Kylian Mbappe is doing something at the World Cup that almost doesn't feel real. Because when we talk about World Cup greatness, we're usually talking about the players of the past, the likes of Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo Nazario, Miroslav Klose, and now Lionel Messi. But those are players whose World Cup stories were built over their entire career. In the case of Mbappe, the guy's only 27 years old, and he's already got so many World Cup records behind him. In today's video, we're going to be hunting down every World Cup record that Mbappe currently holds because this guy currently looks unstoppable. The first record that we're going to speak about is arguably the most impressive because Mbappe has more goals in World Cup finals than any other player throughout football history. As of right now, he's got four goals in finals having scored one against Croatia in 2018, and that unbelievable hat-trick against Argentina in 2022. That's more than the likes of Pele, Geoff Hurst, Lionel Messi, Zinedine Zidane have ever scored in finals. Mbappe is in a league of his own. Speaking of finals, that brings us to record number two. Mbappe is one of just three European players to have scored in more than one World Cup final having bagged in both the 2018 and 2022 finals. The only other European players who have managed this feat is Zinedine Zidane who scored in both the 1998 and 2006 final, and Germany's Paul Breitner who scored in 1974 and 1982. Record number three, following his recent brace against Sweden, Mbappe is now the all-time top goal scorer in the World Cup knockout stages. Having recently moved on to 10 knockout goals in just nine appearances, which is some going. For context, Pele scored seven World Cup knockout goals during his entire career. Eusebio scored six, Ronaldo Nazario scored eight. Mbappe's already ahead of all of those legendary names. Record number four is an impressive one as well. He has the most multi-goal games in World Cup history. On seven occasions, Mbappe has managed to score more than one goal during a World Cup match, which puts him out right in front for this record. And unsurprisingly, record number five, Mbappe has the most braces in World Cup history on six separate occasions Mbappe has scored a brace. Most players are lucky if they score one goal at a World Cup tournament, and you've got Mbappe over here scoring braces for fun. Record number six, Mbappe is one of only two men to have scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final, with the other being Geoff Hurst for England all the way back in 1966. But, record number seven's a bit of an unfortunate one. Mbappe is the only player to have ever scored a World Cup final hat-trick and not lift the trophy at the end of it. The 2022 final against Argentina was arguably the peak of football as we know it. Messi against Mbappe, one of the greatest comebacks of all time at one point from France who came from two goals down. Mbappe did practically everything in that match, but was still denied his fairy tale ending. Record number eight summarizes just how unlucky Mbappe was to lose that final as well. Not only is he the only player to score a World Cup final hat-trick and not win the game, he's the only player to have scored two or more goals in the final and not win the game. That's never happened before in World Cup history where someone has showed up that prominently on the final stage and still not lifted the trophy. Sticking with that final in 2022 for record number nine, Mbappe is the only player to score two penalties in a World Cup final. And they weren't just two random consolation penalties, either. One was when France were two-nil down and the pressure was on, the other in extra time. Most people would crumble under that pressure, especially against a penalty expert in Emi Martinez, but not Mbappe. Record number 10 is that Mbappe is the only European player to have scored in a World Cup final, World Cup final extra time, and in the penalty shootout, too. Now, obviously, shootout penalties don't count towards Mbappe's overall World Cup goal-scoring record, but the fact that he still converted his penalty in the shootout and ended up on the wrong side of that game sort of summarizes tournament. Record number 11 is that Mbappé is one of just five players to have scored in two different World Cup finals. And record number 12, he's only the second player in World Cup history to have scored in consecutive World Cup finals, the other being Vavá of Brazil, who scored in both the 1958 and 1962 finals, both of which he won. Record number 13 is that he's now France's all-time top World Cup goalscorer. This record used to belong to Juste Fontaine, who [snorts] scored 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup. And for decades, no French player has been able to come close to this record until Mbappé today. As of recording, Mbappé is now on 18 World Cup goals and certainly isn't done yet. Record number 14 is that Mbappé is also France's greatest ever World Cup knockout goalscorer. Context, that record used to belong to Fontaine, who scored seven goals in the knockout rounds. Record number 15 is that Mbappé is France's all-time top scorer in World Cup final history, a record which used to belong to Zinedine Zidane, who in total scored three goals. Mbappé is already on four, and we wouldn't be surprised if he adds to his tally this year, too. Record number 16 is that Mbappé is the youngest ever player to reach 10 World Cup goals, a record which was previously held by Germany's Gerd Müller, who scored his first 10 goals at the 1970 World Cup. But since Mbappé broke this record, he's not stopped there. He's also become the youngest ever player to score 11, 12, 14, 16, and now 18 World Cup goals. When's the guy going to stop? Probably not anytime soon. After that flurry of records, we're now up to record 22, and that's that Mbappé is France's youngest ever scorer at the World Cup. His first goal of the tournament came against Peru back in 2018, at which point I think most people recognized France had a superstar on their hands. Not only that, but Mbappé is also the only French teenager to ever score at the World Cup, with his first goal coming when he was just 19 years old. Prior to Mbappé scoring in 2018, no French teenager had ever scored at the tournament. And considering how many legendary youngsters France have had over the years, it's amazing no one had claimed that record before Mbappé. Record number 24, he became the first teenager since Pelé to score two goals in a World Cup knockout match. That obviously came against Argentina back in 2018, a legendary back-and-forth game. Most people saw that or at least thought that that was the sort of passing of the torch moment from Messi to Mbappé, especially with Mbappé going on to win that tournament. But Messi managed to get his revenge in the end, winning the 2022 final against Mbappé and France. And speaking of Pelé, he also applies to record number 25, as he and Mbappé are the only teenagers to ever score twice in a World Cup knockout match. When you're talking about World Cup greats, most people tend to gravitate towards Pelé because of his legendary record in the tournament. But when we look back at the record books, Mbappé's going to be right there alongside him for most things. Record number 26 is that Mbappé became the youngest player to score in a World Cup final since Pelé, obviously, when he bagged against Croatia in 2018. And record 27 also relates to that final, as Mbappé is just one of two teenagers to have ever scored in a World Cup final, of course with the other being Pelé. No matter where you look in the history books in terms of World Cup legacy, Mbappé's always right there with Pelé, isn't it? Record 28's quite an impressive one, and that's that Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé have now combined for more World Cup goals than any other duo in the tournament's history. As of recording, the duo have combined for six goals in total, with four assists from Dembélé to Mbappé and two in the opposite direction. Does that now mean Mbappé and Dembélé are the most iconic duo in World Cup history? Well, if they go all the way and win the tournament, it'll be hard to argue against it. Record number 29 is that of the players with 15 or more World Cup goals, Mbappé has the best goals to game ratio out of any of them. As of recording, the Frenchman has scored 18 goals in 18 matches, which is a superior record to Miroslav Klose who scored 16 in 24, or nine who scored 15 in 19, or Messi who as of recording has scored 19 in 29. I will point out though that both Gerd Müller and Just Fontaine do have a superior goals-to-game ratio in the World Cup to Mbappé, although neither of them players have 15 or more goals. And we'll finish with record number 30. Since making his World Cup debut, Mbappé has scored more goals at the tournament than any other player. 18 goals in 18 appearances. As of recording, he's only one behind Messi in terms of the all-time standings. And let's face it, by the time Mbappé does retire, he'll almost certainly have broken the outright record. He could even have it by the end of this tournament if he keeps up his current pace. The question we'll ask you guys in the comments down below is Mbappé already the best World Cup player of all time? Has he already done enough to justify that title? Or does it depend on what happens this tournament and maybe in 2028 as well? And maybe in 2030 as well. Let us know in the comments down below, but that'll wrap it up for today's video. Thank you very much for tuning in, and we'll see you all in the next one.
