Yes, Carrick will be charged for the game against Bourne despite recent results. Bruno Fernandez will not be stripped of his captaincy or disciplined for his criticism of his manager's tactics. We can actually hear from the United boss ahead of Sunday's game. He was asked if he fears being the latest Man United manager to lose his job. >> I certainly don't fear it. No. Um not at all. I understand what we could what we can achieve. Um, I know what it needs to look like to to to get to the stage where um you're winning enough football games to get through that spell as well. And um but principles um values are are so so important to the football club to definitely to me. Um we can win games, we can we can lose games, maybe hopefully not, but at some point we're going to do it. Um it's how you do it a little bit and what and what it feels like is important. Um, and that spirit, that unity, that togetherness, um, needs to be there and it it it is there and it will be there. I'll make sure it's there anyway. So, um, I'm just looking for the solutions to to move us forward. That's plain and simple as that. >> Before we talk about whether or not you think he'll last or he's the right man, uh, sometimes in football things happen. You look back at Rafa Bonitez with the fact, you look back at Kevin Keagan. I would love it if and there sort of not defining moments but you sort of look back and go that's where they broke or that's where the beginning started of the end. He obviously started that press conference with a five and a half minute not rant but just a statement if you like. What what did you make of that that he came out sat down and addressed the waiting press with his view of events his view of what Man United should be etc. What did you make of that? Well, first and foremost, you want to know if it's come from him or has it come from the hierarchy or people above him and said, "Right, you need to read this." My issue on on that is is you are the manager. The buck stops with you. Of course, it does. But also, you're in in charge of the dressing room. So, when you've got players coming out and saying stuff like that, that's a knock-on effect of why you now need to make a statement. And if I'm in the dress room listening to that, I'm just thinking, "This is Manchester United. This is a club I play for, and this is a circus." you've been in that I haven't. You maybe can read into stories because you've been in similar situations. If you were a player in that dress in the Man United dressing room and you saw your manager come out and and address the press like that, would you think it's gone horrifically wrong? Has he do you look from the outside in thinking he's already lost the dressing room? >> Yeah, that that's a groundhog day. That is just another manager, another domino's going to go. That's how I look at that. He's come out and said that statement for what, five and a half, six minutes off that and it's like he'll just be another one gone now. What I'll be interested to ask my co of him to say because he said about I know where this club needs to be. I know where the dress room needs to be. How it is what he actually thinks the difference is between his time as a player >> to what it is now and how far apart they are. We can say the results. We can say about the results >> but just the club >> the club part the on the pitch stuff. I'm just saying off the field the dressing room the hierarchy the coaching staff the where's the difference? I would say there's not one similarity, >> but there's got to be >> only in name, >> but there's got to be so many differences because Manchester United at the moment looks so far apart from where they once was. And this is the issue that everybody associated to Manchester United go on about the good old days, Fergie days, etc. Why wouldn't you? But what I'm saying is where's the differences then? What's happened? Because we can't just say one man, one man controlled everything and he's the one that made everything glow. Now you got to look at it and go, "Okay, well what else has happened for this travesty almost to happen for Manchester United?" Because it is. I grew up as Manchester United winning everything. It's horrible for Liverpool fan. But now kids are growing up and see Manchester United >> mid tail. >> Did they used to win? Did they used to dominate? >> It's not just that. We're seeing over the last what seven maybe eight, nine days, we're seeing a capitulation from inside out. So by that I mean Martinez coming out and saying and and the latest is Bruno Fernandez almost throwing the manager under the bus. Do you think Michael Car is right to keep Bruno as captain? >> Two ways that I listen there's having a frustration about what's going on in the game. What prime example me saying regarding the referee when I was about V. That's one thing. >> Is that Park Life? >> That's what Yes. >> I don't know if we've got that park life one play. >> Look Ryan's too busy drinking. Look >> but that was that was on about the referee, right? not direct at the manager or any individual player in >> now when you do that that's a different that's different conversation >> you go for the manager >> yes but then last week we had Martinez uh mention about the board >> now you're going what's going on in this dressing room what is going on how are we picking out if I'm Michael Carrick and the captain is coming out saying that about my tactics now now we've got a problem >> that relationship is fractured right >> yes what I would like to see as much as we can say yeah look we're not taking the captaincy off him fine would you pick him on on Sunday because what I see >> I wouldn't person >> no because what I see the other night against Ko not for me that's not a captain and also the knock on effect is what we're hearing is he's not going to lose his captaincy and he's not going to be fined by the club but Martinez got fined so now he's going to be looking across the dress room going hang on a minute why am I get fined hund h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h h hundreds of thousands and Bruno hasn't. Why? Where's the >> where's the consistency >> consistency going on? cuz I'm looking across the dress room going you've just said the same as me. >> Are you saying that creates a divide amongst the players? >> Yeah, of course it does. I I've said exactly the same as you but to the board and the hierarchy and you've said it towards the manager almost the manager's worse because the manager picks you at the weekend sets the tactics. People in the board don't >> so for me it's worse. >> Why in this situ United have got some decent young talent coming through as a kid who's been on the bench quite often. and he's played a handful of games if that Shay Lacy I think is a wonderful player. Plays that in the right cuts scene. Looks really good. Why in situations like this if a manager thinks his time might be coming to an end? >> Why would they not pick the youngsters to come to for almost two reasons? One >> to make a point. >> One, I'm going to prove a point. Right, Bruno, you don't talk to me like that. I'm not having it. Out you go. I'll bring in this young 19year-old, right? He can impress. If you if you're 19, you're chomping at the bit. Let me have a go. You're going to I'm guessing you're going to try your absolute backside off. If you can't, if you're a 19-year-old at Manchester United now, you're having conversations with your friends, with your family, with your agents, get me in there. Get me in there. >> Not pick the likes of a Shay Le. >> It's Manchester United, unfortunately. And you've got to be a brave person, brave manager to make that decision. Now, is that a reset? What Manchester United need? I think it is. Get away from these because we talk about it, right? A manager keeps going, comes in, next one does well, sacked, next one sacked. But the players still stay the same. They're signing players on fiveyear deals. New manager, do you think new manager comes in every what 18 months? Well, they're not going anywhere. Same repercussions. >> Look at the back 40. >> So, get rid of them and just go build it away. I'm not saying go down the class of 92 route, but even if that is the case, right? And I'm not saying it's going to get them back to where Manchester United was, but that's a starting point >> because at least you've got something where you go, well, we're playing the kids and we're bringing the academy through. At the moment, you've got players in there that are not worthy to wear the shirt. >> Give me a name of who you think should be next. Eddie how Eddie how is the standout? I get all this talk that's coming out with Antonio Conte. Are you would you be excited about Eddie How would >> Would Manchester United fans be excited for Conte coming in and this is >> people are saying a short term is a good fix but he's coming in for a longer Eddie how is a perfect choice? >> I agree. >> He's the perfect choice and he needs time. >> Of course he does because Manchester United >> are not a quick fix. >> That is a long-term project now for Manchester United. 5 years minimum. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And then what do you think? What's your thoughts on this as a Man United fan when they come out and ask for a survey regarding the stadium? >> What you mean ask for a survey? >> Was it that they're going to ask the fans regarding the >> Oh, I see. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The new one. >> Yeah. Isn't there bigger things to deal with at the moment? >> Alex C made a very good point. I've said it before. He made a very I think it was this morning saying we don't want a 100,000 seat. Use that money. Invest it in the squad. Fix the current stadium. We love the current. Fix the roof, right? Get rid of the rats or whatever. Yeah. and use that money to make the team better. I think every Man United fan on the planet wants that. >> So, what are they trying to prove on on that point? I don't Manchester United I think the hardest bit is for what they've done for their history, they are arguably one of the biggest clubs in world football, but at the moment they are far from that. >> Last question. We'll take calls on the back of this in just a moment. Is Sunday make or break for car? If they lose or draw at home to Bournemouth, is that it? >> Yes, it has to be. >> Okay. Uh we got lots coming up between now and 7 on with the wonderful Charlie Austin, but you can have your say by picking up the phone 03717234. Um how big is Sunday for the manager Michael Carrick? Uh just quickly, Antonio Conte has said that he is not in advance negotiations with any club in response to reports that he's held talks with Manchester United. Good. We're taking all your calls on Manchester United. Carrick, how big Sunday should Bruno be dropped, etc. Ben is a Man United fan. Benjamin, good afternoon to you. Hello B. >> Afternoon Andy. Afternoon Charlie. >> How are you, man? >> Yeah. Well, as good as you can be as a Man United fan. Um, >> go on. >> So, I just wanted to say like we've been through this cycle with Man United many, many times before. It doesn't matter who the manager is >> because we went through with Rangnik and Martial coming out on social media and and slagging the club off. And if it unfortunately we are at the point now where Michael Carrick it is beyond repair because of Martinez and Bruno coming out with the ultimate petulence. But if we are going to go for Eddie how the club and the fans and I mean the fans have to back the manager and start turning on some of these players who are not putting the performances in. And if they're late for training, if they're coming out and speaking out against the club outside of the dressing room, it needs to be it doesn't matter how good you are, we will play the youngsters >> because we're setting the wrong standard every single time by letting this stuff slide. >> Yeah, Ben, I was going to ask you, would you strip it right back and go to the academy and play the youngsters? But the fact you support Manchester United and you've just come out saying we need a manager that's going to find players if they are late for training, that's a non-negotiable. That's that shouldn't be that that that's a non-negotiable as it is. That's respect to your own that's to your teammates to your dressing room not only to the manager but I just feel now Manchester United would and would you be okay with that Ben if you're saying about patience would you have patience if let's just say the next manager come in and said right I'm just going to play the academy kids >> 100% because what what's the difference in having all these wannabe superstars who don't perform and who've got terrible attitudes and bring the club into disrepute and still winning to let's invest in the kids and do you know what if we don't win anything for two or three years but we see the next version of the class of 92 where we take that risk we're not going to get relegated you know but we are very close to becoming the spurs of the north >> we're becoming a club that is just based on revenue with nothing to back it up >> yeah I hear what you're saying I I would like thanks for the call by the way Ben I would like to see I I don't know what's going on away from the field but the JJ Gabriel scenario he's obviously is a talented kid, right? But there's obviously problems around whoever looks after him. >> But you know, that's the type of player. He's 15. Give him 15 minutes here. Give him 15. Integrate him slowly into the first team. >> Well, there's a team in North London doing that with Max Dman. >> Yeah, exactly. >> So, if he's as good as what people are saying, >> why are they not putting in? Cuz Arsenal getting all the credits and pats on the backet for throwing him in. Y >> and look at the talents we've seen now. So, if JJ Gabriel is as good as what we're hearing, why are we not seeing it? Uh, >> let's go George also Man United fan. Georgie, good afternoon to you. Happy Friday. Yeah, good afternoon. What a happy Friday. Apart >> away from football. Away from football. Happy Friday. >> Yes, thank you very much. Because I've just been for Friday prayers. >> Oh, okay. I hope they're answered this weekend. I hope they were loud. >> Well, let's hope so. Well, my point was that look, a manager's rant and others rant and rage. Okay, this one doesn't rant and rage. But what is in his power is that he can replace any player he wants. And with these two guys coming out and him finding Martinez and letting Bruno go probably, I will drop Bruno. And I would also drop three or four others and let the reserves in. What has he got to lose now? He's a you know, you've come up with this storm thing and just now between the two of you. Uh make up one for Carrick walking the plank or something because he's a he's a dead man walking, isn't he? At the moment as it is as it is. What has he got to lose? He's got to bring in some reserve players. He's got to bring some discipline. I'm with George like >> I'm with George a little bit on this right >> on the point of >> and them two players Martinez and Fernandez Martin's come out and spoke like he did and then played the next game >> Fernandez we expect to play the next game outside in he's probably not lovely straight away I just think weak manager if I was in dress for him weak manager >> yeah you cross me you're done >> weak manager I know you're you're the captain of Manchester United you're meant to be my captain to go to war toeto toe for me and you come out and speak like that. But I know you're not going to do nothing weak manager. >> But the the I agree with everything you're saying, but the problem he's got is defensively we don't have that great depth in the squad. >> You know, you've got what about the academy? >> No, I I'm I agree with you. But if your job's on the line, you want to effectively pick the strongest possible back four, right? >> But then you're saying that if your job's on the line, I >> But are them players that back four, are they what you want to >> No, they're not. >> So you're cutting off your nose to your face, right? I agree with everything you're saying. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. >> Listen, I understand it. We've all spoken about it. Manchester United back four is the same as 2022, >> but them players not going to war and it's easy to talk about them two players cuz one's the captain. He's come out and spoke and Martin has spoke, but they've been picked. We expect Fernandez to be picked. If I was in that dress room and not playing, I was on the bench etc. I'd think this manager is weak. This is a weak manager. Even looking in, >> would you have sacked him already after that result? >> It was. Do you know what? It's not the result. It was the manner. And do you know what summed it up also? Ces Fàregas coming out and saying, "I told my players stop to stop running 10 minutes ago." Held his hands up and said, "It's my fault. We conceded cuz I told him to calm down." >> Como. >> I mean, that's disgusting, isn't it? >> Like >> that's such an insult. >> That's an insult to Manchester United. That should have been enough.
