your best players and your most disappointing players. John, we've touched on that a little bit already. Here I've got the ratings from um sofa score. There are ratings from football as well which which you can read on the website who was who impressed. I personally I'm I'm telling you again the only one who I've got who I gave more than six out of 10 which in Italian school is a passing grade. I didn't get many of those six out of 10 in my school career, [laughter] >> but those who got got them from me tonight were Donaruma, um, Barela, Esposito, and Kambiagi. Not even Kalafuri, even though I like Kalafiori, but I think the first half was much better than the second half. Well, first half was very proactive, uh, trying to have some nice forward runs. the second half even the chance that he had which he missed with the outside of his foot. It was just >> just just a two simple shot. He didn't have the the energy that you want to see the uh it wasn't an attempt that you you see him and and and think he wants to score the goal. He always almost most like was like I'm just going to shoot and see whatever happens. And I didn't really quite like the attitude but the first half of of Caluria I liked it. Who were your best players and most disappointing players? >> Yeah, I mean very similar. I mean absolutely um Donaruma saved it being a disaster in the in the first half. So you know that's a um consolation and Kambiagi. Yeah, Kambiagi surprised me as I say I was surprised even to see his name in the squad. So, and you know, and surprised to see him in the 23 and even more surprised to see him in the starting lineup. But I I was saying to my son earlier, sometimes you get these players like I think back to Jakarini in his days that you know there was there was nothing great about him, but he was good for Italy. So, you can get players like that that just um produce well. So, that I I quite liked. I thought Keenan was quite good as well. um but you know wasn't playing where he needed to be playing. He did in that first half that was a bit of a disaster. He did beat his man a few times but there were not a lot of No, I I was I was giving them Lorenzo Beton's school marks there for most of the team. I [laughter] think whatever whatever you used to get you used to get I think they all deserve that because it was Yeah. No, they were they were poor. I I mean I don't like I don't like singling out, you know, particularly people that that were poor, but I I I think I do think I mean, I've given the game away. I thought Romano his kind of his head went down after he gave the ball away and he kind of disappeared from the game. I I was looking for him. He was in positions to demand the ball and he didn't demand the ball. you know, it seemed like I don't know if the players around him lost confidence in him or if he lost confidence in himself, but the place the play seemed to go around him um until he came off. I was surprised. I mean, actually, after 20 minutes, I think he had for a tease warming up and you know, I thought he might have actually subbed him early. I think he saved them that um embarrassment. But you know going back to your point about Barela playing as a playmaker you know he did he he brought in Richi he brought in Fajoli he brought in players that can play that role if you want them to play it but then they weren't even you know available. So I I don't know there's a lot of confusion there. There's a lot of things to sort out about how how Italy want to play. Um, but no, there were not a lot of pass marks tonight. And there were a lot of I mean, I think Manini himself >> would not get pass marks for tonight because I think he he messed up. He started 11 and he tried to sort it out, but you know, he didn't he didn't manage it. So, you know, I don't want to I hate to be all doom and gloom. So, I did think there were some, as I say, I did think the second half was a bit better. I thought Fati was lively. Dumbia, as I said, um I thought came on and looked okay. Maldini not bad either, but I I just I want a big shakeup in these next three games and a big a big reaction to that cuz that was no goals in front of your own fans is is pretty terrible. And um you know after that um I mean yeah Sami Martinez right the balance wasn't good at all. There were a lot and yeah, I mean to give Belgium some credit as well, they were, you know, Belgium were decent. I think Napoli fans would be watching Kevin De Bruyne and wondering where that player has been for a bit of the season because he was not the last time against Florentina. He was kind of I watched him sort of strolling around, but he was back to almost old Kevin De Bruyne there and and really, you know, they only gave him an hour, but it was a very good hour that that he gave his team. So, you know, they were they were decent as well. Um, and the boy that got the first goal was looked very very sharp as well. So, you know, I mean, the thing is they're um they're starting to, you know, rebuild as well and a new coach, but you would be tonight going to bed. You'd be happier being a Belgian than you would be being an Italian. I'm reading a few com I mean not a few comments just one comment from one person which I won't mention uh talking about forian players uh I think that as soon as somebody wears an auri shirt is immediately an Italian and even before that whatever you are eligible to play for Italy national team you are Italian doesn't matter anything else doesn't matter So that that's the only thing that I want to say. I don't want to be too long on that because we're not in the middle age. We are nearly in 2013 and so exactly this is the only only thing that we want to say about this matter. >> Uh let's just talk about the game. Um this uh um comment here which I've highlighted Tonali. Is it the one I've highlighted? Yeah. Yeah. About Tonali. We had an article again on Football Italia um because one of the things we've been reporting from Kano these days is that when Manini tested this 4-33 formation the left uh box-to-box midfielders were just two where Tonali and Fatzi. Now, I've taken from from granted from day one that Tonali would have started because I knew Manchini would play safely and because I still think Tonali is on paper when he's in best form the best outfield player that Italy have. So, I was I was sure that Tonali would have start if it was if the choice was between him and Fatzi. But it's it's clear that it's not the start of the season that anyone expected from Tonali and it's not the start of the season that made in the most the most expensive Italian player ever. So um I already expect to see Tonali dropped against Turkey and Fatzi starting. >> Well I mean Fatzy's form certainly calls out for that. you know, he has been freed from freed from the bench at Inter. He's been playing great. So, you know, and he is he's another one of these players that loves playing for Italy and always seems to overd deliver for Italy. I I mean I I I love Tonali so you know I would be reluctant to drop him because I think he is a good good player but there's no doubt if your club side is struggling and you know you're part of that struggle. It's not easy. I mean it can be nice to get a break from it sometimes. You know if if your club side struggling then maybe the national team can be a nice break but the trouble is his national team's struggling too. So, you know, there's a double there's a double pressure on him to kind of perform. But I mean that I agree with you. I think on form he's absolutely one of Italy's best um players. But, you know, maybe he needs a rest. That's, you know, the bottom line. Maybe it's good to try something different because certainly tonight he didn't have a he didn't have a a great a great game, but you know, that that was as I say, not many had a great game tonight. Um, so you know, maybe maybe he needs a rest and we try, you know, as I see Frases in good form. So we maybe try him there. You know, I don't know. It's it's a difficult ask cuz they're not easy games these. But we need to find or well, we don't need to luckily. Roberto Manini needs to find a solution that gets the best out of the the players that he's got and gets, you know, the best. It's not always about picking the 11 best players. It's often about picking the 11 players that work best as a team. So, you know, he's only had a few days to begin that process. Hopefully by the end of these four games we start to see that he's making progress in that because otherwise you know it is a worry if he's not seeing um some of that football that I mean remember his previous edition went on a run of incredible results without defeat you know so he is capable of doing that he's capable of putting together a good team and it was I think we could all agree Manini's team then was much more um the than the individuals, you know, it's um it wasn't just a bunch of individuals. They overperformed for, you know, the quality of the individual players that were in that side. That's what he's got to find again is is an start and 11 and subs a squad that are his players and that can play the way he wants them to play and and you know deliver um deliver good aggressive attacking football but we didn't see that tonight and we want to see you know we want to see more of it over the next three games I'm showing these comments Surely is a little bit to judge. It's a little bit early to judge, but we got to work. So, we got [laughter] to speak about what we saw. Exly. We're not saying we're not qualifying for the 2000 2030 World Cup, but we we need to see a very short judge what we saw and >> what we saw wasn't great. I mean, junk, we got the last two or three minutes. The tonal stats in defending are I mean shocking from from sofa score. No defensive contributions, no take one, no interceptions, no clearances, no block shots, eight recoveries, right? One ground dwells one from two passes. I think if I remember well, it's it's not that terrible, but still uh in opposition half just 85%. Uh uh not at all a good performance from Tonali. And again, I would expect him to to be dropped against Turkey and maybe come back either against France in a week or Turkey again at home in uh uh at at the end at the end of the at the end of the break in the last game.
