During Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League game against Viking FK, the Bavarians went into the locker room at halftime with a 2-0 deficit and their heads down. Vincent Kompany fired them up, made three substitutions, and got the team back on track. Thirty minutes later, Bayern was sitting pretty with a 3-2 lead and complete control of the match.
An innocent jersey tug from Michael Olise led to a yellow card in the 74th minute. Fine. But then Olise tossed the ball at his opponent, earning a senseless second yellow card and ejection from the match.
Harry Kane’s brilliant second half was ruined by a late Viking goal that resulted in a 3-3 draw. In the postgame interview, Kane vented his frustrations.
> “It was a poor first half from us,” said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). “We started the second half well and fought our way back. But the red card changed everything for us. [Michael Olise] will be gutted and he has to take responsibility for it. It was a mistake, and mistakes happen. He has to learn from it. It’s a pity because we have important games ahead of us. We should have won this game with the performance we showed in the second half. But when you make mistakes like that, you get punished.”
Olise will miss the crucial Champions League match next week against Arsenal. Furthermore, Olise will need to apologize to his teammates and keep moving forward.
