Svensson: “We Have to Get Three Points Today” | BVB - Werder Bremen 2-2
Svensson on Dortmund's 2-2 with Bremen: We should have secured three points
Daniel Svensson reflects on Dortmund's 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen. He felt his side dominated and scored twice but failed to close out the win; Bremen's low block was hard to break down, switching flanks helped Dortmund, and after 2-0 they could not find a way to relieve Bremen's late pressure.
- We should have taken three points but failed to finish the game, which is very disappointing — Dortmund dominated most of the match, broke Bremen down and scored twice, but did not secure the win.
- Werder Bremen defended in a low block for most of the game and did it well, making them hard to break down — They sat deep and were difficult to open up, though Dortmund kept pushing and were rewarded twice.
- Switching sides at half-time helped because it made his one-v-one play less predictable — Bremen were aggressive on the flanks, and after the switch Dortmund created more chances and looked more dangerous in the second half.
- Fabio missing or letting the ball run was good for the goal because Svensson was alert right behind him — He saw the ball going to Fabio, knew it was a big chance, stayed with the second ball and put it in.
- After 2-0, Bremen had to push forward and go more man-oriented, making the game harder to control; Dortmund failed to find a way to relieve the pressure — Once Bremen started chasing, they attacked more and committed more men, and Dortmund could not find other ways to take the pressure away.
When Daniel Svensson scored to make it 1-0, it felt like a breath of fresh air at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. After a wild final stretch in which all four goals were scored after the 80th minute, the match ended 2-2. In a postgame interview, the Swedish fullback tried to explain what happened and described his goal from his perspective. ▶ Subscribe & hit the bell: https://goo.gl/kujepC BVB-TV: https://www.bvb.tv/ Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/bvbofficial Twitter: https://twitter.com/BVB Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bvb09 Facebook: https://facebook.com/BVB TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bvb Website: https://www.bvb.de/ BVB

Daniel, crazy match after 90 minutes. How do you feel right now? >> Very disappointed, of course. I think we dominated most of the game. We were just looking to to break them down and find the goal, which we did. And yeah, got the second one as well. And then we have to to finish the game and get three points. So, very disappointing. >> I was a bit surprised that they played that defensive. What was it like to play like such a defensive side? >> I agree. They played played a low block for most of the game. It's not so easy to to break it down. I think overall they did did well in that. But yeah, I think we we kept on pushing the whole game. Got the reward two times. And then again, as I said, we have to to secure the win. >> [sighs] >> At half time you changed sides with Maxi Bayer. Did it make it any easier for you to play so? >> Um I think yeah, they were quite aggressive on the sides. So, I think switching sides made it a little bit easier to to go against your opponent one against one. You become a little bit more unpredictable, I would say. And for me personally, [snorts] I think it was yeah, it worked well. I think we we created more chances. I think we're more dangerous overall in the second half. So, um yeah, I think that was that was good. >> You scored 1-0. In that moment such a like emotional explosion. From the stands I thought as Fabio missed the ball, oh no. But just describe it from your point of view. >> Yeah, I mean from from my point of view it was good that he missed the ball cuz I knew I was I was right behind. Of course, I saw the ball yeah, it was going to him. So, I knew okay, this is going to be a big chance. But yeah, luckily I was there. And I'm not sure if he if he missed the ball or if he just let it go. I'm not sure, but um yeah, I was there on the second ball you could say and then just put it in. >> It may be hard to describe, but try to explain to me and even the fans you play like 85 minutes very very dominant. Then you lead 2-0 and then like you they are starting to get offensive. Why can't you stay like this past 85 minutes before? >> Yeah, that's that's the question, you know, it's it's difficult to answer. Of course, when when we score and especially the second they have to start chasing, going more offensive, going more men against men. So then yeah, that makes it more difficult to to dominate the game. Uh but then yeah, you have to find other ways to yeah, take the pressure away. Um and yeah, we didn't really manage to to do that.
