McGinn Ends 36-Year Wait For Win | Haiti v Scotland | 2026 World Cup EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS
McGinn Ends 36-Year Wait as Scotland Win at World Cup
This is extended highlights of Haiti v Scotland in the 2026 World Cup. Scotland win through McGinn's goal, their first World Cup win since 1990, while the commentary focuses on Haiti's fearless counterattacks, Scotland's fading press, the timing of McGinn's goal, and Haiti's missed chances.
- Haiti are fearless going forward and will commit numbers against anyone — When they win the ball, as many as five players push forward, whether they play Scotland or Brazil.
- Scotland stopped pressing after their opening spell and let Haiti back into the game — They pressed the ball for the first two or three minutes, then stopped attacking it, and chances started coming Haiti's way.
- McGinn's goal came at exactly the right time for Scotland because Haiti were growing into the game — Haiti were just coming into it and creating chances, so Scotland needed that goal.
- Haiti will try to overload Scotland on one side more in the second half — Their full-back kept pushing forward and they planned to commit extra players there.
- Scotland should have scored again and may live to regret it — It was one of the best chances of the night, but the shot was dragged wide.
- Haiti got a recharge after their substitutions and began causing problems out wide — Their wide players were lively on both flanks, winning a corner and putting Scotland under pressure.
- Haiti's header was the best chance of the night and they needed more crosses like that — The cross was very good, but the header went just wide, and the player had time to do better.

The city of Boston throws open its doors to Haiti and Scotland with the message, "Welcome back to the big time." for Haitians and Scots everywhere. The wait to return to a FIFA World Cup is finally over. The one they've waited for the first game of their group C campaign and Ganondoke combining well in these early stages for Scotland. Ganond routine one for placed. [cheering] More than half a century since Hades men were last at a World Cup. And of all the countries competing here, no team who have been at this tournament before have had to wait longer for another appearance. And here they come for the first time with Dedson sized it up, but got it all wrong. >> You see when they win the ball, look at the numbers that go forward. You got 1 2 3 4 five. They're not afraid to go forward against anyone. You'll see that against Scotland. You'll see that against Brazil. It doesn't matter who they play. [cheering] >> Collecting it and then delightfully sending it back towards Robertson again. And it's a decent ball in and a towering header from McTominay. >> Really clever linko play again with Robertson and him again. And look at four in the box. >> Seven years into his spell now Steve Clark as head coach of Scotland. >> Possession and there is a bit of a roar from the home crowd every time that 82 get the ball. And now they've got it inside Scotland's penalty area but they can't do anything more with it. But the threats are there. >> They are. And again, they threw five players forward. The the back lines getting forward. They're really trying to catch Scotland on the counter. This over hits this a little bit behind him. [cheering] >> Now, Luis did. And that was a cross with some interest. A hit over the top from from Rick Belgards >> again. And this time they're getting a little bit of possession in Scotland's defensive third. [cheering] Spiron is attacked. It was a little too vigorously armed into the back of Jack Hendry. >> For that first two or three minutes, Scotland was applying pressure. They were getting pressure to the ball. They've just stopped attacking the ball. They've stopped putting pressure on the ball. And the chances are coming Hades way. >> Here is Ganondoke up the other end for Scotland. And they are coming to join him. But Ganondok is trying to MAKE IT. BUT TOMMIN'S HIT THE POST. Placid was beaten. >> Absolutely was beaten. What a really good run. Sharp run by Ganondoke. [cheering] >> Here's Piro. This game has got a beautiful zip to it. Dson >> over the head of Isidor. Not by much. >> No, not by much at all. >> Chances at both ends. This is what happens every time Haiti plays. Nice little move. McTominay times his run perfectly. Has placed beaten. He can only sit down. Really unlucky. Did everything right. [cheering] >> [cheering] >> towards Isidador who looked after it brilliantly. [cheering] Ditson. It's too close to this gun that time. [cheering] Shay Adams who has brought it down a treat. Ganon do now past experience. Adams was there AND MCGIN AND IN FOR SCOTLAND. [cheering] A GOAL ALMOST THREE DECADES IN the making. [cheering] Scotland are here and they have pressed the GO BUTTON ON THEIR 2026 WORLD CUP. >> [cheering] >> John McIn with the goal. [cheering] Well, maybe some special words by Steve Clark at the water break. It's a really welltimed run and in one we won situations, he has very quick feet. tucks a little shoulder. Really good save by placed at first and then really unlucky. McIn scuffs his shot deflected in the goal. This is exactly what Scotland needed. Haiti was just coming into the game. They were the ones that were creating the chances and this is a goal at the absolute right time for Scotland. [cheering] And John McIn becomes the first Scottish player to score a World Cup goal since Craig Burley against the Norwegians. [cheering] >> That's silly. >> Fair bit of hands there from Andy Robertson as well. It's a free kick for the push on Car's Arcus. A few set pieces dotted around the Scotland penalty area so far. This one in from Balgard and the header from Isidor isn't a problem for Angus Gun. [cheering] Final seconds of the half indeed. They are the last seconds of the half, but he's the main man as he has been on many occasions for Scotland. [cheering] It's a decent ball. Shanklin and Ganondoke. He was the one that reached it. And at the end of it all, a Scotland corner. [cheering] Raance some swirl on the delivery gunner to keep his keepers active and he did. Would have been wondering whether Piro would have got a graze on it. >> And the last two balls in the box have been a bit better. [cheering] Spirance who has crept forward whenever possible from that left back birth the Haiti number eight >> a lot more in the second half obviously M that's part of his plan to try to overload Scotland on this side safely into the grasp of gun >> great purveyor of your uh your goalkeepers Brad Fredel so I'm sure you remember the name Jim Leighton the late >> of course 1998 8. He was their starting keeper. Correct. >> Wasn't it was in 86 when he kept that clean sheet from Delua for Haiti and the ball has fallen nicely for Mcin who could and perhaps should have scored again for Scotland. That is one of the best chances of the whole night. >> Yeah, it's a decent clearance. Haiti gets out just a bit unlucky. McKenzen a great opportunity. He just drags it wide. >> Scotland lived to regret that maybe. Robos for Haiti trying to find the angle. Did find the angle. Threw everything at it to try and get the crucial touch to. >> Well, I don't think he was trying to pass it to the far post. He was definitely trying to curl it around or maybe a cross shot. Arcus fast, fearless fullback who is making his way forward now. Joseph's touch. It nearly came the way of the right back too. Very good thought, good skill, good run. Birgard's Jean Rick Bellgard plows it at Grant Hanley. He's taken back off McTominay. We didn't see Providence coming. And [cheering] Providence gets Haiti a corner and they have had a recharge to the battery life. >> Absolutely. Providence went over on the right hand side. Casemir on the left hand side causing a lot of problems. Donjac Marcus. >> GOOD HEADER. IT'S JUST WIDE. Frony Piro got up brilliantly >> and Angus Gun was worried. >> Best chance of the night. Very good cross. They needed more of those tonight. Piro's going to want that back. He had the time. [cheering] Crashes one forward again in Pope more than anything else. And it comes to Piro who did well just to get a shot away as he was stumbling. >> He did. He lost his footing and just tried to have some acrobatics and get a shot on target which he did. [cheering] [applause] SCOTLAND HAVE WON AT A WORLD CUP FOR THE FIRST time since 1990 and they are going to be painting the town tartan tonight.
