[Music] [Music] thank you [Music] thank you hello and welcome to 442's World Cup in motion throughout the tournament various members of the 442 442 team will be going live as much as possible on our Twitter Facebook and YouTube channels talking through the action the goals the drama and all the biggest talking points from Qatar will also hopefully be joined by some special guests along the way too uh we're now on day four of the tournament hello to any viewers in Saudi Arabia hope you're enjoying your national holiday as granted following your famous Victory against Argentina yesterday oldest France started their defense yesterday looked impressive after a bit of a wobble at the start Russian finalists Croatia have just finished their game against Morocco Drew and Ill nil and we've got the prospect of Germany Spain and Belgium still to come on this day four of the 2022 World Cup joining me this lunchtime or staff writers Mark and Ryan and live from the FIFA World Cup Media Center in Qatar Wi-Fi uh permitting we've got senior staff writer Chris Flanagan Chris we'll start with you you were in the Lucille Stadium yesterday to witness one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history tell us about it uh yeah it was incredible I mean I think uh you know I think everyone's expecting Argentina to uh to win the game pretty comfortably and certainly when obviously they took Lane then I had those three goals disallowedness in the first half it looked like he was all going one way and then just that five minutes was just something I'll never forget I'm pretty sure everyone is in that Stadium will know if they get me it's the whole atmosphere around it changed it went from the Argentina fans back in Illinois suddenly the Saudi Arabia fans were going crazy but it was just an incredible atmosphere for the rest of the game and my name must have had at least at least 10 000 there inside the stadium maybe more and you could tell I mean it's the biggest result in their nation's history and they were they were definitely celebrating like it was and it was just yeah I mean that that second goal was just a just complete wow moment like no one saw that coming yeah yeah I don't think anyone anyone will forget that for a long time all no I mean it looked and sounded amazing on television so inside the stadium it must have been incredible that's where the final's going to be you were watching it from the Press Box what was the sort of reaction among the people around you you I'm assuming you were surrounded by some South American broadcasters some some Saudi Arabian broadcasters could could neither set of broadcasters believe what they were saying yeah I mean I think well it's uh you know it's an 80 000 Stadium I think pretty much the entire 80 000 could be couldn't believe what they were saying really it was just like I say it wasn't the fact that you know no one there's no hint of that coming in the first half whatsoever and then in five minutes just incredible and yeah I mean it was it was so loud I mean we like to say we were in the Press Box kind of tops here and it's a very impressive Stadium it's a huge Stadium um so I can imagine again for for the final one and the games are up until then the atmosphere will continue being great there but yeah it's so to have like so many awesome times in there making a lot of noise from the start and then oh this all the Saudi Arabian funds coming to life it was the two sets of funds that was you know easily the best atmosphere of the four games I've been at so far yeah it's incredible yeah so you've you've been to four games already um you've been in Qatar three or four days just give us a flavor of what it's like you know the weather the food your accommodation the atmosphere outside the ground fascinated to hear how it's all going yeah well I mean obviously you know during the day the weather's pretty hot but I guess the good thing is that most of the games are at night which is obviously once he gets uh once he gets past Darkness it gets a reasonable temperature and actually once you get inside the stadiums even during the day they've got the air con on so it's I even had to put a coat on so so it's not uh it's certainly not a problem for the players or anything in terms of Heats which hopefully through from England and Wales point of view will help um but yeah um so I've been staying in sort of an apartment Village for the first few first three days I think we all actually opened it you know the whole facility like two weeks ago you know new buildings and everything so it's still uh you can tell it's pretty uh pretty new and still I feel a bit rough around the edges in basketball but still very nice and you know no problems really though aircon there and everything so it's uh you know all different fans from 32 countries all in one little little village on the outskirts of the city in this apartment box that uh and they've got they've got kind of shuttle buses on to all the direct to the stadiums direct to the metro and stuff like that so actually from that point of view it's been pretty good tonight I'm gonna go to uh the infamous Forza cabins Village which might be a little bit different not to see as long as as long as there's aircon it'll be fine I believe there is so well like I say even if during the evenings it's not it's not ridiculously long it's it's still reasonably safe it's tolerable so um but yeah it's I I guess it's obviously with 32 sets of countries Sports is in one city it's been a bit manic yeah wherever you go there are thousands of thousands of people going all over the place I was gonna ask about that actually Chris uh obviously uh this you've done other tournaments for four four two and four how does this compare to something that you've done before given that the entirety of Qatar is smaller than Yorkshire and this is all like in a tiny tiny amount of Qatar how does this compare to to say you know the last World Cup the last couple of Euros how what's it like well very yeah very different I mean I I guess the the real contrast is obviously the last World Cup being in Russia um so obviously you know you might get two sets of funds in a in a city but you know the other 30 countries were all hundreds maybe thousands of miles away so you you didn't tend to see everyone all in one place you know for that so I remember I went to rostov and Goldberg in it in the south of the country which on the map look quite close together we took 23 hours on a train to get between the two of them so you don't have those issues here it's you know you can get you can get a taxi in half an hour here if you if you want to to the next Stadium it's obviously allowed me to go to two games a day which has been you know you don't get this you wouldn't be able to do this at any other tournaments that's been great yeah is the country coping well with with the um with all the fans who've descended on Qatar and Doha because that was an issue a bit of a worry wasn't it would the transport structure be able to Ferry everyone to all the stadiums it seems to be an okay from from my experience so far I mean that uh you know there are some cues to get to get on buses after their games and stuff but I guess you're probably going to get the most major tournaments anyway really so they certainly fought an awful lot of public transport on like I say they you know the direct the public transport to all different places to send to the city to various uh apartment Villages Etc all these different places these little Villages that fun to stay in and they've all got direct Buzz shuttles too so actually it's not been too bad from that point of view and I wasn't sure whether whether it be traffic chaos with having you know four matches a day all in the same city well actually it's not been too bad either um so yeah actually it's not been too bad from that point of view so far good and uh tell us about the games that you've been to obviously you're at the England game you're at Argentina you're at France Australia last night tell us about those and and how they differed did they feel the same or were they markedly different certainly the France Australia game was quite a contrast to Argentina Saudi Arabia in terms of atmosphere um it seems noticeable that uh probably the the biggest supported countries are from Mexico there seems to be thousands and thousands of Mexicans here way more than they must have an allocation for tickets for a lot of argentines obviously a lot of Saudi Arabians given and it's you know nearby uh there seems to be a lot of Japanese here for this game sit here today not not quite as many Europeans obviously Wales have brought quite a lot um but but normally tournaments a little bit more dominant by European fans that doesn't seem to be quite the case of this one so France Australia last night there weren't that many I mean they maybe still had like 5 000 each but it didn't dominate the state even quite the same way and there were still quite a lot of kind of empty seats so I think a few games they've announced the the official attendance is basically be in the capacity there's been a lot of energy so you think particularly France Australia game last night so there were definitely times during the France game last night where there were complete lulls in atmosphere um so I guess you know there's only so many locals who can who can fill the gaps in these games and with this with the score games a day they can only they can't go to the mall so it's you're probably going to get this for a few games I'd be interested to see what it can be like here today at Jeremy to be Japan it might be similar a lot of people like to say I suppose but um certainly like you know when Once the Mexicans or the South Americans get involved it's a lot a lot louder you're heading off to to Germany Japan very soon uh tell us about your plans for for the rest of the day and and for the rest of the week and some of the the content that you're going to be putting up on 442.com yes yes so oh well like I say I'm at Germany Japan now so I'm gonna head to my seats in a few minutes uh the right place for 442's website uh after the game and obviously I'll uh you know I'll keep uh putting stuff on Twitter and Instagram Etc from the games of kind of giving hopefully giving people a little bit of a flavor of what it's like to be here um and attending press conference as well seeing what uh managers have got to say for themselves after after these games obviously it was pretty humbling for Lionel scalone yesterday uh for the Argentina defeats and then this evening I'm going on to Belgium V Canada um tomorrow I've got Uruguay against South Korea then Brazil against uh Serbia in the evening and then on on Friday it's Wales against Iran and England the USA and then head home at the weekend so yeah 10 games in five days which uh I'll be pretty tired at the end of it but it's a great experience it's worth well worth doing so yeah but yeah that's that's interesting is the press conferences they are they all coming happening at the same place uh the the the managers ferried into the media center or or do you do those inside the stadium uh so we do them in a surprise like a press conference room in in inside the stadium yeah so if they bury them in about an hour after the game uh there is a central media place in the middle of Doha as well we do uh quite a few pre pretty much press conferences though actually when I went there the other day to just climate accreditation I fortunately happened to be there when um deschamps and Hugo and lauricewood in France's uh pretty much press conference nipped in for a few minutes to see that so and hopefully have a full translation things there for everyone's and stuff like that so it's yeah it's pretty well organized to be firm and you know all this all the staff and volunteers around the games have been pretty friendly and actually from that point of view it's probably a little bit better than for instance Russia where maybe not naturally Soul friendly from the volunteers and stuff but here it's you know people are trying their best to help us even though obviously you know it's a it's a big you know a lot of people in it all in one place and it's a lot for them to organize yeah okay sounds good well thanks for joining us and uh we'll we'll let you head off to to today's lunchtime game and we'll look forward to some of your articles coming on the website in in the next 24 48 Hours enjoy it all we're all very jealous no predictions give us prediction for Germany Japan I'll say 2-1 Germany yeah as long as it's not Neil nil yeah I've missed the three nil Nils so far good good brilliant okay speak to you soon cheers yeah there he goes off to where Germany versus uh Japan very jealous um so Lads let's um that is you know three nil Nils in in 24 hours not great Mark you've just posted a story on 442.com why are there fewer goals at this tournament tell us well there are competing fears about this catch and uh I think the the first one is obviously the biggest one of the biggest talking points in terms of the you know the football at Qatar is simply that is such a congested schedule I mean we heard Chris saying that there are four games a day and he can make two of them um the fact that uh teams now are coming into this tournament having played half a season had a week break and now having to face games every four days the the intensity is reduced obviously I think we've seen that from the England Iran game that obviously England went four one up and then decided to just make a quadruple change take off Saka take off uh obviously Kane came off a little bit later um so yeah the intensity is down but also I think one of the big factors in uh the goallessness of this tournament is simply that defenses are on top um France were pretty boring last time out in in Russia and actually set a template of how you can win the tournament by having a well-organized defense and difference makers in attack Southgate has been very honest about how he's trying to follow that template maybe a lot of other countries are too because it's easier to organize a defense than it is to try and get a well-oiled fluid attack it's much easier to to try and set your your backline out and you know organize that and get that perfect and it is to to try and organize some kind of ticky Tacker and attack yeah I okay well we were still coming down from the the Saudi Arabia game weren't we I think and enough that's taking the edge off it but I posted a link to you to your story in the comments there if anyone wants to read it Ryan I've asked Mark about goals I'm going to ask you about injuries um Harry Kane is is set to have a scan today on his uncle that's that's immediate alarm Bells isn't it when you hear the word uncle and hurricane in the same sentence France their injury curse continued Lucas Hernandez he was ACL in the build up to the Australia goal last night they've got seven injuries now they're definitely leading winning the injury World Cup um yeah talk us through that hurricane and more injury role for help for France uh yeah it's a little bit ominous that um Harry Kane Uncle scan because obviously he's had such big history with I think that specific ankle as well so when you saw him go down injured against Iran it was um yeah it wasn't the best sign and then obviously um he was off limping in the media center after and had strapping on his ankle now he's getting a scar and it's a bit I think he would probably be England's biggest loss in my opinion um I think well you've only got Callum Wilson as the backup Striker obviously rashford can play there but uh he just he's the best and well one of the best players in the world in his position England rely on him he's the captain um missing him would be a very big blow I think England could have could afford to get rid of Roundup get ready to lose maybe any other player and you've got a good replacement uh all across the pitch but Kane's probably the only one that where we're struggling to find the replacement as good as him well Karen Callum Wilson yeah telling a Newcastle fan come on no disrespect he's uh he's not hurricane obviously sir he's not he's not but he he can't score goals and um you know he's that's what he's there to do back up Kane if Kane's not there Wilson so yeah yeah I think that's a that's a good point though Ryan that actually uh Kane offers what uh nobody else does in the squad in that he assisted twice against Iran and he's that kind of Striker Connor Morrison is a very different kind of Striker okay he laid on the golfer greenish that's not traditionally his kind of uh that's not his thing would you which would you two actually would you change the way we play if we haven't got a cane or would you try and ask Callum to do the the hurricane role which what would you do I think naturally the team would change because if it is Russia at all Wilson they don't drop as deep as Kane and sort of create in the same way um they like to play on the last man a bit higher so it would just automatically change the way England play Maybe probably rather food and over Mount just to give you that creative bit in the middle there um if South Gate sticks with the same formation yeah Wilson Wilson's definitely you know Wilson's strengths are definitely holding the ball up and bringing others into play but this is what I quite like about this England team is that that they've got lots of options I I I sort of back them to find a way you know if it's if it's not happening down the flanks they'll go through the lines and you know they could even go go over the top um and oh they've got players who could carry the ball like grealish and make things happen so I quite like that there's options there but yeah there would need to be a tweak wouldn't it if there was there was no hurricane it was interesting that um Kane assisted twice and Wilson assisted once um against Iran and I quite like what Shira said in in the punditry in that Kane's cross was brilliant for um yeah for the Sterling wall because he knows exactly where a strike I wanted the ball to go and I used to joke I used to joke in the in the 90s and early 2000s this year was the best Crosser of the ball at Newcastle because he knew he knew where to put it he knew where the the strikers wanted the ball so hopefully he's okay um and the scan goes well today we'll we'll have the news either way on 442.com later um yeah Mark let's talk about another Striker I've got a great picture here from last night Olivia's your room he um he became joint top goal scorer for France last night uh yeah with Henry he's a funny one jerus and he seems to sort of you know he's joined top goal scorer France he's going to overtake on read probably this tournament yeah he's always sort of seen as not not quite good enough but um as an Arsenal fan I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Olivier well yeah I mean that's that's him in a nutshell at Arsenal as well is that he was always not good enough for us he um he was always Arsenal's Plan B really until they found another Striker and they never really did and it's kind of similar for France as well and when you look at um when sharood was first given a cap by France he was 25 years old uh he was rewarded for some good form at Montpellier Lauren Blanc called him up and he said it was simply he simply said it was a dream to be playing for France and I think if you live bet on him becoming the all-time scorer for France either got great odds because 50 51 goals later he's overtaking Tyrion rate and it's completely different Striker but fair play to me he's done it in fewer games than on rain I know that Henry had a lot of he he had to contend with a lot of drama in the 2000s France were an absolute Basket Case for much of his career but to have overtaken Henry which he will do obviously it's it's astonishing re
