Welcome back to the Football Italia channel. A new day, new week, and we review the action of Italian players across the top five leagues. So, let's find out our ideal 11 for last week. [music] [music] >> Joining me today, Richard Hold. Richard, thank you so much. You got a nice new background. Yeah, I thought I might as well pull out all the stops for you, but we'll give it a go. Opinions welcome. [laughter] Yeah, you're making me watch You're making me watch too much football now with this. It's not just City Lego B. I'm loving to watch Italian players all around Europe. >> All right. All right. Let's start with our usual uh team of the week for Italian players. Um this is not about Champions League. This is about the previous the latest uh league rounds across the top five leagues. The good news, we do a little spoiler here, Richard, is that almost all these players are from Syria. And this is something that didn't happen last week. We got a lot of Premier League players. We've got Tonali, we got Kalafuri, who are regulars in the Italian team, but there are some >> new faces. Perhaps we might see some of them uh in the next international break in November. But again, lot of Syria, which is always good to see. >> Yeah, definitely. I think as well it just shows that uh the quality of similar games this weekend. It was a it was a good one. So yeah, looking forward to getting into this one. [snorts] >> All right, for go we've selected um it's a strange one. Let's start right away saying this because uh the man we've selected has conceded three go considered three goals over the weekend against Milan and it's Atlanta's Marco Carneeki. Three goals conceded. Not really his fault we have to say and one penalty kick saved. So he Atlanta had a few chances to had one big chance to equalize actually after coming back from um Milan where I had 3-0 then Atlanta got the 3-1 3-2 and they really had a good chance with Zapak Costa to score the 3-3. Man made a big save but if Atlanta were in that situation is also because Carnei made a few saves even when Atlanta were 3-0 down. So, it's I I understand it's debatable because he conceded three goals, but I I mean I watched the game, I did the play ratings as well and it's it it's really hard to dislike Carneski's performance. I think >> yeah, I mean not only is he a brilliant keeper in general, I think his all round plays fantastic. But yeah, you're right. I mean, look, goalkeepers what they meant to do at the end of the day, you know, we can look at some of the games where it was maybe 3-0, etc., and you see a goalkeeper not do a huge amount, you know, and um obviously not going to justify anything in that way. For me, Kosaki got absolutely left exposed in more than one occasion. And you know, there's nothing he could do. I think when you look at the goals himself, the ones he conceded, I wouldn't I wouldn't put him at fault for any. And then to make, you know, three definite really superb saves, I would say, put him at the top of his pile. Obviously, the penalty save from Ramos is is a good one as well. Um, and as a goalkeeper, I think he can look at himself and think he did everything he could and the deficit could have been a lot more without him. So, I think he really does justify his position there. We have a doubt about the left back uh because we had to adjust a little bit our fullman defense. Um because on the left uh we thought about two names in particular. Uh Floriani Mussolini of Latio and Emerson Palmieri of Marseilles. Everson Palmier was instrumental to Marseilles beating Aners in the French league on 52 over the weekend. He provided one assist. General play wasn't fantastic but he got this assist which is uh still uh relevant very important. The other option is Floriani. I know Floriani plays on the right for Latio but he can play on the left as well. And as you know, we play a little bit with with these roles depending on the other best performers over the week. I would still go for Emerson because of the assist, but Floriani deserves a big mention because he's played a very good role, an important role in this fantastic latter result so far. >> Yeah, it was a difficult one because Mel was absolutely fantastic [snorts] as you as you rightly say and easily could have got this. But I just think that with that display from Marseilles, you know, it really was based on a lot of the um the wide players dominating the that game and he had a massive part in it. So, you know, it was one assist, but that doesn't really tell the full story of his display. You know, he he was dominant in that sense and Marseilles you say romped home there. So, it was um probably just stole it on that one because like you say, Mussolini could have uh could have easily got there because Latio, as we know, were were in fantastic form as well, but I just feel the the domination of Marseilles in that game just edges it for him. Um other defenders um Kutino I think he had a very good game in the 3-0 win against Paralma look really in trouble even though they've recently changed coach with um Gillardino coming to replace Questa during the break. Uh another doubt I have uh it's between Andrea Carboni and Eddie Kuadio both Monza players probably I would go for Cuadio because he scored his uh first goal in in Syria in a 4-nil win over Kari which you know it may feel like uh it's something you you almost take it for granted but we've been talking so well about Ker Ker have had so many good results so far that these four win is not is pretty surprising especially for the margin with which Monza won this game. So I would give Kuadio the edge over Carboni. But even Carboni was was really really good at the back end. You know winning 4-0il keeping a clean sheet is fantastic achievement for Monza I think. And was one of those players who were called up by Manchini. He didn't make his debut during the previous break. He wasn't actually never called up to the match they scored but he was there and perhaps you know it it adds something in terms of experience in terms of working with the country's best players and it ripped the rewards >> 100%. I think you know both of them could have been in the team of the week and um the goal probably just probably steals it. Going back on to what you were saying, I think that that's an incredible result for Monza because Calerie, yeah, like we said, you know, we predicted them probably to be at the bottom of the pile, but their form has really not uh suggested that, you know, with the likes of um sponsor Romano and Capil all played well and others playing such big hands in that. Whether they went into that game with a little bit of um I don't know false arrogance or confidence, some false confidence probably the better word, I don't know. uh because of their form and Monza didn't take them lightly and defensively that game was was really really good. So yeah, either of them could have justified that one. Lulio of Roma we've already mentioned as a right back. He scored his first Syria goal in Roma's nil win over Genua uh on Saturday night. uh one of the surprises of this start of the season because he got uh playing times at the beginning of the very beginning of the campaign where Molina were still working to regain much fitness and even now that he's got it is fully part of of Gasperi's rotations and and you love to see I think is one of those players that we might see uh in uh in the November squad for for Roberto Manchini especially uh you know there are some players like Udogi who got an injury with Tottenham. Ruji as well for Aston Villa is going to remain out of action for a couple of months. Luli mostly plays on the right. He can play on the left as well. But perhaps he's one of those players that Machini would like to uh watch on the field. And uh let's say his his first goal in Syria against against Genoa the other night is a little bit the uh icing on the cake after this very good start of the season for him. Yeah, he's he's a great player and um I think that a lot was made of him early on. He's always had that something around his name that he might might do something and maybe even despite his age, you you think when's he going to sort of come through and he seems to be really rising with that uh with Gasper in his Roma at the moment. He's part of the story really, isn't he? He's uh he's doing really well and see him getting amongst the goals as well. That's something I'll probably want to add to it. But as you say, definitely think there's going to be a November inclusion there. And um with him, great performance and I think he's going to continue to grow throughout the season with this team. >> Another doubt we have is in midfield >> because I got three uh candidates for two places. We got Jaluka Gayano Vatalanta, Jako Malo of Finon, and Nicolo Barela of Inter. Um now those the two we've picked uh we going uh we're doing a kind of blend uh between uh individual performance teams result and playing playing time the minutes they actually played. Ganu was introduced from the bench uh for Atlanta. He scored one goal against Milan but again he was introduced from the bench. Very good introduction, very good approach. Um obviously an immediate impact for the excaler men call got a goal in frozen 4 to win over Solo and Barela provided one assist in in three one win away at Bologna. So my personal pick is Callo and Barela for the two men midfield. Do you agree? >> Yeah, I think so. I think with for us only at the moment with Ko um they're just the a great story. It's fantastic to see, you know, I I had frozen right at the bottom of that pile almost and the way they've been, you know, we even talked about them the other week against Napoli thinking, you know, Napoli need to be careful here. Um, going can always be a team that can be, how can I put this, you know, diff, you never know what you're going to get in that sense. and the way the frozen just almost dispatched them. >> You never know what you're going to get against smaller teams because against top teams against top teams, you know, they're going to get a hard time. But then when it comes to uh let me say smaller teams, it's more of there are more doubts about the performances and results. Uh but yeah, I mean it's it's pretty in line with with the previous performances, previous years, previous coaches at Sasual. It's always been this way even with uh with the Zer being charge. I remember big games against big teams but then they would drop but it's >> I think it's part of uh of what you need to expect from a team that is doesn't have many expectations. They're very young. It happens. >> Yeah. No, exactly. Exactly. And so so Kell deserves his place. It was a very very complete performance from him and for it's quite interesting if you even take the mix. I mean obviously my social media is flooded with into fans and it was quite interesting to see the amount of people saying this is the old barella um you know this is what they expect and he did play well he did play well there was a lot of energy there but there was also a bit of product as well I think it's either been lacking one or the other recently at certain points either a lot of energy with no end product or glimpses and flashes of brilliance with not as much energy which is unusual this was more back to himself and I think with obviously Lardo missing It needed that performance. It needed someone to stand up and and drag into into three. So yeah, I think he deserves his place as well. >> We want to see the old Barela with the national team as well to be fair, but because there's a lot of competition in midfield. Is Dumbia last week scored his first goal with Sporting in the Champions League. We we've been talking about Dumbia a lot during the break. the only player who got four uh four uh appearances across all the four games played by Italy across September and October. Uh obviously Dumbia is is not considered in these uh um in these teams that we do because we take a look at the top five leagues and Portugal is is still not there in Europe. But when it comes to the Italy national team, he's a name that should always be considered, I think, from now on because he's showing a lot of his skills for club and country. And this is why I'm saying we need the old Barela because it's not guaranteed that at this stage with a long-term process aiming to the 2030 World Cup. I mean, you can see unless Bella is the very top of his game, you can see that there there could be some rotation in that spot. Yeah, and also as well I think for if you take it take my in head off and put it from an Italian national scene point of view, you are looking for that next generation to come through, but at the moment while they're not ready, you need those senior players to to carry them to that next stage. And so realistically, Varela's time's now. um you know he needs to be thinking whether that's for ina or for um for the Azouri that he needs to be performing you know whether he's helping players in in both squads come through and and taking that leadership role full on now you know this is where especially when your game's based on energy and everything else you look at his age and you think the these are your peak years now so good to see him starting to look like his old self >> three attacking midfielders I mean one attacking midfielders and two wingers playing behind a center forward. I think uh everyone know the center forward we're going to pick, but we'll name him in a few minutes. It's this is this is so good to see really. Um I've got Bardi as a right winger. Obviously a familiar face for fans. Won the Euros in 2021 with Emerson Palmier actually. So, we got two Euro 2020 winners um in this ideal 11. >> And then I've got Liberali as an attacking midfielder and Zakani as a left winger. Another um Latio player. Zakani we mentioned before Mussolini who was in contention for uh the starting spot in our 11 as a left back. Zaka assist very very good for prosgard in Latio's first goal against Juventus 3-0il win Latio currently top of the table in Syria alongside in Liberal got his first Syria goal in Kos 3 one win against Florentina scored Sora's first goal in a 4-2 defeat against frozen uh you remember we had a video about Liberali saying he could be the most uh exciting serial talent in Syria this season. >> I'm I'm so happy that he's getting those chances. He might start as well tonight for K against Manchester United. It's it's it's similar to what we said for Cece. We desperately need those young players in these positions in attacking midfield on the wings. We need to be unpredictable again. We need these uh players who can uh you know provide the goals, who are good in onetoone. There's a lot to improve still because they're they're all very young. Liberal is very young. Cis is very young, but it's so good to have him to have him there and and to see them score these goals. The goal as well, it looked easy, but it wasn't. It was so simple. It looks so simple to to go with that color at the far post, but it wasn't simple at all. >> No. and Liberali like you say I'm so pleased to see him in that team because with Ko as well you know you're playing for an excellent coach a team on the rise starting to mix it with the well already mixing it with the big names of Italian football and it just feels like the energy the the tactical intelligence of Fàregas is coming through to him he's in you know in that position great for him to find his go find the back of the net it was his first city goal wasn't it for and incredible incredible for him to do that and and to have he's sort of riding the wind of it in a sense. He's he's on the the rise with Ko and uh you know the more minutes he gets the better and you can see all the talents there. I don't think it'll be long since till some of the really really big clubs are looking at him but at this moment at Ko played alongside you know the likes of Niko Paz and you know the team that surrounds him I think is a great place for him and yeah he's I think he'll come on and on. And as for the other two, I mean, you know, can you when you talk about Lazio, he just seems to go and go and go. He always seems Lazio to have a player like him who you always think's never going to quite be there and always a little bit underrated, but just continues to to perform. Um, and he's been brilliant. He's been absolutely fantastic and fully deserves his place. He's, uh, yeah, he can be really, really dangerous. He's always one of those players that you sort of almost, it sounds wrong to say it, it's not forget about him, but he always comes back to hurt you when you forget about him. And Barady is one of my all-time favorites because just because of his bizarre sort of attitude, you immense talent, you know, this sort of I always see him as um not unambitious, but kind of I don't know, >> loyal. say loyal maybe loyal but he's almost like a bit of a throwback and um in Cyia and you know look he when he turns it on for me Bardi could have played for almost anybody he wanted if he had had that mentality. So every time he turns it on he's he's an absolute joy to watch. Um so yeah they all had fantastic games. center forward. We've got the new Syria top goalcorer with seven goals. Antonio Raundo frozen on a hattick over the weekend against Sasual. It's already seven goals in seven appearances. He's a strange striker. I mean, he doesn't have the physicality of a classic center forward, but he has an incredible sense of goals. Like if you watch his goals against frozen against a swellow, you would think all these goals are easy. But you got to be there. You got to score those goals. And I think what's good about Ramondo as well is that he's proved to be quite complete because scored the first two goals against Florentina with his left foot. Then all the three goals against frozen were with his right foot. He got another one with a header. He can do it all. Yeah, he can. And I Well, I love this is such a great story because showing my age when I grew up watching City, you had the likes of Dadio Hubner and Eagle Potty, you know, in the midst of all of these incredible strikers that were in Sydia, you always had one for the lesser teams doing fantastically well. And this just has got so much feeling about that in the sense of you know amongst all the big stars of City here's here he is getting his hattick top scorer at the moment and and yeah you don't have to always be the most spectacular striker you know you if you he's got the ability he's got enough pace he's got enough physicality he's just got enough technique and but he's mentally is extremely sharp and at the end of the day you know we look back and we'll wax acts lyrical about someone like I don't know people in Zagi but at the end of the day right place right time you know we're not talking about you know when we look back over I'm not comparing to people in Zagi by the way but just saying in the you know even the greater players sometimes could manage on the big scale with just that instinct of how to score goals you know and and he certainly has that um and there's a bit more to his game than just just that as well so long may it continue for him but he's certainly riding the wave of it at the moment and uh Yeah, he's he's he's been fantastic. >> 22year-old Raondo, of course, after he had his hat trick, there have been already links to top sides like Juventus. I mean, top sides historically, not currently for Debian. Uh I think it's still a long way as usual. I think when it comes to making such a big decision, [clears throat] I think you need time. You need a summer, you need to settle in a team for a season, see how it goes, and then you decide. If if you look at Denlavic, for example, it's another player, John during a January window, uh it wasn't the impact was good, but then going forward wasn't
