Lisandro Martinez strongly criticised the higher-ups at Manchester United in the wake of Tuesday's 2-0 loss away to Atletico Madrid, leaving fans and pundits divided
Lisandro Martinez has stolen the headlines after Manchester United lost 2-0 away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. His explosive post-match interview saw him criticise the club's board and call out director of football Jason Wilcox.
Martinez, 28, said that he 'expected more' from United in the summer transfer window, as the Red Devils only made four signings - three of them in midfield and one backup goalkeeper. Their recruitment has forced Michael Carrick to put square pegs in round holes just weeks into his first season as United's permanent manager.
> Speaking after the game in Madrid, he said: “Really poor. Really poor. I have to control myself a lot but sometimes is a reflection of the mirror of how is our club at the moment. > > "We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well. Atletico have an amazing team and they deserve to win today. > > "I expect more [investment]. 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox]. I have to be honest, as players we have to do more but it is also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for this kind of night."
Fans have hailed Martinez for speaking out, with a large portion of supporters holding the same opinion. But the Argentina international has also been accused of 'disrespecting' his team-mates by ex-United captain Wayne Rooney, while Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says that he was 'out of order'.
