"CAN'T WAIT FOREVER!" talkSPORT REACT to Jamie Carragher's SCATHING review of Florian Wirtz!
talkSPORT discuss Florian Wirtz's Liverpool struggles, Man City's response to noise and charges, and Man United's defence and outlook
The show reviews Florian Wirtz's poor start at Liverpool, with Troy Deeney calling him a £135m problem and the hosts suggesting he may need a break from the starting XI. It then discusses how Man City are handling outside noise, Elliot Anderson's midfield display, the charges facing City, and Man United's defensive and recruitment problems.
- Wirtz is Liverpool's £135m problem and cannot affect games at all right now — In one break he shot wide when he could have played in a better-placed team-mate on the left; he is trying too hard, overcomplicating things and failing to make simple passes.
- Liverpool have spent a lot but their midfield is still light and the squad balance is wrong — Once three players are injured the whole squad looks short; you cannot lose three players and expect everything to be fine.
- Wirtz should be taken out of the starting XI for a while and used from the bench — His confidence looks shot and he lacks the power or strength to resist challenges or beat anyone; keeping him in could destroy him, so short cameos once injured players return may help.
- The players must learn to deal with outside noise and answer it by winning games — The noise is real and denying it would be untrue; their duty is to win games in the way they want.
- Man City handled the noise and pressure well after the red card, and players just need to focus on the pitch — With the 115 charges and other off-field noise, they may be booed every week; City proved they can handle it, being excellent after the sending-off and scoring sensational goals.
- Elliot Anderson was the best player on the pitch and ran the game like a quarterback — He dictated everything from start to finish, was outstanding and even impressed the Man City players; after Rodri left, he settled in immediately.
- He is not sure Man City will win their appeal against the charges and expects punishment somewhere down the line — There could be a points deduction and possible consequences in Europe; although the club and manager seem confident, he personally does not share that confidence.
- Man United's defending for the goal was shocking, especially from an experienced defender like Martinez — This has been happening all season; teams run them into the ground every week and they looked nervy at home against City and Spurs.
- Man United's failure to sign defenders in the summer is a clear problem, and he worries Michael was not backed enough — Everyone knew they needed defenders but they only bought midfielders; if the manager lacked the authority to demand reinforcements, the problems will continue.
- He cannot see enough improvement in the Man United squad or team and predicts a bang-average season — All the indications are that there will be no dramatic change; they look like a mid-table Premier League side.

We continue to review what happened on and off the pitch yesterday. Anfield and one man who is making the headlines this morning for the wrong reasons is Florian V. >> Yeah. What's happening with him? >> Oh man, I I I don't know mate. He just can't seem to affect a game at all, can he? >> He can't, mate. In the Premier League all access podcast, former striker Troy Deini takes shame at Liverpool's faltering number 10. >> They've got the the 135 million problem which is flowing. Like I just did a piece here out in New York. There's a moment, I don't know if you guys remember this, they break away, get to the edge of the box. It's Vert and he he shoots and puts it wide. But he's got Barcode to his left. He's got Kirk screaming down the left hand side >> because he's he's got I feel like he's got to a place now where he's trying so hard so hard to make it work >> that you're looking at players and and he's losing them by the second. losing players because that's a simple pass where you just fire that to Barcoli say go on then son go and get out in 1 v one or allow Kirkus to get Ra we get a better shot you talk about Barcola they're not giving him the platform at PSG we saw how brilliant he was when you give him the platform dominate the ball get in one v one he's very hardly one v one because it's so slow it's so passive all that money spent and that midfield is still light we we're talking about three players injured now they're great players don't get me You can't lose three players and your whole squad is gone. The balance is wrong. >> You say the balance is wrong. >> I remember that situation what Troy was talking about. Kirk has Kirk has a wrong >> sprinted forward from the halfway line really to get up there alongside him when Vertz was on the edge of the box and uh and he's right. He did have Barker and Kirk as he could have rolled it to try to take the shot. Listen, everything he's doing it's not happening. It's not happening. And and it's it's bizarre because you look I mean there's a clearly understandably there's a talent there. There's a real real talent. I watched a couple of games you know the Forest game >> Yeah. >> where I thought Forest played really really well >> and they they crammed the space and there wasn't any gaps for him and I think he's he's suffering a little bit from that. But against City who are not open but they'll have a go at you. That's the kind of game actually >> I think I'm looking to see them more. Yeah, >> you know, I can understand playing against Forest who who were brilliant defensively in their unit tight no but in a game against Force against City where they will open up and have a go. >> I'm expecting him to find pockets. >> Do you think he's got to come out now? Do you think they're getting to the point now where you think you need come? >> Well, he probably can't due to numbers at the this moment time. >> That's true. >> But I take your point I I >> cuz I was looking at Enamar on the bench yesterday. I'm thinking get the kid on. Get the get him on because now as it as it in in the respect. He'll go and take somebody on and buy something, something will happen. >> He gives people a bit of a lift sometimes when you've got a player like that. Whereas at the moment for Florian Vertz, every time he gets it, he doesn't look like he's got the power, the strength to kind of resist a challenge or or get beyond anybody. He just can't seem to find his shoulder. And look, every single one of us who've played this game, and we all know how easy it is to spout off about it, you know, we've made a we've made a living at you and I, we've all been in that scenario when confidence has shot and it's gone. >> And it's and it looks like that, mate, doesn't it? It really does. It looks like it. So maybe maybe that if and I don't know how long Shabbos and and and Gako and he's out are going to be >> or you want but if you get if if two out of them three come back Ali for the next one maybe you might be doing him a bit of favor just to take him out take him out for a bit because that that's always been the the way to do it you know you're not you're not you don't want to you don't want to destroy the boy you want to you want to give him a little bit more time maybe come and have 10 minutes here and there and then when you go back in who knows results might be better and he just might be in a little bit of a better space but at the minute he's just fighting with his game and it's not working. a test and what doesn't help him as well and you look at similar money spent on somebody like Anderson I mean completely different players I think that playing the same kind of area as a pitch >> I I just thought Anderson was absolutely brilliant different level history it was a different level >> Bradley Barker look he's not been at the club for for for that long again >> I always felt with him that it's clearly an exceptional talent unbelievably quick end product it's it's whether or not he's going to have that real end product in his game now again um give him a bit of time uh to uh to to to to adjust to life here in this country and playing in Liverpool and and playing in Premier League football. Clearly a talented boy, but they've got to step up. Can't wait forever. >> City boss Angelo Moresca has called for the players to ignore the noise. >> Exactly. Exactly. Again the my message uh since we have been together 3 days ago when they come back from the international team has been quite clear guys the noise will be there because if I say no the noise is not there is not true the noise will be there so it's how we learn to deal with the noise but at the same time it's our duty to make our noise and our noise is to win games in the way we want today and be happy at the end of the game. I think he's spot on. I think the noise is there and I think the noise will continue. >> Of course, it's it's going to get louder the noise. >> Delight to see join us now. Talks with Manchester correspondent Mickey Grey. Mickey, good morning mate. >> Morning mate. >> Go see Andy. Good morning to you. How you doing? >> We're in chop form pal. Chop form. Well, I'll tell you the one thing you got to say after the sending off city had they didn't half handle the noise well, didn't they? >> Yeah, they did. Um I think a few people have asked me Coy about how the players would react, you know, because of what's happened with the 115 charges and stuff. And I said, um, as a player, if it would have been myself, I'd have just went on to the pitch and just concentrated on what's in front of me. And I think that's what they're going to have to do every single week, whether they get booed, jered, >> but we showed yesterday that they can handle it. And um, after the sending off, they were absolutely fantastic. I mean, the goals they scored >> were just sensational. And Churkeyy's goal was just uh, it was very special, weren't it? >> Yeah, very very good. And uh and look Liverpool the start of the second half Mick they start they put their foot to the floor and and they had a couple of chances that Kumas strike that Donnaruma saved well um you know again they withtood that I thought Elliot Anderson's performance was tremendous I I look Graber played very well as well for Liverpool but Elliot Anderson I thought was the best player on the field >> yeah he was he was like a quarterback wasn't he throughout the whole of the game the way he just dictated everything and I think that was um a little bit of a concern when when obviously Rod Rodri left in the in the summer, but Elliot Anderson's came in and he's he's took to City like a duck to water. I mean, some of the performances have been outstanding and I think he's even impressed the Man City players as well. Um, just what he's achieving every single week and >> he ran the show from start to finish. You're right about Grain Burch until the sending off. He played very well. I thought Liverpool played very well actually until the sending off. But, um, Ellie Anderson was the standout player yesterday from start to finish. He was brilliant. But what a win going to Anfield under their circumstances and and picking up another three points. What a start from for Moresca as well as city manager. >> Yeah, Mete Andy makes a good point it because sometimes you get down to 10 men you can find it difficult to play against. However, City actually just played it perfectly. Bit of width they made the change do comes on and and I in agreement I thought you know the goal itself was absolutely terrific but what a performance from him. Maybe Man United could take a leaf out the boot ky because they can't seem to be playing against ter. Yeah, they were they were brilliant. I mean, they just pinned Liverpool back and they were just clinical. I think when the chances came around, obviously Harland, I mean, it's a super finish from him as well, but um that's how you play against 10 men. You use that advantage, you get in those wide areas and you make things happen. Um they they were brilliant. I mean, look, it's going to be interesting, isn't it? They keep on winning, get the end of the season, if they actually get handed that trophy. We don't know what's going to happen. It's a long way away, but um they certainly dealt with it yesterday. >> Yeah, Mick. Um Enzo Moresca was talking about the you know, they'll talk about everything in more detail when they win the appeal. Um what are you hearing from the club? Look, in that respect and how confident they are. >> Well, I was actually I went to the press conference, Andy, on uh on Friday and uh he was upbeat. He was confident. I thought he dealt with the the questions that were thrown at him really really well. He seems confident that um they're going to win these charges. Um I'm not too sure myself. I think there's there's going to be uh there's going to be payback somewhere down the line, whether it's point deduction, you know, um I don't know what's going to happen in Europe as well moving forward. Certainly something's going to happen for them. But I think from a player side of things, they're just confident and just going to get on with things um week by week. It's going to be difficult. that we know away from home. But I think if that was a message from everybody yesterday, then every single week the more you boo them, the better they're going to get. >> They were different class. M I want to go across the city if I may. United I only saw the highlights m but from what we hear and what I'm reading first half really really poor and then obviously sending off for Chottenham but I thought the level of defending for Salanki's goal who takes it very very well was shocking me >> and from probably the most experienced defender as well Kisty and Lzandro Martinez as well. I mean, it's been like that throughout the whole of the season. I don't know where it's come from. Um, look, they only played 40 games last season, so they can't have any excuse of being tired, but every single team they play against every week are running them into the ground. Um, they look a little bit nervy, certainly at home as well in those last two games at home against City and Spurs. Um, but you can't defend like that. I mean, they've just been really poor. They've not got going yet. Um, I don't know what the the answer is. Everybody knew they needed defenders in the summer. they didn't go and get any. Um whether Michael wasn't backed enough, maybe he didn't have that authority to go to the owners to say, "Look, I need defenders. They didn't put their hand in the pocket. Yes, they they bought midfield players." But um there's concerns there again. Um I I worry for Michael over the next couple of weeks. I mean, they've got they've got a real game against Madrid as well tomorrow as well, so it's not going to get any easier for them. And I just don't know what the answer is. >> Tell you, time will tell. I think I actually fear I don't see I don't see I don't see enough improvement in that squad or in that team to make a dramatic change. I just all the indications are it's just going to be a bang average season. >> Yeah, it looks that way. Um I don't know whether they're trying to put all their eggs in one basket in in European football, but that's the wrong thing to do for United. But the forward players have got to start running a bit more. They've got to start scoring goals and they've got to keep Cesco fit and play him every week because I don't know what's the matter with him at the moment. Um, they spent a lot of money on him, but since he's come through the door, I think he looks better when he comes off the bench and that's that's not good enough. >> I think that's a good point, Mick. I think the front boys, you got to you got to ask them to step up. They got very good players in those positions and they got to be doing a little bit more. So, I think you're spot on there.
