According to Rodra of ESPN , FC Barcelona have recruited a scout from Getafe’s academy, Javier Madrid, to strengthen their youth development structure and identify promising players in Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha.
Javier Madrid spent the past four years in charge of recruitment for Getafe’s youth teams. The 28-year-old also has coaching experience in the academies of Rayo Vallecano and Getafe.
He will now join Barcelona’s scouting department, helping the Catalan club strengthen its coverage of two important regions: Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha.
Barça will face competition from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as they look to identify and recruit the most promising young players in these areas.
During his time at Getafe, Madrid coached two players who are now part of Real Madrid’s setup: Thiago Pitarch and Mario Rivas.
Last summer, he also helped Getafe recruit David Sanchez Miralles, a highly rated talent who was just 12 years old at the time.
Barcelona strengthen their La Masia recruitment network
Barcelona continue to expand their youth recruitment strategy, looking beyond Catalonia to improve the quality of their La Masia teams.
The capital has become an increasingly important area of focus as the club seeks to compete with its domestic rivals for emerging talent.
In recent years, Barcelona have recruited Marcos Parriego from Rayo Vallecano, as well as Víctor Barbany and Byron Mendoza, both of whom arrived from Leganes.
Madrid’s appointment reinforces that commitment. He will work in the region alongside Jon Andoni Goikoetxea, the former footballer who has spent six years working within the Blaugrana scouting structure.
The club hope that strengthening their local knowledge and recruitment network will help them identify talented youngsters before they attract interest from rival academies.
Real Madrid also recruit from Barcelona
The competition between Barcelona and Real Madrid for Spain’s most promising young footballers extends well beyond their senior teams.
Real Madrid also monitor youth academies in Barcelona and have recruited two players from Catalan clubs this year: Iker Doblas and Clifford Nana.
Both players were in the youth age groups and joined from CF Damm, one of Catalonia’s most productive football academies.
The latest appointments and transfers underline how both Spanish giants are investing in youth recruitment across each other’s traditional territories, seeking to secure the next generation of talent before their rivals can do so.
