in Sydney tonight in group H. Both opening match winners. Germany 6-nil over Morocco. Colombia 2-nil over Korea Republic. Morocco have joined the party earlier today with that victory over Korea Republic, which means victory this evening for Germany and they will be qualified for the last 16 with one match to spare. Well, let's head down to pitch side as we see our two sides in the tunnel >> for the welcome to country >> to perform today's welcome to country. Good evening. My name is Alan Madden Gatala. for my first song. Nah, welcome to country is always an honorable pleasure. Just to give you a little bit of an insight of where you are and who we are. Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge our first nations and traditional owners of the lands that you may have come from or work upon and pay my respects to all our Aboriginal elders. All elders past and present also pay my respects. To all our Aboriginal and Tor straight islander brothers and sisters from whatever Aboriginal island nation you may have come from. Welcome to Gatigle. And to all our non-indigenous brothers and sisters, a very warm and sincere welcome to you to Gatigle. No matter where you've come from, whether it be across the seas, across the state, or across town, once again, a very warm and sincere welcome to you to Gatal. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Well, it is a sea of yellow in the stands and another sellout crowd and you can hear the roar because they've just seen Linda Quedo on the big screens inside the stadium as well. A remarkable week for her scoring. the first teenager to score in this tournament with a wonderful goal. Helped by the Korean keeper perhaps, but then collapsed in training during the week. Reportedly lost consciousness after gripping her chest for up to 90 seconds. But she's back and here tonight and the battle for supremacy in group H. is set to continue here. European Championship runners up. Germany who issued a message of intent in their opening match. 6-0 victors over Morocco are led out by their captain Alexandra Pop. They take on a Colombia side who are looking to show that they are more than just making up the numbers at this tournament. A massive evening in prospect and it starts as always with the national anthems. Heat up here. Heat up here. Please remain standing if you are able for the national anthem of Colombia. Heat up here. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Well, two fantastic renditions of the national anthems there. Germany may start favorites, but the home crowd favorite in a home away from home is Colombia. here the Colombian community who were already very vocal and colorful in their opening match against Korea Republic and help them get across the line there while they face a stern test listening against a German side who are looking for a third world championship crown. the man shaft and their emblematic goal scorer Alexandra Pop Germany in five previous matches against South America. American opposition have never lost and they'll be hoping that continues today. Our referee is from Honduras, Melissa Boras. The 36y old already at her third World Cup. She refereed Italy versus Argentina earlier in this tournament. Six yellow cards handed out in that one. Now V official Armando Val from the United States of America leading the team as we have a look at the German lineup and Martina Voskllandberg making two changes from the side that swept aside Morocco injured. Felicitas Ralph is replaced by Shantal Hagel at left back and 21-year-old Wolfsburg star Lena Obedorov is fit again after a thigh injury. Melanie Luros makes way up front. Captain Alexandra Pop leads that fourpronged attack. Well, for Colombia, just the one change as the defense that kept that clean sheet against Korea Republic returns. The change comes in midfield where Lady Andrada, who also scored against France and England at the World Cup in 2015, makes her entrance into the big dance. The big surprise is up front where 18-year-old Linda Kaisedo, who collapsed in training four days ago, has been passed fit to play alongside Myra Ramirez and Catalina Usme in attack. And there she is, Linda Kaisedo, who became the first teenager to score and the first goal scorer from outside the box in this tournament when she netted the second against Korea Republic. Alexandra Pop, she got two, almost a hat-tick. She has scored in her last six major tournament appearances, including in all five at the Euro. A player for the biggest stage. It's Germany that get us underway to a roar, a wall of noise from the terraces at the Sydney football stadium. Merciless against Morocco in their opening match. Rian Skinner, Germany will face a stern test this evening. Yeah, the opportunity of qualifying this evening after 90 minutes with a win is surely extra motivation for them. >> 100%. I think it was interesting at the start. They had such a steely determination in the warm-up and obviously in the lineup at the beginning there and I think they've said in a couple of press conferences, you know, they're focusing on their job. The players that have come in, very good assets to the team. It's a strong squad and they're not going to get drawn into anything tonight. So, let's see what they're capable of. >> Well, they have an excellent record against South American opposition. They're on a run at the moment, a World Cup record run of 20 group stage matches without defeat going back to 1995. They don't know about taking it easy or starting slow. as it's an early ball in for Colombia and a thumping header away from the captain popa Durango number five already with a couple of silky touches in that wide left position. really amazing scenes. If you saw the video of Colombia training where the team was jogging around and the youngster Kaisedo, who plays a football for Real Madrid, grabbed at her chest and then crumpled to the ground, surrounded by teammates and medical staff. There was grave concerns for her health, but she's back. And there is the man that made the decision, a coach that she had when she was a youngster as well, Angelo Masilia, who's assistant coach to Nelson Abadia, who watches from the stands. He's serving the second of a two match ban after a red card at the end of the copper America. Feminina final lost by goal to nil against Brazil. Colombia. They're looking to make a bright start here. Flag could go up against Ramirez who was just coming back from offside. The big number nine was exceptional in the opening match against Korea Republic. And of course, Morocco getting up earlier today over Korea Republic has changed the face of this group H. again. A strong challenge. The number nine, Svena Hood. There's a little bit of uh fighting talk from Germany in the press conferences coming into this game just saying that they felt that the Colombian defense was a little bit of a weakness and uh they were going to try and exploit areas between lines and to be honest where Germany are concerned they've got exceptional players at working in between lines with in particular. So we'll see. There is Martina Teenberg, the tactician of this German side, fourtime European champion, a runner up at the World Cup in 95 as well. There's an early free kick back post beyond everyone unable to get on the end of that one. Al has also apart from scoring against Morocco has been hard at work off the pitch her last year during the Euros. She learned to crochet when she was off the pitch with co and uh has come up with something of a mascot for the German side here in Australia. Let's see if we can find a shot of the bear, the koala bear at some point, but it is the uh mascot and has been following the team everywhere making appearances at press conferences. Now on the attack, Andraana unable to keep it in, but positive from Lady Andrada. >> Yeah, first first positive attack there. Just slightly longer ball just to stretch Germany a little bit. Um couple of times when the ball's gone into the German team long, they've just headed clear into sort of areas that make it 50/50, but they've probably had time the back line to just bring it down and start to play. Maybe just easing their way into uh the game and settling the nerves a little bit, but Alexandra Pop flicking on another header there. Big one defensively before and that's what she does so well. B trying to cut inside onto the right boot. Haggle manages to find Hop again and confronted by a very compact and dense Colombia midfield and defense. She pulls it all the way back to a keeper. It's another flick on touch just lets it down that time. quality with Caribou. She's capable of going on the outside and beating players 1 v one, but she is predominantly right footed. So when she does cut inside, she gets goal scoring opportunities from similar to the one that was just blocked there. You'll certainly see her doing more of that tonight. I'm sure she missed the semi-final and the final last year with co still named in the team of the tournament though. just 22 years of age, one of a number of young German players in this squad with uh exceptionally bright futures. Peso again gets it back. Good switch of play across here with Aras who along with Vanas is sitting on a yellow card. The two fullbacks for Colombia as Ramirez who is a willing runner draws the first corner of the match for the Colombians. Physically tough player Ramirez. She was for me the best player for Colombia in the last game and she's showing her intent in the final third again there and she's just played for the corner. Not done anything rash there just to force the defensive mistake really to get the corner kick. >> Catalina who scored from the penalty spot against Korea with the ball in to the back post. Ramirez and the first chance of the match goes the way of the South American side. That's a great ball to the far post and she's connected with it well, just not directed it on target and it's certainly getting the Colombian fans in this stadium even more revved up for the game more so than what they were at the start and they've certainly been the loudest in this stadium. Pop again with the glancing header, but Aul can't get there. again. Strong from Pop knocking over Voga Durango Ditzul Odorov the number six who missed the opening match of the tournament with a thigh strain for Germany but as soon as she fit again straight back into the side. Chelsea's Lupos, the player making way. She was the youngest player in the German squad four years ago. Now she's one of the most important decided to leave it to Arias. She wasn't expecting it and pop forces the high turnover. Bull's ball in is a good one. Germany flexing a little bit of muscle. Hood with the cross back in towards Magul. White shirts crowding around. They've kept it alive here nicely. Mina Magul wants a runner down that right hand side. Not forthcoming. Now it does. It's well played. Good cross in as well playing by Perez. Yeah, it's an interesting decision. So, Svenia who has played a number of different positions for this German team and moving into fullback. Um, Julia Quinn was the regular right back for Germany and and was unfit for this tournament and she's taken up this position, but she's such an effective crosser of the ball. So, fully expect her to be getting down that right hand side and continuing to help get balls into key areas for for Germany in this game. Not the first number nine we've seen filling in at full back at this tournament though. Rachel Daly for the Lioness's as well. One of a number of players that tries her trade with Wolfsburg in the women's Bundesliga. Champions League runners up this season as well. Fantastic campaign. Another cup win, but it was Bayern Munich that won the league title in Germany. Just beaten out of play as the Colombians trying to play it in a very tight perimeter. I like the way that they're they're still trying to stick to their game though in that they like to play short. They like to play quick combinations and they're not fearful of Germany here. Still trying to play their way. Um, some teams can give teams like Germany a little bit too much respect, but they're getting tight. They're putting them under pressure and then they're trying to play their way when they're in possession. There was so much made of the abandoned friendly match against the Republic of Ireland in the leadup to the tournament. Perhaps a physical reputation was somewhat exaggerated in the fallout there, but we saw a an aggressive side against Korea Republic, but aggressive in every positive sense of the word. >> Certainly competitive and you know, German team are physically competitive and robust as well. And this is the top level of the game. You expect that from the players. You know, we want to see players that are committed to gaining results. Free kick. Another one for Germany. We've already seen the first played in. There's the signal in it. It comes pop. Forever the target. Goal kick is the decision, but uh Alexandra Pop not impressed. And the replay suggests she had a case. She's a huge threat in terms of her aerial ability. Alexandra Park, very few players in the women's game have scored as many goals with their head as what she has. So, it's understandable that you get a couple of players around her to try and stop her from having a free header in those situations and she's still coming out on top at the moment. >> Importantly, for Colombia will be getting their key players onto the ball. And nearly 15 minutes in, Myra Ramirez has only had two touches of the football. She had 74 in the opening match, the third most of any Colombian player. Germany tactically will have done their homework. Of course, there's one thing marking the player. There's also cutting off the supply line as Aras looks forward towards Lady Andrada. I think what we were just looking at there, Germany trying to draw the midfield of Colombia, a little bit shorter from Lena McGull to operate in between lines and the Brits was trying to play that into her early the ball there. >> Alexandra Pop has gone down right near the center circle. She's holding her ribs on the left hand side. Let's have a look off the ball there. It's Aras just stepped into the challenge. Hard to see from that distance if there was too much in it, but certainly Alexander Pop is a tough customer. There's the number three Daniela Aras who along with Carabali was excellent against Korea Republic. They really denied them very few opportunities in the opening match. Pop is back to a feet. That incredible record. Six goals in five matches at the Euros last year. Followed it up with another two here. That's six major tournament matches consecutively scoring. and she took her international tally to 64 in 129 matches. So, one in every two on the international stage, top scorer in the Bundesliga as well this year with full score. >> Immediately back into the action. She's won every header so far. >> Yes, she's so difficult to deal with. um just physically so strong and obviously her ability to jump and get the height and her timing is superb and there's often runners HR was trying to run in behind there to anticipate those flip ons with Magulanas gets it forward only as far as Odorf Got another player down. It's Mul this time who's holding her right ear. Couple of words from Catalina Ruseme as well. Pedoga. It's a slightly high arm, isn't it? There. So, I think she's caught possibly with the forearm or the elbow there. That may have started low, but it certainly rose up onto who was excellent in that opening match for Colombia. So far, we haven't seen too much of what Germany promised yesterday in the press conferences, which was fast switches of play in between the lines. It's where we expect the likes of Magul Grand and Bull to be operating. >> I think in fairness to Colombia, they are pressing from inside to out. So they're the way that they're approaching the German players when the ball comes into wide areas is actually stopping them from coming in such as that's a great example. They're anticipating that and stopping them from then coming back in to switch the ball as comfortably as maybe they were hoping to to be able to do >> with pop back to Harle all the way back again. Organized Colombian defense and pressure doing the business. B loses out that time. The doja. Oh, well left by looking for Ramirez and had to be alert. It was S Dun's po. He's planned over again by Karavali. It's a great awareness of each other in that Colombian attack there with Usme just knowing where Ramirez is going to run. She's obviously got herself in a 1 v one and it's it's great covering from Dorson with Odorf again. Agleson inviting Grand into the match again. This will be I guess the prototype of how we expect this match to play out. Germany with the football. for Colombia which is starting to press up a little bit under pressure on the way back with France. You can see this tactic is a big one for Germany to try and exploit the gap between the midfield and defensive unit. Find Alexander Pop in the air and then the numbers in attack. >> He's done that brilliantly. The switch of play but no way past for Lebron. See the intent of the German team there. Great recovery attitude there to swarm the ball and regain possession in their opponent's half. See Colombia taking nearly a minute to win back possession. They are literally playing without the ball. at the moment. Just 30% controlled possession in the opening 21 minutes. No way through for Overdorf though, but she's won it back. Strong in the challenge. Lovely play and great composure. AND THE CHANCE OH, COMPLETELY MISS IT. OVERDORF again and Colombian bodies throwing themselves with desperation in front of the ball. Can see a corner in Rodolf just unbelievably strong there. Just making life so difficult. You know, obviously the touch not quite right, but straight away her reactions are superb to win the ball back. And great ball through and Lena McGull just snatching at that there and I had a fancied her to get that on target based on her qualities in front of goal usually but Colombia just putting all their bodies on the line. Fantastic attitude to defending Techlenberg happy as Germany start to tighten the screw. 22 international goals for Lena Magul scored in the leadup to this tournament as well against South Africa and Sweden. Here it comes Perez. Think she was anywhere near it at first, but it fell into her arms as she headed to the ground. She through a lot of bodies there and really committed to it. So, credit to her. It's difficult to take through that many people. She's looked after it well. That's a fantastic forward ball from Columbia. And away that time by Durango and pop under pressure. Ditz with Odorf. Ason Emish with the feet of Clara Bull. Now the switch towards Yul Lebron, but it's picked off again by Carolina Aras. It's only the second time that Germany have looked to do that and it's been put out or pressed put out on that occasion and pressed heavily on the last one. So there's the glancing header again from Park. Well defended by Venus. There we see Germany playing that direct ball forward. Now the early cross. Carabali Benas gets it clear. Bed out at first but immediately wins it back. Obedorf lovely turn bringing in the captain Montoa and then taking her out of the game. Deritz nicely done with Magul Ditz again getting numbers forward here. Germany towards ground. It's good covering. Great reading of the game there from Carabali. needed to make sure she got that tackling because there's numbers coming into the box for Germany as well. Ditz with Hargle. Little touch for Ditz again. It wasn't the easiest of balls. Throw goes Colombia's way. >> Definitely opportunity for Hogle there to come inside, try and open up the game a little bit for Germany. It's just put the Brits under a little bit of pressure there. There is Ul 2022 European young player of the year, the golden girl as awarded by the
