REACTION to Brentford vs. Liverpool 🔥 'LOT OF WORK to be done for Liverpool' - Moreno | ESPN FC
ESPN FC reacts to Liverpool's win at Brentford: Isak's impact, the red card and Liverpool's concerns
This video mainly discusses Liverpool's 2-1 win at Brentford. The pundits argue Isak scored but did not do enough overall, the red card was the turning point, and while Liverpool showed heart and got a vital three points, Moreno stresses there is still a lot of work to do and Stevie is worried about Szoboszlai's hamstring injury.
- Isak was invisible apart from his goal and is not back to his best — His goal stats are impressive, but he had little impact otherwise and only 16 touches.
- If Isak wants to be the best, he has to contribute outside of scoring — A striker will not score every game, so he must offer other things when the goals dry up.
- Florian was only okay — He created nine chances and got an assist, but the pundit still did not rate his display more highly.
- The red card was the turning point and Liverpool should have been level at halftime — Brentford had very few real chances, just a header, so Liverpool were somewhat unlucky to be behind.
- Liverpool's game management after taking the lead was not good; they became defensive against 10 men — After making changes they sat back instead of keeping the pressure on and squeezing the opponent.
- Winning at Brentford being treated as a big deal shows how far Liverpool's standards have dropped, and there is still a lot of work to do — Without the red card Liverpool might have been in trouble; this win should not feel like such a surprise for them.
- The comeback win against 10 men showed Liverpool's heart and desire and is a positive sign — They got the three points and a second straight win, so there are positives to take.
- The surprise around Liverpool winning at Brentford says more about Liverpool's recent weaknesses and doubts over their fight, quality and mentality — Brentford are a good side who have started well, but the bigger issue is Liverpool's own form and questions around them.
- Szoboszlai's hamstring injury is a big problem for Liverpool and he will be out for more than two weeks — It is a recurrence of the same injury and he has already missed time with it; Frimpong's injury is less concerning.

And so Liverpool getting the win here. Alexander Isac scoring the winner for Liverpool back in the 11. It's five goals in his last five Premier League games. We're going to get to a few of the players in this maiden still with us. But Stevie, is Alexander Isach back to his best. >> Good set up by the way. I mean, you set that up for me to go. Absolutely. He was fantastic. >> But you're not going to do that. >> Well, to be honest, I the statistics are fantastic. the amount of goals he's got, but other than the goal, he was invisible. I mean, that's just the honest truth. >> Like 16 touches, but then the one that mattered got the win. >> No, exactly. So, yeah. I mean, that's he's bought to score goals and that's what he's doing. >> So, even when your goal scorer is scoring, you're still not happy Liverpool are doomed. >> You know, I it depends on it depends on your standards. That's what it depends on at the end of the day. You know, there will be times when Alexander Isak will will not be scoring five and six games and so he will have to contri contribute other things. So I'm I'm I'm sort of in the middle here. Yeah, he's done his job scoring the goals, but if you want to be the best, you have to contribute in other areas of the field as well. >> Can can I try with Florian Berts who created nine chances, got an assist. Are you happy with what you saw from him? Yeah, he was okay. Yeah, I mean, listen, there's no question the the turning point was the red card. I think I think Liverpool were unlucky that they were behind at Halime. Barker absolutely should have scored. Uh and really the Brenford head her was the only chance really they had. So at Halime, I mean it should have been level pegging for me, but obviously the red card completely changes it and Liverpool come out in the second half and they take advantage of it. to make some changes. Um, and they they win the game in the end. Now, again, if if you want to to look at this rationally and from a coach's viewpoint, the way they finished the game wasn't particularly brilliant. The fact that they got themselves ahead was perfect. And I'm I'm watching it going, "Right, don't let them off the hook. Keep the pressure on them. Don't let them out. Squeeze them." But he didn't do that. He made a couple of changes and they went a little defensive against 10 men. So listen, it's a fantastic win. It's not It's a win that we weren't expecting, but it's three points, but there's still a long way to go. >> You You just talked about standards there, Stevie. Imagine the standards now that you're saying, look, it's a great win against Brenford. It's a win that we didn't expect. That is by your standards and by your own definition how far Liverpool has gone that winning at Brenford becomes this big deal. And it is a big deal. And frankly, you use the word Liverpool are doomed. They may have been doomed had there not been a red card because if they go into halftime losing the game one- nothing and now they got to come out of halftime and they got to create opportunities and and and they're playing 11v1. Look, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if it's happening or not. The red card to Steviey's point was indeed and it's a dumb and I mean dumb red car as it pertains to dumb red cars that that's high up there because if you're gonna headbutt somebody then headbutt somebody. Don't don't give one a little a little what what what that that no if you're going to headbutt somebody then get your money's worth. Um that that didn't happen. He gets a red car, changes the game and Liverpool has an opportunity that I don't think they may have had that not happened. And so I think it's three points that you love to take home if you're a Liverpool, but it's a reminder to everybody that follows this team, including Stevie, not that he needs a reminder that there's a lot of work to be done and they're not playing last every single game of the week. >> I won't continue down the negativity train with the injuries. No, because I would have brought up the injuries as well, which is really not a good thing for Liverpool right now. But what I will say is a positive thing surely NAM is that it's a comeback win as well. >> Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Yeah. Come back win against 10. It's um it's it's fantastic news for Liverpool showing that heart and desire. But you know there there are positives to be had from it. But I think the guys are right. The fact that we're seeing a win for Liverpool where Brenford and seeing oh that's really good. That's a big surprise. I think in some ways it comes because we know that Brenford are a good side. They've started the season well. They're sort of upwardly mobile, but it's more so about Liverpool's position, the stuff and some of the weaknesses that they've shown in recent times. And we're almost questioned, you know, would they be up for this fight? Will they have the players with the quality and the mentality to be able to get through it? And I think today they ended up doing that. So, you will take the positives. Obviously, you want to see Barark running through 1 v one and at least hitting the target, you could say. But the fact is it's three points. It's climbing the table. It's positivity and two wins in a row. So, yeah, more power to that. So lie and frmpon out for some time. The sobas lie injury as well. So liai is a big problem. Um the primong one I'm not not so much but yeah definitely so eye you know a guy who can change the game uh basically and a guy who so far this season has been one of Liverpool's best players. Uh so yeah to lose him and it's it's because it's a hamstring then again back in my day it was at least two weeks but the fact that he already has missed time and it's a recurrence of the same injury means it's going to be more than two weeks. So yeah that's a problem. >> Yeah. Well we better not go down this slippery slope of negativity for Liverpool. Were we positive there? Was it? >> But in case you are wondering at home, Liverpool did get three points today by beating Brenford 2-1. [music]
