Hi everyone. I'm James Maddison [music] and these are my awards. >> [music] >> Madders, delighted to have you with us for the first episode of the awards show. How are you feeling ahead of this momentous occasion? >> It's a big occasion. I'll be looking forward to it. >> Loving the >> Loving the cards, the cue cards, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Gone all out. Budget budget done already. >> The first category is best current celebration in the Premier League. >> You've gone >> with Erling Haaland. Okay, the meditation one. I like that. >> one. I just think that's probably the most iconic one. The ones I was thinking of were >> What? >> obviously the old darts. I mean, that [music] was in the thought process. >> You're up there, aren't you? >> Couldn't write Couldn't write me out. Cole and Morgan have obviously got their cold one. But, I think just Haaland's is probably the most iconic one. >> I don't you mean >> springs to mind. [music] And he scores loads. He don't even always do it, does he? Sometimes he He sometimes does it and sometimes he don't. He scores that many. >> He's a very calm celebration in big moments. >> I just like that celebration. >> Yeah. I [music] think he looks good like he always >> It's always a good picture as well, so >> Yeah. >> give it to big Erling. >> Love that. Honorable mention Acuña the surfing as well. >> Acuña surfing one, yeah. That's a good one, actually. >> Yeah. But, Haaland takes >> Kudos on the stool as well. I forgot about that one. >> Yes. Yeah. >> on the spot. But, Haaland can have that one. >> Who are you awarding the James Maddison award for the best [music] number 10 in the world? >> Oof. Some strong contenders, but for you right now, who's the best number 10 in the world? >> You've gone for >> Jude Bellingham. >> I thought you'd [music] go with Jude. Good mate of yours, of course. >> Yeah. >> What did you make Talk to me about his World Cup I I know that you've spoken >> glowing terms about him, about his ability. But, it seemed to [music] me he he raised it to an even bigger level there. I mean, what a World Cup he >> That's what That's what the best players do, don't they? They just like they raise their game on the highest stages and not even just the World Cup. I think over the last few years Jude's just [music] He just has it all kind of thing, don't he? Like it's just so much quality, so much strength, so much power. There isn't really a weakness there. You can try and nitpick all you want, but it kind of comes out in glowing terms in everything he does. [music] Especially when you're around him, he's infectious, man. >> Is what's he like? You trained with him, you know him well. >> It's just infectious. He's got so much self-belief and he drives the people around him. You can see that when you're watching [music] England in the summer, you can see that Jude was just wanting the responsibility, him and Harry, to put the country almost [music] on their back and and he showed that and produced it. >> Did you speak to him during or after? >> Yeah, I was texting him a lot during the >> Yeah, what was he saying? >> He loves talking about football. That's why I love Jude [music] as well. Like, he's just genuinely we debrief games texting for like 15 minutes straight without leaving the chat and then I'd leave him alone. You know what I mean? Day after the Mexico [music] game, we were texting about it cuz obviously that was an That was an amazing one. I think after one of the other ones as [music] well, we were just texting back and forth cuz I like getting his opinion on things as well cuz he's He's level-headed as well, you know? He's He's can be critical of himself. I just >> [music] >> think the world of him as a player and a person and the longer he plays for England, the better chance we've got of of winning something. >> Well said. I love that you're having debriefs about the game as well. Love that. Next up, ooh, okay. Best player in the Premier League. >> I'm going to base it >> [music] >> off the last season, okay? And just it's my It's It's my awards, isn't it? It's my opinion, so I can't be wrong. >> That's a very good point. Bruno Fernandes. >> Unbelievable the season. >> Bruno Fernandes [music] for me. Haaland, honorable mention to Erling Haaland as well, obviously he's unbelievable. But last season, Bruno [music] was just got so much quality. He's so no fear he plays. He try It doesn't matter how many times he gives the ball [music] away, he's just still wants the responsibility of the ball. He's always trying, he's got so much quality. Always scores >> [music] >> Always does the numbers as well. Always being available. He's just a brilliant player who I love watching him. >> So in your last chance, you mentioned Jude, you mentioned [music] Bruno, they're two very creative players. You are a very creative player yourself. You said you're a fan of the game, you like studying it. Do you gain a lot from watching other players [music] in those positions for your for your own game? >> Yeah, yeah, definitely. One thing about Bruno Fernandes that I love is [music] the the runs he makes in behind. He just makes so many good runs cuz he's not a fast player, is he, Bruno? But [music] the timing of his deep runs almost past the striker, past the back line. He gets a lot of [music] chances and creates a lot of opportunities for himself and others to score from his deep runs. And I noticed that years ago and tried almost [music] adding it to my game. And the season before last, the season before the injury, I scored a lot of goals from running in behind. So you're always trying to learn, take take stuff [music] from the best players like him. >> Love that. Anyone you're tipping to have a good season? There's a lot of transfers, a lot of lot of movement in this window. [music] Anyone you're tipping to have a bit of a breakthrough season? >> I think Alexander Isak might have a good season. >> Really? >> He's had his year of like >> Yeah, yeah. >> Like he's high quality [music] number nine, so >> For the James Maddison awards, the next category is best Sky pundit. >> Woof. >> Some strong contenders. [music] >> Oh god. >> I know where you're going to go with this. I know where he's going with this. The James Maddison award goes [music] to Roy Keane. >> Oh Roy Keane. >> I'll explain. [music] >> Go on. >> Cuz I know we me and Roy we had a banter over there. >> Yeah, tell us about the relationship with you and Keano. >> I've never I don't know if I've ever actually met Roy Keane in person. No, no. But obviously he's going to give me a bit of stick a few times, which which is absolutely fine [music] cuz they're pundits. That's what they get paid to do. That's fine. You can never get caught too caught up in that, you know what I mean? Like you you need to but obviously I I had a little bite back [music] and had a bit of banter with him, which was absolutely fine. We were all fine about it. Um he actually sent me a nice he he he actually got a message to [music] me from someone who we have a mutual when I did my cruciate and sent me a nice message wishing me luck with the rehab, which I really appreciate. >> Oh did he? That's nice. >> But anyway, back to the answer. I'm on the sofa on Sunday and and the footy's on. Roy Keane's my favorite to watch cuz he's box [music] office, isn't he? You know what I mean? You know you know what you're going to get with him. He's going to be controversial. He's going to probably hammer someone. He's You know what he's like. He's box office. He's He's what you pay to watch. >> It's his job, isn't it? >> [laughter] >> Jamie Carragher's probably the best pundit in terms of detail, I think. >> [music] >> In terms of that. >> I thought you'd go with Carra because of the relationship you had a bit of banter with him. >> Yeah, yeah, no, no. I love Yeah, no, but Carra's a great pundit. He He He can tell [music] he knows the game inside and out. I've sat with him on Monday Night Football with him as well. So I know he I know he knows what he's talking about and he's and he's detailed and like >> [music] >> very thorough in his analysis and I normally find myself agreeing with him. >> Yeah. >> But on a Sunday when I'm at home, if I'm watching [music] as a fan, say there's a Super Sunday on, I want Roy Keane to be on the panel because that's that's why I enjoy watching, you know what I mean? >> Yeah, love that. Punditry [music] for you? You you did well on M M and F, you seemed to enjoy it. >> know. I don't know. It was it it was actually more work than I thought it was before. >> Oh, really? >> So, fair play to the pundits at Sky [laughter] cuz they there's more work than what I thought it was, but uh who knows? Watch this space. Too many years playing left yet. >> Next up. James Maddison award for the best striker in the world right now. We've got nominees for this. We've got the three nominees. I think you know where we're going. >> I don't know. >> Kane, Haaland, Mbappé. You don't even need to hear the nominees. >> I don't need that. >> This is the quickest award. James Maddison award goes to Harry Kane, best striker in the world. The quickest you've answered any question, why Harry Kane? >> Well, you just have to watch [music] him, don't you? >> Yeah, totally agree. >> Unbelievable player, Harry. >> Just >> Just so much quality, like he's he's a goalscorer, he's a creator, he defends, his numbers are ridic- How many goals has he scored? >> 73. >> 73 goals last season. >> Which by the way has only ever been surpassed once by Messi. >> Yeah. >> Exactly the same, isn't it? >> Yeah, a massive club at the World Cup. >> [music] >> His quality and his finishing and his his pass range, his assists. >> Yeah, I agree. >> [music] >> Just unbelievable, like you can't get a better all-around center forward than him. >> Do you think he should win the Ballon d'Or cuz for me I totally agree [music] with that. I can't believe there's even a debate when a player's scored 73 goals in a season [music] about whether they should win the Ballon d'Or or not. And also when you think there's probably not there's obviously some great players, but there isn't really a standout other contender. >> the first year you think that [music] it's probably up for grabs, isn't it? Normally in the last few years I've kind of been we kind of know who's >> Exactly. >> No, I think he should, yeah. I mean yeah. He obviously won the Bundesliga. They [music] won the cup there as well, which they haven't Bayern actually haven't won that cup in ages, I don't think. >> No. >> Like cuz there's only one domestic cup [music] in Germany, right? So, and I I don't think Bayern have won that for years and years, so >> He's got to hack it in the final. >> Just just in big games, in Champions League games, like he's just he's just so much quality He's got too much [music] quality for him not to not to win that award and better than the Ballon d'Or this. >> James Maddison award, the most important award. I agree with that one. Spot on. Right, [music] next up. Most skillful at Tottenham. >> Oof. Few contenders there as well. >> Smithy, you're a Tottenham fan, aren't you? >> I am. >> So, why don't you guess my answer then? >> Ooh, I love that. Uh >> Who Who do Who do you think it is and who do you think I'm going to say? >> I think you will say, okay. I wonder whether you go down a mate route here. You You go and I think you will say Kulu. >> Okay, and what That's what you think I'm going to say. And what do you What do you think the actual >> Who do I think? Chuck you in the mixer? >> No, no. Just get rid of me. So, say >> No, I would chuck you in the mixer. [music] Would you go Archie Gray? >> He He He come into my thinking. I didn't. I went with Mathys Tel. [music] >> Did you? Go on. >> Just Just super quick feet. Super quick. Very good one-v-one. So, when even today we did small-sided games, [music] yeah, his feet are so sharp. Like, one-v-one. If we can get Mathys into one-v-one situations [music] more, I think you'll see the best of him. You know what I mean? Especially if this year with with this manager, we're playing more attacking football, which we will be. If we can get [music] the him the ball a lot, he could he could torment some fullbacks, I think. Great great quick feet, so. [music] >> And the gaffer, seems like you've got a great relationship with the gaffer. What's he been like since he's coming? >> It's been unbelievable, yeah. He's just He's so passionate about what he does, you know what I mean? He's like He can He can make He just connects with people well, [music] you know? Especially in the meetings and stuff like that. He's just Tactically, obviously, very very clever. And the way he wants to play can [music] resonate with a lot of people. Because he wants to have the ball. He wants to dominate possession and stuff, which we all love doing. And you want to practice [music] that, you know what I mean? You don't just want to practice defending and set pieces, which you do have to do at times as well. But, when your [music] manager's philosophy and influence is that, you can you can really get on board. And he's so [music] passionate, so you just feel a connection with him, yeah. >> Bit of a lighthearted one now. Who takes the James Maddison teacher's [music] pet award? Who's the teacher's pet? >> Who's first? Yeah. But, it it's not always a bad thing, by the way. Although, it's not one that speaks to mine. >> No, oh, there's there's a few. >> [laughter] >> Go on. The answer is JP van Hecke. >> Really? >> Go on. >> Yeah. And I know he's just joined. >> But they've met each other. [music] >> Yeah. But there's a the hug he gets in the morning is a different sort of hug to the rest of the lads. >> Go on, explain. >> It's like a father hugging his son, you know? >> Wow. >> It's uh obviously worked together at Brighton. He obviously JP's a great player. [music] Obviously he's going to be a fan of him, but brought him to his second club as well. So we give JP a bit of stick about that. >> Love that. Different kind of hug. >> Yeah, yeah. Fair play. >> The next award is for the best trim in football. As always, you can put yourself down. >> No. >> Must trim. Must be happy with your trim at the minute. >> Yeah, I mean something something something different, you know what I mean? I'm definitely not going to put myself down though. >> Nice mate. >> Going to keep it local cuz I can't I can't think either. >> The James Maddison award for the best trim in football goes >> Conor Gallagher. >> Conor Gallagher. >> Conor Gallagher. He's just won it to you though, guys. >> Yeah, but he's got great hair, you know what I mean? He's just like he's got good thick [music] long hair that suits him. Suits his style, the way he does and that, so give that one to him. >> you might have gone Jack Jack Grealish, the ponytail, good mate of yours as well. >> Yeah, no. I mean Jack's obviously got a solid trim as well, but not not the biggest fan of like the the knotted >> Right. >> tie up. >> Yeah. >> With the short on the side. It suits him, I mean [music] I can't have that short on the sides, but >> But he to be fair, Grealish could have won, couldn't he? >> Jack Jack could have had one, but I'm giving it keeping it local [music] with Spurs. >> The next award is for the best football golfer. You obviously have the Maddison Invitational. You get to see a lot of golfers celebrity wise. Maybe we put footballer footballer first, then we'll look at celebrities. Best footballer at golf first of all. >> Best footballer at golf. >> I think I know who you're going to put. >> Yeah, you do. Current footballer. >> he's going to write. I'm not looking. Matty Cash. >> [laughter] >> It is Matty Cash cuz I've seen you rave about how good he is. How good is he? >> Yeah, no, mate. He just >> [music] >> He's an unbelievable golfer. >> Is he? >> He's one of them, you know, who's just talented at all the sports and that. Like cuz I know he's good at like snooker and darts and as well like he's just one of them who's good at everything. [music] I played golf with him in the summer to be fair. >> Yeah, he's just striping it about like he's like a Yeah, he scratch like plus plus handicap [music] or something. He's so good annoyingly good. You know what I mean? Every shot is just straight man in the trees and hacking out of bunkers and stuff and he's just making birdie after birdie like it's nothing. Yeah, so classy for that one. >> What about celebrities cuz you've had some huge names at your golf event. So best or worst celebrity golfer? There's quite an iconic clip of Michael McIntyre chipping a ball and falling [music] into a bush. Love Michael McIntyre. Is it fair to say he might be lower down the pecking order? >> He's actually all right. He's all right. I mean that he didn't cover himself in glory there. [laughter] >> We'll show that clip. >> Listen, I haven't played with them all though obviously. I mean they they played in the day. >> Yeah. >> So I'll have to go off someone I've played with. >> [music] >> Yeah, I'm going to go with Niall Horan. >> Niall Horan? >> Niall from One Direction. >> Good name dropping at that. >> Yeah, cuz I played with him >> [music] >> in the summer just gone. Good lad Niall as well. But he's a good golfer. He's he's a low handicap. But he strikes it really well and you can tell he like plays and practices and that. Like [music] he's got a nice swing and like he's a good golfer so we'll give that one a >> Love it. Madders, that does complete the James Maddison Awards. Uh anyone you'd like to thank for the awards? >> Just all my family at home for this prestigious moment. >> Thank you very much. And you can keep the cue cards. Thank you. >> Top man, mate. >> Cheers, mate. >> Good to see you, pal. Love that.
