All of the latest Manchester City 114 charges news with updates on their potential points deduction and the reaction of Premier League rivals
Hello and welcome to Mirror Football's live blog on the Manchester City charges case...
Last month, the Premier League confirmed an independent commission found City guilty of 114 financial breaches but the process still has a long way to run. City have appealed the decision and a final outcome this season is seen as unlikely even though a sanctions hearing is also set to take place.
Discussed at that will be all the potential punishments, ranging from a hefty fine to expulsion from the Premier League, with City warned they could face 'multiple double figure' points deductions.
The process being drawn out has already angered other top-flight clubs with many of the belief it is impacting their ability to qualify for the Champions League while others are more concerned about potential legal costs.
With all of that being said, stay with us throughout the day for the latest news and updates on the Man City charges case!
City 'issues not raised' with Andy Burnham
We have also heard from UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham during a recent PMQs regarding his link to the Manchester City owners.
When asked about his dealings with them during PMQs by Conservative MP Jerome Mayhew (Broadland and Fakenham), he said:
> They did not raise those issues with me. I'm very happy, Mr Speaker, for everything to be set out in full.It is why I asked the Greater Manchester Combined Authority [GMCA], in response to a call from the Leader of the Opposition and others, to set out a full statement of my key dealings with the owners of Manchester City Football Club. That statement was published on Monday, and it includes the issues in the news today. That is the position.
PL clubs stance on City case
The stance of other Premier League clubs was also recently spoken about by Maguire with some annoyed about it impacting their European hopes while others just want a swift resolution.
He said:
> I think it would be a very unusual vote [to expel City from the Premier League].We did see Bury get expelled from League Two some time ago but I think that the other clubs would have to bear in mind that Manchester City would probably take legal redress and that could prove to be very expensive if they are expelled without the verdict being held and without the appeal. So it's a dangerous route to go down, but the weight of feeling does vary from club to club. Certainly some of the other elite clubs are very unhappy with the delay in the situation because they feel it has an impact upon their ability to qualify for the Champions League.I think some of the more mid-tier clubs who don't see Manchester City as a threat, their main concern is, is this going to further increase the already sky-high legal costs that have been incurred by the Premier League and they don't want any part of it.So, they want a quick resolution and then they can get on with the rest of their season and focus on their own clubs.
City warned of 'multiple double figure' points deductions
Kieran Maguire, an expert in football finance, has been discussing Manchester City's potential punishment if their appeal against 114 financial charges fails.
He told GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast:
> The redacted report sets out year by year how much the sham contracts contributed to the artificial commercial revenue.Over the rolling three-year period, in some years we could be talking about a £350million difference. That would shatter all records for PSR compliance.Everton and Nottingham Forest's deductions covered a single breach in a single year, an overspend of no more than £20million. So is there a ceiling on what can be deducted? And the sanctions hearing could already have taken place. Because City are appealing and everyone has NDAs, we might not know the sanction until the appeal result. But it has to be multiple double figures of points, before you start the calculations.I worked out that if you add up nine years of Champions League non-participation for individual clubs at an average of £50million a time, around £20million for the Europa League, plus potential claims from players who missed bonuses, the Premier League's legal fees and a fine, we're talking in excess of a billion pounds regardless of the points deduction.
