U15 fighting for the trophy in the U15 Elite Cup! 🏆 | Campus Story Special
This special edition of Campus Story is all about our U15 team and their impressive performance at the U15 Elite Cup on home turf. Under the watchful eyes of Michael Wiesinger (Head of Sports and Youth Development at the FC Bayern Campus), U15 head coach Sebastian Weiß, and Maximilian Straub (Youth Development Coordinator), the Bayern youth team got off to a successful start in the tournament: After a hard-fought 1-1 draw in their opener against Chelsea FC, they followed it up with a narrow but well-deserved 1-0 victory over Galatasaray. In their final group match, the team demonstrated its class, confidently defeating FC Barcelona’s highly regarded La Masia youth academy 3-1. With seven points to their credit, the U15s secured a well-deserved group victory. In the quarterfinals, the team continued its winning streak, not giving Arsenal FC the slightest chance in a dominant 4-0 victory. The semifinals finally brought another showdown with FC Barcelona. In a thrilling match, the two youth teams were tied 1-1 after regulation time. In the ensuing penalty shootout, the Munich team kept their cool, prevailed 4–3, and secured their spot in the grand final. There, FC Porto awaited the Bayern youth team. The final was also pure drama: After another 1–1 tie at the end of regulation time, the tournament title once again had to be decided by a penalty shootout. In the end, the Portuguese had that little bit of luck on their side and secured the title with a 5–4 victory. Despite narrowly missing out on the tournament title, the U15 team can look back on an outstanding performance in this high-caliber tournament. ► Wanna see more of Musiala, Olise, Kane & Co.? With heart, with passion, with emotions, take it all in now and take it with you into the game. I think it's a really good youth tournament. We've defined this once and it's hanging up in the dressing room, and this is exactly what we'll be holding you to, but you'll also be holding us to a bit. You stated yourselves that the aim of the U15s at the Elite Cup is winning the tournament. That's your aim and we on the staff and everyone sitting around here will do everything possible to make your aim a reality. That's exactly why we're all sitting here now. We've got three days. Again, we are one team and we have one goal. Have fun, boys. I hope you have fun. Are you actually nervous? Fine. Fine? Yeah. Okay, have fun, okay. Don't forget that. Be brave, yeah. Wear this badge, wear this shirt in our home stadium with full pride, full courage. Show them out there what Bayern Munich football looks like. Show them out there that we can also work without the ball. Show them out there that we have one goal, that we're a team. Enjoy, Bayern. Lets go! Essentially, the expectation of the team, especially in a tournament like this... It's a home tournament, I don't think we should forget that either. So there's certainly a bit more tension among the boys, and the staff too. You want to give a good account of yourselves in a big tournament at home. On top of that, it's an Elite Cup and a tournament that they have obviously been looking forward to for years and now it's finally here. There's a lot going on around it. The first time playing in the stadium, the first time in the U19 dressing room. Everything's big, everything's loud, everything's new. Nevertheless the expectation, I think detached from the result to an extent, is that we just want to be the best version of ourselves in every game. We want to go to our maximum limit. We want to push and extend our limits. How do we play, how do we perform? How do we overcome resistance? There will be resistance in the next two days. There was already some against Chelsea. There were periods in the game - we want the boys to see, that they then overcome, where they're willing to do things that might be unpleasant. That's what matters most to me. And in my experience of football, it's always worked out that when we've changed that, then we were probably more successful. Just one thing - and you had a great game - but just try in those moments to shoot somehow, even if it's a toe-poke. Because there are so many bodies in front of you, do you know what I mean? Maybe he won't see it at all. Okay? But you had a great game. Okay, come on boys, we're going in! What I find brilliant here is that we have lots of cultural differences. Lots of different playing philosophies coming up against each other, at the highest level, where you can give the boys a new challenge every minute. And where every minute of play is a learning opportunity. And for us it's world class when you get to welcome such a high level here at the Campus. I think it has a real international shine. Top teams here, the organisation is also excellent from what I've seen this week. The people at Bayern go to great effort to stage it perfectly. I think it's a really good youth tournament. Get what you allowed to be taken from you a bit, especially in the first 50 minutes here. Get your first three points of the tournament, get yourselves a great position for tomorrow, get yourselves a great feeling for tomorrow, and have fun. Vamos! Yeah, just be a bit more patient, but still play it through to the end with purpose. Stay sharp without the ball. We all have a very close and very trusting relationship with one another. The values of FC Bayern are always there somewhere. So the badge isn't just on the chest but also in the chest. My role is just to be there. If I feel that I can help, then I try to but without being intrusive, just being the person who has their back, who supports, who's there when there are questions. Okay, boys, gather round. It's not enough. We can't just play good football for three quarters and then forget the final quarter. That's not our style. That's also the point that can probably kill us tomorrow. Take that away as learning: the match lasts 50 minutes and not just 35. As a team to the end. But when you let my team down, then it looks like it did in the final 18 minutes. And suddenly everything gets hectic. And suddenly no one is taking responsibility. And that has to be the lesson for tomorrow. Tomorrow at 10:30, the stadium will be fired up again. Congratulations on the four points, but keep learning. Everyone has to take something home, so that we're a better Bayern Munich team tomorrow. Okay? A lot of pleasure, actually, that we get to play against these opponents. Although we also have tremendous respect for the other teams because the field of participants does obviously trigger something. It's not every day you play against Barcelona, against Inter Milan. It's certainly something special for the boys and you then notice that - with some players more than others. Let's set the stadium alight at 10:30. You're in an awesome position, you've got four points from two games, the same as Barca. Who cares, they're only human too, but they'll also say the same thing about us. We're here at home, everyone here dressed in white, all the guys here who are part of this, who work with you. Full confidence in an awesome tournament day today. This is purely a players’ game; you’ve got to get yourselves fired up and we'll add maximum input, maximum emotions to it. One thing must be clear the moment we go out: it's our game, it's our day. We strive for the very best. And we need the entire team. It's a huge task today, but if anyone can do it, you can. Okay? Have fun! I can only ever do this and turn, or I just go for it... You're not... We should only go out to the full-backs to switch quickly again. Only so that we can switch quickly again. Did you win the ball? Tell me if you can't carry on, okay? I think you are one of the best teams in the tournament. We will see. 'Mia san mia' means we want to be hungry, we want to win every tackle, we want to win every match and that's the standard we come here with. But at the same time, we try not to let anyone fall away, but rather we have defined goals, we set out targets for players, individual targets, team targets, all in a context aimed at development. But obviously we're here to win, that's clear. These are world-class moments that the boys take away from a 3-1 win against Barca or the whole group stage. So, obviously we happily take that, but one comes with the other and it's not to be viewed independently or separately. If we get a trophy out of it at the end, then that's obviously a nice thing and maybe appertains to Bayern, but for us it's more about the way. We want to have that entrenched here and it's actually unalterable in what we do. When that functions, then we're all happy. I think an important point, but also from a team perspective: we've made a huge stride so that everyone, I believe, is looking forward to that moment tomorrow, playing in a semi-final against Barca. And they will take it personally. You don't beat Barcelona 3-1 that easily. They will take it personally and we accept the challenge because we've come so far now. And what's our aim, boys? Winning the tournament. Then let's do it, okay? Day 3. Two matches, just like on Friday, just like on Saturday. I think that's how you have to approach it. It's only football. And I think you just realised yesterday, and above all learned, that when the basics are right, when we perform as a team, we can beat pretty much anyone. It doesn't matter if it's a group match or a knockout match. kay? And I think that should be the message. Going into it with the expectation of saying, we want to win this tournament by hook or by crook, would not be suitable at this age in my opinion. I have the same expectations of the boys as I have of myself and my staff. We have to try to be the best version of ourselves over the three days. We're not 11 or 18 individual players, we have one U15s, we're one team, we play together. We have to create a trusting relationship within the team. We have to create a basis within the team, where we can rely on and trust each other. We're only 50 minutes away from being just one step away. Together as a team, for our success. At 10:20, Pitch 3 will be alight. At 10:20, we unleash everything we have. At 10:20, we defeat Barcelona in the Elite Cup U15 for the second time and book our place in the final. Okay, boys? Have fun! We want to have more intensive games sometimes. We want to go full throttle in both directions, and for the boys to be prepared to go the extra mile. When you break it down, they're the basics that for me are crucial, alongside the footballing aspects. Of course we want technically good footballers, but I think a boy at Bayern must first be able to run a lot, and ideally run quickly a lot. He needs to be on the move, in the case of this tournament until the 50th-plus minute. I think that's certainly the kind of mindset we want to see at the Bayern Campus. It should also be uncomfortable playing against us. And for me, that's a kind of umbrella term for how we want to play football here. Show before the pass, show before the pass. Great ball! Enjoy the final, have fun. With heart, with passion, with emotions, take it all in now and take it with you into the game. Make it something special. Make it so that every single player standing in this circle, in a year, two years, maybe three, still remembers this moment, this match, this tournament. Make it something special I hope you have fun. Come on, Bayern! Three days full of emotions and now the final is here. Three days full of emotion and now the final is here. And they could be in here, Issifu goes to ground. No, but the ball is in, 1-0 to Bayern! Bryson Ngatchou with the opener. A lot of work goes into it, we have to keep working hard, we have to keep our foot on the pedal, we have to support each other in the duels. A little lay-off, deflected, under the crossbar, but the ball isn't in, clearly. Oh, this is dangerous. Yes, he gives the penalty. Lemos wanted to take it, Queiroz takes it and buries the equaliser, 1-1. And that's it - it's going to a penalty shootout. Whistle goes, post! It's over, Porto once again win the Elite Cup at the Campus. Unfortunately I only saw the final, but I really like the tournament. The organisation has been very good. And in particular the level, the level of the final... I was very positively surprised because I didn't expect that level. And congratulations to Porto again, but our team also played brilliantly. After that it's details, bad luck, a penalty, that happens, but I enjoyed it a lot. I can already tell you that I'll be here again next time. Please look at me, lift your heads up and puff out your chests. Why? Because you must, can and should. You've played a great tournament. I said to you in there in the meeting room, regardless of how this turns out, I'm proud of you. And you know how rarely I say that. I am truly proud of you. You did well, you put up a great fight. In the end, whether it was a penalty or not, we were caught out once and every mistake is punished at this level somehow. We also punished their mistake with the opening goal. And then, at the end of the day, it's luck, and luck was on the side of Porto today, but who knows if that's good? Life goes on, the sun will rise again tomorrow and none of you need to hide away. You've all done a very, very good job. In summary - the guys also said this - they've absolutely represented the club well. We played well across the three days of the tournament. I think we also deserved to be in the final. We deserved to win the group. The boys improved with each day of the tournament. They lived up to their potential. And also, I think, took a huge step in terms of team culture and togetherness. I'm just so proud, and for me personally, I think a huge learning point, and this is important for the boys too, is at this level, even in this age group, every mistake is punished. You switch off for one moment and you might be made to pay for it at this level. But conversely, we also punished every little mistake. And I think that's an important lesson for us all.
