go through the side and you go who's playing well and who's not having any different time now that I look at Kuna and I and and Kuna can on his day like he did last season at Arsenal when he can get a great goal you know a type of goal that you know quality players can get. I look at him and I don't think he's been the same this season at all. I look at Tieleman's coming in struggled. I thought Kobe Mayu was probably one of the better players on the pitch for >> KBY was brilliant. Yeah, one of the best. >> Martinez's defender has had some bad injuries and he's made some really big mistakes in games. Muire's done okay. Sure. Um, last season was excellent for them. I don't think he's played nowhere near I thought yesterday Kudos really got past him a good few times early on. Uh, Lman's the keeper has made a few mistakes as well. So, it feels like they're they're not and and look, we can go through. I'm not trying to scapegoat anybody here because it it's a team game and you you don't feel that team is jelled very well this season and that comes under Michael Carrick that that's his issue he's going to have to deal with. >> And the one thing yesterday where there's just no excuse is it's Spurs. >> Yeah. >> And Spurs are were rock bottom get into that game. And you look at the differences in managers and the differences in the fan base, they were buzzing to nick a point. >> Man United were just like, "Oh, >> did you did you read deserve his comments about Ben Benor?" >> No. What did he say? He >> he thanked him afterwards because and he said it in a way that meant that because he got sent off ignited >> showed the fight >> Spurs, which he thinks they need. They need that type of fight to get back into a game and get something out of it. The way he behaved as Zerby at that equalizer for me showed everything. Passion fight. Yes, we've been terrible, but we've nicked a point against Man United. >> There will be some Spurs fans who are a lot more optimistic because they were clearly the better team. It's just looking at Manchester United um yesterday. Yeah, >> as bad as they've said been for a long while. >> It's it's hard to see where it goes from here as Manchester United fans is the season over already. We're going to do your calls a little bit later on, but you can get them in now. 03717234 deserby. It was like he's been listening to the sports bar from yesterday performance. He saw encouraging signs. >> We are playing we are working to improve. We are working to to be better for sure. We are working to win many many games. I think if we play like this maybe not 45 minute maybe 60 70 80 90 because we we work to to play 90 minutes like the first half I think we we going to win many games uh even in away at home everywhere >> they turning that around do you take I mean they were >> well we we got we can't be shortsighted here because of what's happened so far this season Spurs have been awful you know and when I hear You know, Spurs are not as bad as where they're on the table. They were they and they've been really poor at the start of this season. >> Now, a bit of optimism from from yesterday. Take that forward. You get beat at home by Coventry next weekend. That will all be gone. That'll be all gone. It'll be so pessimistic. The view that that's how football works. We all have to put up with that. That you know, your team can be up there and they can be down there a week later. Um but I did think yesterday that they showed a lot more than what I've seen which will please a lot of Spurs fans. >> Yeah. And then the other hand I think Manchester United fans their reaction at full time. Yeah. There's there's so little positive to focus. >> Yeah. I I was at the Arsenal yesterday that you see reaction at Halime. >> Yeah. Know >> disappointment from the Arsenal fans of leads were the best. I mean we're going to talk about that later but they were really disappointed. >> Uh you can let us know your thoughts today. 8108903717234. It's the weekend sports breakfast here on Talk Sport. Coming up next, we'll get into this morning's back pages of the newspapers.
