Welcome back to the Football Italia channel. Last week it was terrible for Syria clubs in the Champions League. But this time around the story is entirely different. We examine Italian clubs games in the Champions League and especially the fantastic win over Manchester United for 4-1. After all, Syria may not be the former league as many say. Let's start. Joining me is Richard Ro. Thank you for being here, Richard. >> Yeah, no problems. And uh yeah, what a what a result last night for KOMO. But yeah, Italian teams are back. Is it fair to say? I think after last week surely. Yeah, I mean we we said already last week that the results were a little bit in some cases a coincidence in other cases bad luck in some cases obviously we know Syria clubs are not at the same level of the top top sides you think about Barcelona you think about PSG uh potentially you think about Real Madrid as well >> but it's uh much better than uh what we showed last week and this time around we proved We start with KO's 41 win over Man United. What a game. I mean, those who don't follow Syria so closely might be surprised by Ko, but I mean, obviously, when you beat such a big team with such a big result is is always you're always going to grab the headlines, but we've seen many Karma games played this way. >> Yeah, massively. I think that you know when you look at the I think what's interesting when you look at the game is you've got the the if you look at the project idea of this you know Ko have a project uh you know they they've looked and it's been small tweaks yes they've had to redo part the the stand uh the the curve has had to be done this season you know they put money into the squad but it's and but really the squad is revolving a little bit around Nikopaz which you know has been a good acquisition for him Fabregas knows the way he wants to play. They're rebranding basically using what KO is and making that image and the luxury elements of it. They're creating that brand and they've done it really in comparison to what Manchester United have spent on a shoestring budget. Manchester United with a billion pounds in the red almost of what they've spent you know coming to KO and also looking to rebrand themselves and the difference in levels was shocking. Uh Ko were knew exactly what they wanted to do. They executed the plan perfectly. All the Italian media at the moment praising Fabregas for his tactical uh astute approach and Manchester United look absolutely terrible and and I think partly it's because Ko took them apart. Manchester United also not been in great form. There's going to be huge questions over Michael Carrick again now because of this. But I mean Niko Paz was and we've spoken about him so much but he was outstanding again last night. Yeah, he was uh he was fantastic. He had already scored the goal against Florentina in uh the match just before the uh Man United game. I'm talking about Fabregas. I mean, credit to him for for what he's been building because uh if you look at those players uh not just pass you look at Lucas Duna, you look at Jakob Ramon, uh you look at Martin Burina, like honestly we didn't we didn't know them that well-c before they came to Ko and uh they shape themselves as footballers. uh they help shaping the uh como identity thanks thanks to fabricas and when people say the coach doesn't matter much because all you need to have is good footballers sometimes you need to build those good footballers those excellent footballers I remember Dakuna playing years ago um with Ko he was initially used as a right winger and then it has slowly become a center mid and then now he's regista he got the call up with the France national team. They got Mia. They got Peron. Jakob Ramon is is outstanding. He's another guy coming from from Real Madrid with the same formula as Nikop. So technically is 100% a common player, but Real Madrid have an option uh to buy him. Um Duvikas the center forward is massively underrated I think besides his goal. I mean last season he scored a lot of goals but the work that he does and uh and again we just got to be so proud that we we we can uh see such a team week in week out in in Syria and a team that is is offering something different is offering something that is uh up there with in terms of playing style with the most uh modern and advanced playing styles that we see that we see in football and that's thanks to Fabregas. >> Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you saw it when um Jav Alonzo was at Bay Labs and everyone was talking about it with a lot more resource in that sense and what the you know, more established team, but I mean, you know, we I was out in Como. I've done work with Ko and I, you know, looking back over some of the pictures when I used to go out, you know, I saw him in City of Chi um not that long ago, you know, and and and there was a believe it or not, there was a guy handing out water. He had a shopping trolley and he was handing out bottles of water and they've come from there to this and it shows what, you know, players like >> Yeah, exactly. You know, I was there when they got promoted with the last game of the season with with bar against Bari in the 2-2 draw. And even then, I was thinking, how are they going to cope in Sydia? But they've got this luxury brand. They're right by the lake, the most one of the most beautiful places to watch football in the world. And they're providing the football on the pitch now. And you know, look at all the players you mentioned. Boutz also needs a mention and brilliant brilliant goalkeeper how he's come on. And it shows as I originally said the project where you look people are saying oh you know Manchester United still need investment they still need um a good backline you know all the ex-professionals Peter Schmichel talk about how >> yeah and Ko have done it and now I think that they should be talked about very very highly and it's quite clever as well because Niko Paz whilst he's absolutely incredible when Real Madrid go to the table to buy players they're looking at the the elite of the elite of the elites. Now, technically Paz, I think, is right up there, but it's quite clever because I don't think he'll ever really go back to Madrid potentially. I think it's one of those situations where he might they'll always be targeting someone just that little bit higher and it could work in Ko's favor. But like you say, Raman, Bhutes, Fabregast are all going to be being watched if they continue to do this well this season in the Champions League. It's I mean the the timeline they've had we mentioned the fact that not long ago they were playing in the third or even fourth division. It feels like you know when you play video games and you have you do the manager career and you think okay I'm taking this club and I want to take it to the Syria or to the Premier League from the third division and then we want to play in the Champions League and then we want to win the Champions League. It feels like come have done that in real life because the process was was so quick and and again the secret is that from the bottom to the last person at the club everyone seems to has to have the same mindset. Everyone is united. Everyone has the same ideas. I think a big part again in this is fabric being part obviously of the coaching staff being the coach but also being part of somehow the um decision making stuff as well because he's because he's a shareholder uh a minor shareholder so it's it doesn't explain it all but it's a clear sign of uh how things run smoothly. They spend a lot of money for new players, more money than the mid-table teams or the smaller teams. True. >> Yeah. >> But they spend it wisely and that's what I always say. You don't need to spend thousand of million of euros and billion of euros sometimes. All you need most of times it's clear ideas and Fabas is able to identify those players >> and uh immediately see even before coaching them where they can stick into his team >> 100% and and he's done that really well and like you say yes the budgets there incomparable to where they they they were especially looking as you put them with the stadium capacity wage bill etc. But now, you know, when you look at it, you got to say, "No, now they're a Champions League team." So, compare the budgets then to the people who you'd expect to be in there. And again, you know, it's interesting it what you were saying before about if you're in a computer game. Um, and it's true like the manager's career and you're going up and up the leagues. There's always a point when you play those things and you take the team too far and you say to yourself, "Ah, this is unrealistic now." It's unrealistic. If you were if you were playing this game with Ko and you had this team and you just beat United 4-1 in the Champions League, you go, "It's gone too far now." >> The last save. It's the last save. >> Yeah, the last season. Uh and for Nikopaz, I I mean, I'm not sure his by the end of the season is not going to be elite elite Real Madrid level. Now, Real Madrid need 80 million to buy him back from from Ko. Then there might be other closes which we're not fully aware of regarding uh possible increases in price because obviously Nikopas will be in huge demand by the end of the season because the way he's playing but we're not just saying this because he scored those two goals or because he scored two goals in the last two games. Uh the the start of the season was criticized by some because they said he wasn't at the same level as in the previous campaign. But this is an entirely different campaign for Ko. It's not playing once a week. you play two or three times a week. You have a different level of uh uh physical challenge, mental challenge. He's a young player. So, personally, I had never criticized Nik Pass because even when he doesn't score or assist, you can say and you can see his uh uh involvement in the team and how many things he does for the team technically, physically. >> Yeah, >> I've been saying this for last season as well. to me is uh probably the best player we have in Syria. Just the >> the way he conducts himself, the way he touches the ball, it's it's something different. When you go to the stadium and see Nikop playing, the way the ball stands whenever he touches is different. >> Oh, massively. Like you say, you know, he's got that physicality, the way, you know, structure, he's tall, he's young, he's fast, he's got everything. He's and he's one of the most enjoyable players to watch as well. You know, it's not just the fact that it's about numbers. Like you say, >> it's almost old an old style number 10. >> Yeah, absolutely. With that modern twist in the sense of he makes it effective, you know, you you can look at players sometimes in I know just totally randomly if you look at the old school number 10, you could use someone as for an English comparison like Jack Greish for instance, you know, hold knocks around in the hole and plays nice passes, but really how effective is he? whereas P has just got this acceleration. He's got the finishing. He's got he can morph from that oldfashioned number 10 almost into a number nine now. And he's just been fantastic. Like you say, not just this season, last season as well. And I'm sure the Champions League will make him draw quite a lot of attention to himself. But look, even if he does go for it, it'll have to be for a huge fee. And that would be beneficial of course for Ko because you trust Babass out of all the coaches to be the one he'd reinvest it well. There is another South American that got headlines in Lombardi yesterday, not coming from Argentina but coming from Brazil, Carlos Agusto. Second goal in the Champions League. Uh fantastic performance yesterday against Shakar and he scored in the most difficult moment for Inter who won 1 nil getting the first three points in the Champions League campaign. How would you sum up the whole thing, Rich? >> It's really strange because I think if you were to just watch the game um and not have the context around it, you'd say it was a poor performance from Inter in some respects. For me, it was brilliant because just in a basis that it was a bit scruffy. It didn't it wasn't perfect. Um but you look at all the situations of it was a mustwin number one. The questions over Martinez massive jose Martinez in goal because of the mistakes he's made in the Champions League especially. Can they score without Laro? Um you know Shakar not going to be that easy in front of the home crowd could be could turn a little bit. I mean the curving order actually fantastic yesterday but I think that you looked at it and there was a lot of issues there. Inter have been messing up in the games that matter. They've been conceding early goals. There's been a lot wrong with him this season and for I think in really and Ku really needed that win. He needed it doesn't matter if it was Scruffy. It's almost a message to say look we can dig deep without some of our players and and get it over the line. And I think that mentality is probably just been lacking a bit from in um you know you see it if you take comparison sometimes. I mean often Bayern Munich will will, you know, go and destroy teams, but then they know how to dig deep sometimes and just drag it over the line. Same as Arsenal, you know, can have some terrible to watch sometimes, but get it over the line. For me, the more in do that this season, the better because we all know when they're all on fire and full full pelts. We know what they can do, but they just need to go a bit back to basics at the moment and make sure those clean sheets are coming in. So, and as for Carlos Augusta, I mean, is it his fourth goal this season or something? I mean, he keeps coming up with him, doesn't he? Um, and you know, he's not the sort of player often when you take if you had someone like DeMarco or Spence, whoever it might be on, you bring him on and this is me and it's wrong. I always feel like it's an underwhelming substitute and yet he's the one who always ends up being really decisive and he's finishing. I've been That's one thing I've been saying this for a couple of seasons. the guy. I'd be interested to see how many goals he'd get if they played him up front because his finishing is excellent. So, no, all in all, um, not pretty to watch, but I and and Martin has made some good saves as well. So, overall, it was a a good day at the office for Inter. >> Yeah. Well, the overall performance wasn't, as you said, exactly uh great for Inter, but you're right. This is what you get when you play two or three times a week. I mean, you know, you can't always be at the very top of your game. And if you are a top team competing to win Syria, competing to get to the later stages of the Champions League, you need to be able to win games when you're not at the top of of your game because uh it's it's fundamental. There are too many injuries. There are uh too many issues that a coach has to cope with and playing every two or three days is is very demanding. So, it's natural that you're not always the best version of yourself. Um, what was pretty to see, I think, was the assist from Enrich Mkhitaryan and the the way Carlos Austo controlled the ball with his chest to set himself up for the shoot on target. He was quick and immediate and just uh perfect timing, perfect touches, all fantastic in there. Carlos Austo two goals sorry four goals across all competitions and two assists which is impressive when you consider that there is not exactly a regular starter for Inter the regular starter for Inter left back left midfielder is Federo DeMarco who is having more of a few more struggles this season compared to the previous campaign just >> two assists in nine appearances so far and then Carlos Austo he can start he can play as a left defender in a three-man defense. He's a play he can play as a left wing back, left midfielder. He can do it all really. And besides his goal, you're right, he's is very underrated in the player. Very underrated. Uh the 12 men we would say uh here in Italy uh not just about the fans, but also about the uh the important the important replacements that that these teams have. And uh your take on the Bastoni red card? I mean, look, it's one of those situations. I mean, I I personally think, you know, you can't do it. It doesn't matter really. You know, it's it's just that it's the law is the law. I mean, you can you can argue, well, the players go down too easy, this, this, and this, but realistically, that's how it goes. So, I think it's stupid from him. You know, in in modern football now, you just know you can't get involved in anything at all. Um there's eyes all over everywhere with the cameras, you know, obviously V and especially in these huge games, the referees are primed for it. So if you do anything now, you know, it's like you look at um here's another example. Look at Alise against Vicking, you know, you don't blame him for doing what he does, but at the same point, you think, well, you knew you're gonna get sent off, so stupid. So no, I think he will um not be over the moon with it just for the fact of anyone getting yourself involved in anything is not worth it. >> Two other games were played on Tuesday. Two other wins for Syria club. Roma beat Sloven Bratislava 4-nil and Ko beat Bodling 43. Both games played at home. Um I want to start with with Napoli here because there are those a bit more in trouble. Um, I think the most uh interesting thing coming out from uh the game at the stadium Maradona the other night is that perhaps Masimilliano Le is finding a way to um make De Bruyne and Scott McDin be effective >> simultaneously at the same time playing together in center midfield because Napoli have made a lot of tests with these two players. I um I was covering Napoli's first game as defending champions last season away at Sasual. It was um the Bruin Serial debut um to make the Bruin play alongside Lobodka and Angisa and Mctomin as well. McTominay had to play as a left winger and this is the role he had for a few weeks in the first Antonio Conte in Antonio in Antonio Conte season last term. uh then the Bruno got injured so he didn't have much many chances to play alongside um Mctomin but still this season uh Aliga has been trying ways to play these two together to make them be actual difference maker on the field and until the other day the plan wasn't didn't didn't quite seem the right one then of course they still have problems massive problems in defense I think without Alexandro Bonjouro they they are without their best center back he keeps doing a league three-man defense, fourman defense. It's been um it's been pretty confusing. You still find trying to find the best setup. But I think one of the keys for Napoli this season, if they're able to make them de Bruyne and McTominay work well and be effective at the same time on the pitch, they're going to solve a lot of their problems. >> Yeah, massively. I think this obviously with muttony and his his um heart problems and the issues there and like you say de Bruyne you're always two seconds away from an injury you feel it's a bit of a difficult one. I feel for Allegri in some ways because obviously the issues he has in defense we'll come to in a second but mixing that midfield when you aren't potentially sure that you're going to have De Bruyne all the time you know I find that difficult to then build around you know Tommy Mctomin being back now is a big a big big big advantage for him I think with Allegri I look at this Napoli team and I think that for the last year or two I think I saw something today about Allegri's win rate and It's not great. Um I think you know a lot of the Italian press will say that he's outdated etc. But even and he's always said no because the the end result justifies the way I play and I get that. I get that completely. But the po
