According to Jose Felix Diaz of AS , Real Madrid have appointed Bernd Reichart to lead the club’s business operations moving forward. The German executive will fill a position that had remained vacant at the Spanish club for some time.
Reichart will oversee several key areas, including the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, sponsorships and merchandising.
He will report directly to Jose Angel Sanchez, Real Madrid’s general manager and senior executive, and one of Florentino Perez’s most trusted aides.
A key figure in the European Super League project
Reichart was the public face of the European Super League project throughout much of its development from his position as the CEO of A22 Sports Management.
The project, backed by Real Madrid, did not take off, but it did achieve in securing court recognition that UEFA had abused its dominant position , forcing a reassessment of the balance of power between European football’s governing body and the clubs.
Before becoming closely associated with the Super League project, Reichart served as chief executive of the RTL media group and held an executive position at Atresmedia.
His experience in media, commercial strategy and football governance is expected to be valuable as Real Madrid continue developing their business operations, particularly around the Bernabéu and the club’s commercial partnerships.
Appointment could signal progress towards European football agreement
Reichart’s move to Real Madrid could also indicate that a comprehensive agreement aimed at resolving the dispute over the future of European football is approaching.
Following the preliminary agreement reached in February between key stakeholders – Real Madrid, UEFA, and the EFC (formerly known as the EFA), the appointment suggests that discussions over a lasting settlement may be entering a decisive phase.
One of the central figures in the Super League project is now moving away from that role to focus on the commercial development of Real Madrid.
However, the appointment alone does not confirm that a final agreement has been reached. For now, though, Reichart will be joining Real Madrid in an official capacity to lead the Spanish capital club’s business operations moving forward.
