[music] >> I really could have gone pro. I like how you've got hats, man. I love a hat. The burgundy with the burgundy. Getting last minute stuff packed down. Clothes and fashion kind of became [music] more than a hobby and turned into a lifestyle. >> You know how to do a tie? That's how I raise it. >> I've never had a tie. I don't know how to do a tie. >> [music] >> What's going on, guys? Marcus Canty, aka Ash. I style some of the biggest athletes [music] and names in the game. And today I'm here to talk you through my process. >> Let's go, then. Let's have a look. >> I like how you've got hats, man. I love a hat. >> My first Premier League player was James Maddison, and that was through um Football Fits as a social platform. And then they hit me up when I was doing the the content and stuff like that and asked me to style it. I kind of just studied his style, so um there's a YouTube video out, and he even says it in the video, and he's like, "Oh, how did you know like I would like this stuff and X Y Z?" But you just kind of have to study the person's profile, their Instagram profile, and stuff before you go and do the shoot, so it's like a it's like a mutual exchange when you get to the shoot, and there's no back and forth. So, from there, I feel like it was just word of mouth. So, obviously I carried on just as I would. Whenever I do something big, I'm kind of thinking in my head, "Cool, how do I now top this? I've done this. How do I go one and above?" So, I kept just going up and up and up and up and up. And then um yeah, just kind of spread through word of mouth recognition. Obviously, you meet the right contacts, you keep them in contact, make good relationships with different types of people. And yeah, you just keep putting out quality. If you put out quality stuff, you're going to get quality feedback at the end of the day. >> [music] >> I like them on there, though. >> What's that one? >> Simple now that I've done it a million times, but the footballer would message you, you'd initiate a fee, initiate a budget of what they're willing to spend, what the occasion is. I like to go overboard just so the client has an ample amount of options that they can use. So, even if they don't like 20 outfits, you've still got another 15 outfits to choose from. They'll normally screenshot which outfits they'll like. Every outfit will have the price on it of how much it costs. I think Acne Jeans are like 600. Suede lever Arc'teryx jacket. >> You go buy the clothes, you go do a fitting, and then you kind of just go from there, really. I've actually got a list on my phone of like every single footballer I've styled. Like, I keep track of it. There's Cole Palmer, half of the West Ham squad, half of the AFC Bournemouth squad, Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mario Gotze, Andreas Pereira, Amadou Onana, >> Oh, greedy. >> uh Levi Colwill, uh Alejandro Garnacho. When I do big things like that, I never because I'm such a hard-headed person, I never really take things in, I never really think about it too much. But, I remember when I done the Manchester United shoot and I and I got home and I was like, "Whoa." Like, I've supported Manchester United from young, obviously being a Cristiano Ronaldo fan. And I was like, "Whoa, I just styled Manchester United." And then I was like, "Cool, what now?" I was like, "How can I top this now?" Then I might just get [music] the phone out. >> [music] >> 500. I'm going to come back for it. A lot of the times me and um my manager will just be around London just looking in different stores, looking at different pieces, searching different brands. Like, I've got a whole list on my phone of brands that I haven't used for shoots, but I know at some point in time I'm going to need to use that brand, so I just keep them on a like on a log, so yeah, it's just a lot of market research, talking to different designers, um talking to different brands a lot of time. >> That's your cheat. 1.6 >> It's just about knowing the right people and having the right eye for these type of things, you know. [music] >> Easy tiger. >> Yeah, that's good. >> [music] [music] [music] >> I've known Ash for for quite a while and I obviously like respect his style, respect what he's doing in the game right now. Obviously doing some big things with like football fits. Yeah, man, I like what he's doing, man, so I just had to, you know what I'm saying, I had to give him a little shout, man, for today. Obviously like you see a lot of people putting some some nice things on nowadays, man, and I think like I was saying it before, I feel like it's just about just expressing yourself. It's like almost like a second personality and just you see now more than than ever like footballers kind of showing what they're they're about like off the pitch, whether that's you see some some ballers banging music, some are really into the fashion type of stuff, and I feel like it kind of brings more culture into the game. >> It's currently you 7:00 a.m. >> [music] >> Today is Brick City. This is the non-glamorous part. >> [music] >> I've got to pack all this. >> The the travel is crazy, but obviously it like I said, depends on the job. It could be someone could message me yesterday and say I need this for that, so we'd have to come in to if we can't get the stuff online in time, we'd have to go and search around. Sometimes we'll be in central London for like 4 5 hours a day just going to every single store. Obviously we'll take the pictures of the pieces and then I'll find the CADs, which is like a product image, put it onto a styling board and then send it to the client, but um a lot of times if it's pre-organized, I'll find a lot of the stuff through one-on-one designers online plus in store. So, it's like you've got a whole conjunction of a bunch of different pieces and um yeah, then the travel comes in, which is like you have to actually go to the player or to the artist, wherever it is. >> Right now, I'm in China. I don't know why. I mean >> [music] >> What's next, Bobos? >> I find myself traveling a lot. My my car's probably got a lot a lot of mileage on it. Even yesterday, we drove about 7 hours, is it? 7 hours in a day. Um yeah, and then the flying flying all over the country. Sometimes I'll be in six, seven countries in one month, which is when you look back on it, it's crazy to think. But then it's like you're you're not getting no sleep at the end of the day, so you have to try and find the balance between work and health, which is the main thing. >> Liverpool up now. Time to get him into the first fit. Had a little matching LV set, the the denim shorts with the denim short sleeve and >> A lot of the players I work with, we now have quite like a personal relationship, a good friendship where it's like even if we're not talking about styling, we're just talking or like kicking it or something like that. So, yeah, it's it's I feel like that's a good thing to have in the industry is form real connections and real relationships just based off energy instead of just having that work relationship, you know? That's what makes the job even better because when you're styling, it's like you're going back and forth on ideas and it's it's more so a partnership instead of a one-sided thing, you know? >> Hi, you all right? How you doing? You okay? >> It's it's not easy work at all. It's very demanding physically and mentally on the body. And um I go through a lot of ups and downs that obviously people don't see. People just kind of see the roses and the ice cream and just feel like, yeah, I want to do this. Let me see your SD card. >> [music] >> Like I said, to [music] the average person that is really really into fashion, this might look like a rubbish outfit. But this is accessible. It's relatable to >> [music] >> the Zalando customer. Today we're on set shooting for Adidas ASOS new collection. So we're going to bring you lot with us. You have mentally resilient to be able to deal with this stuff. And I'd say the best piece of advice I can give is just be consistent. And I say it all the time. But um the main thing is just to be consistent. If you really want something bad is how persistent are you willing to be to get up every single day and work towards that dream. >> I feel like London is up there. [music] >> There's still players that obviously want to style like the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo. >> [music] >> Um and then Marcus Rashford as well. I've been wanting to style him for a while as well. Those are probably >> [music] >> at the top of my list. >> Today we're on set styling Shakka new music video with Black Bones. >> It sounds really bad but I generally don't sleep and I I feel like I say it a lot so everyone knows that I don't sleep but most of the time I'm getting two three hours of sleep a night which is not it's not a flex like it's not cool. I wouldn't advise it on anybody but I just generally don't have the time. It just shows how bad you like how bad you want it. How how far are you willing to go? What are you willing to sacrifice to really get to where you want to be? And I know where when I'm in a sufficient place and I'm comfortable enough that I will get some sleep at some point. >> [music] >> Mhm.
