"MAKING UP THE NUMBERS!" Jason Cundy RUBBISHES any chance of Liverpool WINNING the Champions League!
Jason Cundy dismisses Liverpool's Champions League chances as the show debates Ngumoha, Saka and Wirtz
The show reacts to Liverpool's Champions League game against Villarreal, with Jason Cundy insisting they have no chance of winning the competition and a Liverpool fan pushing back. It also focuses on Rio Ngumoha's breakout performance, his England battle with Saka, and whether Wirtz deserves the criticism.
- Rio Ngumoha was the best player on the pitch and England must seriously consider him on the right after this performance — He is fearless, direct and gets fans off their seats, causing danger every time he gets the ball.
- Saka should feel Ngumoha breathing down his neck for the England starting spot — Young players have no fear of failure, so Saka cannot relax his standards despite his status and injuries.
- Liverpool have absolutely no chance of winning the Champions League and are just making up the numbers; the first decent side will knock them out — He points to Liverpool conceding six goals in their last two games and says their defending is nowhere near good enough.
- Never say never because even the worst teams have won the Champions League, so Liverpool still have a chance — There is precedent for unfancied teams going on to win the competition.
- Wirtz will go down as the biggest waste of money in Premier League history and will go missing in the Premier League — Once the physical battle starts he will be exposed, especially against a strong player like Elliot Anderson.
- Wirtz played well tonight, has taken too much criticism and will become the player Liverpool need — He is an established international and a big-money signing who needs time to settle.
- Liverpool's first-half defending was terrible and Van Dijk cannot keep performing like that — Villarreal kept carving Liverpool open and Van Dijk was badly exposed in the first half.
- 2-0 is the most dangerous scoreline in football, more dangerous than 3-0 or 1-0 — It makes you feel more comfortable than you are, and the next goal can change the whole game.

what did you make of the football tonight we were at the Liverpool game on obviously we watched them they were They were absolutely shocking for the first half hour. Oh, my word. Then they sorted themselves out. Yeah, goals... I'm not convinced. The goal is amazing. I know it's a truism in football, but it's amazing and I say this and I know you're going to argue but 2-0 is the scoreline that can lull you into a false sense of security and the next goal in the game changes the direction of the game and Liverpool got it and Liverpool got the goal. The crowd all of a sudden got involved. The crowd were, the crowd was silenced. I mean they were sitting there in utter disbelief like we were going what are we watching? What's happened? Where were they last night? And Villarreal bopped them off the park, mate. They were a seriously impressive team. But in the Champions League, over the course of a 90-minute game, it's who sustains that, who can keep that up. And Villarreal conceded and the shoulders sloped. Liverpool fans were up. All of a sudden, they got something to cheer. And the players have gone, we're back in it now. We shouldn't be because we haven't done enough to do it. And then they go in at half-time 2 2-2. And you're going, only one team wins this. Only one team is going to win this game. It felt like that. And Liverpool put their foot on the gas. Ruben Gamora, best player on the pitch. He's got that fearlessness. He's exciting, isn't He's, yeah. He is the... He's bums-off-seats type of player, right? But he's so direct. Is he the future for England, right wing? Well, after that performance, you have to be seriously looking at him. He's involved in the last squad. He was involved in the squad that went, that was involved in the World Cup. Obviously he couldn't beat part eight because he wasn't involved in the last 26 months or whatever it was. But he has caught the eye. Every time he plays, he catches the and there are players there are very few players that can that do that at his age but he has got the the thing that he's got he has the ability because he's so young there's no fear of failure no you get this with young players right they don't know what it's like faith there's failure doesn't exist in their lives no because there's always been the best and they just go out and just go just go and showcase what you got yeah go on do a step over who cares if i get and more often than not because he's so full of confidence there will be a moment in his career where there will be a dip where he will drop in form inevitably happens with most young kids but wow what a performance what a player he's a joy to watch he is and that's what he's the sort of player we watch that's why we watch football yeah don't watch football watch me play I try to lump players I definitely don't you you watch football the bums off seats create chances there was a chance on the McAllister goal where he could have gone down right he could he could have gone down and I've said to you why has he not gone down yeah and then yeah and then two and a half seconds like the balls in the back of the net you're going that's that is what he's placed for he's not he's not been kind of tarnished yet he's not to have that when he's there will be a time in his career where he'll feel and he'll feel something and then he will do you think he could be better than Saka wow what I mean I mean Saka on that right so so Engelmar normally plays on the left yeah but you can plan right but Bacola's turned up and the Gatko's back and he's gone on at the right I mean tonight's performance tells me he can do both you know Meliweke can do both I've seen Meliweke do both playing the right or playing the left but it for your so for England right now the next next England in the squad you know he's not an option like Euros well if I was Rio and Gamow a starter if I'm Saka I'm looking at that because Saka's had a piece I know he's had a lot of injuries right but he's England's starter right now in England's best team but when you're watching young players come through and even though Saka's nowhere near he's still got to reach the peak of his powers when you're looking over your shoulder going wow this kid this kid has got something this kid has got something this kid has got something and Liverpool fans should be very excited England fans should be very excited if he continues this ride what's the question is he going to be better than Saka well I mean that's well he got a crystal ball but yeah I would say right now if I'm Saka I've got to keep up my standards because if I don't I've got him breathing down my neck you still haven't answered my question it was a is he going to be better than Saka in your opinion well so Saka has had injuries recently yeah right stop stop fencing with me no no no stop flirting around it what do you mean just answer the question is he better than Saka right now well not I mean in the future potential I mean in terms of who's going to be the better player when you look when you look at what he's got potentially essentially the ceiling yeah there is no ceiling for him so he can keep going keep going keep going keep going keep going so good luck the boy you haven't answered the question what was the question I don't want to put any pressure on the boy by saying is he going to be better than Saka tell you what I will say if he goes on to achieve what Saka has done at Saka's stage of his career right now then that's some going because that means he wins a Premier League with Liverpool yeah yeah yeah yeah and he captains Liverpool have I answered the question or not no they're still not what's the question remind me again your miles off it he's miles off it let's go to Alan he's a Liverpool fan right Al right Al hiya how how are we doing all right matey all right Al happy what about the first half hour very happy Jamie yeah very happy that first half though it was a story of our season so far you know it was game of two halves wasn't it you know it was the same last week at Brentford but I was just wondering how Cundey feels really because obviously we've pinched Nguma off Chelsea didn't we you did yeah yeah and that happens at that age you know this goes on a lot at this level he wanted to go to a big club didn't he well listen good luck to the boy I've got no hard feelings when you're in academy it happens at every academy by the way every academy Liverpool players have left and gone on but yes he was at Chelsea Academy so listen Chelsea's academy produced your prayer how do you know I mean that just goes to show the academy that Chelsea have got well yeah I mean when he put it like that I didn't think of that really but yeah I thought he was brilliant today and you know I thought you know like last season in the So Slott, I don't know if you remember, it was when we played Chelsea. Slott actually got booed for bringing him off because he wasn't playing in. Yeah, I do remember that. I do. But let me ask you this, Al, the fact that we're talking about a young boy that come through an academy at another club and he's only 18 and I wish there were the boy well. I seriously do. But it's embarrassing that Florian inverts and players of that level who you spend hundreds of millions on and he's your go-to guy I mean that I mean I know I know how football works I know that that takes some time to settle into this football. But I mean, there's Liverpool got no chance of winning this champions league. Absolutely no chance. Not on the evidence I've seen, not like last class, last week, right? What's last? you conceded I mean you conceded six goals in the last two games and you're winning yeah I mean you can never say never worst teams have won it no chance mate five remember Al no no on the evidence in front of me no but I'll never say never you know because the worst teams have won it on you lot are just going to make up numbers and the first decent side you play you get bumped out yeah what did you make of it i mean look and you ended up playing well in the second half right but shocking the defending was like oh my god yeah i know um it's a bit sad i i have Like, I'm really angry. I have to agree with Cundey. Our go-to player was Rosario. And... What a player, by the way. What a player he's going to Yeah, we're all seeing these praises. We are. Do you know what I mean? The more the play is going to be... I thought Florian Vert's done all right tonight, though. He comes in for a lost stick. I thought he played well tonight. I'm trying to sleep. He'll go down as the biggest waste of money in Premier League history. Mate, you can't... I don't like him. He's on course. He's on course. I don't know if he's on course. He scored tonight. He played what? He goes missing in the Premier League. As soon as he gets physical, technical players like that, he can dance around. He's obviously a very intelligently gifted player. But you wait till Elliot Anderson starts powering through him, and a 50-50. Then we'll see what he's at. What do you think, Steve? Well, I think Virts has got... I've seen... You know, I watch Liverpool a lot. It's in science? lot of sticks and like even how to go you know and you know ex-players and he's got something he's got someone i think i i think he will i mean he's got something what do you mean though we You got he's not a young kid. He's not 18. I mean, he's definitely got something. I know 120 million pound for him. Of course, he's got something the international football player. Well, of course, yes, but you know, he is being He's going to be the player we want him to be. You know, it doesn't affect you. You support Tottenham. Cundee supports Chelsea. Do you know what I mean? It affects you. um it doesn't affect you doesn't bother me but it affects you he's a talking point isn't he but listen i thought you played all right it's all well and good coming off the bench when you're 2-0 down you get to half time at 2-2 and then you have an impact on a game where the game has changed the story of the game has changed completely completely and the game actually was set up for him because live with the ascendancy yeah they've got Villarreal gone their heads had gone I said it's a nice game for him to come on soon because that the attitude of the fans have changed the attitude of the players have changed them you know the whole the whole sense of where this game was going on 13 balls. I mean, Villarreal, while you said they were excellent, they weren't. They weren't. We were just atrocious defending. First half hour, they were They were excellent. Yeah, that was... They were carving you open. What was going on with Van Dijk? What was Van Dijk doing first half? Seriously, that can't carry on. I agree, I agree. That can't carry on. I agree, I agree. I I mean, I think we've got a lot of work to do, but we're still hanging in there. Do you know what I mean? We're still there. We're still about. You know, we're going to qualify. So you should. Not all that that we need players we need we need we need at least four players in january four that's what i think sure well there's a lot of players in january let me tell you if you play you play against psg like that in that first yeah you are completely you're coming out of that a half time four or five nil down let me tell you and i would be i'd be coming out as well i'll be walking steve listen mate thanks for your call i think what we have to do is give a little bit of credit because goals do change games and the crowd was so quiet as soon as anderson and no it's it's true there as soon as mccallis don't change games though mate mate um you know what i never thought never thought that no but here's the thing it it does it changes every the whole complex so 2-0 What happened there? I don't know, what was that? That was like a horn from like a boat. Yeah, it was weird noise. Play it again. What was that? Play it again. You don't even know what it was. Did you hear that? I did hear it. It's like a no it wasn't that anyway like gold strange games yeah but it's the the reason it's it's a statement because it's so true and you can be cruising in the game 2-0 up Villarreal fans have been Liverpool fans have been sitting there going oh my god we're getting bumped here and then McAllister scored goals changed names yeah great breaking those goals changed names thanks for that's it 2-0 is a dodgy scoreline no no I'm dying on that I'm going to die on that hill that 2-0 is the most dangerous scoreline in football I'm going to die on that hill it's fine what about 3-0? no it's not as dangerous not as dangerous not as 1-0? no because 1-0 you're very much aware next goal could be an equaliser I don't want to go for this again 2-0 is the most dangerous scoreline in football that's all I'm going to say again 3-1 depending on the time of the game 3-1 in 60 minutes dangerous scoreline 2 goals ahead dangerous give me another scoreline 4-2 dangerous scoreline bang dangerous scoreline because you think you're more comfortable than you are and they scored two goals already what about 2 two it depends who's scoring next goal all right get your calls in 03 717 22 2, 2, 3-4
