Bayern's draw with Augsburg: interviews on mistakes, offside calls and preparing for Stavanger's artificial pitch
The video gathers post-match interviews after Bayern's draw with Augsburg, focusing on the early mistake, a scrappy first half, missed chances and several offside calls, as well as preparations for playing on an artificial pitch in Stavanger. The overall view is that Bayern could have done better and had some bad luck in the draw, while the target for the next game remains a win.
- The goal was my stupid mistake and I should have moved the ball to the left or made a different decision — Two players were closing me down from the right and Fellhauer was right on me; I tried to find a way out but made the wrong choice
- We were too untidy and lacked chances in the first half, and only built real sustained pressure in the second half, especially in the last 20-30 minutes — We conceded very early; the first half was not clean and we did not create enough, while the second half brought more pressure and felt like a powerplay
- We still had a chance to turn it around after the early goal but did not take our chances, and were unlucky with tight offside calls — The goal came in the first minute, so there was plenty of time; we created chances but failed to score, and four goals were disallowed for offside, which felt strange
- It was an unlucky draw and some of the offside calls were not completely clear — Several offsides were tight; we kept pushing, came back after conceding again and still had enough chances to win
- Artificial pitches are different from grass but have improved in recent years, and we can still play good football on them — I have not played on one for a long time; they used to be like short hockey-field turf, so we will have to see what it is like there
- It would be negligent not to travel early to adapt to the artificial pitch; this is nothing unusual and our goal is to win in Stavanger — We play 99 percent of the time on grass but have one game on an artificial pitch, so we need to get a feel for it beforehand
FC Bayern could not manage more than a 2-2 draw at FC Augsburg on Saturday afternoon. In their first Bundesliga match following the international break, the Munich side fought back twice after falling behind to goals from Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer (1st minute) and Rodrigo Ribeiro (64th minute). Ismael Saibari (55th minute) and Nathaniel Brown (80th minute) scored for the German champions. No fewer than four goals by the record champions were disallowed by VAR for offside. Following their second draw of this Bundesliga season, coach Vincent Kompany’s side now have eleven points after five matchdays. ► Wanna see more of Musiala, Olise, Kane & Co.? It was a stupid mistake by me. I needed to move it to the left, because there were two players running at me from the right. Fellhauer was also right on it. I tried to find a way out. I should’ve just made a different decision. Things didn’t start well with conceding that really early goal. In the first half, I think we were a bit too untidy. We didn’t have that number of chances. In the second half, there was a lot more pressure. The last 20-30 minutes in particular were a real powerplay. That’s at least how it felt to me on the pitch. I need to go within myself first, take a deep breath. I obviously still had hope because it was the first minute. It means there’s still a big chance we can turn the game around. I think we had the chances but unfortunately didn’t take them. There was also some bad luck with the tight offsides. We haven’t all been through a game like that today. It was strange that we scored so many goals but they were ruled out. But obviously we had hope from the start. We scored three or four offside goals. Four in fact. I don’t know yet how offside they were. I feel like not everything was really clear-cut, which makes it unlucky. But offside is obviously black and white. I’d call it an unlucky draw. I think we all felt, okay, we need to keep pushing now. We’ll get a second. But then we conceded a second, came back again and still had enough chances to win the game. To be honest, I haven’t played on an artificial pitch for a long time. It’s definitely different. But I think artificial pitches have changed in recent years. I don’t think they’re like when I was young, at least I hope so. That used to be that really short artificial grass that was like a hockey field. I’ll wait and see what it’s like there. But I’m sure we can still play really good football on an artificial pitch. I think it would be negligent if we as a team who play 99 percent of the time on grass but then have one game on an artificial pitch, if we didn’t travel there beforehand and get a feeling for and a look at the artificial pitch. It’s not much of a headline for me. It’s completely normal. We want to win in Stavanger. Period.
