"TURNED IT AROUND!" Goals panel REACT as Ipswich DENY Fulham first win of the season
Late Ipswich Comeback Denies Fulham as Panel Discusses Fulham's Collapse and Brighton's Ambitions
talkSPORT's Goals panel reviews Ipswich's late 2-1 comeback against Fulham, criticising Fulham's passive and complacent second-half display while debating Ipswich's survival chances. They also assess Brighton's win at Sunderland, arguing Brighton will not win the title but should target Europe and even a Champions League place.
- Ipswich deserved their equaliser — They had been pressing for 10 to 15 minutes and Fulham were dropping deeper and deeper, so the goal felt inevitable.
- Fulham were pathetic and complacent in the second half — They could not get hold of the ball and were pushed so deep it looked like they were playing with nine men.
- Ipswich are the strongest of the three promoted teams and have a great chance of staying up — They have good players and bench options and play good football; a more clinical centre-forward would make them even better.
- Fulham have only themselves to blame and will be in relegation trouble if they keep playing like this — They have started the season poorly and been extremely inconsistent.
- Fulham crumble when teams are physical with them and could drop points against relegation rivals like Sunderland, Ipswich and Hull — Their weaknesses show when opponents put it on them physically.
- Brighton will not win the Premier League — The betting odds leave them behind Arsenal, City, Liverpool and Chelsea, and this is not a Leicester-style title race.
- Brighton should target the Champions League places, especially fifth — They are third despite having arguably their three best players injured, and the squad and system keep working.
- Brighton are a fantastically run club — They have changed several players and managers yet remain consistently near the top.

But then there's been a goalpip equalizer. >> Go on and back. >> What's the celebration as well? >> Uh, brilliant from >> Wow, what a big moment. Watara. >> Yeah. Well, I'm not going to ask Lee to pronounce. >> Yeah, big big moment since the substitute who's come off the bench and he's put Ipsswitch back on level terms. They've been pushing, haven't they? They've been pressing for that equalizer for the last 10 or 15 minutes. I felt like it's been coming and after 88 minutes, they do indeed get themselves back on level terms. Utara with the goal. uh right hand side. He cuts in on that left foot. My goodness me. It's a fantastic, wonderful strike with his left foot. What a hit that is. He's got space outside the box, shifts it onto that left foot and he goes across the goalkeeper. Powerful hit. I tell you what, from point of view here, Delta, let's go on and win this game. >> Let's try and nick it. Yeah, >> we've seen some goals today. >> Yeah, we've seen some very good finishes. >> I think they deserve that though, Mark. >> Yeah, I think so. Yeah, the last the last five 10 minutes certainly they've really been pushing on. We said they they're missing a striker to just to you know finish it off. >> Do something like that. Well >> well I mean if you can do that every game they don't need a striker but >> they've been definitely pushing on for it and Fulham have been dropping deeper and deeper and deeper. >> That's what happens. >> That's it right. Yeah% 100%. >> I think I think Fulham have been pathetic in the second half. I mean honestly like you know I know fully Martin like they're not Arsenal but you know get a new promoter team you go one up you've got to be able to try and control the game and dominate the game and they've just they're going deeper and deeper and deeper and we've said for what 10 15 minutes that Ipsswitch are putting on the pressure having chances crossing shots and you know Fulham can't get hold of the ball it's it's almost like they're playing with nine men they can't get out >> they've been very complacent in the second half >> and you switch >> can't do anything >> I think I think look you know I think I know Har had the best start but I think look the stronger of all the three promoted teams. I really really do. If they got some good players, good options off the bench. They they move the ball really nicely. They play some really really good football. I think you might be right about the center forward. If they had a, you know, more of a clinical center forward, but you know, players like Lucish, I think Fijian's dangerous and Cisco is the top half, top half player. So, um, yeah, I really like the look of it. They got a cracking chance of staying up and they got a cracking chance here. We got five minutes added on of maybe finding a winner. So, we come towards the last couple of minutes in all of our 3:00 games and the Premier League seeing plenty of goals. Brighton still leading at Sunderland by a goal despite being down to 10. One team needs to find a goal. >> A lot of this second half is still Villa two. Bren for two maybe a point is the right result in that game. Chelsea are cruising at home to Bournemouth by five goals to one. Ipsswitch one full and one five added on in that game. Ipsswitch just equalizing and yeah you want you want to tell it. >> No, I don't want to say anything again. >> Um Ipsswitch Ipsswitch Rexom against Derby last minute. >> At least you never saw it. >> Yeah, that's >> that's heartbreaking to watch. That's a kick in the teeth. That is Yeah, it's Derby one, Rexon one, Blackburn two, Cardiff one, Stoker two up away at Bolton. Bar still leading by gold to nil. There's a shot. Is that Kamar? >> He's just lashed it with everything he's got. >> There's a shot from inside the box for Villa and it GOES OVER THE BALL. HE SCORES. THEY TURN IT AROUND IF TWO FOOT AND ONE. IT'S O'HAY THE CENTER HALF AND IN THE SPACE OF 3 MINUTES THEY GO FROM ONE N DOWN TO 2-1 UP SCENES of Portman Road. Wonderful ball whipped in from THE LEFT HAND SIDE. O'SHEA GETS THEIR FIRST heads home. Ipsswish two full and one. And just like that, one down, two on up CJ. What a moment for Ipsswitch. >> We just spoke about one of the worst feelings in football is to concede a last minute um a goal. And Ipsswitch have never said never. They've refused to lie down. They've completely turned it around. It's a big three points. Gut-wrenching for Fulham. Gut-wrenching for Fulham. But they've only got themselves to blame. They've not played well enough. They've been extremely inconsistent. And relegation is on the cards for Fulham to continue like this. They have not started the season well enough. That's right. >> I just think and it's a bit of a cliche about Fulham, but I think if you go physical against them and you really like put it on them, I think they'll crumble. >> And you just saw it there. >> Yeah. You know, I mean like you know the kind of teams like Sunderland, like Ipswich, like Hull, like Leads, they're the teams that they'll need to beat and I could see them not beating those teams. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> Yeah. It's great for IPS. Jimmy, it's great to have no allegiance to Ipsswitch at all, but great to see that like the club coming up. You need your home stadium to be absolutely rocking. It's a huge result for Ipsswitch. >> Um there three home games this season. They lose to Liverpool not easy obviously, but home win at the moment against Fulham. Beat Sunderland first day of the season. Those are the games, aren't they, that you know, six points, they're the games that you said they'll circle thinking we need to get three points in these games. It's two, Fulham one. My goodness me. By the way, what does this mean for avaroa? Because it was it always felt like pro ball was kicked. It felt like it was a gamble, wasn't it? Going for a man. Not much experience in his whole managerial career, let alone in the Premier League. >> It was a sexy appointment rather than a pragmatic. >> Quite literally. >> Yeah. >> And he brought through a couple of the academy kids as well. >> Came in, Palasios came in. Yeah. >> Sounds great if you're playing football manager. Maybe in reality in the Premier League. >> Yeah. In the Premier League with the rigor that you need, this league is unforgiving. You do need experience. So, they probably keep faith with him, but it's not looking good. And as a manager, you're always close to the set. But >> we're also thick, aren't cuz 5 minutes ago >> probably going to win this game and and it's a huge result for him. So >> if you can't get it across the line, you can't do it. That's a problem. BUT THERE'S A CHANCE that >> that's a brilliant save. >> Yes, Kevin. First time shot is important by the goalkeeper. >> Yeah, absolutely. Good save there. Big left boot by the goalkeeper who sticks it out and it's uh Tessa. He does really well to kind of get the end of a cross on the left hand side to put it back in the danger area and he sticks out a big left boot the keeper and Fulham still have the ball alive in the box. Kevin tries to maybe do a bit too much. He's still alive. It's still alive to Rodrigo Munes and there was a shot that came in and Fulham trying to pile on the pressure switch with 11 men behind the ball. Cross comes inper and can they just keep hold of the ball and yep they can. They can try and counterattack. They're going to win a FREE KICK. AND THERE'S A SECOND GOAL FOR BRIGHTON AT SUNDERLAND. WHAT A MOMENT. AND WHAT A VICTORY THIS would be for Brighton at Sunderland. They, you know, they played Arsenal off the park, didn't they, a couple of weeks ago. They've been nowhere near at their fluent best today. They won't care. They scored early in the second half. They went down to 10 and they've had pretty much everybody uh on the edge of their box since then, but they go forward. They score on the counterattack. Sunderland nil Brighton too. And Brighton going to move on to 13 points. What a start to the season for Fabian Herzel and Brighton. >> Yeah, into third place. Uh if they uh if this stays 2-0, which you think it will been seven minutes added time, they're into the 93rd already. It's a Sunderland's mistake as well. Keeper has just hit it into midfield straight to a Brighton player. Couple of passes later and uh the it's a great ball. Splits the defense onto the uh um R. Yeah, brilliant. >> That's terrible from a Sun. >> Awful Sunderland, but yeah, great from Brighton's point of view. It's Hajam who who keeps his composure and scores and yeah what a massive >> scored two games in a row now is it backed against us >> what a yeah >> pulling baby Rodri I don't know for the Rodri comparisons yeah but he's t player >> sounds good to me though fan >> big reputation to live up to but >> yeah sure >> very good player like nice finish the goalkeeper left obviously they're not going to win the uh obviously they're not going to win the the Premier League we all know that but like the prices are really interesting when you're looking yeah you never know but I think you know it's not Leicester era is it now where your teams are in transition. But you know, you look at the prices and you got obviously Arsenal are odds on to win the title. Then City at 3:1, Liverpool 11 to1, Chelsea 16 to1, Brighton are next in the betting for that. They're not going to do it. But like that obviously that they're ahead of all the others like you know Man United and all the other big teams. Just shows what they've got to where they've got to. Sure. and and and really at this stage, you know, a obviously top 10 to get into Europe, but they should be now looking at how can how long can they keep this going to get into a fifth place spot. >> Should they be looking to be fifth place got their >> completely agree with him, you know, whether they can do that and they've still got the two arguably two of the best players to come back yet. >> That's another really both those two lads haven't k and also sorry, you know, mate, I'll throw in a third one for you. >> Gord your first game of the season, Henchawwood. >> Yeah. who's also one of them. So, I mean, you could argue the three best players are injured at the moment and they're third in the team, >> right? And are doing fantastic. They should be looking at the Champions League places, >> especially that fifth place as well. Gives the extra little bit of hope. >> Arsenal City is open. >> The interesting thing about it, they've got >> they've probably got what >> I couldn't argue this cuz I don't know every single squad, but they've got a squad that it looks like whoever they bring in and out, it just kind of all works. He doesn't drop off poor players and he's got them into a system where they all just kind of fit and it doesn't matter who he brings on. They've been better since the substitutions because obviously they're fresher >> but like um yeah that's they've toughed it out today against a difficult team who admittedly are missing two of the key players in Sunderland but yeah Apes which have won 2-1 as well >> but that's the sign of a good team isn't it? They can go and beat Arsenal playing some great football, but also when the going gets tough, you can, you know, definitely >> and look how they run their club, man. We've seen them have several players, several managers, and they've still consistently been up there. So, the higher inner workings that beat at Brighton, it's a fantastic run club.
