hello and welcome to the football 365 transfer gossip video thing today's edition can be about only one map that individual is of course lionel messi who as barcelona confirmed last night will be leaving the club uh he's his contract run out this summer there have been negotiations over many months over keeping him keeping him in spain barcelona claimed that they had reached an agreement with the player over a contract over wages um but due to the legal restrictions that's not going to be viable anymore they need to basically reduce their debt it's spiraling out of control basically um so now the case becomes messy leaving barcelona as it seems it could be that they managed to offload some players it could be that they free up some money in the wage bill but as it stands the man is a free agent and he has his choice of clubs now obviously with messi that's going to be a limited choice he's going to come with a massive signing on fee the wages are going to be huge a lot of that is offset by what he would bring in um obviously one of the best players ever but yeah in terms of who can afford him it really is a very limited field one of those clubs obviously is paris saint-germain who as many outlets are reporting mauricio pochettino the manager was apparently in contact with messi as early as last night as soon as the news wrote basically um neymar is obviously at uh in paris they have a close relationship from their past at barcelona so that could come into play and uh i think it's sky sports we're reporting that messi and i mean it's basic stuff but messi has a desperation to win trophies wherever he goes and with paris saint-germain that basically comes as part of the package they'll be competing for every single tournament they enter so yeah it sounds like psg will be in the running at least now as far as psg go the spanish media are actually reporting that the move is looking impossible now they're in a similar situation to barcelona actually they've signed some really very good players so far this summer and they brought in ashraf akimi for a lot of money they've signed uh three free agents georgina wine album sergio ramos john luigi donnarumma none of them are going to be earning a pittance that's going to be a massive kind of uh stress on the wage bill so in terms of barcelona having to offload players to even be able to contemplate the forwarding messi it's going to be the same case for psg they need to get rid of a hell of a lot of players so um although pochetting has been in contact and although messi has the relationship with neymar unless the move becomes financially viable through selling a lot of that squad it's not going to happen um spanish media are also saying that the other club who are going to be heavily linked with messi which is manchester city they are claiming that city are going to drop their chase for harry kane and they're going to just pursue messi obviously they've eaten for messi a couple of times before quite high profile chasers i believe one was lost last summer and then in 2016 they also offered him huge wages but he committed his future to barcelona so now he's become available they are going to renew that interest apparently they're going to drop the harry kane interest obviously they've just brought in jack greelish as the most expensive british player ever a premier league record signing um so they have the money it's going to be difficult again in terms of ffp obviously it's not the most strictly enforced thing ever but they will have to offload players they've already sold quite a few they've got some some money from squad players players who have never even played for city but they signed them years ago and have sold them on they've even got money from the jaden sancho cell on clause from his move to manchester united so they're in a better position than psg in terms of bringing someone in but again it's going to be a case of offloading players which it was always reported with kane it was reported that bernardo silva might be making way gabrielle jesus might be making way riyad mahrez my clinical way so if they want to bring in messi although he would be a free agent he wouldn't cost any transfer fee it's going to be signing on fees it's going to be wages so they will have to get rid of some players now the atletico countering that report they actually say that kane remains city's priority target after bringing in greelish they say that having pursued messi twice before quite high profile chasers and being rejected both times they won't go in for a third time they will just keep on badgering away at daniel levy and tottenham for harry kane 160 million or nothing basically his tottenham stance um it sounds like kane is returning to training either by the end of this week or the start of next so there could be some more updates in terms of that at some point he's on holiday at the minute um so there could be some more leaks in terms of the media but yeah in terms of that city some are saying that they will keep on going for kane some are saying that they'll abandon the kane thing for messi um but then again spanish media will go back to them they're offering a third option for messi they are saying that mls could be something that he um he kind of looks at in terms of his next club there's not really any specific names mentioned some have said into miami it's a bit loose in terms of especially the designated players um in america that would complicate things but obviously if you can afford messi you can if you're able to bring him in if you're able to negotiate with him you will make room for him um so yeah the spanish media is saying that mls could be a possible rule um messi was looking at playing in america at some point in his career i think he hoped to play in spain for at least another couple of years until he looked at that he's 34 now he's still not at the top of his game not at his absolute peak but he's still a brilliant footballer he's still got a lot to offer and he still wants to play at the highest level in europe basically for another couple of years that was the plan to stay in barcelona two more years and then to look at the mls option that was apparently built into one of the packages that city offered him where he would play for city for a few years and then join their new york city fc sister football club um so it's always been an option for messi it's always been something he's considered playing in america that could just accelerate the process
