Premier League review: Brighton's strong start and the pressure on Crystal Palace
The segment focuses on Brighton's strong start after their 5-0 win over Crystal Palace, with the pundits arguing that their league position is backed by performances but that sustaining it will depend on opponents' adjustments, injuries and luck. The discussion then turns to the pressure on Crystal Palace, with one side criticising the manager and players while the other urges patience and more time.
- Brighton should keep building on the momentum of beating Arsenal rather than fade away and should keep hammering teams. — They had strong wins over Aston Villa, Coventry, Arsenal and Sunderland, plus a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace, and even scored three in defeat to Chelsea.
- Brighton's third place is not a false position. — Their performances have been convincing, they sit five points behind Manchester City and two behind Arsenal, and only Barcelona have scored more in Europe's major leagues this season.
- Opponents will now be more wary of Brighton, but Brighton can keep going. — Brighton have shown how good they are, especially at home, so teams will see them as a threat and adjust to be more compact and take their chances.
- Brighton are wiser than last season, but sustaining this will need luck with injuries. — They are great to watch and have experienced players plus a manager who has added know-how, but a club outside the biggest need injury luck.
- The Crystal Palace manager looks out of his depth and the players look like they are waiting for the inevitable. — The defence and midfield were disorganised, chances were missed up front, and the team showed little response.
- It is too early to judge the Crystal Palace manager or to panic; he should be given time. — He is new to the Premier League, may be dealing with a second language, has just had a European game, and success brings challenges such as big clubs taking your best players.
- Crystal Palace's players are not putting in a shift for the manager. — From the performance and lack of effort, the players are not helping him enough, so the problem is not only the coach.

is is this is so clean. Look, it's strength. The strength >> to reach that >> to reach that. I couldn't do that. >> We just thought we'd do that for fun. But Wayne was the best. The vote has been cast and it's in. So Wayne Rudy's in 2017 is the is the best of them. Look, we should put this into context as well. That wasn't just, you know, a losing goal. Wasn't a consolation goal. That was the third goal in a 5-nil victory for Brighton. >> Had the most incredible start to the season. and they're up to third place in the table. Look at all that green on the board for them. They've beaten Villa, Coventry, Arsenal really impressively, Sunderland and now Crystal Palace by five goals. And just look at all the big win at the Cup at United as well with the 3-2 with the with the turn. But even when you look at the game that they lost against Chelsea, they scored three goals. >> Three goals. And you look at you think to yourself like there's they could take so much from that. But I think beating commentary 5-0il then having Arsenal it's like a free hit for Arsenal. They beat Arsenal 3-0 then you and and then you know they've gone Sunderland and then today Palace it's like they just they've built on the momentum of saying well let's not beat Arsenal and then just like fade away. Let's just keep >> let's keep hammering teams. >> The goals far is absolutely fantastic and again defensively don't know Mugs there's a lot of pride we heard a manager speaking there stay humble. >> Yeah. So the question I'm sure you're asking is are they scoring more goals than anyone else at this stage of any Premier League season? The answer is not quite. Manchester City in 201920 was 2017 >> when 201920 >> that's what I said >> not not as clearly as that was I was implying it. Manchester United in 20112 and then Arsenal in 2009 2010 but 23 the same as a couple of those Manchester City sides and Chelsea and and Newcastle is a fantastic record in this season of the major European leagues only Barcelona have scored more goals so far than than Brighton. And what it means to this table and how it sets them up in comparison to the rest of them is that they are five points off Manchester City at the top of the table, two points behind Arsenal. They're in third place in the table. And the thing is this doesn't look like a a false position in terms of the performances that we've seen from them. >> No, but now what's going to happen is that um you know they've shown how good they are, especially at home. And so teams will be be more wary of them now. They'll be they'll be saying, "Okay, we need to we need to be more compact against them. We need to make a take our chances against them because teams see them as a threat. Now it's going to be it's it's really exciting for Brighton because Brighton can just just keep going. At times last year they were quite streaky at times weren't they? >> Yeah of course but I think they're bit more wiser including for the manager they're great to watch but of course like any club particularly if maybe not the big huge clubs they need a bit of luck with injuries etc. Yeah, >> but they are so exciting to watch and we've got some really good experienced players as well and uh yeah to and they were treating up after 10 minutes. They're quick out of the blocks. They're in a great place. Let's hope they can keep it up. >> I I do hope that they can keep it up and give us a kind of like a a Leicester kind of energy. See how far that can go. I think that'd be pretty cool in this season of all seasons. >> What about just to pop your bubble a little bit? What about Crystal Palace and and the way that they've started the season and the difficulties that they're having and the the pressure on PS because of that? >> It's it's um seems like a very sad situation looking at a manager on the line just looks like he's a little bit out of his depth in what's going on. You can watch the defense, you watch the midfield, even some of the goals you saw today. Um the disorganization in the back midfield, the chances that's missed up front. It looks like for me a bunch of players that are just waiting for the inevitable. The things it just feels >> I still think it's a bit early for that. >> But I thought it was interesting that he said the players didn't understand the context of the game given that this is Brighton Palace. >> I know. But I still think interviews for managers he's still new to the league and it's >> might be second language. >> Yeah, I think that can be difficult on the back of a European game. So because of the success Palace have had over the last few years that that success brings different challenges and obviously play clubs will come and take your best players. So I I don't think I'd be panicking just yet. Shocking performance today and to be trled on after 10 minutes of course >> but some it's a bit of calmness. Give that give the man a chance. >> I hope it's it is a second language kind of thing because for them to for the Palace players to not understand >> they must have known that exactly players would. >> So you know what I mean? If we're going to be totally honest Palace are not really helping out the manager at the minute if we're going to look at what's going on. People could say maybe what he's coaching they don't understand. Whatever it is but at the moment they're not putting in a shift for this man.
