Reaction to UEFA increasing pressure on Gianni Infantino & demanding answers about FIFA presidency
Sky Sports News: UEFA steps up pressure on Infantino and demands answers about his FIFA presidency
The video discusses the Daily Telegraph report that Infantino has a two-week deadline to come clean and UEFA's 42-question letter to FIFA. The guests argue that Infantino is unlikely to answer fully and that, with no realistic challenger yet, he may still survive and keep the FIFA presidency despite the scandals.
- UEFA's 42-question letter is the latest move in the power struggle between UEFA and FIFA, and giving Donald Trump the FIFA peace prize has raised eyebrows in football and politics. — UEFA is pressing FIFA over controversies including the plan to sell off the World Cup, the red-card scandal during the tournament and the peace prize.
- Infantino is unlikely to answer the questions with the relevant documents; the real issue is who will stand against him, and no one has come forward so far. — He still has wide support outside Europe, UEFA has not put up a candidate, and the deadline is only about a month away.
- The situation has turned around: Infantino may now have the votes and could get through without an opponent. — A few months ago he looked finished by the scandals, but now he faces no challenger and UEFA has not named a candidate.
- The second deadline in November is a false deadline; FIFA will not care and may not even reply, and Infantino now looks likely to survive the storm and stay in office. — Infantino is in a strong position again and there is no realistic candidate to challenge him.
- UEFA are entitled to take the moral high ground over the questionable decisions of the past year or so, and they should not be blamed for doing everything they can to apply pressure. — Some of the decisions linked to Infantino are questionable, to say the least.

What about FIFA? Let's talk about that. The back page of the Daily Telegraph, uh this ongoing story here, uh here's the headline. Infantino's two week deadline to come clean and it's all about the fallout between UEFA and FIFA. Uh Sam, what are your thoughts on this? Yeah. So, this is the story which follows on from last week when the the FA put a lot of pressure on Infantino to release documents related to the various scandals in which he was involved in the summer. And now that's being followed up by UEFA who have sent a written demand which includes 42 questions on the various controversies that Infantino has been dealing with um including as everyone I'm sure is aware the the plan to effectively sell off the World Cup the following Balagan red card scandal during the tournament and then also the the FIFA peace prize given to Donald Trump which I think is uh safe to say raised a few eyebrows across the world of football and in the world of politics. So effectively this is the latest installment in the battle between UEFA and FIFA. What UEFA want is for FIF for Infantino to be dethroned and to be removed in the presidential election which takes place next year. Obviously Infantino doesn't want that and he has plenty of support around the world just not from Europe. But the big question here really is not so much in my opinion whether he answers these questions with the relevant documents or not because I would suspect he's not going to do that. But the question is who is going to stand against him if anyone because as of right now at the time of speaking no one has come forward. UA have not put forward a candidate and the deadline for that is in a month I think a month yesterday. So they're going to need to do so pretty soon if there's going to be anyone to challenge in fact. It does seem strange that a few months ago it seemed like he was absolutely finished really that he couldn't survive the scandals he had become embroiled in. But now we're sitting here and thinking he actually might have the votes and he as it stands as I say he has no opposition. So this one keeps rumbling on and I think this UEFA letter is is the next kind of power play in that battle in that war between the two. >> Charlie, I mean how how is this going to be resolved? Is there a danger this fallout between UEFA and FIFA could spell the end for for a World Cup with European teams or could it get to that point or how do you think it'll all resolve itself? >> Well, you know, we've had threats before, you know, about about when it first blew up the the situation after the World Cup about the European teams not taking part in in FIFA tournaments. Look, this this November the the second deadline's a bit strange because it's just it's a false deadline, isn't it? You know, FIFA aren't going to care. I'll be stunned if they bother replying because all of a sudden, Infantino is in a strong position again. Uh and you know, as Sam said, you know, there doesn't seem to be any realistic candidate uh that's going to challenge Infantino. So it just looks as though he's going to, you know, just just overcome the storm where I think we all thought, you know, he he was toast and and we would be getting someone in his place. So he ludicrously despite what's happened, he's still seems to be in quite a strong position, which I still can't really work out. So UEFA are trying absolutely everything and I don't blame them as well because they they've obviously you know quite right to take the moral high ground uh with you know some of the questionable decisions uh to say the least over the last year or so. Uh but Infantino now looks to be a stayer I think. >> Okay guys, thank you very much. We're going to take a very quick break now, but when we come back, we'll look at more of these uh huge
