"I'M IN NO PANIC!" Newcastle fan CLAIMS they "DOMINATED" despite LOSS to Aston Villa
Newcastle fan insists they dominated and there is no panic, while the host challenges that and a Villa fan backs their improving squad
The show takes calls from Newcastle and Aston Villa fans after Newcastle's loss to Aston Villa, covering performances, refereeing, new signings and season expectations. The Newcastle callers argue there is no need to panic and dispute the result's wider meaning, the host pushes back on the "dominated" claim, and the Villa caller argues their squad is coming together under Emery.
- Newcastle dominated the game today, the club is in transition, he is not panicking at all, but they need to find their best formation and balance and get Dan Burn back at centre-half — He felt they controlled the match and Aston Villa were simply sharp and clinical when chances came; he says the boos respond to results rather than the performance
- It is too strong to say Newcastle dominated the game — It was end to end; Newcastle were the better team for large parts of the second half, but Villa could have scored too, so it was a close game
- He is more frustrated with the referee, especially the free kick inside Newcastle's half before Villa's first goal — He says that should not have been allowed and argues you cannot be offside in your own half, so he does not understand why Villa got the free kick there
- Fernandez has not hit the ground running — He sees a player full of running but not enough quality, and says adapting from the French league takes time, though the Premier League does not give much time
- A good season for Newcastle now looks like a top-half finish, not Europe — He said Europe at the start of the season, but now a top-half finish feels optimistic and he would take it
- Villa's squad is coming together and is arguably better than Newcastle's — He rates Manzambi as just as good as Rogers, Jackson as probably better than Watkins and Suzuki as an upgrade on Martinez, citing Villa's away win at Newcastle and a recent 6-0 home win in Europe
- It is far too early to say Manzambi is better than Rogers — Rogers is ripping it up at Chelsea; and just because Villa beat Newcastle away after Newcastle were recently thrashed by Coventry does not prove Villa definitely have a better squad, though Edward might be proven right long term
- The young, hungry players Emery has chosen himself could make this a special season for Villa — He argues Emery's Europa League-winning team was inherited from the Dean Smith era, with many Championship players coached into cup winners, and these are now his own signings
- The host says Jackson must prove he can score across several games in a row, while Edward says Jackson is an upgrade on Watkins and will justify the £65m fee — The host points to missed chances and says the next step is scoring in four or five straight games; Edward rates his hold-up play, pace and running of the channels, believes Watkins is declining, and expects Jackson to flourish under Emery
- For Villa, winning the FA Cup and finishing top five would be a fantastic season — He says he would love that, and the host says he would take it

Steve is a Newcastle fan. Good evening, Steve. Commiserations, mate. How you feeling after that one? >> Hey there. Yeah. Hi, Matt. Yeah. Uh, look, look, we're in transition. >> Yeah. >> Uh, honestly, the the game and this I thought we dominated the game today. Okay. He's got to find his best formation, especially at the nine and 10 place. Uh, whistles is great, sometimes not. We need a solit um and we need to work out if we're playing a 10 or we're going to play a three across the middle. But I'm I'm I'm not panicking. Absolutely not. >> Fair to say, Steve, like it, you know, it is six, seven, seven games into the season. You you you're right to say you're in transition and I think Newcastle fans would do well to have that level of patience. Having said that though, there are booze at Halime, mate. Why do you think there's such frustration when it is so early on in YA's tenure? >> Honestly, you know, we I you know, I've been going to to the Newcastle game for for for years. You know, the the boo they the they they respond to the the way the results are, not the way that we're playing. >> I'm talking we dominate. Listen, Aston Villa just went away in the in the champion Aston Villa just went away in in the Champions League this week >> away from home. One 3-0. >> Okay, we I thought we dominated them today. >> They they were very very sharp when they had their chances and they put away the goals, >> but you know that bad. I think we need Dan Burn back in the middle back in the center half. >> Yeah. >> And uh you know We we just need to find the the right the the right balance. That's all. I've got I'm in no I'm in no way at all >> and I've just been watching the game and the negativity it just drives me mad. >> Yeah, Steve, I appreciate your patience and I think you know you're you're right to call on a little bit of patience. I do think it's a bit strong to say that Newcastle dominated that game. It was end to end. I think you know large parts of that second half Newcastle were the better team but Villa could have had some goals as well. But it was a it was a close game, no doubt. Thank you for the call, Steve. Uh Danny is a Newcastle fan. Good evening, Danny. Do you share the kind of patience that we've just heard from Steve or are you feeling a little bit more frustrated about what you've seen? >> No, I'm I'm feeling a little bit more frustrated uh more with the referee himself to be honest. Like I know I'm not going to excuse anything that we've done in the game. I'm not going to say that we were, you know, close like the last caller or anything, but um I feel like in the run up to LA the first goal, obviously they we took a free they've took a free kick from with within our half and I don't understand how that can be let go and obviously just you know brushed over like there's nothing happening like it's a it's a it's a fair rule of the game. You can't be offside within your own half and then obviously Villa are taking one from within hours. I don't understand what's going on. >> When when you say in terms of the referee's general performance, I think there was eight yellow cards in that game. Do do you think that it's being sort of refed to an inch of its life? Would you like to see the game flow a little bit more? >> Yeah, I'd like to see it flow a little bit more. Obviously, if the ref just now eight yellow cards, the game's not flowing as well as it can be. But like I say, we're obviously missing out, you know, sort of, you know, any sort of entertainment going forwards. >> What do you make What do you make of your sort of new signings? I've got to say there was a lot of excitement around Fernandez Pardo and I know it's early doors and I'm not judging him as a bad signing just yet. Um, but he's not really hit the ground running in particular. >> No, the the way I liking him is I'm I'm seeing I'm seeing more of an Elm Mirror on there again yet again. Uh, someone who's full of running but not too much quality, but obviously he's got time to, you know, bet himself into the Premier League. He's coming from the French league which obviously we know isn't isn't the greatest. Yeah. But we we hopefully we can see a little bit going forward because the Iceland needs a little bit more time but obviously in the Premier League you haven't got that time have you? >> Yeah. No, you're right to point it out. What does a good season look like for you? Uh Danny, you know, is it is it Europe still? Are you still holding on hope? Where would you say is a good season for Newcastle? >> At the start of the season, I said Europe, but uh now we're more looking towards the top half. If we can get a top half finish, it feels optimistic at the moment, but I'd definitely definitely take a top half finish. I >> I think it's more than possible, mate. And you know, I know that it's all about Europe and there are so many places up for grabs, but considering the transition, considering, you know, all the players that you lost in the summer, I don't think that'd be too bad. Thank you so much for your call, Danny. Appreciate it. Have yourself a good Saturday evening and a good rest of your weekend. Um, commiserations to Newcastle fans, but congratulations to Edward the Villa fan. How you doing, Edward? Uh, not bad. Three points for your lot. Seems to be coming together under. >> Uh yeah, Max, we spoke we spoke after the uh after the Brighton game and I I was the caller that told you that this will be a better squad and you laughed at me down the phone if you remember. >> I I don't remember. No. >> No. Okay. So, Manzambi versus Rogers, I'd say just as good. Jackson versus Watkins probably better. Tleman versus Gomez, upgrade. Suzuki versus Martinez, upgrade. We've got on by to come. I think we're gonna start cooking and this is beating Newcastle away from home who aren't in Europe and we've just spanked Fenbache only a few days ago, six nil at home. Yeah, we're gonna cook. >> Yeah. No, it's great, mate. I mean, you can't deny that things are looking up under Emory and you know, it'd be silly to kind of to think that it's not possible. I did kind of question earlier in the season. I did kind of question whether has he got the appetite. Not that he doesn't strike me as someone that does, but can he really continue keep building because of the way that Villa are restricted by the financial regulations, but I do think it's still far too early to say that Manzambi is a better player than Rogers, mate. I mean, Rogers has gone to Chelsea and he's he's absolutely ripping it up. you know, you might well be right, but just because you've beaten Newcastle, who've been spanked recently by Coventry, um just because you've beaten them away, I don't think it's maybe the time to say you've definitely got a better squad. But you, you know, you might well be proven right in the long term. >> Yeah. No, no, I agree with that. No, I'm just I'm just excited for it. Now, you got to think that this is these are players that Unai Emory's bought himself that he's chosen and selected. The team that he won the Europa League with was an inherited team from the Dean Smith era. There were a lot of championship players that Emory has just coached into cup winning players. So you got to think now these young hungry talented players that he's chosen. We could become something I think that's uh going to be quite special actually this season. >> No I I I I certainly don't think it's off the cards particularly with unai. I love the look of Manzambi. I do think Nicholas Jackson you know missed a good couple of chances. is I know he's been in the goals recently, but I think his challenge as a as a player, Edward, is to kind of >> to not just score for one or two games on the bounce, but to score on four or five on the bounce. Do you know what I mean? I think that's for him that's the next step up he needs to make. >> Yeah, do agree. But, um, I'm actually very surprised by him. I think I think his overall hold up play is great. Uh, he's pretty quick. He runs the channels. I do think he's an upgrade on Watkins who was probably in decline, but I think under Emory, I think he's going to flourish more and and I think he's actually going to show people that um actually the 65 million pound price tag that everyone laughed at, I think he's actually going to be one of the best strikers in the league this season again because there aren't that many up there. >> Well, I hope you're right, Edward. Again, I find it difficult at this point to to see that Nicholas Jackson come the end of the season might be in for striker of the year, particularly when you've got Harland, Esac all banging the goals. But I what what I would say is Suzuki looks like an incredible keeper and his distribution's fantastic as well. Like yeah, that that that's a great signing. >> Yeah. No, he's brilliant. I mean, I think the main one that we're missing at the moment is Concer, but then again, Lindelof's been brilliant and he was an outcast from Man United and look what Emry's done with him as well. We still got Mings who's kind of an oldish sort of player, but again, still doing a job. I thought at the back we were going to be a bit a bit shaky this season, but we're looking okay again. So again, it's a bit promising. Um, >> yeah. No, it's definitely coming together. >> Yeah, and I thought there should have been at least one red card today. That tackle over the ball that was completely reckless and completely dangerous. I don't know what they are are doing again there to be honest. And then there's the potential I don't know the one the foul on Jackson potentially in the penalty area that could have been a pen. I don't know if he nicked the ball or not. >> Yeah, it's a close one. I I you know, I can see where you're coming from. But look, you were good for the win. We had a caller earlier. Had good chat with him. He he said Newcastle dominated the game. I don't think that's the case. You know, I thought I thought as well Ibraim and Bay looked good when he came on. You know, he's beaten players, you know, on that left hand side cutting in. He could have had a goal, could have shot a little bit earlier, you know. Yeah, he looks good. What What's a good season for you then, mate? You know, considering the transition, I know it's got better. It's got better in Europe certainly, and it's starting to get better in the league. What do you want to achieve this season for it to be a success? >> I'd love to win FA Cup and top five and I think that would be a fantastic season. >> Ky Moses. Yeah, I'd take that. And just finally, can you answer me a question? What about what's happened to Taylor Rwood Bellis? Are we are we getting another Harvey Elliot on our hands? Because he's not he's not getting a sniff. >> No, no. I think what it is, you got to see with Emory, unless it's a player he's worked with before like Jackson, he tends to buy a player and then he's got to learn the Uni Emory way first. So like you got to think when we signed Matson for about 50 million, he didn't get a sniff in for about half the season. Yeah. So I think he's got to learn the Uni Emory way and then then he'll make his way into the team. Okay, fair enough. I'd like to see that. But tonight, Lindelof was an absolute stalwart. So, you can kind of see why uh why Emry's keeping his trust in in in the players that he knows. Edward, thank you for your call, mate. Appreciate it. Enjoy your Saturday evening and speak to you soon. >> Thank you, mate. >> Cheers, Edward. >> Thanks. >> Happy days.
