Man Utd star Amad lets rip after Atletico Madrid defeat - 'F*****g disgrace'
· Mirror
Manchester United suffered their first defeat in this season's Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid, with the Red Devils having been reduced to 10 men after Leny Yoro's red card
Manchester United star Amad has branded their controversial 2-0 loss against Atletico Madrid a 'fing disgrace' in a charged social media post. Amad, 24, was a second-half substitute as United attempted to salvage at least a draw from the Spanish capital.
The Red Devils gave themselves an uphill battle by conceding inside the first minute, with Atletico's Pablo Barrios putting them ahead. United improved as the game went on but their hopes of taking home a point or three were dashed by Leny Yoro's red card.
Following a VAR check after on-field referee Glenn Nyberg had initially allowed play to continue, Yoro was adjudged to have brought down Jonathan David while being the last defender and he was promptly sent off. Michael Carrick's side struggled to create chances from thereon and conceded a second time through Ademola Lookman in the closing stages.
Post-match, Amad vented his fury with a post on Snapchat. "Fg disgrace; I have no words," the forward wrote.
Amad wasn't the only United player to speak out, with Lisandro Martinez choosing to direct his anger at the club's board for their supposed lack of investment during the summer transfer window. Carrick hadn't listened to Martinez's post-match interview and wanted to focus on the game instead.
> "It is a tough enough place to come and to get the start we had obviously puts us in a more difficult situation but I thought we grew into the game," the United manager reflected. "We had four big chances, big opportunities and the game can look very different.
> "They were really good opportunities as well, they weren't just little half ones. I thought we didn't finish the first half particularly well, started the second half a little bit better and started having some control without having a real threat.
> "Then we had Bruno's [Fernandes] chance again, another good opportunity, and then the red card. That goes against us and then it's difficult after that.
> "It is mixed [feelings], understanding it's a tough place to come anyway, they make it that way and we knew that and were prepared for that, but disappointed with the chances we had that we haven't had more [goals]."
United are back on the road this weekend, travelling to Leeds on Sunday. The Red Devils have only won one of their six Premier League games, so the pressure is on to get a victory before they return to action in the Champions League next Wednesday away to Como.
