Matias, we have had so many questions sent in by your fans, Newcastle fans, Premier League fans. Ready for this? Of >> course. >> Let's get into it then. The first one, who is your coaching idol? >> Coaching idol, I think it would be not fair to name one. Okay. >> I think I had many idols, many mentors. Of course, life hang one of them. Thomas Tuler as he was my youth coach but also many others. >> That's crazy that Thomas was that under 16s. >> Yes. >> What was that like having Thomas Tuk as your coach under 16s? >> It was uh already seen that he's a top coach. I would say now I need to say it. But uh no honestly it was a great experience there as a youth player. uh he he teached us many many good things and uh really really uh detail orientated. So that was obviously back then already. >> The next one I think flows quite well into that. How good was Matias Yasler the player? >> Oh, you should ask Thomas. >> We're getting on the phone. Thomas, what would you say? What would he say about you? >> Ah, it's difficult to judge uh yourself actually. I don't like that. Okay. >> Um I think I was a decent player. Um unfortunately many serious injuries um came along the way so I needed to stop. >> Do you think you get a game today for Newcastle? [laughter] >> I would love to in front of that fan base. The playing style would would have fit me. >> Yeah, I totally agree. Having watched some of some of the clips online you can go and find. I would agree. Uh how would you describe Yisler ball to someone who hasn't seen it? So what's your footballing philosophy? >> Yeah, really really close linked to the philosophy of the club. I don't like to say I ball. I would more uh emphasize and like to hear the Newcastle United ball. Um as we have a clear DNA as a club and of course we want to be aggressive, intense, front footed, really vertical in our approach uh when we have the ball. So these are the attributes, the aspects how our playing style should look like. >> Next one. Have you heard the chant, can he boogie? >> [laughter] [cheering] >> Yes, I heard it. >> Everybody I promise you everybody on the Instagram post on YouTube was asking about this jump. Can you give us a little bit of it? >> It's better if I'm not singing. Okay, fair enough. I enjoy I enjoy I enjoy hearing it and I really appreciate um the the love the fans giving me. So again, I appreciate that and it's a huge privilege. Um, the next one I would say was the second most asked question. Have you tried Greg's yet? And if so, what did you get? >> Uh, you need to help me with that. >> Okay. Gregs is like a sort of like a bakery, a pastry shop, but they also serve things like sausage rolls and, you know, steak bakes. >> Okay. No, I didn't try I if I would say so. So, I'm more on the healthy side, [laughter] but uh I saw it I saw it already I think in first match day um in my in my manager office. >> Uh next question. What surprised you the most about the Premier League since joining? >> Uh I not surprised um with anything as I expected already a lot, but of course playing at home uh it's something really special. Yeah, >> this this atmosphere um it's it's just unbelievable and in general the quality of of that league, you know, small margins are deciding games. This is special. >> And what about coming up against some of the other coaches as well? Because I know the quality of coaching in the league feels like little tweaks have huge impacts right now. >> Yeah, for sure. especially um like you mentioned the quality of the coaches it's also on a top top level and like I said small margins are deciding games and you see that the other colleagues they try to find any space from the opposition that try to find some weaknesses straight away and you need to be be flexible you need to adjust straight away >> okay perfect did Alan Sheira call you before you arrived >> not before >> but after >> no also uh not after but uh yeah I reached out to him okay >> as he's a pure legend of the club and we we found some time to have a small chat >> how did that conversation go >> good but confidential >> okay I'm not going to press anymore I'm not going to press anymore uh off the back of that I suppose what Jordy words have you learned so far >> I'm uh like I'm still struggling a bit with that one >> but uh Howie, let's uh say something clear. Of course, I need to use that. >> Have you met anybody in the street who has been like you've been like what? Your accent is so strong. I'm struggling to understand. >> Uh yeah, it happened a couple of times already. >> Okay. What about in the squad? Has anybody got any accents in the squad that you're still a bit like? >> At least when they talking to me, they >> they speaking uh they're speaking on a on a higher level English, so I'm understanding them. What's one thing fans wouldn't realize is the hardest about a transfer window as a manager? >> Oh, good question. I think it's a busy time. >> Um, especially because you have the daily >> uh workload as a manager and you need to, you know, focus on on your team on your current squad and especially >> the last window was hectic uh as we joined really late. But then also you need to you know like be in touch with potential new signings. You need to be involved in the scouting and the recruitment process. So it's a tough period but we handle it uh on a on a high level. So big compliment again for Ross and his team. >> So how do you find that balance personally? Is it tricky to manage, you know, coaching and then having to be on the phone and >> Yeah, of course. It's a a busy time, but I like that if you can influence the the squad and if you are able to work so closely um together with uh with the sport director and the management, that's something I really enjoyed. >> What are the three key things you look for in a player? It depends uh what profile and which position we're searching but overall there's also the human being behind them. This is something we we emphasize always also the scouting department that we need to identify the players who fitting also on on that level in our squad when it comes for the key values um trust respect and commitment. So if we can see that in our scouting procedure then it helps a lot and of course then on a later stage when you engage with the players you find these things out. So these elements are really important for me. Uh what do you listen to in the car on the way to training? >> Often podcast just getting inspired some new inputs but uh sometimes also actually there's just calmness silence. >> Yes, silence. I enjoy that also reflecting a little bit the day especially when I'm leaving the training ground that helps me. >> Let's talk about the podcast though. What podcasts have you got on the go at the moment? >> Yeah, different one. uh the high performer performance podcast I like to listen but also various >> different ones sometimes just [music] episodes uh where I'm interested in. So yeah, it's curious >> any true crime podcasts that's like a big thing at the moment >> for you for me. Not [laughter] >> okay. No, fair enough. We'll stick with high performance. Uh how do you create a close bond with a new team so quickly? First of all, I think it's a big part from the player side and we saw that here in Newcastle straight away that openness uh really open-minded for the new ideas that helps a lot to bring two sides together. Um but also for our side as a coaching team it's a lot of um times much more important I would say to listen yeah to let them speak to ask good questions [music] rather than just us talking a lot >> and when you say listening and asking good questions and things is that coming like team meetings that come in oneto ones how does that work from a football fan I wouldn't >> really individual you have the team meetings but you have also a lot of >> one-on-one talks uh sometimes comes to small one one minute talks are more important than than the tactical world. >> Perfect. Uh final question then. What do you do to relax in your downtime at home? >> Well, I meditate. I try to yeah to find the peace and the the silence also there. Uh I think it's important to have that right balance between the stressful busy job um the loads of emotions at the match day or in the training ground and then >> the private life as well. I like to do sport a bit to to get the the head uh shut down. So yeah, it's fine. >> What other sports do you play? >> Uh well, if the time's allowed, may I I swing uh a little bit the the golf. Oh, do you >> the golf but also going just in the gym or having a a jog. It's fine. >> We're going to have to get you out on the golf course. Have you seen any of the other guys? Any players playing at the moment? There's some good players in this squad. No. >> Yes. >> How's your golf game? You good? >> It's fine. >> It's fine. Okay. I reckon it's better than fine. I'm convinced. Cheers. Not bad. Thank you. Cheers. Thanks.
