Cox breakfast me Alan Brazil and Tony Cascarino. Now the club is never out of the news. >> Glory glory man United. Glory glory man United. Glory glory man UNITED >> and a big game coming up for United the weekend. Oh leads United versus Man United. Lauder's back with us L. Morning. Hi Laura. >> Morning. Morning. Yes, we are talking about of course Landro Martinez who has doubled down on his criticism of the Man United hierarchy following their two-nil loss to Atletico Madrid the other night. First, let's hear what the Talk Sport pundits had to say about his outburst. >> There goes the fulltime whistle on a depressing night for Michael Carrick and Manchester United. >> Start changing changing changing manager and but what about other areas? I wish he'd just button it cuz he has let United down so many times. >> Selfish, self-indulgent, irrelevant of whether he's right or wrong. You don't say that. >> That's from our technical director. >> It is a shocking state of Manchester United's dressing room. It probably indicates how little control Carrick's got over the players. >> I would definitely be then going like, okay, what do you think of me? These things don't end well, man. They don't end well. >> Yeah. So, Landre Mart has released a statement on uh Instagram. Um he doesn't apologize for what he said. He explains that it was out of anger and frustration. So, you know, he's sort of doubling down a little bit. There is reports that there was a confrontation between him and a teammate on the plane home, but largely lots of fans and lots of his teammates uh agree with what he said um that the club haven't invested in the squad. Cass uh this weekend makes it very difficult for Carrick. Does Landre Mart leads? >> Um well, no. He needs him. The manager needs him to play. >> And >> can he play though after he's had this outburst? >> Well, he can put the put the player to the test, can't he? >> He can go and loan him, say, "Right, you're in the team today. Now, what you said in midweek, now show me what you can do on the pitch." Cuz one of the things that people are going to be critic criticizing him for is that you're not playing well. When you're a player that's not playing well out in the dressing room or, you know, someone who's not playing well and they're lecturing others, >> that doesn't go down well. No, doesn't >> uh his contract expires next summer actually, so United have an option to extend it. >> I wouldn't be playing him. >> No, you drop him. >> No, no. He had a go at Jason Wilcox as well, didn't he? Look, I I don't know how good Jason is. I know that when he got that job, head of recruitment, people are saying, "Oh, he's a great guy. He's a great guy. He'll do well." >> So, I can only go by that. I don't know him. Uh but uh I think he was out of order. I think it was just frustration. shouldn't have said it, but you know, he could he could say sorry, but as you say, the the point here, Laura, is his contract's up and he will not be getting a renewed contract. I'm sure of that. >> No, no. And Man United fans might be getting a bit of a sense of dja vu ahead of this weekend because if you remember back in January, Ruben Amarim was sacked after they drew with leads and after he had also fallen out with Jason Wilcox. So back in January during that transfer window, Amarim publicly criticized the hierarchy um after that draw with Leeds he said I will do my job and every department including the scouting department and the sporting director needs to do theirs. He was then sacked. So Carrick goes to leads. Yeah. >> In a similar sort of situation under pressure his players speaking out against Jason Wilcox. >> Could this be the end? >> Of course it could. Of course it could. people are talking about it, you know, all the time. And uh you've got uh Conte Hovering, hasn't he? He's he's already admitted. Well, yeah, the English Premiership would definitely interest me. So, we know he's about uh also um Kieran McKenna's about as well, you know, and I'm not saying he would dump what he's doing now, but he's he's been he knows the club inside out. >> Yeah. The Sun online are reporting that Fabian Herzler, the Brighton manager, is the standout candidate to replace Michael Carrick. Well, >> you think you'd go there, Cass, though? Would you go from Brighton who are third playing well well supported by his club go to Man United? >> I think the low Manchester United is still there. >> Yes, I do. I do because every manager thinks I I'll get I'll get I'll get a tune out of them. >> Yeah, but one thing I would say Al how far can Bro can go this year? >> Oh, Brighton are very good. They're an exceptional side if they're all a manager and you're excited by what you've got and what you're putting out on the football pitch because I'm sure er is probably thinking because he's got a number of injuries as well by the way >> and I don't know as much as the lure of Manchester United or a big club any shape or form you're doing really well at that football club in in bron >> I don't think there'll be a lot between them come the end of the season Tom United getting relegated rubbish rubbish rubbish no I don't see that >> and I think come the end of the season there won't a lot between Brighton where they >> Oh, I'd have Bright and every dad awake in a minute. I really would. >> I'm sure. But I I think they'll be they'd be fairly close. >> Yeah. I think there comes a point where big club lure, but you also don't want to go to a mess. It's only been nine months or so since Amaran was sacked. So if you're Fabin Herzer and you're doing really well Brighton, very well. I'm not sure you get a big rise as well. >> You go there, you get, you know, and then money does come into it for these guys. >> Yeah, of course it does. But it's also the relationships you have. So if you're, you know, getting on really well with a sporting director or who whoever you need to, if if they have a great relationship, that can play a part as well. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> That's a cracking game, isn't it? Leads. >> Oh, cracker. Yeah, absolutely. >> Who you tipping, Al? >> Uh, >> who do you think? >> The way on form you'd say leads will win. >> Yeah, I I reckon it could be a score draw. >> If you don't match up to leads physically, they they'll get the better of you. And that's what Manchester United have to do. They can't be second best in any department against them. >> I've got lead friends. They are they are smelling blood. >> They are smelling sense it, can't you? >> They can't wait to get in that pub and then get down Ellen Road. Honestly, it's going to be great. Laura, thank you. >> Our next guest on his way to Campbell Heath Golf Club. Very nice for a fantastic event and this is great. It's the Justin Edinburgh Charity Golf Day. just in the Tottenham ledge. Tragically, I mean, it's shocking, died in 2019. Yeah. Following a cardiac arrest. His son Charlie does a fantastic job getting defibrillators into public life and helping to save so many lives. Well done, Charlie. Delighted we can bring in one of Justin's best friends, former Spurs striker, 1999 treble winner with Man United, Teddy Sharingham joins us. Teddy, morning. All right, >> good morning you two. How we doing? >> Oh, good, good, good. Ted, first of all, well done supporting a great event. This was tragic. Justin Edmund, what happened there? Horrible. I think he was on his way to the gym or something, wasn't he? >> I think I think he was actually in the gym. >> In the gym, >> Alan, um around the Champions League final when Tottenham were playing against Liverpool. >> Yeah. >> Um had a heart attack and there was no defibrillators to to revive him or to help him at the at the time. So Charlie does a great job now, his son, um getting out there and getting getting them wherever he can, you know, in sports halls and public places so that they're there to revive people when needed. >> And he's his dad, Ted, as you've said before, Justin, was a real character, wasn't he? >> He was a great lad. He was a he was a I would describe him as a proper left back. Uh wanted to hurt people in every challenge that he did, but lovely on the ball as well and great fun to be around. Yeah, top top man Justin. >> Yeah, >> Teddy, last night um incredible, wasn't it? For half an hour, for at least half an hour, uh PSG against City, PSG were just different class, weren't they? >> I I thought it was amazing game all over. Al, I thought I thought Yeah, PSG were absolutely phenomenal first half. Might have taken their foot off the pedal at Halime, but Man City did brilliant. Moresca making changes, putting on a little bit more legs. I thought um the lad that came on um what's his name? Uh >> Enjoy. >> Gone. >> Enjoy. >> No, not the other one. The one in midfield. >> The one in midfield. Uh the young lad. Anyway, he was fantastic. I thought he made a difference. >> Yeah. Baratti. >> Yeah. Batti. Batti. Yeah. Couldn't couldn't feel his name. Uh I thought he was fantastic. And Jai was very good as well. They was lively. They took the game back to him. Harland could have had four himself, couldn't he? So, um, you know, I thought it was a great game. Great game. >> Absolutely. Classic. Classic. Absolutely. And as you say, you did right. City I thought showed a lot of character Anfield as well. Look, we we don't know the ins and outs, Ted, what's going to happen, but it's not the players fault, is it? What's happened to Man City? We, you know, it's we've got to get the bottom of it, but not the the players. You can't take it away from them. You know, for 90 minutes, they're giving their all, aren't they? >> No, of course you can't. Of course you can't. Uh, they don't know what's going on behind the scenes. You never do when you're a footballer. You know, I get asked now about about what should happen and what not. It's like, well, footballers don't know. >> Yeah, >> footballers don't know. They just get on with their game. Uh they get paid to play football and that's what they do. So, um it's great to see them still playing at the top of their game, Man City. So, >> yeah, as well the team to beat. >> Oh, without a doubt. Without a doubt. Um a couple of our old clubs, Spurs, Man United, both struggling, aren't they? Really? You know, Tottenham played so well at Old Trafford, they just can't put the ball in the back of the net. And Manchester United are all sorts of problems there. >> Yeah, there was better signs from Tottenham the last couple of games. I think they they've looked lively, but you know, if you can't put the ball in the back of the net, they seem to have players that they've just released and gone to other clubs that are scoring goals quite quite frequently, which I can't believe you you'd like to have them in as a backup. if you even if you're not going to play them, you keep these players and um throw them on for the last 20 minutes and score some goals. But um Man United really struggling at the moment. Uh performance levels not great. Um but I think you got to give Michael Carrick time as well. I think he's a he's been a fantastic servant to Man United and he did so well last year. All right. He's going through a bad couple of months, but hopefully he'll turn it around as well. >> Yeah. Ted, I wanted to ask you because um Martinez and he's spoken and I was saying to Allan earlier and we were saying, you know, if you weren't playing as well and you're being outspoken and you say things that should be happening at the club upstairs, I'm thinking I can't imagine Fergie ever allowing any of this stuff going on. >> No. >> Oh no. He would have clamped down on it. Um I think I think Rooney came out with something, didn't he? >> Yeah. >> Similar. Sorry, we're losing Ted. If you can hear us, we're losing you, mate. Uh Ted, listen. Brilliant. I really, really appreciate coming on Campbell Heath Golf Club. Uh brilliant. Justin Edmund's charity golf day. So well done. And Charlie, your son, for organizing that. Have a great day, Teddy, if you're still hearing us. Uh I tell you who's perfect to ask about this Martinez thing is Graeme Sunnis who's coming up in about 10 minutes time, 15 minutes time because he wouldn't put up with >> I was going to say hazard a guess. What do you think he would, you know, react like to? >> Well, I think a player >> I think Graeme would have got a hold of him up against the wall and said, "Oh, sort your own game out first part." >> Yeah, there's a line in the sand on >> I do. I think I think Graeme would have said, "Sort just do what you're paid to do and never mind telling what the club should be doing." And by the way, you're not exactly man of the match every week at the moment. So, sort your own game out and keep out of politics up. >> I couldn't agree more. I might be wrong, but we we'll ask Graham, see what he says. But um it's just nonsense, honestly. And what a game coming up as well. The g the game away at Leads on Sunday. Oh, that is a real Yeah. >> Come on then. Stand up Manchester United. Let's see what you've got, isn't it? >> Do you know what I was I was at the Emirates against the Arsenal. >> We got Teddy back. Oh, he's back. >> Sorry Teddy, you're back there. Brilliant mate. Thank you. I'm just saying Graham Sun is coming up in a minute Teddy on Talk Sport and I'm I'm sure if he was manager and Martinez has come out that he'd have pinned him up against the wall, wouldn't he? >> Yeah, you'd like to see it, wouldn't you? And and Fergie was with the same ilk as well. So, um you know, you'd like to go back to those days, wouldn't you? And keep the boys in check. kind of people having outbursts like that. Not not against your own uh management, your own owners, you know, that's the writing's on the wall when that happens, isn't it? >> Yeah. Well, and Ted, it was such a good second part of the season for Ma Man Manchester United and Michael Carrick. The way they finished the season, the way they played, they made the Champions League. So, there was a lot of good things that happened last season. >> Yeah, there was, mate. There was. Um he he looked he looked like he was like the man to to take on to bigger and better things last year, didn't he? But um you have a bad four or five weeks in in Premier League football now and it's a real problem. >> Yeah, Teddy, just one last one, mate. I know you're driving. Um Manchester United have to go to Ellen Road. What is it like? I've only played for Ipsies there at Ellen Road, but Man United going there. This is their big big game, isn't it? Oh, it's a massive game for for leads. They make it a real um hostile environment. You go in and out a couple of D United. >> Ah, there you go. Ted, look, thank you for trying. Thanks for coming back to us. Absolutely brilliant. Bloody phones eh in the car. But is you know, >> Gordon McQueen used to tell me about it. Big Gordon, God bless. Yeah, >> Gordon used to talk about, you know, cuz he came from Joe Jordan came and Gordon as well, Gordon, I can play for both clubs. Um, he told me all about Oh, that's that's a big one. That is a big one. >> Yeah, cuz it's it is a they still got that oldfashioned feel, hasn't it, Al? You know, you go there and road is rocking and when it is, and it will be this weekend. And by the way, Man Manchester United better be there ready and prepared for a real real battle. >> Oh, they must be. They must be.
