"PLAYED OFF THE PARK!" Jason Cundy & Jermaine Pennant REACT to Man City 2-4 PSG!
talkSPORT on Man City 2-4 PSG: PSG dominate first half, City fight back after changes
The show reacts to Manchester City's 2-4 home defeat to PSG, with the host and City fans agreeing that PSG were on another level in the first half and look like Champions League favourites. City's second-half changes sparked a big response, but the callers still see issues with the starting line-up, defending and individual form.
- PSG proved why they have won back-to-back Champions Leagues and are a serious team — They blew Man City away in the first half and looked like defending European champions.
- The 3-0 half-time scoreline flattered Man City and PSG were on another level — PSG's right-back could have had a hat-trick and the score could have been bigger.
- PSG are the favourites for the Champions League and the team to beat — The holders are in great form, can rotate and still dominate Ligue 1, and deliver against the big teams.
- City got their starting line-up wrong, but the second-half changes turned the game and they could have won it — After the changes they were more balanced, hit the woodwork several times and tore PSG apart.
- Dias has lost a yard of pace and can get away with it in the Premier League but not in elite European games — He has had injuries in recent years and the pace issue is clear in top-level matches.
- Dias is only 29 and in his prime, so he should not have lost pace — At 29 he should still be at his physical peak.
- Bawaddy and Anderson are City's most solid midfield pairing with 11 men this season — Anderson does the dirty work and Bawaddy gives the Rodri-like control they have missed.
- The first half against PSG was a needed wake-up call because City have had it too easy in the Premier League — In the Premier League City can leak chances and still outscore teams, but PSG punished them.
- Substitutes can look bright partly because the opposition is tired, the game is more open and they are fresh — You cannot simply equate a substitute's impact with starting ability.
- City are leaking too many goals and it could become a season-long problem — They conceded three against Sunderland and four against PSG, and it could have been five.

The Premier League leaders against a European champions just for 90 minutes to get everything that is going on and make the most of it. Dewey with the shots! Oh, he squeezed it in from 20 55 yards out, it's chipped in towards Douay. He's got time to take a touch and then digs it in towards the far post and they've scored again. 2-0, Dembele coming onto the cross. It'll be three in a moment, they're bringing it forward again Zaire Emeru, the Laofetina in his street. Wow, this is a show, sorry Jeff, this is a show, unbelievable. Dembele in position on the right-hand side, he's worked it in towards Aklia, she's got a shot in on the turn. Great save from Donnarumma, can't keep it out now, it's 4-1, yeah. That's how you heard it live here on TalkSport. Yes, Manchester City was blown away in the first half. PSG showed exactly why they won the Champions League back-to-back. They are a serious football team. However, change was made in the second half. Resk deserves a little bit of credit, but he ballsed up in the first half. Manchester City got absolutely whooped in the first half but they showed what a side they are. Joanne Pennant is alongside me, Gemma good evening and welcome because we have less time I normally go how you doing Gemma what you've been up to? You've been cruising the world around Indonesia Joanne. Can't do that tonight. How are you? Straight into it. You well? Yeah I'm good. Let's talk about Men City matey. Good. I mean what did you say? Good. After what happened the weekend? Good. Good. A bit bitter still, are we? Yeah. Still carrying that bitter drink around. You know, 11 men, it was a tight game, probably Liverpool edged it. Did you enjoy City losing tonight? Oh loved it. Did you? Loved it. Okay fair enough Okay. Alright, anyway, let's crack on. So yeah, look man, first off what we need to remind ourselves is PSG are a serious team. Some men City by the way, that was, I did not see that game at 45 minutes Gemma, I'm going, I'm looking at you going, what are we watching? What are we watching? And by the way, it flattered Man City at half time. That 3-0 scoreline, Hakimi could have had a hat trick and he's right back. The way they've started this season, yes you wouldn't have envisioned that scoreline especially at half time. PSG was on the next level. It just goes to show how good PSG are. Back-to-back championship winners and you have to say at the moment, are they favourites for a third? Well, you've got to say they have to be right when the holders go into it in this sort of form. And it's amazing Manchester City had a Let's be honest, it's a tough game. OK, Liverpool went down 10 men. But it's amazing how they can rotate their squad depending on who they're playing PSG. Dembele started 11 Ligue 1 games last season for side is that that's why people call it the Farmers League because you can play a Ballon d'Or winner, start 11 games and still run away with the league. That's why people call it the Farmers League. You're not getting away with that in the Premier League. You have to play your best players week in, week out. Doesn't matter who you play but saying that they come up against the big boys and they show that they are the big boys. They put in a stellar performances and their back-to-back rightly so Champions League winners. And yeah, they go into this tournament as favourites as well. They're the team to beat. But to score four and by say it should have been five because franchise missed the absolute shocking penalty. It could have been five at a half time jammer. Forget that. Forget that. Forget the pen. This was a... But City had chances as well. Look, it was one of those games you're talking about two serious football teams here, two brilliant teams. But PSG tonight in that first half took the game away from City. And that is what it's like when City play teams. City done that to your mob at the weekend. Within six minutes, there's a red card and two goals. The game's taken away. PSG done that to City tonight. They did that with 11 men. And they did it to City in the first half. Let that one go, Gemma. I can't. I can't. I can't let it go. I can't and I'm not going to let it go for a long time. I'm not going to let it go. You know, there's no need for it. Anyway, let's move on and talk about it's a red card for Ryan Gravenberg. That's the thing. Let's move on. Let's go to the lines without any further ado. 0-3-7-1-7-double-2-double-3-double-4. Aston Villa fans, by the way, have you been at that game tonight? Wow. Man City fans, what have you seen tonight? And also we're going to touch on West Ham 6-0 against the Imps up the Imps even though they went down nine man the Imps and that game was probably taken away from them early on in that particular fix. Let's go speak to Big Al as a Men's City fan. All right, Al, welcome to the show. Good evening, gentlemen. And I'm AT. Good evening, good evening. Were you at the game? We at the game. I've just left, yet he had me in my life and that is one of the most bonkers game of footballs I've ever seen. I've walked out lost and been thoroughly entertained and it's not often you watch your team lose. That first goal off PSG, I just had to clap it. It's probably one of the best team goals I've seen scored against us. They were pass, pass, pass and it's in the back of the net. Do you know when you're 3-0 down at half time and the game sometimes and you hear people booing. No one in the SC had, everyone realised what a special outfit we had in front of us. Now Moreska made mistakes in the starting line-up. I get why he started it and he changed it. Buadet, what a Rolls-Royce of a player. When he came on second half and they put Nunes back to right-back and then Daye on for Doku, it completely turned the game. PSG won right there. City could have won that game tonight in the second half. I lost count the amount of times we hit the bar, at the post and we tore that PSG team apart second half. I don't think many other teams in Europe will have that many chances against Paris, because they are a solid defensive team. But listen, at the end of the day, that 20 minutes, that football that they played, sometimes as a fan, you've just got to sit there and admire when you see brilliance. And that was just another level of football. Do you think the second half, it was more down to Man City making the changes? Or do you really believe going in 3-0 that it was more PSG probably taking their foot off the pedal and then obviously getting shell-shocked with the start that City had? I think it was the changes to be honest with you. Because Ryan Cherky was brilliant at weekend, and Doc who was brilliant when he came in. And what's it called, Doc who was brilliant when he came on. But both of them, when you're playing this Parish team, every single player they have works. And I think when it's not going your way sometimes with Cherky, it doesn't put that work in. Doc who doesn't track back, one city addressed that and they've got the balance of Kushinov, Kushinov's not a right-back, he's our best and I also think there's a slight Diaz has lost a yard of pace and I think he gets away with it in the Premier League but I think in them elite games it's just clear to see and when he made the changes, see I've come out of that game and I am excited for the rest of the season because I'm like, Maresco will have learnt a lot tonight from them mistakes i can tell by your voice i've never heard anyone so excited after getting pumped in the champions league no you poor diaz is only 29. you don't lose pace he's in his prime yeah but he's had injuries the last couple of years and it just seems to not have that yard of pace that he used to have now you mentioned bawaddy i'm going to go and speak to jack who's also a man city fan that's also dialled oh three seven one seven double two double three uh double four jack good evening welcome to the show bawaddy discuss i thought second half he was probably the best player pitch i agree with you completely he was i think him and anderson together i think that's the most solid we've looked to midfield with a with 11 men on the pitch or black all season fair probably for a couple seasons now i think anderson's at workhorse but why do you bring the control that that Rodri had and together they just they fill that gap that Rodri left he was amazing second half, I agree with Al Cusenho's not a right back, Immingay at centre back is a lot more solid than Diaz and Guy and our second half I think the first half is exactly what we needed this season until the game's been turned on it said we've not looked that threatening when we've gone down to 10 or like when Liverpool went down to 10 we take the games to team and when we took it to PSG that second half we've shown why we are one of the best teams in the world. So let me ask you a question here right sorry gentlemen let me ask a question your best 11 now based on what you've just said with Bawaddy and Anderson where does Enzo Fernandes fit into that? he played in that second half against better teams Where's Cherokee playing? Exactly as I've said I don't think Cherokee when we're up against it as good as Cherokee is and as good as you was against United and Liverpool and the, you know, the, well, he wasn't going to be against United, but at Liverpool, you know, when we're in the ascendancy, he's the man. But when we're against it, like we are against PSG, I think we need Enzo, Bwadi and Anderson to lock down that midfield which is exactly what we did in that second half. I get that but you're also taking away your firepower. He's the guy that creates anything out of nothing. Is it horse over courses, Gemma? Do you think going... I think you need a good balance. You can say that, though. We scored two goals second half and take you in off the pitch. No, it's fair. I'm saying not every game is a player going to be firing on all cylinders and be setting up goals in here and there. So yeah, maybe to bring him off was probably a right decision. But not to say not to start him is not the strongest side is a bit... Isn't it amazing though? You're talking about who plays where, who starts, who's on the bench. That is the brilliance of Man City. The fact that we can have this conversation, who does that? Who plays? A lot of teams pretty much pick themselves, you know? And this City squad, I'm looking at City's bench today that the subs he made. He bought in Bawadi. 85 million? I mean, he bought in Rico Lewis there. He's still got Nunes who he bought in. I mean, you don't even mention Foden. Ain't Norrie. I mean, there's a lot of quality on there. But that's what you do when you've got that deep squad that's there to go and take on them. A PSG side absolutely threw them to the ground in that first half chat. Thanks for the call. Let's continue to get the calls. Harrison's dialed 03717 2233 double Harrison Men's City van. Welcome. I respect the show. For me, the first half was what we needed. I think in the Premier League, we've had it a little bit easy. We've leaked chances like Brian probably got hat-trick at the Etihad and we had the firepower to beat him. And I think in the first half, I was sat well up in the cap stand. I was watching it man to man and I just thought we're getting mouldy. At 3-0 I thought we were under the cosh. A lot of people are saying they're one of the best teams in the world. People are forgetting that Enzo Mareska has had 10 games with his squad. He's not had the chance to actually experiment things. Look I'll lean into that yeah when bloody Kwan he looked good and for me I think Enzo Menyo is a bit of a problem. I don't know what you two think about that but I think he can be quite wasteful. Do you think he flatters at times to deceive do you think there's that he gets into those areas. He's always gonna get them goals boy. He's always gonna get them goals boy. I just think when he gets the ball he's a bit stagnant and for me when he came on. The thing is that I know we're judging judging Semenya and then we see the players coming on. But when these players come on, that's what they're coming onto to make an impact. And the reason why they're making an impact is because the opposition is tired. The game's more spread. It's more easy to play um so he's i get where you're watching it you understand but there's a reason why these players are shining because they're fresh they've not been running around for 60 minutes they're fresh players there are factors to it there was yeah the fact is what you're I agree with that. Yeah, so when we're saying, you know, he made a big difference. Well, because he's fresher for starters, he's not being chased. But Jamil, listen, you would have been in this situation as a wide player, right? You'd have started the game, you'd get taken off. You'd also come on, because that's what Apple Connectman a wide player but when you come on as a wide player and the game's not going your way this is your chance to shine and then Dai did that that's one thing you cannot deny he had a massive impact on the game 100 % and that's why you're brought on and sometimes you know they play you you're replacing he's done the hard work for you right okay he's softened him up he's grinded down that left back or that right back okay and now you're coming out there just go right there you go soften him up go on jammer where you go and then you never admit that though do you take the glory no you come in there think i'll be in the man by the way we see what i did sick it off but but that's what you know substitutions are for the manager goes right come come on, now you've got the legs, you've got the energy, give us a bit. And also Manchester City had to be better second half. They couldn't be as passive as they were even though they had chances. Up next one here from you Man City fans. I've got played off the park even for most of that first half and actually for large parts of the game. 0-3-7-1-7, double-two, double-three, double-four. It's a sports bar for a third one of the week, Dwayne Pellet and me, Jason kind of taking your calls after Manchester City were humbled at home at 4-2 by PSG. Aston Villa went your calls as well, by the way, 6-0 at home to Ferro Maciej. Unbelievable Three, double, four. Let's go and speak to... Who's it? Atch? Atch? Is it Atch, mate? Yeah, it's Atch. Hey up the boys. How are you? What's your name? Was it Atch? Atch, yeah. Atch. All right, Atch. Men's City event. You at the game? Yeah, I was at the game. You know what, I've got to tell you boys, honestly, PSG first off, absolutely top. There's football they played like I agree with the others. You You know, I had to clap it on top football. You know, Mureska, you know, with the line-up, it was a bit iffy at the start. I thought it looked all right until it started playing and then obviously he probably felt the same. Honestly, I'm proud of City if I'm honest. I thought it was very positive. Donnarumma could have done a bit better. I think we got a bit unlucky with the chances. as he made Pep wouldn't have done that at half times you know what I mean he would have let the game say out Marista's better than Pep no I'm not saying that definitely not yet too early yeah but um yeah the other thing I'm glad the last person touched on was Semenyo. Honestly, sometimes I think he looks like a right donkey. But he produces chances. But sometimes, honestly, that end product and the misplaced passing and stuff it's just it's frustrating but I think a lot of positives from the second half first half hats off to PSG but I think we got a bit unlucky what do you think about the memorable? So, I think he's a great player. I think he's fantastic. And since he joined you guys, I think he's been really good if you look at his numbers. And he works hard and does a lot for the team. But I want to ask you though, are you concerned of how many goals Man City do leak at the moment, especially at home? You know, three against Sunderland. Now four could have been five against PSG. If you continue on that trajectory throughout the season, that could be problematic. They conceded at the weekend though, Jim. We're just checking the results. Yeah, that's because we are 10 men and we've got Rob. It's a red card for Ryan Grabberkart. You would have conceded though they would have conceded if it was 11 but we'll move on to that one it's a red card for ryan grabbing butt all right all right all right here we are all right there's enough of that now okay i'll tell you what honestly with the conceding yeah it's a bit of a problem but you know mareska's just come in he's getting the defensive back line going um personally i think it's got to be kusanov at center back i like kusanov and um gay at center back i think that changed the game massively and nunez on the right on his day i think he's an unbelievable right back uh guardi all as well like when he when he's on on his day he's top um but like i said at the start diaz you know um i didn't think he played the best i didn't think kusano played the best on the right either uh so we was leaking and it was obvious as well and i think midfield was an issue as well i don't i don't know if i'm a massive fan of enzo fernandez and anderson and jerky on the pitch um against you know the elite teams i think it's who are you dropping out of one of those three then it's a difficult one i feel like jerky has to be on the pitch because he's an unbelievable player. But I feel like sometimes potentially to kill the game off a bit, well not kill the game off, but the start of the game's first 70 minutes depending on how we're doing i think duardi enzo and anderson would be good to start and then jerky to come and finish it off because he can do that and when they're tired you know it could be proven but it's hard not to start him it's a difficult one ask your superstar appreciate the call buddy uh keep
