REACTION to Barcelona vs. Getafe 🔥 Anthony Gordon is LOVING LIFE! - Craig Burley | ESPN FC
ESPN FC reviews Barcelona vs Getafe and discusses Anthony Gordon's form and adaptation
The show reviews Barcelona's dominant La Liga form and argues that rotation, squad depth and improved solidity make them look unstoppable. It then turns to Anthony Gordon's form and adaptation, with a debate over his claim that he plays for the best national team and best club.
- Barcelona look unstoppable and are on course for the La Liga title — They have won eight out of eight and scored 34 goals, equalling their best ever start to a La Liga season
- Barcelona's rotation has not hurt their performances, and Flick deserves credit — Whoever plays still creates chances, scores and assists, and the squad depth and understanding are outstanding
- This Barcelona are more solid than in the previous two years and are no longer so easy to break down — The team are fixing their old vulnerability in key moments, and the back line looks reliable whoever plays
- El Clasico is different, so current form does not directly predict the result — The match has its own character, and both teams' form will have to be judged when they meet
- The international break helped the team keep their positive momentum — Players did well, scored and won with their national teams, and came back looking as if they had never left
- He needs to shoot more, and this time he felt good and took the shot — He sometimes passes too much, but after that dribble he felt confident, shot and scored, and was happy to celebrate with the fans
- He plays for the best national team and the best club in the world — He is in a good place, enjoying his football and feeling very blessed
- Gordon does not play for the best national team; Spain are the best national team — Gordon's national team win big games only when it does not matter, and it was funny that he said this to a Spaniard
- Moving from the Premier League to Barcelona means raising your standards, and Gordon has done that so far — Barcelona have better players and different standards, and things he got away with at Everton and Newcastle will not be accepted at Barcelona
- Gordon's start at Barcelona could hardly have gone better — Barcelona are already a settled side who play on the front foot with pace, and Flick can use him in different positions

3-0 it was for them. That's eight wins from eight and 34 goals scored in that time. When you talk about longest winning streaks to start a La Liga season, that equals their best ever start Barcelona that is in the competition. They did the same in the 20134 season. They finished runners up that year. It was Athletici who won the league. You have to go all the way back to the late60s when Real Madrid won nine from nine and they finished that season as a winner. Right now it looks as though Barcelona are very much on course to take the title because they look unstoppable right now and it was the case once again today Luis. >> Yeah, exactly. Numbers says all the results but then only that I think the performances of Barcelona has been fantastic and it doesn't matter who is involved into the game. That's something that we have to give credit to Hans Fleek. He has found a way of making rotation and that the team doesn't doesn't seem affected by any change. Anthony Gordon, Adi, it doesn't matter if the who is playing, but they always deliver good opportunities, goals, assist, and always a threat. In the in the right side, I think Lameyal today was quiet came from the national team. So, it took the the the game just to relax a little bit because we didn't even saw him trying to be players on 1 v one. But once again the middle of the park lot of changes for Barcelona. Rodri Moabi Pedri was rested. Kaguasi was rested. That's the ability and that's the death of the in the squad that Barcelona's go at the moment. And the understanding of this team once again is is just remarkable. We complain a lot last year and the year before that this team needed in the right moments to be more solid, not being so vulnerable, not conc. And that's something that is been worked at the moment and he's getting the results right now. The the team looks very solid at the back. It doesn't matter who is playing in the partnership in that four line at the back. Um and at the front they are just killers. You can see that it doesn't matter if it's Rafinho or no. Gabriu once again got the goal, he scored a goal and they could have scored another two or three goals. So fantastic start for this Barcelona that they look very strong. But again, when they see the classical, they know that it doesn't matter who's arriving in the form that you are arriving and classic was different. We'll have to wait and watch out for both sides. >> Yeah. And Anthony Gordon got his name on the score sheet. Gemma caught up with him after the game. >> Yes. Work with Anthony Gordon. Usually it's not easy to come back with a team after three weeks, but uh you look so sharp, so dominating as usual this Barcelona. Yeah, I think more importantly, I think we all went away and had really good international breaks. Um, if you look at individually, each player done really well with their team. They scored goals. Uh, they won the game. So, I think it's really helped us stay in a positive momentum. Um, and it's no coincidence because as you see today, we have a great team with great players and yeah, it's like we never left. >> So, congratulations on your first goal in the very first minute. Uh, tell us a little bit about that long shot. >> No, it kind of got a little bit hectic. Um, I went on a little dribble and I think in these situations sometimes I pass too much and in this situation I felt good and I just thought, you know what, I need to shoot. I need to shoot more and thankfully it went in and I'm really happy that I got to wait for this goal to be in campell because I got to celebrate it with the fans which is very special for me. >> Of course, as you mentioned, you had a good international rake. Three goals there, one here. You are such in a great streak. >> Yeah, I'm in a good good place. Um, I'm very happy to be here and I'm in a really good place with the national team. So, I know in football these periods they don't come often. So, I'm making the most of it. I'm enjoying every moment at the minute. I love playing football. Um, I play for the best national team and the best club in the world. So, I'm extremely blessed. >> Ah, I'm pity card doing all the right things and saying all the right things. >> He's absolutely loving life, isn't he? He doesn't play for the best national team, does he? The Spanish are the best national team. He plays for a national team that wins big games when it doesn't matter. I laughed at him saying that to a Spaniard as well today. I play for the best national team. >> I always wonder if I played abroad whether I would change my my uh >> the little cadence in the >> Yeah. Yeah. But no, he's loving it. It's been a big move for him and he realizes that when you move to a club from the Premier League, when you move to a club like Barcelona, you have to up your game. You're playing with better players. Standards are different and the stuff you get away with at Everton and Newcastle, you're not going to get away with at Barcelona. So, you have to whenever you go to a big club, you have to raise your standards and he thus far uh has done that. It looks like he's enjoying it. He looks like it's not, you know, a lot of players can make that kind of move and it would be too too much for them. Uh but it's it's been a bonus for him that he's going into a side that's already gelled together. Yeah, it's made some changes, but it's play it's continually playing well. It's playing on the front foot. It's a game of pace which he's got plenty of and he's flexible in terms of where Hansy Flick uh can play him. So, uh thus far, you know, him and Admy, he's been Admy's played his part, but Anthony Gordon's been being the one. And uh yeah, he's just he's thus far it's it's gone as well as it could for him. >> Yeah, we think you'll let him off Luis for saying he plays for the best national team in the world right now given what he's doing for Barcelona. Yeah, I think so.
