Host Hero Larin Steps Up For Canada v Bosnia And Herzegovina | 2026 World Cup EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS
Larin rescues Canada as they claim first World Cup point in home draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina
This highlights package covers Canada's World Cup group-stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia took the lead from a set piece, while Canada pushed at home and equalized through substitute Cyle Larin. The commentary credits Jesse Marsch's attacking changes but also flags Canada's discipline and finishing concerns.
- This is the best 26-man squad Canada has ever assembled — He framed it that way before the tournament, but the captions do not give a detailed reason.
- Canada cannot afford to give away set pieces because Bosnia will threaten with high balls — Bosnia know how to use set pieces, and Canada failed to clear immediately, handing them a chance.
- Canada's discipline is a major worry — They gave the ball away cheaply and committed a dangerous foul that could have led to a penalty.
- Bosnia's set-piece goal was excellent and exactly the kind of chance they expected against Canada — After a second phase and a flick-on, the finish came at the back post.
- Kolasinac's last-ditch clearance was decisive and prevented a certain goal — Canada produced a brilliant move and the ball looked destined for the net until he intervened.
- Bosnia should stay patient, build on their defensive foundation, and chances will come — They had already created opportunities over the top and one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
- Marsch's all-out attacking changes turned the game, and substitute Larin delivered — Canada equalized in a flash, and Larin again showed he can score off the bench.
- Canada claimed their first-ever World Cup finals point but will feel they could have had two more; Bosnia were frustrated to lose the lead yet pleased with their defending — Canada equalized at home and created chances to win, while Bosnia held firm defensively.

It's time. Time to take the walk. Time to take center stage. Time to tackle the world. Out they stride into a tournament filled with opportunity. Both these sides have so much to give and so much to gain over the next few weeks. It will be fascinating to [music] see who steps forward and who can prosper today. And those in the stands will be key. With their noise and their belief. Canada coach Jesse Marsch has called this the best 26-man squad that the country has ever assembled. The pre-tournament headlines though have been made by injuries and illness to some of their leading lights. Star man Alphonso Davies is not 100% after an injury plagued year and a bit. Ismael Kone though does make the 11 having recovered from a fever this week. Impressive defender Moise Bombito will look to continue his road back to fitness from a broken leg by the bench. All-time leading scorer Jonathan David should provide much of the attacking thrust up top. Plenty of options of course waiting for their moment. Bosnia and Herzegovina were one of the last nations to book their spot at the finals but one of the first to name their squad. Injury fears have surrounded the talismanic figure of Edin Dzeko this week but the 40-year-old has shaken off a shoulder issue enough to take his place on the bench. Pjanic and Sead Kolasinac are the only previous World Cup finals participants in the Bosnian campaign of 2014. American-born Esmer Bajraktarevic is a youngster with a big future. Likewise German by birth Karim Begovic who waits in the wings. A little bit of a nervy pass perhaps. He had to scurry back into position. >> [cheering] >> The tackle flies in on Kolasinac. >> [cheering] >> Set pieces, giving them away. It's seeding them. Dzyuba is not what Canada's game plan is. You don't want to do that. We know it's coming. Launched high and not dealt with immediately and it's free to hit. And it just took off and kept on going. >> Well, that's not a bad opportunity at all. Canada starts their defense on a bit of a high line. Can't finish off cleaning up the the mess in the 18-yard box and they get a decent chance, Bosnia. >> That's loose from Canada. Gives Bosnia and Herzegovina a chance to escape. And it was Memić who was brought down emphatically. And it looks like there may well be some punishment on the way here for Johnston. >> Yeah, Canada giving the ball away cheaply there. And one of the big things for Canada and one of the worrying things for this Canadian national team, for me anyway, is the discipline of it. >> Deeper concern now is a Bosnia and Herzegovina set piece. That is headed towards goal but with no great conviction and Borkelmans looking for in the middle. He's managed to find some space. Just couldn't quite find Buchanan. Kolašinac saw to that. >> [cheering] >> Johnston looking to keep the pressure on. Where's it going to drop? It's going to drop to Davies and straight down the throat of Nikola Vasilj. >> That's building brilliant build-up from Canada's point of view and a great opportunity that you have to put away. >> Hadzikadunic after this one and Laryea was strong in the challenge. Good challenge and good positioning by the man in the middle who's now just making sure that nothing untoward happening in that 6-yard box. Oh, IT'S A LOVELY FLICK ON AND IT'S A BOSNIA GOAL! BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA MAKE THEIR PRESENCE FELT ON THE GLOBAL STAGE. >> [cheering] >> THEY ARE UP AND RUNNING AT THE WORLD CUP FINALS. A SET PLAY SITUATION PAYS DIVIDENDS. >> Absolutely brilliant from Bosnia. This is what they knew they were going to get Canada and did they ever get it? Second phase, little thick on and then Lucas gets the end on it. Absolutely center for him in the end. >> Good spell for Canada and Bosnia on their heels at the moment. >> [cheering] >> Now they could be in business. All that was missing was the finish and that bit of composure from Oluwaseyi. Well, actor, comedian, film star, and singer Mike Myers is in the house. >> [cheering] >> The crowd willing Canada to score here. Just far too much on the header from Cornelius. Desperate to make an impact. >> Yeah, and he's decent in the air, too. Another Not a bad opportunity. Mike Myers and Ryan Reynolds a little frustrated. >> [cheering] >> Bosnia and Herzegovina straight away from the off looking to try and build on that lead. Lively play that we've come to expect from Demichev. >> That was a good play, hitting it early as well, testing Max Crepeau. He hasn't had much to do as far as saves go. >> Oluwaseyi foiled by the sliding Nikola Katić. Johnston nice to Eustáquio. Oluwaseyi trying to keep his feet. Oh, that's beautiful. Wonderful play. And Nikola Vasilj had to dig Bosnia and Herzegovina out of trouble. >> [cheering] >> Not a bad bit of a skill there on there. Just skinning They're coming around the inside and really opening things up and the big goalkeeper does very, very well. His shape on that uh hard cross across the face was very, very well done with a strong wrist. >> Laryea's ball. This is Liam Miller. Eustáquio, it's beautifully worked. IT'S AN OPENING FOR CANADA AND BRILLIANT DEFENDING OF THE LAST-DITCH VARIETY. KOLAšINAC BAILING BOSNIA OUT. SURELY THAT WAS DESTINED FOR THE NET until he intervenes. >> Defend for your lives. What an absolute brilliant passage of play from Canada. It's challenge. >> There's some momentum building though for his side here. What a touch that was though from Kolašinac and obviously very delighted to see it bounce off the bar. They're in for a second here but for some brave goalkeeping. Edin Džeković seemed destined to skip through for number two. >> Yeah, we talked about this how you're just going to be patient, build that foundation on defense, and you get chances. You'll get one over the top. You'll get one on one with the goalkeeper. >> Forward towards Katić. Lukić with the header back. Kolašinac keeping it alive. Ćorluka came a fair way for that at the cost of a corner. Oh, it's a free header and Hadžiahmetović didn't make the most of it. >> He just couldn't get underneath that really. It was just a little bit high. He was under some pressure. >> [cheering] >> Katić and Hadžiahmetović as well. Lovely feet to create the opening. Where's this going to go? Thomas David trying to twist and turn, but there was no room. Here you go, Canada once again. Ball to look for in the middle. Eustaquio, bit of room. Couldn't quite angle it towards that top corner. So many were hoping it would nestle. >> I think he was claiming that there was a little bit of a deflection, a little glance off one of the Bosnia players for a corner. It appears to be a goal kick. >> Stoffelberg nicely brought down. And there's THE HEADER AND ONCE AGAIN Bosnia and Herzegovina are well stocked at the back at the vital moments. >> [cheering] [cheering] >> Incredible. It really is incredible. >> Cornelius Koné Bosnia and Herzegovina are sitting their formation just saying "Come and attack us then. Make something happen then." Canada looking to OBLIGE HERE. IT'S CYLE LARIN! THE GOAL SCORING FEELING THEY CRAVED on their own patch. CYLE LARIN STEPS FORWARD FOR CANADA FROM THE BENCH TO DELIGHT ALL THOSE WATCHING ON. >> [cheering] >> AND HOW THE GAME CHANGES IN A FLASH. >> As in football brilliance, you can be on the front foot, you can be defending really well, and then just like you see, in a flash, it changes. Jesse Marsch has gone full out with attack. He's made four really offensive decisions here to get an opportunity to go for a goal, to get at least a point from this game, and Larin hasn't disappointed like he has done on many occasions. You can't get away from that. >> [cheering] >> Time ticking down in the sixth minute of six added. Shaffelburg moves it on. Laryea, OPTIONS IN THE MIDDLE. LARIN IS THERE. AND ONCE AGAIN, THEY THROW THEMSELVES IN THE WAY in Bosnia and Herzegovina colors. Muharemovic heroically denying a Canada second. Amazing. Canada's first ever World Cup finals point comes on home soil. In some ways, they'll cherish it. In other ways, they'll very much have felt they could have had two more. For both nations, a platform from which to build in the days and weeks ahead. Bosnia frustrated to let a lead slip, but delighted at their defensive efforts. It's been a great game to watch. It ends Canada one, Bosnia and Herzegovina one.
