Alajbegovic WORLDIE | Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-1 Qatar | 2026 World Cup EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS
Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Qatar 3-1 to reach the World Cup knockout stage, with Alajbegovic's worldie and Dzeko's influence the main story
This extended highlights package covers Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar, with the commentary focusing on Bosnia's long-range shooting, Dzeko's role and Qatar's low block and counterattacks. Bosnia won 3-1 to all but seal a last-32 place, while Qatar's comeback goal was not enough to change their exit.
- This World Cup has so far belonged to the golden oldies — Messi has been turning back the clock, Miller is the only outfield player to feature at 40 or older, Ronaldo scored yesterday, and 40-year-old Dzeko is hoping to join that club
- Four points should be enough for either Bosnia or Qatar to progress — A win today would almost certainly put them through, and at worst they would be among the best third-placed teams
- Qatar can make it count today through counterattacks, especially after Bosnia set pieces — The first ball forward was cut out, the second was not, and Qatar broke away; Sunic had to be careful not to concede a red card
- Qatar should be pleased to keep Bosnia shooting from outside the box — Qatar conceded 58 shots in their first two games and had only eight themselves; Bosnia's five chances in that spell all came from outside the box, and Qatar defended in a 4-5-1 low block
- Alajbegovic's individual quality can beat even a packed defense, and he is the face of Bosnia's football future — He scored a worldie from outside the box even though Qatar had bodies behind the ball
- Dzeko is the best player Bosnia have ever produced and a role model for the squad — He created a key goal moment, and Bosnia used his strengths by getting balls into the box
- Qatar's World Cup is not over yet — Qatar responded well after conceding, and a clever lay-back created the goal
- Bosnia had a strong claim for a penalty — The ball ricocheted into the area and did hit a hand, and Bosnia's players strongly appealed for it
Four goals to enjoy from this Group B encounter between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar. 18 years old at the time, Kerim Alajbegovic scored the best of the bunch to set his team on course for victory. This has so far been a World Cup for the golden oldies. Messi has been turning back the clock prior to this tournament. Roger Miller in 1994, the only outfield player to have featured in a World Cup age 40 or older. He was the only goal scorer that age too. Of course, Ronaldo scored yesterday and Eden Joeko at 40 years of age will now be hoping to join that very exclusive club. A win here today for either team would almost certainly put them through. The worst case would be as one of the best placed third place finishers. We might have to wait to see how the other teams elsewhere get on. But four points here should be enough today for either Bosnia or Qatar to progress. Bosnia can only get guaranteed progression today if they win. And Canada lose Vancouver and Bosnia overturn a nine-goal difference. That is unlikely but mathematically possible. Bosnia try to surge on their first attack of the day. Aljhadus finds themselves immediately crowded out and a shot to target from Jo inside the opening 90 seconds. The 40year-old means business today. Bosnia getting down his left hand side twice already. Alameovic, it's another attempt on target. Two now in 2 and 1/2 minutes for Bosia. It feels like it's going to be a very busy day for Makmoud Albanada in the Qatari goal. He's got options of plenty here, but all eyes on one man, Joic. That's unfortunate for Qatar. In fact, it still might fall through it junior here. And he's got support too. A thief. Does he have the acceleration? Good recovery from Ivan Shunic. But that's how Qatar can make it count today. those counterattacks particularly after Bosian set pieces. >> What a vital interception. The first ball forward got cut out. The second didn't and a thief was away. He thought he was. Shunic was really careful not to put in a challenge that would bring a thief down and therefore finish with a red card. He does really well to get a toe on that. That's a smart turn. It was a long way out but it was dipping towards the top corner. Ivan Bashic who's never scored an international goal. This was almost spectacular. Caught it sweetly. Cross from Malachi blocked by Sultan Alre. Bashic can't get up to the return. And this is a free kick within shooting range for Boss. >> He's been dangerous. It's Ivan Bashic. >> He's had a couple of attempts at goal, but it's good play again playing a little one two on the edge of the box. >> All over it. Alameovic hits the wall and one of the wall took that full on the face. >> They've conceded 58 shots in the first two games, only had eight themselves. So that shouldn't really surprise us that Bosnia have had the majority of the efforts on goal. Of the five chances we saw there for Bosnia, all of them have come from outside of the box and I think Kat be pleased with that. Keep them at range. >> Yeah, they're getting plenty of bodies behind the ball. They're set up 451 without the ball. Low block inviting Bosnia to have plenty of possession. >> Oh, what a moment. The 18year-old illuminate Seattle. BOSNIA GET THEIR TEENAGE KICKS AND THEY COULD BE GOING THROUGH TO THE LAST 32 THANKS TO A PIECE OF MAGIC FROM KIM ALABOVIC. And it's another shot from outside the box. But this one does find the back of the net. You can have as many bodies behind the ball as you like, but when you've got someone with his quality, it doesn't make any difference. He is the face of the future of Bosnian football. PASS DEFLECTED OVER IN OFFER DEFENDER SULTAN ALO 150 caps but for Bosnia HE STILL WEARS THE crown it'll go down as his own GOAL BUT IT'S JO WHO'S CREATED it >> well we talked about getting balls into the box. Can you play to Eding Joeko's strength? He's the best player that Bosnia have ever produced. He's a role model for the rest of the squad. But he's produced a moment. Eding Jo and Bosnia, you feel as though they're on their way through to the last 32. >> Alameovic has spotted the runo. CAN HE MAKE IT THROUGH? IS CUT BACK OFF THE POST. You cannot get any closer than that. Still alive for Jo. Tried to get it back to Bashic. He was on side Edo and at 40 years of age he just sprint with everything he had there. Do you know 40 years of age not the quickest but that elite movement is still there. Fatty Cookie. This is a thief looking for Pedro and almost back in for a thief and at Milson Junior on Self and it's into the back of the net. Hassan Al-Hadus. Maybe, just maybe, KATAR'S WORLD CUP AIN'T OVER YET. It has been a good response. It's really clever from Ed Milson Jr. to knock it back into the space rather than go for goal himself. Hadus in a much better position and he just guides it home. The legendary figure of Qatari football has got them back in it. Something they're carving through the boss in midfield. A thief again. THIS IS PEDRO THE POST AGAIN. Second time in the game that the frame of the goal denies. Bosnia have hit the post. Katar have hit the post. Pedro can keep his composure this time round. That could have leveled it up for 2-2. >> It's been such an exciting first half and this is the best bit of football we've seen from Qatar for eight. And there was all sorts of panic in the penalty area for Qatar. >> It's a wonderful switch of play. A second goal of the game for Switzerland. So the co-hosts are now two-0 down. Doesn't fundamentally change much here other than it's now a six goal swing that Bosnia would need. HERE'S ALVIE SIDE AGAIN. Aramif so close to leveling this up at 2-2. >> Big opportunity. He knows it. Back to Aziz. A thief. Oh, it opened up for him and he's somewhat lashed at the shot. A thief. Another chance for Qatar. Deich did just enough actually to put him under enough pressure to make it a difficult effort. >> Taken short. Barakarovic back to Bashic trying to steady himself. Too many bodies in the way. Pedro will be able to half clear. Drilled back in by Rendelic. Still alive. Sage. IS THAT THE GOAL THAT WILL SEND BOSNIA THROUGH TO THE KNOCKOUT STAGES of this World Cup? IT'S HIS SECOND OF THE TOURNAMENT. Urman Mavic MAKES IT BOSNIA THREE. KATAR WALL. That should be the job done for Bosnia. The two goal lead restored. They kept it alive. They actually wanted a penalty. I think there was big big claims for a hand ball. When this ball ricochets into the area, it does hit a hand. And Bosnia were adamant that it should have been a penalty. It doesn't matter. Big big celebrations. Bosnia feel as though they've done enough. Mavic who's been full of running since coming on. Ki unselfish but was it the right call? Alz decided not to go for goal himself. I >> tell you what, that's a terrific recovery from Kasim. He has shown all his experience today. The left back >> there is Radelich feeling a crap late on. Win or bust coming into it for both sides. They both had to go for it and that's exactly what they've done. >> PEDRO GOES FOR IT. They might be leaving the World Cup, but Pedro doesn't want to go in a whimper. >> Gets a touch on this. A long way out. The referee blows the final whistle and Bosnia and Herza have beaten Katar by three goals to one. The 12 long years of wait is about to come to an end for Bosnia. They're on their way to the knockout stages. Bosnian heads over to three. Katar won.
