Let's talk about the other side of Manchester because of course they're blue. >> Yeah. >> Talk about Manchester United. Lots, you know what? There's a lot of salty messages coming in. Right. >> I talk sport lads. You cannot recreate the past based on historical achievements of the Ferguson era. Manu as a club have become museum keepers of their own archaic works. That's warm regards from Ken. Lots of people are just like someone on on the phones was like, "Oh, you you listen, >> you can't compare them to Arsenal and all this kind." You can. Manchester United are a massive football club, right? And what's happened right now and the way that they're being mismanaged is nothing short of a disgrace. Really and truly. If I was a United fan, I'd be absolutely fuming. >> Yeah, they're running on fumes though. Like they're running like I know most clubs run on debt, but what type of debt? Do you know what I mean? Um it's got it's got to look a bit more rosier than it is. There's a dark cloud over Manchester. They need to sort out a lot of things. >> Rivalry, banner, and all that kind of stuff. And we love that, especially on the sports bar. >> Yeah. you know, you you you just know what it is. And Manchester United are one of the biggest football clubs in the world, right? >> And at the moment, it just feels like they turn a corner like they did last season, got Champions League football, Michael Carrick, >> and then they're back down crisis avenue. >> Let's hear from Manchester United boss Michael Carrick now where he spoke passionately about the club's struggles earlier today in his press conference. >> I think recently we haven't had a good time. I think that's pretty obvious. So, I totally accept that what what we're going through at the moment. We had five months of relative success and in a spell where I was happy with a lot of things that I was seeing and and that we were doing as a team. We have we haven't done well enough lately. I think that's pretty obvious to say and we've had a spell that we're we're really not happy with. Wednesday was a bad night. We're in a moment where it's it's it's not gone well. So, we need to show exactly what it means and respect this football club. Respect what it takes to be here. I'm not entitled to be here. Entitlement cannot be at this football club. We're not entitled to win. We've won in the past. We've got an incredible history. But that doesn't mean that you're entitled to to to just win. I'm fully aware of that. Takes a lot of sacrifice. You got to you got to invest yourself in the football club and you got to do a lot of things that maybe aren't so nice, but you got to do it for each other and you got to win. And you got to win. And I think it's important we live up to that. And it's important for me to push those values and it's important for our supporters to to feel that moving forward. We've had it. We've kind of lost our way a little bit if I'm totally honest. Um and we'll get it back. I'm totally convinced we'll get it back. who respect this football club, respect what it takes because it's very very important to me. >> Michael carry there speaking passionately about his club Manchester United. And you know what, Michael K, great footballer, great human being and you know we should be wishing him well as a as a young English manager in the Premier League. There's not many of them, right? So I really want to see him get a chance at Manchester United because I think they will turn a corner, right? You know, you mentioned it the five months of, you know, success that they had. got to Champions League. When he come in and said about getting to Champions League, we thought he was mad. >> He'd done it. Now, as we as we knew that squad's doesn't have enough there to compete Champions League football and you know the the Premier League and other cups, etc. And it's it's a bit of a difficult time. Let's go over to the phone lines because we got Anthony who's a Man United fan. He joins us. Good evening, Anthony. >> Evening J. >> Yeah, very well. What did you make of uh the press conference from Michael? He spoke passionately, didn't he? I've I've always backed Michael Carrick, but I I said on the Sports Bar last week, I said he he's probably going to be best doing himself a favor and resigning. >> Yeah. >> To save himself because there's only one way that this is all going. >> We've seen We've seen it before, haven't we, Anthony? Like you said, there's only one way it's going. >> Yeah. >> Coley. Yeah. Look, for me the important question is has he got the the knowhow to get them out of this rut? When you look at history um when he first come in first five months as he said was um it was promising. It looked like yeah he's got something here and and I remember what Roy Keane Roy Keane said. He was the only one I think he said nah you can't give him the the job full time. I don't think he's equipped for it. Um and and and that that could be actually a thing. But at the same time, how long is Manchester United going to be under a rebuild? >> Yeah. >> Do you know what I mean? It's just go, do you know what I mean? How long does this last rebuild? Cuz it's always finding the DNA of the club. He just stated a whole list of what the DNA of the club was today. And uh I I looked at that like it was like a departure um like it's a res resignation note. Do you know what I mean? Like a little >> speech kind of thing. cuz but at the same time was it or was he just trying to get back at his the players that are come out and spoke basically against the team? >> Anthony we heard that word entitled thrown around a few >> who who do you think is throwing that he's throwing at the players couple of the players obviously >> to be honest I think Landro Martinez's wasn't really at Carrick. No, it wasn't. >> It was at the up above. I did agree with Landro Martinez and everything that he said. >> Because if you think about it, there's 18 players there last season. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> That want to fight for their place for next season, for fight for the Champions League, fight for the Premier League. >> If you see like Tottenham, six or seven players coming in, >> you're going to feel, oh, actually, I need to be on my toes here. >> Yeah. At the moment they're all sitting there being a I'm getting picked on Wednesday. I'm I'm definitely getting picked on Tuesday. There's no way there's no way I'm getting dropped. >> I've always got a chance and you're you're right that there's no competition enough competition for places. Listen, even up front, what have you got up front? This is Manchester United we're talking about. You used to have >> you always used to have a worldass striker at least up there to at least get you out of a rut when you're in it. >> Well, they're few and far between anyway. But I know it's not the same, but and then I look at it and I think, okay, Manchester United, what even if they did have the money, what kind of players are they attracting now? >> Well, this is the other issue, but >> are they in the elite? Are they attracting elite players? Um, are they attracting the Champions League players? Do you know what I mean? The top of the best, the best. >> Yeah. Are you Do you still feel that you can attract the best? >> We We can definitely attract better better than what we've got. I I definitely think the the transfer window that's just gone majestic. I spoke to you last season when we had Kuna and then Bumo come in. >> Yes. >> On the final word >> and I said they're great signings. >> They're great sign. >> What's what's this season? you needed to you needed to build on that because you did have a great and the thing is as well everyone could see anyone in football could see that you needed to add in defense and you know even with Spurs deserby started from the backline again it's not come to fruition just yet still trying to find its way but at least we know that there's a preference of players there you can go through >> with Manchester United I said it before you know you look at that that back line at the moment and it's like how how are they still >> how are they surviving >> but look he didn't he didn't didn't He didn't get backed. He didn't get backed. Like, look, you're fullbacks for me. I don't I don't get it. Dow, I don't get I don't understand it. >> They're not Premier League fullbacks. >> Not Not sure. Used to be, but I'm not sure that he's at that level. >> You can't You can't expect to sure. He's 31. >> I know. And listen, man. Um, look, we praise M Carrick. We We praised him when he was doing really well, when he had that nice run. Do you know what I mean? Now he's struggling. Everyone's going to be throwing their toys out the prime. Ah, he's not ready. Yeah, he got the he he he he's he just hasn't got the tools. Why can't we help? Why can't you guys like understand that sometimes, as you can see, there's something going on in the dressing room. >> Yeah. What we're talking about. >> And when does it become the players fault or the same It's the same DNA of what the players bringing up. They're looking at and thinking, "Oh, I'm going to just point fingers now because it's not going well on the field. I've got to protect me and my my character." And it's and sometimes you need to be able to look at yourself as a footballer and say, "Am I giving enough?" I've I've watched Bruno this season. I don't think he's been great. >> No. >> Like he keeps on giving the ball away. His passes ain't been on point. And this is not the same player that I saw that won the PFA player of the year award. >> Well, this discussion will rage on during the show. 03717234. Michael Carrick. How much time has he got as Manchester United manager? You listen to the sports by Weekend to imagine Coley on Talk Sport. Let's go to Cash as a Man United fan. Evening Cash. >> Evening lads. Great show as always. >> Oh, thank you very much. What's What's going on with your football club mate? >> I think we might need need to sign it was D Manchester United. >> You know, he seems to know what he's talking. You know, I don't think you're saying I think you'd rather keep the money. >> Um to be honest, I think it's been a reoccurring story this over the years, over these last few years. we get a manager, there's a bounce, we we play a little bit well, and then there's this sudden sort of player revolt and then there's the sort of, you know, the question of t tactics and what have you. Um, but I think from my point of view, don't get me wrong, TK has made dodgy decisions, some tactical changes which don't make sense and I understand that, but the players have to look at themselves as well. They they're not putting in the effort. They're much better than than they are. And like you guys alluded previously, um the last season, these were the same players. We haven't really got that many new players that we can say that, you know, the whole sort of landscape's changed. Um and ultimately, to be honest, guys, it all comes from the top as well. Um the hierarchy, the the club has run from the core. And I just we're talking about changing managers again. Look at the pedigree of managers we've had. You know, we've had the Mourinho, we've had the Vanals and the Tenhags and what have you. They flourish everywhere else, but as soon as they come to Manchester United, they they fold and they they're supposedly not good enough. >> Cashio is no manager now gets time, right? And that is that's the biggest problem in football. I think I think you know if Arteta right Arteta's whole story could be different right now. If after you know the two years in little wobbly moments and they got rid of him all of a sudden like right now he's revered as one of the best managers in the Premier. >> You know that why do you know why that is? >> The board >> they're brave. >> The the Arsenal board were brave. They said no this is our man. We're going to stick by him. We see him in training. We see what we can where we can build what we need. What what does he need? What does he need to get us closer? >> And that's sometimes you just need to be brave as I'm not going to tell an owner cuz that's not my money. But sometimes you got to get football people that understand it and say, "You know what? I've seen this. I've seen this happen before. >> It needs to it needs time. >> It's not going to be an overnight process, but we are we're going to have to go through um a little bit of a rut to get to the smooth, you know, and and and and that's how it goes. That's how football is. It's you can't some some people just think you can just buy the league. Yeah, you can do that, but where's the long you need longevity? You need to you need to build from found a foundation, fertile soil, I always say, and you need to make sure the the soil is is is ready to go and the grass can grow nice and green. But right now, I just think it's it's rusty at Man United. I think and that's that's at the top. >> And you know what we often forget as well and and Cash will see me right here. Alex and Sir Alex Ferguson won his first league title six and a half years into his tenure at Man United, right? The great Sir Alex Fergus. >> No, but that's a different time. >> I know it's a different time. It's a completely different time, but it doesn't come away from the fact of the matter. If you want to talk about DNA, you want to talk about building something, you can't create DNA, DNA, DNA. You can't create a dynasty in a season. No, we've won. >> But we're in so we're in a social media period right now. So, everyone every Tom Dick Canary and their dog has got to say, you know what I mean? So, everyone's going to be apply pressure. But it's the one it's the brave ones that don't listen to the outside noise and know exactly where the club has to go and has to be what the the the end development is. Now it's about being brave and saying no, I'm going to back him even though he might not actually be the right man for the job, Michael Carrick. But you need a little bit of structure and a little bit of um familiarity. So the m so the the the players know this is what it is. It's not going to change. So we better dig in or else we are going to be out the door next season. >> Absolutely. The the player power right now in football is too big. And managers, >> they might as well keep they might as well keep their engine on as soon as they come cuz the players can just turn on you cuz they don't like something you said and then you're out the door. And there's nothing you can't build from that.
