Oh, what a night. Uh 63 goals in 13 games we've watched here on uh Soccer Special tonight, averaging nearly five a game. Brilliant entertainment. Where should we start? Uh let's start with Michael Dawson, who um you always enjoy your job tonight. Thank you, Michael. Tonight, as I said, you're like a small boy at Christmas. Listen, Manchester City have lost it as a game of football. That was something else, wasn't it? >> Oh my word. That was certainly up there. We won the best. serious first first half PSG and absolutely blew Manchester City away. The three in the middle of the pack which I have to say Fabian Ruiz, Foutinia and Zeremy I mean the two in the middle of the park for for Manchester couldn't cop with them. They were far superior. Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez struggled. I mean and then at Halime Manchester City 3-0 down. What do they do? They make a triple substitution. Badi I have to say this young man is some talent. He came on and dictated the game. He broke everything up. He stopped every counterattack. Nunes at right back. Uh and then Jai within a blink of an eye, 25 seconds in, but why he plays the ball through to Harland, he has an attempt. Enzo Fernandez has an opportunity. And you're thinking, I said to Hendo here, I said, "If they score the next goal, this is going to be game on." And what a 45 minutes that was of football. They had opportunities. They lose the game 4-2, but it could quite easily been four 5-4 to Manchester City. Really, really could. It was end to end. Harland gets two. Another record for him taking over from from Aguero getting his 37 to 38th Champions League goal. Incredible from start to finish. I loved every minute of it and then it ended up with a missed penalty from uh Ferane Torres. I mean I thought Fatinhi was going to take it. He gets clipped. A good bit of play on the counterattack and it probably was Nunz actually slides in. He misses with his leg but he catches uh New Mendes with his arm. He goes down and you think here we go. It's going to be 5-2. Donnaruma makes a save, but I have to say he has to save the the fourth goal. When he makes a save from uh Agluchi up to his right, it's it's a good height. He gets a solid hand, puts it up in the eight, bounces and goes over the line. When that goal went in from 3-1 to 4-1, that's when I call game over. And they still had opportunities Manchester City. But I tell you what, when you watch these two two teams go have it, they give entertainment. And to be fair to Man City in the first half, they never had a shot on target. They came out. what Enzo Moresca must have said at Halime, turning fortune. Get at them, turn at them. Uh, and obviously they lost for 4-2, but certainly an enjoyable game of football for myself. >> Yeah. And the fact that although Manchester City hit the frame with the goal something like three times, you know, the fact that PSG the holders have been up against it for so much of that second half and yet still leave the Etiad with a 4-2 win. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Inc. Incredible. Incredible for them. I said on the on the transition I worried for Manchester City because they were chucking everyone forward and it was in the blink of an eye one pass. I mean your left back to get the penalty is high up the play the play. He feel plays a one two and they get caught. Hakee in the first half was playing more like a center forward than was a right back. He had a header that hit the uh the post. He had a shot from the edge of the box and actually right back in the in the second half when Jai came on he was nowhere near at the top end of the the field. He was backing right back and they were under serious pressure. But in the in the end uh they go away with a 4-2 victory. Great Champions League. >> I wonder if Gary O'Neal was watching that. I'm sure he was tonight ahead of Ipsswitch's visit. >> Let's hope he's the tire for the weekend. See, that's what Ipsswitch are hoping. >> Yeah, they will be, won't they? It was quite incredible. Quite incredible. The holders rampant in the first half. City really going at them in the second. Harland could have had a hat-tick. Uh it could have been six all. It could could have been anything, couldn't it? But it's PSG who have backto-back wins. The holders looking hot. Uh Aston Villa very impressive tonight. They hit six against Fenabachce. Rachel Corsy the former Villa women's captain watched it. How much did you enjoy that Rachel? >> Oh thoroughly and you know record performance in the record result in the competition and it it was a fairly open game actually. You know, the score line suggests it was very one-sided, but we see their possession. Fenerbachi shaded it and at least two of the goals came from, you know, Villa actually picking the pocket of those central midfielders from Fenbach that were dropping and getting it and they were very clinical and they went in 3-0 at halftime, but probably at halftime, you would have said Fenerbachi were unfortunate to be, you know, potentially out the game at that point. Um, and it was really, it was a kind of typical European performance, I think, from a Villa team where they show the level they're capable of and and just that extra gear they can find and how clinical they were. The two goals from Jackson were were two wonderful finishes. Really can tell he's enjoying his time and his opportunity to get a lot of minutes. Manzambi opened to scoring. He just looked like he's he's just unleashed this this new found sense of charisma and and real character and how he plays charisma carries and the little you know he knows when to do a little step over and turn his player but he also knows he he loads of times he just fed a quick through ball to Jackson or fed one outside to him by they asked loads of questions. McGin involved in goals again his his record and how he contributes in that final third again you know breaking records there too was it was a very good villa performance I think I don't think I mentioned Juan Maka for most of the game but he's obviously had to go in and fill in at left back and he might need to do that with the injuries to Roger and Matson that potentially keep them out for a little while looked very very comfortable again contributed higher up but defensively really solid Suzuki pulled out a couple of saves as well so when you go across the whole board it was it was a very very good performance. Substitutes came on. Allison did really well off the right created that final goal and the only real blemish was the fact Barkley who got two goals. One from the penalty spot. One wonderful finish in the edge of the box of his left foot. He looked like he tweaked a hamstring or a hip flexor just trying to reach to sort of retrieve the ball again after he lost it on the edge of the box and he had to come off. We we got to see Geretska come on but that would be the only thing for Villa that will be a slight concern. and they really won't want to lose another player in that central area to injury, but 6nil performance keeps their record perfect in the Champions League. And when you look at the fixtures they have, you know, to go away to Barcelona, they've got PSG and they've got Dortmund. These first two games were a real opportunity to get points on the board and I think that puts him in a really strong position. >> Zambi scoring his 21st birthday by the way. Uh that's the biggest home win for Aston Villa in over 30 years. And just one final word with you, Rachel, because we started the night and I asked you, you know, it's a season or it's a time of transition with all these new players. They've lost players, they've brought players in, and I asked you if it was starting to click. Could a result and a performance like that tonight really be be liftoff now for Emory and Villa this season? >> Well, they hope so, but I I think that, you know, the score line speaks for itself, but to me, what was what really stood out was the togetherness and the the collective understanding on the pitch. like I say in the final third how good they were at at really hunting the ball down, winning it quickly in the in that opposition half and being able to quickly create opportunities from from very very little I thought was was a really high level in the Premier League I think you you don't get as many opportunities as Fabach gave Villa but equally I think there was there was a lot of really just positive encouraging performances individuals combining and and I think that's a team that that very much believes in what they're trying to do and they've not had in terms of results picked up the most momentum, but I reckon from a performance like that tonight, I I think you can expect if you're playing Villa in the next few weeks, you can expect them to be really coming out at you. >> Yeah. Well, it's Newcastle who face Villa at St. James's Park on Saturday. And then Villa's next European game next midweek is a visit from Viking, the Norwegian side, who don't forget drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich um last night. So, that'll be an interesting one. But on this form, Villa could be a match for almost anyone. 6nil they've won at Villa Park tonight. So, six goals there, six goals at the Etihad, seven goals at the Stadio Olympico, Roma three, Mourinho's Real Madrid four as he wins on his return to his old club. They were 3-1 down after 82 minutes. I asked you before the game, is the Champions League better off with Mourinho in it? There's your answer. >> Of course, it is. I mean, everything that that shouts out about Mourinho was was there tonight. I mean, I thought they were really really poor, but it just shows when he has to flip the switch, when he has to look at his bench, which they've got massive uh strength in depth, you know, he does that and he just throws a kitchen sink at it, don't he? And and that's what he did. You know, he bought Enrich on, I thought, really changed the game uh for lots of reasons. I think the the front three in the first half um until the changes were made into the second half I thought were very very poor. Venicious didn't literally get involved in the game at all and be non-existent and that was credit to the way that Roma set up. You know they they ask questions. I just thought they look disjointed Real Madrid at times, but it just shows that, you know, when that does click and when they do play more forward, expansive, exciting football, they can blow teams away. And that's what really surprises me. And I think with Mourinho's mentality and his his defensive mentality, you do have to say that he has to start focusing on what he's got in them forward areas cuz, you know, leaving it that late, it it can't always happen, but they're capable of doing it with the players that they've got. you know, the subs that he made, Gouier, he made two assists, Hendrick scored, you know, the subs that come on made that massive impact for the game. I've got to say, Maron was excellent for for Roma as well. For long periods, they they looked like they were going to go ahead and win it. Watching their faces at the end, Jules was like, they were just gobsmacked. Absolutely gobsmacked. Poor defending. Um, but Mourinho when he has to do it and when he has to make big calls and big decisions, he does. Cuz that could have easily ended up four or five. It hasn't. They've won away four three winners. Unbelievable game. >> And you look at some of the results of the likes of PSG uh this midweek and Barcelona. Real Madrid, you know, I mentioned before Marino's never won this with Real Madrid. Three semi-final appearances, but he's got Bellingham. He's got Mbappe. He's got Valverie. >> Could they? >> I said to Dors, I don't think they can. I don't think they can. No, not at all. I don't I just I don't think there's I think for all the stars they've got there, I don't think there's enough togetherness there. I don't see that as a platform that they can go, oh, they could blow PSG away. They could blow Man City away. I don't see that at all. I think when they have to dig deep like they have done tonight, yes, I think they've half got away with it because I think if you're coming up against a Man City, that could have easily been a ridiculous score against the Real Madrid side. So, that question for all the superstars they've got, yeah, they'll win games, but not for me. Definitely not.
